The property does not offer much international food and is not the best option if you travel solo. It’s more a family resort

Great resort but a little dated

It is an amazing resort with great service and wonderful activities for children. Lorena checked us in and was a superb host for us at the start. Alif was very friendly, and even the ranger gave our daughter a lovely evening tour of the glow in the dark mushrooms. Nothing was too much for them.

This was a very nice property with a great pool and comfortable rooms. My daughter loved the waterslide and had fun at the kids club. The discovery centre was a unique addition. The restaurant offerings were delicious but lacked a bit in terms of completing a meal (eg Indian food but no raita or chutneys, Malaysian coffee but no condensed milk). The pool area could have used more things like light sandwiches , nachos etc. attention to detail could be improved on (eg you ask on your online ordering how many guests are eating, but then never deliver the required cutlery). Overall we had a great time and I would recommend this stay to friends, however small improvements would take this from a 4 to 5 star stay.

A bit of luxury in Sabah.

This was a lovely hotel. The breakfast was fantastic with so many choices. Restaurants seemed very expensive but we were not on a package. Staff were wonderful, great pools and gardens.

Head of concierge Sopry was amazing sorting everything out. Allen was at the airport to take us to the hotel and was also very helpful.

From the time I arrived and was greeted by Alfio, who cheered me up and arranged activities, a bubble bath in my room, to dinning with Clifford, Peachy, and Aldridge at the Japanese restaurant. Food was extraordinary. Sharon who made the morning sunrise hike at the reserve unbelievable perfect. Dora and Hassini at the spa are amazing!!! Best hands ever!!! Melvin who arranged amazing tours on the resort. Ms. Fiona the GM of the resort who was gracious and kind and a perfect example and reflection of the staff’s heart and soul. This is definitely a piece of heaven and I was blessed to be surrounded by such an incredible place. My stay could not have been more special and perfect.

A tropical beach resort with extras...

One of the finest resorts I've been to while not being overly lux and reasonably priced. Helpful smiling staff. Amazing food quality and variety. Well appointed quiet rooms. Vacant beach! A huge nature reserve adjacent, worth exploring with trained guides on premises.

The access to the nature reserve was excellent, with the staff and service all top notch. A great experience for out of the city, and a very well managed resort.

Good services. Comfortable stay.

We really enjoyed our stay, room was lovely with fantastic views of the gardens and ocean. Only downside I would say is the service around the pool is very slow. We also wasn't keen on the chinese restaurant, but really enjoyed the teppanyaki. Also enjoyed our time around the sunset bar until the sand flies come out.

The staff was excellent. They were friendly and accommodating. The resort was beautiful and very clean.

Beautiful, huge property. 4 restaurants, food ok and expensive .2 great pools and right on the beach. As a note...... it's very, very hot so the ocean is really warm. We ended up sitting by the pool.

Good size room and lovely view from balcony. Pool was perfect temperature, there were plenty of loungers, and beach was clean. Staff very friendly. Excellent breakfast spread. Filteted water easily available in line with their no single use plastic policy.

Love the private beach

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay over New Years. We had two ocean wing connecting ground floor rooms for our family of seven and they were spacious and great. Highly recommend Ocean Wing for the private reception, more attentive service, breakfast options and quieter pool although the ocean wing is far from all kids activities. We had an issue with beach golf but the staff apologized and more than made up for it with ensuring we got to do all the water sports we wanted. Sheldon at water sports was a star.

Great amenities for traveling with children, great service and friendly staff.

They need to train their staff better. Our checking was worst. Staff was trying to sell us an upgrade when we didn’t take it we were given the key and ask to go and find our room. In this event they forgot to tell us about the hotel facilities and activities offered. In the morning when we were trying to look for the activities they were either completed, started or full. Basically, we could not participate in any of the activities offered by the hotel which we initially planned to. I ordered a coconut water with coconut meat but the coconut came without the coconut meat and half of the water was spilled. I went to the reception to try to book for diner, we were completely ignored and the lady kept working on her computer acting as she did not see us. We eventually left.

In general staff were friendly but room isn't as expected. For example room amenities e.g. disposal slippers were torn a sign of it had been used before or it's a low quantity product. Otherwise, in general hotel has a great location for a pleasant holiday

Fabulous stay

Simply terrific and very sorry to depart. The local culture is the most friendly and welcoming we have ever experienced anywhere in the World. Every single staff member you meet greets guests with a smile and acknowledgement without fail.

Second stay at the hotel chain and worth every moment

Outside of town relaxing resort.

The resort was very good overall. Good food options. Great pool and activities for the kids. Nice beach. Waterslide was a highlight for the kids. Only downside is we thought we were going at a quite period (last week of June) but the resort and island were very busy and it was difficult to get spots for activities that required bookings.

The staff at this hotel are exceptional and very friendly. The hotel has seen better days. It’s very worn and tired. I would say more a 4 star. When it first opened I can imagine it would have been amazing but everything just felt faded. The grounds are very week kept. Long lines for the breakfast on the weekend. The hotel is a little remote so there’s nothing near by. Again - staff make this place great but needs updating as fell short of what I would expect a Shangi La 5 star resort to be.

Warm and exceptional service. Beautiful property. Every dining experience on the property was terrific. My family thoroughly enjoyed everything.

Sheer luxury

From the minute we walked in we were treat with kindness from your amazing staff. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome. I arranged to meet my sister in Borneo who I haven’t seen inn5 years as she lives in Tasmania and I live in England. What better place to spend quality time together than in sheer luxury. Thank you each and everyone of your staff for making it a most wonderful memory x

Everything war very nice

There are many activities you can sign up for that is organised by the hotel. The staff are friendly and ensure that I was cared for throughout my stay. Love the room (ocean view) and service the most! One downside is there is nothing much to explore out of the hotel and it is a distance to travel out.

Nice hotel, kids friendly, good staff, tasty food, but beach is dirty

Beautiful hotel and surroundings. However, did not offer value for money like other Shangri-la resorts. Garden wing seems a little outdated as compared to ocean wing. The food and beverages were top notch.

I like the bath-tub in the balcony (Ocean Wing room) but the waiting time for food can be quite long. We ordered room service at 7pm, but food only came at 9pm.

Hotel staff was awesome!!!

The Japanese Restaurant is good enough for both food quality and the friendly of staffs. But for the reception, the direction to check-in not clear enough and make us including senior citizen walk from carpark and climbing staircase to check-in. As expedia VIP, there didn't get any extra offer or upgrade, this quite disappointing me due to my status just seemed useless.

Dip in our room’s outdoor private pool

Overall is good but the hot water is not as hot as it is. So when we want to go for a dip in our room’s outdoor private pool, the water is not hot. We cannot dip at night in our private pool.

Perfect place for family getaway...spectacular view

The quietness and calmness of the hotel is still as inviting as it has been. However, could see that the hotel is quite dated in terms of facilities and the room itself. A refurbishment would definitely uplift the experience for guests. Kudos to the hotel for providing complimentary masks and hand sanitisers in each room

At first I was ok.. Given a complimentary 5pm checkout n some small deco for my wedding anniversary.. But comes to our dinner.. The staff refused to give us dinner at Tepi Laut.. Telling us that it's full n given us to other restaurant with limit rm300..i booked with dinner at Tepi Laut with unlimited order.. But then.. The staff named

Beautiful, spacious and wonderful facilities, restaurants and food. I think this has now become my favourite ever hotel and we will return, hopefully soon. Fantastic hospitality, and my wife shed a tear when the staff sang to us as they bid us farewell.

This is a great resort that provides many activities for the guests. All of the staff are friendly and very competent. However, they are extremely understaffed to service a resort of this size. Each time I try to make a reservation at the restaurant or an activity, even to buy ice cream, there is always a wait of at least 15 minutes. Yes, we are on vacation and we have a lot of time. But we don’t want to spend our vacation waiting on staff. When we are on vacation, we want the staff to wait on us. It was quite surprising to find out that they charge for all activities, including non-motorized water sports. And because of its location, it was quite expensive to get anywhere. Even the staff admitted that once we mark the resort as a pick up or drop off point, the Grab rate goes up.

Seariouly recommend!!!!!!!! You must go!!!!!! I will go later with my future kids

Hospitality all around

Our stay at Rasa Ria was beautiful and memorable. The staff went all out to make us feel welcomed and cared for. Even though the hotel is huge, there is a spirit of hospitality all around. The only inconvenience is that we were asked to make reservations for dinner by 6pm daily. I'm not sure why this was necessary and would have preferred the flexibility to make dinner plans at the last minute.

This resort has nailed everything a holiday destination should have. Everything is available in the resort and the service is top notch. Well done, Shangri-la!

WOW

The Shangri La's Rasa Ria Resort is great. The location is perfect, secluded spread out and the beach was empty, sea was wonderful. Rooms are large with a lovely balcony overlooking the pools and the sea. The resort is doing its best to be environmentally friendly and we really appreciate that Though it is a large hotel it is well spread out so one doesn't feel overwhelmed. While we were there the occupancy was almost full but one didn't realise it. There are 2 pools, one with a water slide for kids. Food was also great. Breakfast catered to a variety of Asian and western tastes. We were upgraded to a Junior suite and were delighted. Thank You, we will definitely return.

The resort is clean and spacious and that's about it. There were many activities but the popular activities were fully booked. Breakfast spread was wide but alot of flies were feasting on them. Rooms were tired looking (no bathtub). We were told to book dinner by 6pm, which we thought it was rather inflexible and rigid. Many tourists from Mainland China. Sorry Shangrila, not my kind of shangrila experience.

It's the little things that make it so special, the cold hand towels passed around, the amazing and friendly staff, we also loved the rooms, food, and so many beautiful sitting areas.

Great experience of staying!

It was a great experience! The golf lesson was very nice. Horse riding, tennis lesson, fire fly watching, etc. activities were good as well. The only unhappy thing was the rude taxi driver who drove me to the airport from hotel.(I asked the hotel to arrange the taxi for me.)

The beach is nice and the sun loungers are well-spaced and nicely positioned. The swimming pools are large and nice but one of them ( the better one) is reserved exclusively for ocean wing guests. Breakfast is good. The level of maintenance in the room is poor. There were several defective items in our room including lights, sink, bath, safe and clock. There was supposed to be an evening turndown service which we never got. The check- in process took a long time ( approximately twenty minutes) which was ridiculous. This was because we were offered a grossly overpriced upgrade which we declined. The receptionist seemed surprised that we did not want an upgrade and she then had difficulty finding an available room of the type we booked.

Good, but service needs to improve

Although staff was very nice, it was evident on several occasions that they need to be trained better. From check-in to the housekeeping to restaurant service, we were consistently disappointed. The kids club (inside) was very underwhelming and bare bones, however, the 2 outdoor play areas were great. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and the beach/pool areas were nice with plenty of lounge chairs. Food was pretty good too, although over priced. Overall, we were happy with our stay, but probably wouldn’t return again.

Beautiful resort in a lovely secluded location. A perfect getaway. Staff are very courteous and very helpful. Rooms are very clean but a bit dated apart from that we really enjoyed our stay and return in a heartbeat.

Friendly & warm service by all staff. Property needs maintenance. Toilet doors in a few of the ladies that I went to were not working and seemed to me that the restaurants are very short of staff. We dined in almost all the restaurants and stayed in the Ocean wing. Honestly I expected more from Shangri la brand.

Beautiful - must stay!

Beautiful grounds and staff. Great food and lots of choice. Huge and clean rooms and the bed was very comfortable. Nice touches like free fruit in the room! We just wanted to relax but there were lots of activities on offer too and a great massage service on the beach!

Great resort. Loved it and would happily return. Would Not choose rasa ria for wildlife (see it elsewhere) but a useful add on. Pools and food great

10 star service and stay - exceptional!

From the second we arrived our stay was nothing short of perfect. The fantastic room, calm and quiet atmosphere of the ocean wing, fabulous pool and beach and the exceptional staff. By far the best hotel we’ve stayed in and can’t wait to return already. The staff and their consistently friendly manner, remembering who we were each day down to allergy’s and check out date. The dinners at the coffee lounge done by Harrees were brilliant, with a special shout out to Eddie who was lovely and attentive. As I have allergy’s, Harrees walked me round every dish explaining the ingredients and what I could and couldn’t have. 10 star service and stay!!

Personal and attentive interactions. They treat you very well! Quite remote from the city. Some would like being cut off but others would have to factor in travel time (1.5 hours return) to the city.

Beautiful place, kids love the pool and conservation areas. Maintained beach, great food. Perfect place to relax in KK area.
