A great location and very friendly front desk. Small but just fine
The staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful I have come across in a long time. Location is excellent. Rooms tired and dmall
Handy place to stay
Welcoming and friendly staff. Had a back room which was quiet. Very close to time square and major theatres, situated next to the book of mormon. Hotel itself is run down, threadbare carpet etc but its fine if you all you want is a bed for the night.
This wouldn't be for everybody. Elevators don't always stop on the floor, you had to have the front desk get ice from the restaurant....but I wanted a New York experience....and this was EXACTLY what I wanted. Loved it. Great staff. Room was small, but again... that's what I wanted!
Loved the design of the rooms. Beautiful wallpaper and bed spreads to match!
Very small room.not properly insulated that we can feel the wind and very cold weather from outside through the windows. Definitely needs some updating..saw several permits for construction posted on the door. Few blocks from Times square and subway is a big plus.
I knew it was an older hotel, but i like historic. However, wall paper was falling off in my room and TV was locked behind a glass enclosure. Felt a bit sketchy. Luckily the sheets were clean.
The staff was beyond rude while checking in and the room is outdated and cold!!
The location.. Fast check in and out.. Staff was friendly.. .
The room was very small and just looked worn. The doors to the entrance of the hotel had missing handles.
Very quaint. One elevator that is rickety enough to cause concern that it probably breaks down regularly enough. (Wasn't scary or a fear it would break down at anytime--just that it probably does happen.) Nice bathroom and good soap. Some room-specific disappointments show a potential overall lack-of-attention: clock wasn't plugged in and set (and the radio function broken); desk worklight inoperable; toilet seat did not stay up. Bed comfy and room, although tiny, is worth the tradeoff for location and price.
Very well located and nice hotel.
Very well located and nice hotel. I recommend.
Hot as Hades
The room was stifling hot and there was no temperature control. I spoke to the front desk and was told to turn on the air conditioner, which was several feet over my head, above the window. The remote for the AC did not work, so the desk gave me new batteries - which also didn’t work. I stood on the edge of the bed and tried punching buttons. They were barely in reach and I couldn’t read what each one did (they were both faded and above my eyeline even when I stood on the bed). On the first night, the AC unit rumbled and roared so loudly, I couldn’t sleep. So I turned it off and slept on top of the covers - in January! The second night, I managed to find a quieter setting so instead of two hours sleep, I managed four and a half. NYC was in the middle of a heat wave, so there was no reason to run the heat at all this weekend. I had been told after night one that they wouldn’t run it the following night. Well, they did. I expected the room to be basic as the building is old, but I couldn’t make it work for me.
Great location. Room was small but the location and the price point for the area made up for it. Fit my needs. Room was comfortable.
Lovely very homely fantastic location. Rooms dated but perfect Collin price range
Much better quality than the price deserves, very good value for price, A lot more amenities included in room than expected.
Small room but great location.
This hotel is in a great location — within walking distance of most of the touristy things and the subway. The room itself is small but mostly comfortable. I don’t know if the single is large enough for two people but it was perfect for a solo traveler. My only negative with the room was that there wasn’t a way to control the heat. A staff person advised that I would need to turn on the AC if I wanted to cool the room. However, the bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were tidy, so I would recommend.
The best hotel
We are very impressed with this hotel. It’s very comfortable, the bathroom is awesome.! Night shift in front desk (Lee and Mike) are very professional and very accommodating to our needs. The room was very clean all the time. Santos (lady who cleaned my room) was very friendly with us and made an excellent job all the time. Location is the best!!! We love this hotel and absolutely next times we return to NY of course we will be here!!! We recommend this amazing hotel to family, couples or business people!
OK based on location and price
Traveled alone to see shows and catch up with friends. The location is perfect and the price was great. Despite being near Times Square, the room was extremely quiet. The radiator heat was too much, so I slept with the window open. The bed was comfortable and the shower had good pressure with lots of hot water. But the decor is very dated and it’s a bit run down.
perfect location
it's NYC - so the room was small - but comfortable (loved the toile!) but the location was PERFECT - walkable to everything we were there to see for Christmas in NY
As I walked into my unit and set up all of my luggage and belongings, I noticed water dripping from the bathroom door. A few minutes later there is hot water streaming down from the ceiling, to the point where water was seeping into the carpet of the bedroom and the hallway. I understand that things like this can happen but the staff didn't offer to rectify my situation. I had to grab all of my belongings in a rush to go down to the lobby and ask to be placed into another room. They reluctantly agreed but I feel like things could have been handled much better.
Consistently Great
Always a pleasure staying here. The people at the front desk always remember me and it’s a very quaint hotel.
great location, good value, dated décor but comfortable
Trouble maintaining temperature. Was too hot and room notice said only ac was allowed which didn’t work. Had to open window which didn’t cool it down much.
Would definitely recommend this hotel, in the middle of broadway and right on the doorstep of Times Square. Perfect location and perfect for the price. Rooms were clean and comfortable, bed sheets and towels could be changed on request and the room was made up each day.
Great trip amazing staff and restaurant we will come again
The Mayfair is central and cheap. The room was clean. That's all I can say good about it. The hotel is the definition of "shabby." The woman who staffs the front desk during the day is helpful, but the rest of the staff acts like they wish you weren't there. BTW, the bed isn't even a Queen-size; it might be a double, but may be smaller than that.
Location is the only thing good about this hotel. Located in the heart of the Theater District. You can walk to any Broadway Theater in 10 minutes or less, most are less. This is a very tired hotel. All the finishes, carpet, paint, wallpaper need to be replaced. Staff at the front desk was efficient, but not very friendly. Restaurant next door was pretty good. The cheesecake was excellent.
Old property poorly maintained. Tried two different rooms. Could not control heat. Tub and sink did not drain properly.
Large shower, comfy bed, excellent location, hotel is old and run down, window let cold air in
Good location Run down, could do with a makeover, very old fashioned and dated .
Excellent location and friendly staff. The conditions of the building need to improve because even that is clean does not look that way. Especially need to put attention to the bed sheets and covers.
I stay at the Mayfair whenever I am in New York...an old hotel but quiet with great staff and close proximity to restaurants stores and subways
When asked help, the staff were busy of playing game
I liked it proximity to the theaters; I disliked that it lacked a gym, refrigerator, and microwave.
Small quaint and kind.
I have stayed here 4 times over the last 2 years. I like the place!
Good value for the price.
We went to the city to see the book of Mormon. This hotel was incredibly convenient as it was right next-door. I wasn’t expecting much for the low price that I paid and I was not disappointed. What we got was a small room with a bed to chair’s TV set and a nice clock radio that sounded very good. The bathroom had a walk in shower sink mirror hairdryer toilet, everything you would need and was generously sized. We went to the city to see the book of Mormon. If you are looking for affordable accommodations to spend the night look no further. It is an old hotel that hasn’t been renovated in a while but the rooms are very clean. The bed was a little too soft for my liking but for one night I was able to deal with it and slept very soundly.
The staff were lovely and the hotel was exactly what I expected. The location was amazing, making my stay a great one
It was a really cool stay was in such an excellent location everything was right here 10 min walk everywhere
Staff was friendly. The location is spectacular. Condition of property is very run down and in need of substantial renovation.
Great Location
Great location, around the corner from Time Square. Has not been updated for along time except for the free Wi-Fi and a very strange bathroom sink. The rooms are relatively tiny but the price was right.
Good as always.
Good price for a cold room
Hotel is well-located and the price is right. The room was cold and the in-room thermostat didn't work. Hotel needs an update...elevators are slow.
Don't stay here
This hotel should not be listed by a good on-line website. The rooms are small and cramped; the heating was sub-par (when the temperature outside was 23 deg F), and the single front-office person was mostly surly. A fellow traveler noted: "this is the worst hotel I have stayed in"
The place smells of hamsters. Worn down carpet deco.
The only good thing about this hotel is very close to time square . Thats it
Price is affordable, service is good, you should just expect for what you paid for as this is New York! Hotel location is perfect- very convenient and accessible to everything you would like to do, eat and visit in NY...
Because of the price, I was not expecting a clean and modern room (in fact, I brought a can of Lysol). But I was pleasantly surprised. The bed was similarly as comfortable as beds in name-brand hotels costing twice as much! Only one elevator, though, but I was on the 3rd floor and could easily walk up and down the stairs.
Very good location excellent place to stay but my last day the was not hot water and couldn’t take a shower.
Excellent location, less than 0.5 mile walking distance to time square. Room is small, but you got what you pay for.
Location in the Broadway Show District is great! The Hotel is old - but, not in it much with sightseeing and Plays. Front Desk people are very friendly and helpful with tips on getting around NYC.
Great central location!
This hotel is in an excellent location! Very central to everything. The room has space for only a bed, no room for a vacuum cleaner or mop and pail. If you are just there to sleep, it works. The linens were clean! It did include a bathroom in the room but the 4 foot window in the shower (that overlooked an office and patio) was a bit intimidating. The moldy ripped blind didn't offer total privacy, hoping that showering in the dark prevented any entertainment for the neighbors :)
Excellent location! Friendly staff! It was very hard to regulate the temperature in the room and the outside noise was very "New York"!
A comfortable, reasonably priced hotel in the centre of entertainment district. Great for transport. Hotel was rather old and run down but clean. Nice staff.
This is a relatively inexpensive hotel in a great location. It is an older property and could use a little love. The carpeting on the stairs needs to be replaced. The elevator is very slow. The courtesy computer was not working. The television did not work. The room has no view. However, you don't go to NYC to stay in the room. This was a safe place to spend the night.
Older building, but comfortable and clean, great location and price
Its an older property, clean and friendly, but quite dated for the prices they.charge.
Good value
Well-located, and a good value for the money. The Internet connection is adequate for e-mail, browsing of written material, and streaming of podcasts -- inconsistent for streaming of videos.
If you are looking for a high-class, fancy hotel this isn’t it. BUT it was perfect for the location to theatres, restaurants, time square. No refrigerator. Did have room safe. Windows do not open easily and AC was noisy. Rooms are small, similar to a cruise ship. They had to move us because the sink wouldn’t drain but the AC was quieter in the second room but it was at the back and outside noise was a lot. Get a room down the hall towards the front and you’ll have less noise. Overall it was fine for the price paid.
Look for another hotel
We stayed for 5 nights. Our room was small but again that is what we paid for. The bedside table is dusty, even the phone, the aircondition is dusty. We even see a cockroach in the toilet. The only good thing is it is near the subway and 5-10 mins walk to the bus terminal going to the airport. If you are looking to save, book this hotel but for us we will never book this hotel again. Rather pay extra to book another hotel.
Nice location
Hotel is in a great location for Times Square, Broadway etc but the actual hotel is very dated. It is clean and staff polite but the rooms are very compact and space is very limited, especially in the bathroom where you have to sit on the toilet sideways as there is no leg room. Overall an ok place to stay.
Liked the location, close to Times Square. Bed was good, size of room was adequate. Dislikes: The room, halls and lobby need a total upgrade. Carpets and furnishings were dirty and shabby.
The in room carpet was torn and dirty and the TV has only limited channels with quality receiption.
Right in the middle of the theater district...very convenient. Needs some serious updating.
Great location but the carpeting and hvac need to be rethought.
Excellent location. easy to get to all the major features of Manhattan. Helpful staff. Needs a little upgrading though,. much of hotel is very tired looking.
Very shabby interior. Carpet worn through, scuffs on the walls, ancient shower that would get stuck in the off position.
Property is delapidated. Carpets are filthy and pulling away from the wall. Chair rails and base boards in the rooms are dusty. One inch of dirt/ dust in the corners in the elevator.Remote control had crud on the buttons.Overall disgusting.
Property is outdated. The only "amenity" for $7 daily "resort fee" is WiFi.
Tiny old elevator. Tiny rooms. Tiny bathroom. Had to sit sideways on the toilet. TV had 5 channels that worked. Way too expensive.... but a good location.
Nothing likeable about the hotel. Dirty, small and smelly rooms..dirty and rusty bathroom and toilet. Hotel needs renovation.
Disappointing
Vary dated and worn out finishes, carpet stains, remnants of broken hooks, etc in bathroom, crappy residential style window air conditioner, and room had an odor. Too many negatives for the high cost...I don’t care if it is NYC too expensive for what was provided.
Pros: excellent location near Times Square, helpful staff, comfortable bed, big-screen TV, piano in lobby (if desired), good restaurants nearby, very close to subway stations for access to many parts of the city, relatively close to Central Park, reasonably fast elevator, good supply of hot water Cons: frayed carpet on main stairway should be replaced, shower tray in bathroom looked unclean and probably should have been bleached, bathroom floor could have been better cleaned before I was given room access, air conditioner was noisy, room was very small (though probably most NYC rooms are small), free wi-fi apparently wasn't secure per message received on my computer
The property had an ideal location just off Broadway, even so, the room was very quiet. Air con worked well, as did wifi. Ironing board and iron in the room. Only let down was lack of Tea/Coffee boat in the room !
Do no recommend
The hotel was clean. However, old odor. Very limited service. TV did not work and was fuzzy to view.
Location was perfect. Room was adorable. Small but equipped with everything needed. Clean and great bed. Staff was exceptional and so friendly. Anywhere I wanted to go they could get me the perfect subway directions. I will definitely stay here again. I do suggest that the elevator be refinished as it looks really old and worn out.
Location good, air conditioning too noisy to have at night
Great location, friendly staff, a great bargain in NYC. Right in the theater district and walking distance to great restaurants
Great central location, small single elevator, small but acc
Very good location, small rooms and bad air conditioner.
Very central location, property needs updating but no complaints as it was very clean & reasonably priced for New York City
Best location for the budget, 5 mins walk to times. Rooms were small but clean.
Bare necessities hotel but decently priced
Decently priced hotel with the bare basics. Check-in was quick and was able to check in our bags after we checked out ($2 fee per bag). Room was small, no refrigerator or microwave.
Gross and small
Weird staff. Tiny room and elevator. Room was dirty. Stuff on the sheets. Bed was a rollout. Never again
great location. The hotel is in need of major refurbishment, Carpeting filthy and worn,
great location. block from times square. close to several subway stations. friendly staff. our room was very quiet. great price. if you need amenities and room with a view go spend 500 a night at chain hotel. if you need basic place to crash that leaves you some money to get gouged everyplace else in NYC, this is it!
Hotel was in great location and good value for this. We were very satisfied until ripped off on fare for car to the airport. We were told a price + a commission to the hotel but then driver insisted on a far higher fare
Old fashioned and pleasant. Small rooms but fabulous location.
we were disappointed in the hotel.
Close to time square and subway. Room was very small but we only slept there. Didn't spend much time at the hotel.
The location is great. The hotel itself is dated and tired looking. The room was very small but the shower room was a good size! No bar area to relax in
Fits the bill
Right near Times Square, small but neat. Cool older building. Good water pressure!
Location was fantastic. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff was very cordial and helpful.
The term well worn would be easily applied to this hotel. Though clean enough with very nice white, comfortable bedding the property itself has seen much use. Perfectly located in the theater district.
Anniversary trip
Great location, friendly staff. Live coming here
Not the best place
Room was super hot but old window air conditioner was so loud. I spent the entire night unable to sleep, switching the air conditioner on and off. There was a long hair in my “clean” bed sheets. Floors, carpeting and walls severely worn.
Great value - best location in Manhattan
This hotel is a gem, nestled away a few blocks from Times Square and in the heart of broadway and all the musicals around.
Was very old and dome general upkeep would be beneficial
Fantastic location, fair price for the area. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were small, but the above makes up for it. The hot water wasn’t working in the sink for my stay (Not a huge deal because I was only staying for one night, but a minor inconvenience). Have stayed there Four times now and would definitely go back. It is a good budget friendly hotel for the area considering the location and price point.
Great location, just off Broadway and Times Square. Great staff, building a little bit run-down but my room was kept spotlessly clean - wonderfully comfortable bed. Good bolthole for an amazing city.
