This is a great hotel, friendly staff, good breakfast, nice room. Thank you.
It was great. The hotel is good and the staff were very helpful.
Fab stay
Great hotel, room was much bigger than we were expecting and nice view of the garden. Service was always friendly, and great value breakfast. Easy to get into town with regular buses right outside. Summertown itself is really nice too, lots of little shops and cafes. We didn't get parking at the hotel as it was full, but there's a car park 2 minutes away
Would not stay again
The hotel is quirky but services are extremely limited, no food, breakfast started too late and there seems to be hardly any staff as no one could manage to print or email me an invoice, even though I asked every day of my 4 day stay and called twice after … very poor service for just basic …
Exquisite stay!
This is a little gem of a hotel in Summertown, Oxford. Exquisite, and very comfortable for any visitor - Convenient bus routes to town centre outside, also M&S a hundred yards away.
First, the staff are wonderful - friendly and very accommodating. The location is quite convenient for any local shopping or visiting. Summertown is an easy half hour walk from Oxford City Center - or take the bus, of which there are many running throughout the day and evenings. Also, for the four of us, a cab back from city center costs just a bit more than the bus (9 vs 8) We had a twin room on the 3rd floor that was in back - very quiet - and fairly roomy. We would happily book again should we be back.
Cold room
Very cold room. Heating was then sorted out but not the usual service or standard this trip
This is a very nice and unique hotel, true to the pictures. Although the room was small, like most hotels in Europe, it provided the right amount of space and didn't bother me at all. The room was decorated with taste and detail. The hotel is not in downtown, so you either walk for around 30 minutes, which I did most of the time, or you have to take the bus, which is conveniently close to the hotel. The only time I took the bus was when I arrived and left, as I had a carry-on; otherwise, it’s a nice walk to the city center.
Everything was perfect, highly recommended, thanks. The room was new, spacious, great bathroom, comfortable bed. Location super convenient for coming off the ring road and easy to get in to to town - masses of buses, we walked (25 mins). Best of all were the staff: all were beyond excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We even left something in the room and had to go back to get it... it was waiting at reception when we returned. Congratulations to all for an outstanding job.
Stylish rooms, great location.
Despite the confusion at check-in, the staff was very comprehensive and solved the issue effectively. The hotel has amazing decorations, and the staff is friendly and polite. I definitely recommend it!
This hotel is located in the quiet neighborhoods. It takes few minutes to walk to grocery stores. The room was also clean and quiet. I also liked the breakfast options that they provided. The taste was great.
It was ok, breakfast was a bit oily
Good value in Oxford
An excellent overnight stop with quirky splendid common areas.
Nice place and very unique
Lovely quirky place . Excellent breakfast and lots of choice . Rooms are nicely decorated with comfy beds ( superior rooms) we were at the front . My only issues are the entrance to the rear car park is very tight ! The room was noisy as at the front and very hot hence we had the window open as the roof window and bathroom velux wouldn’t open . Apart from that it was fabulous place to stay whilst we went to the game fair , Justin was so helpful with walkable restaurants all 3 recommend we’re super .
Undergoing refurb which is not declared prior to booking. Therefore like staying on a building site. Rooms very basic indeed, nothing like the boutique Hotel experience that the listing and pictures would suggest. Avoid.
Anna the site manager was great. She was able to provide me with a better room option when I was disappointed with my original room. She even comped my breakfast due to the inconvenience. Will definitely consider the Galaxie again when next in Oxford.
It’s a beautifully welcoming and unassuming spot with much to please the eye and kind and warm staff members.
Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room, terrific breakfast.
Thin walls
Room was nice and fair price but walls were thin. Could hear the person in the next room coughing all night
The staff was amazing. The breakfast delicious. The outside of the hotel was a little lacking in curb appeal. Seemed to be under construction. Overall a great experience.
Eclectic interior and spacious rooms. Lovely little touches like the candy cupboard! Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Would stay here again!
Lovely unique and great value.
Fun and eclectic decor. Excellent customer service. Clean, spacious and comfortable rooms.
I liked how the room looked and it was spacious for one person.
Stylish property in walking distance from the city centre. Good breakfast.
Comfortable & contemporary
Hotel is in a good location making it easy to get to the city centre from the bus stop close to the entrance. A small but comfortable room, nothing more was needed for my short stay though. High spec bathroom with a good powerful monsoon shower. The only negative is a lack of blackout curtains to the window, just a roller blind which alllowed a lot of light in
.
Nice and clean hotel
Unusual and quirky
Boutique Hotel
Room was cosy, comfortable bed and good size bathroom.
lovely little hotel with an English aire
This was our third stay at Galaxie. This time, our room was smaller than the others but still nice. It's a lovely little hotel with parking in the back, a nice conservatory and a distinctly English flair. Think dark paints, vintage furniture, lots of paintings and bric-a-brac scattered throughout. Helpful friendly staff and a great Summer Town location - 20 min walk to downtown and 5 min taxi/bus ride.
The check-in was very slow and the concierge didn't even have a calculator to calculate the bill - did the calculation on paper!!!. The room was unpleasantly hot and the noise from passing traffic could be heard all night, disrupting sleep.
Excellent and very quaint!
They are renovating the entrance so it was a bit messy
great
Great property. The rooms are a little small and tight and the walls are superrr thin; you can hear everything going on above & beside you. But, overall cute property and walkable distance to everything.
Poor value for money, not sure how this place rates four stars.
Amazing stuffs, very helpful. Live the design and sensitive interior arrangements!
Great breakfast and comfortable stay. Would stay again if in town!
Great experience from beginning to end, parking was easy and not badly priced for Oxford. Reception staff were enquiring, gracious and very helpful and made us feel very welcome. Bed was comfy, room was adequate in size, bathroom a little cramped but served it's purpose and the shower was great. Breakfast was well worth upgrading to, excellent service and freshly cooked hot breakfast items and specific things (someone ordered an omelette) made to order. Coffee was good and rather punchy, checkout was easy. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others. Well done to all the team at Galaxie - a great overnight stay, thankyou so much.
Quirky, fun hotel
Have stayed here many times. Staff are always friendly and happy to help. Rooms are quirky and well appointed. Parking is no longer free - but £10 is fine. Easy location to walk to colleges, museums and restaurants. Feels like returning to an eccentric relative’s house!
Beautiful family run hotel. Fantastic cake and perfect for a visit to Oxford
Not so good this time
Having been a regular visitor in the past was surprised & disappointed to find £10 extra charge for parking given the inaccessible nature of alternative parking at this very busy out of town roadside b&b. Apparently due to Hotels.com recent hike in commission?? Had large room (for which I paid extra) in unfortunate very noisy position at front ground floor - so no sleep this time. Also nearly fell in odd unexpectedly sunken bath, maybe a warning sign might not go amiss? Have had pretty decent stays here in past & had regularly recommended to others, now not so sure.
Absolutely loved everything about the property and hosts and staff, were wonderful. Friendly and helpful. Breakfast really fantastic value and great. Enjoyed and appreciated the quirky decor and would stay here again. Thoroughly recomend to anyone.
Clean
Decor was pleasant, room spacious, if not completely cleaned. Disappointed that the bar closed at 10, even fo residents.
The staff were very nice and the breakfast was quite good. A bus stop is just outside the property and the transportation is convenient. There are groceries and restaurants near by.
Charming
Charming inn/hotel. Breakfast and service overall were great. Decor very eclectic and stylish but could use a bit of a refresh in some areas. Would stay again.
Gorgeous boutique hotel. Hotel team really lovely 😊
Lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff
Very convenient for me. Clean , quiet, comfy bed gave me a good nights sleep . Good shower room and toiletries. Arrived at seven car park full no space for me. No one on reception when I arrived or bell to press. Woke up in the morning to smell of bacon in my room windows were closed . Decided to open window for fresh air only to see large air extractor below emitting steam presumably from the kitchen Knock on door at 9.30 in the morning from staff stating they wanted to clean room . No one on reception when I gave in key and left
Everything was great about the Galaxie - wonderful breakfast, lovely environment and very friendly and accommodating staff
Very quirky property. Room was nice and bathroom excellent. Bed comfortable but pillows not nice. Heating system constantly clunking through the night which resulted in a poor nights sleep.
Fabulous stay, team couldn’t be more helpful. Spacious room, fantastic breakfast. Lovely to stay in an independent rather than chain. Will definitely return.
Disappointing
Not a king sized bed and certainly not a superior room. Average at best. Very dusty with cobwebs Fan didn’t work nor the controls for velux windows Lighting was awful and no dressing table. Room was very hot and thermostat didn’t seem to work- if it did, there were no instructions and it was not simple to operate. Opened the side windows but the blind rattled all night. Pillows were thin. The shower ran half hot and half cold out of the same head at the same time which made it very uncomfortable. The room stank of fried food in the morning due to the kitchen being below. TV didn’t have solid internet connection so couldn’t watch Netflix. This should have been an £80 room. Get far far better from a travelodge. Shame because we had saved for a special treat and felt truly disappointed.
Slamming of doors was biggest issue. Are soft close doors not a thint? Bed was tiny and room was very hot. Nice hotel but definitely not a 4 star
Friendly and helpful staff on check-in. I stayed in room 302 which was a large double room at the back of the property. The bed was extremely comfy and it was lovely and quiet. There is a bus stop right out the hotel which is convenient for catching the bus into the city centre.
Lovely boutique hotel in a perfect location with frequent bus services to the centre from an adjacent stop. The room was modern with a lovely bathroom and decent shower. Breakfast set us up for a day of exploring Oxford's museums and the staff were really welcoming. Parking available on site and a nice garden area too.
Clean and comfortable
This was my second stay at this hotel. The decor had been recently updated and is now very stylish. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious and clean. I had an early morning online business meeting during breakfast service hours and would have appreciated ten minutes of flexibility with the breakfast time so I could get some breakfast which was already paid. However the front desk didn’t respond positively to this request which was disappointing. When I went down early (6:45am) the breakfast server was very helpful and made me coffee and toast.
It had a very individule style, you could say bo-ho chic, but whoever created the interior look has attention to they're overal taste, so everything seems to work. Had a very pleasant stay.
Charming hotel with a great location -- perfect to get a bus into the center of town . The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful . Will definitely stay here again .
Very friendly hotel and staff. Great breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
Good location, has character, clean, good customer service
Location was good
Quite near dining options but outside the thick of Oxford. Grocery and drug store an easy walk away. The available breakfast is a very nice and affordable option I took advantage of most days.
Room not nearly as spacious or as well appointed as advertised in the pictures. Very poor soundproofing both internally between rooms/floors and externally to the road. More like a backpackers lodge.
Wonderful boutique hotel
Smelly one star hotel
Smelly hotel with tiny beds. Men at the the front desk didn’t care and couldn’t care about his job. Had to carry luggage 3 floors without help and No one seem to care. Hotel is far from downtown this more of a one star hotel.
Great little boutique hotel. Very relaxed vibe and fantastic staff. My concern would be no mini bar fridge which was a small inconvenience, but otherwise no complaints loved it.
Rooms on this site are cheaper so you'll be put in the worst room in the house!
Small, nicely kept and good customer service
Comfortable bed, beautiful spaces to relax.
Lovely, comfortable hotel 10 minutes from Oxford city centre by bus with a bus stop right outside. It felt like a safe area with a great selection of restaurants a short walk away. Staff were really friendly. The garden is beautiful for sitting out of a summer evening. The buffet breakfast was delicious, but there wasn't enough of it. Would definitely stay again.
The reception was left unmanned and had to wait. Finally received my room and as soon as I walked into the room it smelled of a dirty port a potty. The room was old, stained, and smelled bad. Sheets and pillows looked dirty. I should have paid a little more and stayed at Oxford Central Center area hotels.
Convenient access to transportation and old world charm. Great breakfast!
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was amazing with lots of fresh fruits and options. The room, though not large, has big enough for us to open our two suitcases. One of the things we really liked about the room was that the ensuite bath had places to put our toiletry bags and hooks for towels and clothing. Very handy! Bus access right out the door made for easy transportation in the city. There are also lots of places to eat nearby as well as stores for groceries.
I reserved a room on Expedia the night before my stay and paid on arrival. I was allocated room 301 as I had reserved a large double room which was advertised as only £1 extra than a double room. The room was at the back of the property overlooking the car park and was very quiet. The bathroom was definitely the best feature of this room as the queen bed advertised was simply two twin beds pushed together. There were no bottles of water or glasses provided which was disappointing. The room was very warm and I slipped fitfully. The best feature of the hotel is definitely the decor which takes you back in time. I paid for breakfast which cost only £10 and had a hearty English breakfast which was excellent value for money. The two guys who were waiting on/serving were very friendly and welcoming. I checked out just after 9am and handed my key back to the guy on reception who didn’t ask me how I found my stay? It took a good 30 minutes to walk back along Banbury Road to Oxford City Centre although there are buses available for those who want a quicker journey time.
This hotel felt more like a B&B, the room and property were very nice and well maintained. The location is close to downtown Oxford and there are a number of shops, restaurants and grocery stores just down the street. I bought the breakfast for an extra 10 pounds per day, the breakfast service was lovely (plenty of coffee) and seating was in an atrium with a train that ran around the ceiling every half hour or so. The only drawback is that there are only a few parking spots (which is common in the UK) and there was no easy place for my friends to pull off the main road to pick me up.
Good choice.
Pleasant stay. The hotel is comfy and have amenities around it.
Cute place like a labrynth inside. The rooms are smallish but comfy nonetheless
Bed was not a double
The room I booked was a small double but the bed was definitely a single. Host was very accommodating and friendly and the stay was warm and comfy just what I needed.
nice hotel for the money. good buffet breakfast. hotel might consider adding a cappuccino / expresso machine to make it even better.
Quiet and stylish hotel. I stay here often when coming to oxford.
Very good
Amazing hotel. Easy access to city centre. Our downstairs room was beautiful and comfortable but was not soundproofed from the room above so that was a bit of a down from an otherwise perfect hotel.
Great place, friendly staff, good location
Had leak in ceiling dripping on soaps and towels etc but still okay
Great service!
Service is great (service, cleaning and cooking staff is all great!). I just hope there will be a stool (or one more chair) to sit on so it’s easier for me to do our work at the same time. That said, great service!!
Very friendly staff, good breakfast, very clean and modernized room. Good location to access downtown Oxford, right next to bus stop on main road
The hotel is beautiful and unique. My room and bathroom are spacious and clean. Several breakfast items to choose from and the tea is delicious. The staff, especially those that run breakfast, are friendly. The lift is out of service but staff gladly carried luggage to third floor. I would definitely return on my next visit!
Great place to stay if you are visiting Oxford. Room was fine, clean and the bed very comfortable. It was great that you could park for free here too, as Oxford parking/ driving is always a expensive nightmare! Staff were very friendly and attentive, especially at breakfast, which was also really great. Fabulous choice of options, and all fresh and delicious. Would definitely stay here again .
Excellent staff
The staff were so helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for their guests. The breakfast was amazing so much variety and choice
Excellent staff. Great location. Great value.
The hotel had an interesting and attractive interior. The shower was very small and there was a lot of noise from walking on floor above our bedroom so ceiling/ floor must be too thin .
Dirty, don't bother.
A good location and free parking. Rooms at the front are very noisy due to road...however, it was made worse by the window not fitting. Shower door was missing so bathroom floods. Black mould in bathroom and mouldy shower plug. No hot water, or water from the shower in the morning. Hotel blamed too many people wanting a shower. 😠. No curtains in the room, just badly fitted blinds which doesn't stop the sun or people on the bus looking in. No one in reception at check out to raise issues with.
The Galaxie
The entrance to the car park is a little snug, but obviously manageable. The hotel is a great place to stay, its quirkiness is definitely a feather in its bow. I cant think of any reason why i would come to Oxford and not stay here again. Most of the staff we came in to contact with were over and above our expectations especially the guy doing the breakfast and generally running around, very attentive. If i was being hyper critical the guy when we were checking in and out lacked the same enthusiasm and attentiveness, but that is a small critism for our stay at The Galaxie
Great hotel
Lovely little hotel
Extremely short staffed. Had to wait one hour a room which was very basic and dated. No amenities apart from breakfast. No receptionist to address questions or requests. Way over rated. Will not be back and don’t recommend the Galaxie.

Weekend with friends
On the whole it was good only for one night. I think charging for parking is milking it a bit. The coffee machine didn’t appear to work in the room. But used instant coffee tubes instead. Would have preferred the “real coffee “ We went out for breakfast as that was also chargeable at the hotel. So little things really & not life threatening! Just a bit disappointing.
