Hotel was closed when we got there and we’re told they had a emergency evacuation 2 days ago because of wildfires.
Nice place in a beautiful area. Staff was very friendly. Had an excellent burger at the restaurant. Could use a little care, several light bulbs in the room flickered or were out. It was a bit far from GTNP, longer drive than I thought it would be but it worked out okay.
There is no AC units no bathroom fan you had to go to the restaurant for ice
Enjoyable weekend
Very friendly people. Very comfortable and accommodating. Would definitely recommend to anyone for a peaceful, friendly place to stay.
Sad experience
Forest fire changed our route to lodge 6hr. Lava lodge wouldn't refund money because we couldn't make it.
We booked a night stay here and the hotel was inaccessible from either point of entry of the road it sits on due to the state closing the road for a forest fire. I called the hotel early the day of when I saw the warning on the GPS and they confirmed we could still access their hotel and the road was closed "a few miles up from them". We drove 20 miles towards the property only to find that the road was closed 16 miles before we could get to the hotel. Nothing changed on the DOT website for where the road was closed from the morning so the staff was just uninformed. I called again and told them there was no way to get to them and requested to cancel and refund. The staff wasn't super friendly or even empathetic. Customer service could have gone a long way here. They cancelled but refused a refund, which was mind bogglign considering they were inaccessable for another 24 hrs. No servies/stay were rendered and we're expected to pay? When hurricanes hit and businesses need to close, they don't still charge people services. Its the cost of doing business. Its unforunate a company is unwilling to do the right thing in these situations.
Is ok for very minimalist. No amenities (no coffee, microwave, fridge etc) and washer/dryers do not work. Understaffed with what appeared to be one person running food and lodging. Did appear to be clean.
Cabin like hotel in the middle of nowhere
This hotel was just a place to sleep. There wasn’t anything close by.
Extremely rustic lodge. No mini refrigerator, no microwave, very poor internet connection. A bed and a shower, nothing more.
Was cozy.
I liked that it was a good price. I didnt like that there was no air if you get hot you have to open a window. Also the water was white. And no dinning
They charged a bunch of hidden fees. Kind of feel swindled.
Overall our stay was good. Ate dinner at the restaurant attached to lodge. Pizza was good. Staff very friendly, but they seemed short staffed to cover all areas. TVs in room don't work, so don't expect too much.
Lots of junk lying around the property. Rooms were clean but need updating. Toilet seat was about to fall off. On the upside, our server (Hunter Sitzes) in the restaurant took great care of us. The restaurant was out of most everything we wanted but he and his female helper made our experience enjoyable with their cheerful, upbeat selves.
Under staffed. Main lodge not kept up. Room was neat and clean. No refrigerater in room
Loved the cozy atmosphere and the views out our window!
It was a cheap place to stay on its last leg. The bed was broken and the mattresses were very old and dirty. The pillows were barely there. The overall property was not maintained or updated. The staff was nice and accommodating. The amenities like coffee bar, laundry facilities and WiFi were VERY limited. No coffee, only one washer and dryer that worked that everyone had to wait for. We were barely able to use our phones with the WiFi and weren’t able to use the tv at all because of the WiFi connection.
Okay
We stayed one night in one of the front rooms. The room was very large and clean. It seemed to be fairly recently remodeled with fresh paint and trim and newer carpet. We arrived late, a few minutes before 9p. Checkin was easy as our key was left on the front door. One reason we chose to stay here was because they had a bar and restaurant but unfortunately both were closed - I should have double checked the hours. It is miles to any alternatives. The beds appeared to be newer but they were not super comfortable- definitely on the hard side. Each bed only had two pillows - two more per bed would have made it much more comfortable. There was not a coffee pot in the room and the pot in the office was broken but we were able to buy a cup in the restaurant. Overall it was an okay stay - good price for the area, large and clean room, could have used a few touches to make it more comfortable.
This property is really old, and needs major renovation! The mattresses were disgusting, the carpet was smelly and in need of replacement, the ceiling had water damage, and you can hear water drip somewhere in the walls or ceiling. The bathroom was filthy. The door would not secure. I returned to my room from a long day of excursions to find my room wide open. I informed a staff member (she was lovely) however, she advised that room #7 & 8 (which we were assigned) has an issue with the locking mechanism that they couldn't fix. This situation could have been easily fixed by replacing the old damaged door, that you can see the outside from the lower portion of the door frame where it appears that it may have been kicked in once or twice. The gift shop was old, dusty, and in need of a deep clean and overhaul. The staff were helpful and nice. Another good thing about this location is that you could park directly in front of your room, which was quite helpful to load and unload your vehicle. The best plus about this property is that they had electric charging station for electric vehicles. That was fantastic! This property has the potential of being great. It needs a complete overhaul.
Needs ac, other than that, awesome. Maybe fridge in room.
This location is very remote. It was good place for a quick stop to rest. It was reasonably clean. The beds were not overly comfortable but we rested ok.
No amenities, major updating needed, No maintenance!! scheduled for two nights, could only stay one night ,Because of horrible conditions would not refund money for the second night!!!!!!!
Friendly staff
Never again
When we arrived at 3:20pm we waited at the office desk for 20 minutes for someone to check us in. The whole building including the restaurant was empty. We did finally get checked in. Dinner was tough. The one employee here has to go back and forth between running the bar, cooking all the food, and checking in people. Our room was disgusting. The counter and sink look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks and the toilet and tub are worse. A literal hairball is sitting on top of the drain. When I visited the front desk and asked what could be done I was told that there isn't anyone available to come clean and no alternative room. I asked for cleaner & some paper towels so I could clean it myself. It took 5 minutes to find cleaner. I offered to bring back the paper towels when we finished cleaning our own bathroom but was told for my troubles I could keep them. They actually helped since our room had no hand towels. Also no soap, no washcloths, or cups. After we cleaned the bathroom we decided to call it a night. Discovered that of the 2 double beds in our room one was missing the top sheet. We were supposed to stay here again in a few days but you might imagine our family won't do a round 2. There is a no refund policy within 7 days which is understandable but given our experience I asked if there was a manager. I was given a # for corporate. I called and was told by the answering service to send an email. The email bounced back undeliverable. Buyer beware
Beautiful place to stay. Wish I would have had more time to just look at views from the hotel.
There was a hole in the screen about the size of a quarter and mosquitoes got into the room! We had to close that window leaving only one opened!
The hotel is well loved, and in need of some repairs. That said, the staff were friendly and helpful, the linens were clean, and we had a good night’s rest.
I liked being in a remote place but close enough to town. The staff was friendly and the views were spectacular
Hotel with a scenic view. Even got to see a few elks around the property. The room was clean and the receptionist was helpful even though we checked in late in the evening.
Great stay, good food, excellent views.
Could be better
The staff was amazing. The location fantastic, it was clean, But the property needs some TLC, has been let go, and no microwave, no fridge
Everything was wonderful here. I believe her name was Cindy, she helped check us in and was very helpful plus she said she's only been there 7 days. Pretty amazing customer service.
we enjoyed our stay here. It doesnt have all the bells and whistles some want, but we like the western log style appeal...staff were friendly
Beautiful views from the room but no Internet connection if you come here with a child make sure to bring a dvd player or something. The staff were absolutely amazing and super friendly! Cash only store and bar
My room was warm & comfortable. The staff is very friendly. When I arrived into the lodge there was a nice warm fire burning. In my room the bathtub was very grimy with long black hairs in it. The rest of the room was clean. Overall, the place is enjoyable. Most of all they were very dog friendly.
Charming place and great staff
Katina was so friendly and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was great. I wish the room had a mini fridge.
Buyer beware
We booked this hotel because it advertised a restaurant on site, with a lounge. These were not open, so we had to drive back to Dubois after driving all day. The room had 3 light bulbs burned out. We had no hot water, and was told someone would be there to take care of it, but never heard back. Staff is on site, just not at office, they stay in a big house behind lodge. WiFi is spotty and there is no cell service. Rooms do not have air conditioning, we were ok, since it was May, but probably not if staying in summer.
Good place for the money!!
It was the end of the snowmobile season so they only had a few people on staff, but they were ALL amazing!!! Great service, fun and friendly. Beautiful views and good prices!!
Nice clean rooms, easy access from your vehicle to the room. Hassle free check in.
Not clean
No air, restaurant was closed, closest place to eat was 18 miles
No soap at all, but room was warm, safe and pretty comfortable
Like being here!
Excellent value for a basic room in the lodge. Easy check-in with friendly staff. I’d stay here anytime I was in the area!
No coffee or tea available or offered. Restaurant was closed in the morning.
Hotel staff was rude, room was dirty, no internet or phones and no way to contact hotel staff if you needed anything. Ran out of toilet paper and had no way of getting more. Had no amenities you would expect in a hotel and was very unclean. Would have walked out if there had been any other option available within 50 miles
It was awful. There were no towels and very little t.p.I had to go and find someone to get me some towrls and t.p. there were no amenities at all. A light bulb was missing. I got less than what i paid for. The only positve thing i can say about this place is the scenery around it.
Nice view
Good place to stay before going into Teton or Yellowstone NP room basic nice view restaurant was good
This motel was fine and served our purpose very well. The views were very good.
Avoid this property at all costs unless you want to pay for a "camping" site. A/C didn't work in any of the rooms (3) that we paid for (temp was 84 degrees in the room when checking in); rooms needed repairs (painting, updating, etc.); no soap in room (liquid or bar); no breakfast and no coffee available in the morning. Basically, the owner doesnt care!!!!
This property does NOT offer guests any coffee. They have a coffee machine in their lobby but apparently do not use it and there is no option for making coffee in the room. Staff directed me to a restaurant OVER 30 miles away and this was the closest place to get any kind of coffee or breakfast. Property not air conditioned and there was no screen on the door so it was not possible to get cross ventilation without insects.
The location wasn't bad, but there's no pride in ownership. I was shocked.
Everyone was very hospitable and courteous.
Cheap, cheap, cheap.
The motel did not have any air conditioning. It was a fan in front of a crank window. The bathroom did not have any soap, not even to wash your hands. No refrigerator, no microwave. Outdated, with a repaired front door. Two mismatched chairs, two uncomfortable beds. A built in table the tv sat on. Another table, and a side table. Two lamps did not work, and no wifi password.
Room was very spacious. We would have wished that they offered a continental breakfast like cereal or bagels and coffee as we left early in the morning to take advantage of the day and you are not allowed to cook in the room. But was a nice place to stay overall.
Great quiet place to stay. Pretty barebones but that’s what I like.
Well for starters there was no refrigerator in the unit. Very disappointing, not even a mini fridge. There was no microwave either in the room. We had to use the microwave in the main lobby which is only open after 8am till 8pm. Not very convenient if you like to start your day early. Also, there was a constant flow of people using the communal bathrooms, some of which were not even staying at the facility. Additionally, there is what appears to be an old greenhouse which is currently being used for storage. This would be ok, but it is blocking the beautiful view of the river valley which you can still see if you walk past the greenhouse but not from your room because this structure is rather big. On the plus side you are very close to GTNP and about 20 minutes away from Dubois.
The location was very scenic and felt parklike!the rooms were rustic but felt like a “cabin in the woods!”
Nice and unique hotel.
When we arrived we found that our reservation through Expedia had been cancelled by the "owner" of the Lava Mountain Lodge. Apparently, if I have the story straight, Expedia gave me a discounted deal, and the owner didn't want to accept that low of payment, so he cancelled it. They never contacted me. When I showed up, they did not honor the Expedia reservation. But luckily they had 1 room left which they rented to me at the regular high price. Very disappointing. But I needed the room, so I took it at the higher price and paid them by my CC. They said Expedia would refund the amount I had previously paid to Expedia when I made the reservation. I hope so.
No office ether night or morning. No ice. Room very clean. Parking very dark.
Do not stay here, No wifi, No cellphone service, no microwave no daily cleaning no hair dryer beds are very uncomfortable filthy room. 2.5 hrs to Yellowstone Park, 30 min to nearest store/ restaurants.
It was fine
Pleasant, nice staff.
A very nice, western place to stay. Staff and service were excellant, pleasant and interesting. Only issue was lack of cook for breakfast. Totally forgivable with state of economy.
The room was NOT clean. I had to remove a clump of long hair from the bathtub drain. There was mildew and brown stains on the shower curtain. There were blood stains on the mattress cover. Listed amenities include laundry facilities. Laundry room was locked. I asked about opening it and was told no laundry facilities. This place should not be listed on any reputable travel site.
Old dirty room but fairly priced
Stains on the ceiling tiles from a leak. Broken toilet seat. Mold on shower curtain. Very weak wifi signal. No A/C when it was hot in the evening. It might be great as a stay for a hunting trip with the guys, but not where I should have taken my gal for a weekend trip.
Friendly host and a restaurant/bar but not serving breakfast due to lack of staff, a problem everywhere. Rooms were clean but no kleenex or cups. We had a comfortable night!
This place has lots of potential
The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. It's a perfect rustic Wyoming getaway.
The staff were nice but are definitely not available after 8:00 to help you. It’s in the middle of no where so there’s no cell service which would be fine except there’s no wifi because they haven’t paid their bill. The rooms are dark & pretty dirty/dusty. Sheets are definitely scratchy. They say they’ve got a hair dryer in the room but they didn’t. The area they are in is beautiful.
The dining facility was very nice and very friendly staff. Sandwiches were the dinner menu. However, they did not serve breakfast and there was no where to eat for hours. Description of lodge should state it is miles from any thing.
Nice and clean. Thank you!
Great stay
We had a great stay. The room was large and decorated nicely. The food was delicious and a good price.
The room was dirty when we checked in. The toilet looked and smelled like it hasn’t been cleaned for months.
A lovely spot for an overnight stay. Unfortunately they were under staffed so the dinner service a Was very slow. The poor guy serving was off his feet but did a great job in the circumstances
Clean spacious rooms at a fair price. The attached restaurant/lounge was nice and the staff helpful and friendly.
Property and views are great! Staff super great and food good! Just not enough staff for the property. Our room was not very clean and had no hot water. Place would b outstanding if they had enough staff to do what’s needed.
Great place
Amazing place. Clean and beautiful. It’s about 45 mins from north entrance of grand Teton and 1.5hr from south Yellowstone entrance. The surrounding is beautiful. The price is right.
Great location and fantastic staff. Taylor and Marty are top notch
HORRIBLE -- DO NOT BOOK. It is a scam now
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Read all the other recent review! They gave us a dirty room that hadn't been cleaned after the previous guests, YIKES! Lava Mountain Lodge SCAMMED us and left us helpless. My wife and I booked this place and we showed up after 8pm. So we were aware that there would be no one would be at reception. That usually would be no issue if the room was in good, or even ok condition. However, the room they left for us had been slept in and used by other guests before us, AND NEVER CLEANDED! The beds were a messed and smelled like someone who had bad hygiene had slept in it previously. There was trash in the trash cans and elsewhere as well. Based on the level of trash, I'm guessing the previous guests had slept there at least 2 nights. There was a pile on nasty wet towels in the bathroom doorway. The toilet was definitely soiled. It horribly disgusting. There was also tiny little pebbles all over the floor, don't know what that was about. But to make everything worse, there was no way to get a hold of customer service. So we were forced to either sleep in the nasty bed, or sleep in our car. There was no cell reception there, nor was there wifi working, so we couldn't check if any hotels nearby had availability. There was no one at reception the next day either to help figure things out We tried resolving the issue and maybe get a refund or at least partial refund, but the people were awful to us. I called the Lava Mountain Lodge and the guy that answers the phone
Nothing to like
Beautiful Mountain!
Marty was amazing in the way that he handled a botched hotel.com reservation. He was patient and persistent until it was straightened out. 🙂
DO NOT STAY HERE
The hotel was not open when we showed up for our reservation. They charged us the entire amount, even though they were not open. We are out over $500 for a stay that we could not complete, and could not cancel, because THEY WERE NOT OPEN! No one answered the phones, no one was there.
Arrived late after check-in closed, but they were so nice and left the key in an envelope on the lobby door. Car was able to park directly in front of room. Such a beautiful, authentic western feel to the room. We arrived when it was pitch-black out so we were thrilled in the morning to see the spectacular views. We could hear elk bugling from our room. The lodge overlooks a gorgeous valley between two mountains. There were horses free roaming in the valley we could watch and pet near the barn. There is a gift shop and restaurant in the lodge. Laundry room available but we didn’t check it out. There is (admittedly very pricey) gas available out front to fill up your vehicle. Such a great location. Such a great place. Well worth the money.
Awesome place. Quiet. Great location.
Good for one night stay.
We decided to stay here from hearing about it from a group of sleders. We saved money and used our points on Expedia ($89 of points) for this stay and the 2 double bed room still came out to 85$ cad. We loved the grounds and the staff were amazing! We were disappointed in our room. The beds felt like a glorified cot. Very old and uncomfortable. There was not enough toilet paper for the night and we had to get some from car mid-night. As others have said the wifi is only strong in the restaurant which was no issue for us. Still a wifi booster doesn’t cost much…The restaurant food was ok, we were skimped on sausages for breakfast. None was there for any of our meals. We were told there was a recent change in management for the worse. Would we stay there again, no. Next time we will stay in the next town out at the super 8 cheaper for the expected same experience.
Staff is friendly and helpful until 8PM when everyone goes home. There is no cell service here. Our room didn't have strong enough internet for the TV to receive any signal.
Rustic lodge
This is a rustic lodge that had the necessities of bed and bathroom/shower and TV. Wi-Fi very weak. Restaurant on site but very basic and some items bland for dinner. Decided to drive to nearest town for breakfast.
Good location. Staff slow in responding at front desk. Room was clean and up to date.
Rustic
Needs to be updated. Carpet was torn in front of door and stained. Bathroom toilet was too low and seat was broken. Toilet had brown marks inside bowl. There were hairs on wall in shower. Yellow spots on ceiling in bathroom, looks like mildew. Had fans in bathroom but we never found switch to turn them on. Dirt or mold on baseboard. No phone in room and no cell service. Called before checking in and asked if there was a fridge in room . I was told there was but when arriving there was not! I am diabetic and need a fridge for insulin. Was very disappointed. I did have an electric cooler, which was good I brought it to put my insulin and snacks in. Only got 1 key for door and they were old locking door knobs.
The room had 0 amenities. Not even plastic cups for drinking water. No coffee etc. The TV was a TLC Smart TV with no local channels and required Wi-Fi. I used their guest login and had to log in to my own private account on Hulu which kept disconnecting because of poor Wi-Fi connection. I paid around $300.00 for 2 nights but only stayed one night because the facility was worse than some of the 3rd world places visited over the years. The restaurant was run by a very nice young guy and can’t blame him for the low quality of offerings but the pizza I ordered was horrible. Wasn’t even round lol. The dough was a grey color and had a strange texture and taste perhaps resembling Old Testament Unleavened Bread. Which with a house salad that fit in a hamburger container cost me $47.00. I left before the office opened knowing that hanging around to request a refund for the unused night would have been akin to getting a decent pizza or TV channel. This room should have been priced at $50.00 per night. By far the worst I’ve experienced having traveled world wide over past 45 years
Friendly staff and ok rooms but the main problem was that there was no phone or Internet access in our room which is a huge challenge for vacation planning and other communication needs. A positive was the breakfast we had in the restaurant. Great food and service.
Beautiful place with not to comfortable stay
The lodge is at a serene location. And close to teton National Park. We reached late in evening, the manager had kept my room keys in an envelope stuck to the main office door. The issues were: There were ants in our room. No AC in room. No exhaust in bathroom. Sink drain was nearly clogged. Coffee maker was not in room. And for drinking water we had to go to restaurant (next to reception area) and fill it for us. Which they were kind to do it.
The room did not have air conditioning.
This is a beautiful piece of property and we loved the rustic, spacious, comfortable motel rooms that looked out at the mountains and pasture. Everything was super clean. The staff was not the best. There was no one to check me in when I got there. I had to go into the restaurant twice to try and get help and it took 15 minutes to hunt down a person on my own. (one of the men forgot about me and asked me about half hour later , “Hey I’m sorry! Did anyone ever help you?” We ordered take out pizza from the restaurant , but they forgot to put our order in. So when we went to pick it up at the designated time, they told us that they forgot and hadn’t started it. In addition, I realized I was charged $11 dollars extra for our two pizzas. While the stay was great, the employees are not.
The rooms were worn and dated. The windowsill had a littering of dead insects on it. The base boards had a thick coating of dust on them. The carpet had a few stains. The walls are thin, so you hear your neighbors through the night. There was some funny sound that came from the plumbing. It is a two star place. It could be better but would need a lot of TLC and more hired help to make it a place on the map. In the end you get what you pay for, it was cheap.
It is a scam. DO NOT book this place.
This hotel is a scam. Hotel owners asked us to call them if we are going to be late. We called all day long and nobody picked up the call. Even multiple (5 and counting) hotels com reps called them to no avail. We drove there late and when we reached there, nobody was there and nobody opened the door even after knocking on the door. There is little to no cell service in the area. So we had to find new accomodations at midnight. What is worse is that hotels.com will not take any responsibility for hosting this kind of place on their website. It has been almost a month and I am still trying to get my money back.
The hotel management did not contact us when they are closing down due to the forest fire in the area. We showed up at the hotel and saw a notice on the door. We called the hotel and one of personnel said they will refund the money then hung up on us. We unable to connect again and have to scramble that evening to find a place to stay, but nothing is available at least 30 miles out; so we are ending sleep in the van in one of the hotel parking lot approx. 25 miles away from Lava Mountain Lodge hotel. It is unprofessional as part of hotel management run the business. Never want to come back again.
