Basic but not really family friendly
Window didnt close properly as a frame was in front of it. Very noisey other residents shouting about 3am doors banging. No WiFi in room
Location was brilliant, 5 minute walk to central Edinburgh. Great transport links, buses and trams to get out and about at good value for money. Hostel was more than adequate for our needs with only one negative, being on a main road, it was noisy but not much can be done about that but will ask for room on other side next time i visit. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, service was good. With regards to food, we choose full breakfast which include both options making it expensive and given the two choices a little unfair as i personally would not require the cheaper option when selecting the cooked breakfast option. Maybe you could look at offering two options with one price for the selected rather than charging both prices just because someone prefers a cooked breakfast. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definately visit again and will also recommend to friends.
Great value
Can't fault it. Staff are so lovely.
Good facilities, short walk into Edinburgh old town. Lots of shops surrounding, lovely staff
Just the job
Just needed a clean, safe room for the night - met three other ladies, nice chat. Good sleep. Perfect
Perfect for our one night stay in Edinburgh. Clean, comfortable and convenient.
I enjoy every time I use youth hostels in Scotland. They are affordable with nice and modern decor. The Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel was just what we needed for a weekend break, just minutes away from the city center, restaurants and shops. Plenty of parking and this is free on weekends. Staff were very nice and excellent customer service. Would definitely come back.
Had standard ensuite room, nice and spacious
Poor value for money
Room smelled of sewage and thought stay was poor value for money
better than a hotel I stayed in
I have stayed at this hostel many times but always before with other people-= so it was especially great to have a room to myself - with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The buffet breakfast was good and coffee was too .The last time i stayed the road outside was being converted for the tram lines-but now that the tram runs almost to the door from Waverley station and the airport it is excellent. The room was clean modern and a lot better than the hotel I stayed in for the rest of my holiday near Loch Lomond. I will be back but for a longer stay next time
It was a great two nights staying in the female dorm. The road is a little noisy but everything else was great! Would stay again.
Very well located and friendly staff
Well, where do I begin… the images that were displayed were completely different from what I booked. The images were taken pre COVID and they clearly need to be updated. Believe it or not I worked at Burghley House as a waiter/servant for the Queens jubilee in 2012… I would like a refund sent back to my account as soon as possible. Please consider your options carefully.
It was a great place to stay and in a great location being a 10 min walk from old town. I would recommend this place to everyone. The only thing to complain about was the price was a little high for a hostel but everywhere in Edinburgh is expensive to stay.
Comfy and basic
Beds were comfy and rooms were clean, perfect for a one night stay if you're not looking for any too fancy. Communal areas were comfortable too and they have a room with a ping-pong table etc.
Clean enough . Very loud doors when they shut so kept up by loud neighbours at times . Could do with a bit of renovation. Overall was alright place. Bed comfortable.
Room is clean, window was cracked open (3rd floor). Laundry facilities available & working, location is very good. Intended to drop off luggage & they let us check in an hour early!
Staff were very nice and the room was very clean. But the free Wi-Fi connection was terrible, on and off. The speed without Wi-Fi was also slow for some reason, in the lobby and in our room.
Staff was very kind and accommodating
good location
Great room layout for a family
It was ok
The staff members were friendly. The location is great, close to the railway station, the playhouse, the new town, and the Royal Mile. Upon checking-in, we were assigned to a different room type without being prior informed. No towels were provided for a private room. We expected a bed without a top bunker to avoid bumping the head during nights. When making the booking, it stated the payment would be taken when checking in and it was refundable before a certain date, later the full amount was taken in advance and the booking became non-refundable, which is very strange. The self-catering kitchen only had 2 tables so you'd have to sit on the couch if they were occupied. It was generally clean, but places like behind the bathroom door and the ventilation fan needed a good clean.
Good hostel
Big hostel with big rooms. Basic but everything you need. Clean. Nice and helful staff. Not too far from station or anywhere else you need to go. Can't fault the place. Would stay again.
All fine for one night. Pity breakfast didn't start at 7.

Clean friendly and accessible. Fantastic brekkie too😊
Decent Hostel - floors are gross
Good location. Floors are carpet and looks like they are never cleaned. But decent hostel.
Excellent. Excellent price, good location (but not in the historic centre of Edinburgh), simple decoration and super friendly staff. If you decide to have breakfast, I would suggest scrambled eggs over the buffet.
Great location - cheap and clean!
Perfect for our budget
When arriving , there was no booking for second party. I had to show my bank statement to prove i had paid gor 2 rooms , hence, had to wait for a srcond room to be prepared for my husband and I.
Had an excellent stay, have been before and certainly be back.JACKIE DOYLE
Very reasonable given the covid restrictions in place. Our room was clean and spacious, with very strong water pressure. We were also impressed by the quality of the cafes and restaurants nearby.
Lovely hotel we will be back
central youth
will return excellent great situated near pricessis street very clean reat price x
Good hostel, the shower was a bit aggressive with the amount of pressure it had but apart from that no complaints
The staff were all friendly and helpful, the laundry facility was great. Very reasonably priced, liked that ensuite rooms were available.
Best Accommodation!
Excellent room, excellent receptionist, best location. Loved it. I definitely recommend people to stay here.
Great value for money
We spent two evenings at Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel. We chose a private room, which was clean and spacious. Bed was comfortable and staff friendly. It is a hostel which offers budget private rooms, so do not expect any extras or much luxury. However, still a good and well located place to rest after a long and enjoyable day exploring Edinburgh. We recommend the hostel and would be back again.
Great, cheap place to stay, provided you don't mind sharing a room with someone else. 👍
Great place to stay - easy to get to from the station and very clean
Budget choice
First night of our stay we booked a double room and only offered a twin room as they were overbooked. We were told they have luggages custodian services for a charge but then told me not for overnight, we were struggled as we joined a 3 days tour to highland, luckily we could bring along the big and heavy luggages with us for the trip. When we came back from the trip we checked in the hostel again, and found that the utilities were not cleaned up from previous users.
Cheap for Edinburgh city centre. Clean basic ensuite room
Basic but in a great location
Within walking distance of old town and close to bars and restaurants
Desk staff and breakfast staff superb Clean facility Quiet Wifi frustratingly slow
Room was basic as advertised, but clean, quiet, comfortable and came with a well provisioned communal lounge/Cafe. Hostel conveniently located close to amenities, and within reasonable distance of town centre.
First time to stay in hostel
1) breakfast not worth 2) suppose to include towels, but only 2 pcs for 3 px
Only downside is that the ladder to the upper bed is too tiny and narrow, hard to climb down
Upmarket Hostel
First time staying in hostel for about 40 years. It was close to city centre and was perfect as stop over for one night.
Good
Great
Nice hotel. Great location.
Overall is really good. The hotel staff are so nice. Good location and very comfortable. However, i’ve order a food at the cafe and it took more than 20 minutes to get my order although there’s no customer there. Anyway, the others are fine.
No Mixed Dorms :))
I’ve only stayed in a couple of hostels before and was attracted to this for the fact it was the only one I could find with separate-sex dorms (i.e. I was in an all female dorm). Plus, the bathrooms were in each room not one big communal bathroom. The rooms were clean, big for a hostel, the shared kitchen was big and clean, and it’s eco-friendly. It caters to large groups, including school groups, and is NOT a ‘backpackers’. The area is great and very accessible to any part of Edinburgh. I felt safe the whole time there and the staff were lovely. I would 100% stay here again or any other Hostelling Scotland sites.
decent location of Edinburgh
It’s a good stay for groups of friends or family. There’s a kitchen and common room that’s open for everybody in the hostel to use so it’s quite convenient. The room is pretty decent and clean but there is no housekeeping. Location wise, it’s a little far from the City Centre but it’s walk-able I suppose. There are also restaurants nearby.
Nice place to stay
Edinburgh Central very easy to get to from Waverley Station, Airport Bus drops off there. Local Buses runs 24/7 ~ only let down, if you don't have a bus pass (no info on how to get these or where from) you need to have exact money £1.60 for single trip or £4 for full day as bus drivers do not give change. Our room at the Hostel very small (private with ensuite) but suited our purpose, clean, war, mattress's very hard. Excellent security both in and outside, staff very courteous and helpful, Full breakfast nice £6.50 ( need to buy voucher first), did not avail ourselves of main meals but did have snacks and soup, both very nice. Check in check out very simple, Direct phone connection to taxi company if needed. Would definately stay here again as good value for money.
Never again!
We had booked a private room for three people, all confirmed in emails but we had TWICE in 12 hours' time other people accessing our room as the reception staff had allocated them a bed in pour room. One was after 4pm, staff apologised it being their mistake after I went to the reception and the woman a bed had been allocated in our room agreed to wait in the corridor, the time this happened was at 04.20am when we were fast asleep and my husband woke up when a woman (intoxicated or and/or on something else) dived into his bed and dug her hands into his ribcage! She refused to leave the room and climbed onto a upper bunk bed with all her clothes on (where we had our personal stuff including binoculars and a laptop) and refused to wait in the corridor as I dashed to the reception once again. Staff were helpful (were able to remove this lady from our room) and accepted it had been their mistake, once again. This left us feeling very unsafe and shaken and just wishing the morning came quickly and we would be able to speak with the manager and leave. The assistant manager in the morning was helpful and got in touch with the manager who promised us full refund as I stated this should not have happened, their computer system should be more up to date to allocate rooms and we are not willing to pay. Luckily it we were three adults and able to defend ourselves! Spacious room but only three chairs despite the room having five beds, draughty window by the double bed.
Central
Does what it says on the tin!...................................
Very basic facilities. clean and comfy though
It's a youth hostel! However, for £66 a night for a double room I expected more, a TV in my room, a kettle, a double bed without a bunk bed on top of it, carpet on the floor, and breakfast included.
Good for a basic stay
I had a private room at the hostel. The room was very basic, which is fine, but the biggest issue was the drains in the bathroom. The shower drain did not flow and I had to turn the shower off for shampooing to avoid water flowing out of the shower room. The water stayed on the floor for most of the night. Also, the bed was very small, which was fine by me (I'm 5'2"), but a taller person might struggle. The floors were also not very clean. It felt like a stripped down version of a school dorm room, so even for a hostel it was a bit bare. Location and staff were great however!
Basic comfort taken care of.
Shopping centres , eating places in the nearby vicinity, staff with readiness to help. Happy stay. Enjoyed the stay in short.
Basic hotel near city centre
Disappointed with my choice of hotel. Better suited to younger people which I should have known!
Basic rooms but Overall clean and well presented, Staff excellent and well mannered, couldn't have asked for better service. However blinds didn't close properly in room and outside traffic very noisy when trying to sleep, but as it is Edinburgh this was expected. Hostel close to all amenities and just a short walk from the play house, and a half hour walk or 5 mins in taxi to botanic gardens. Recommend this location if you are looking for a cheap, basic room, which is clean and central to surrounding attractions.
Generally good standard. Overheated, but lots of traffic noise if you open windows. Unusual that taps in room don't provide drinkable water.
Stop-over in Edinburgh
Needed somewhere to stay for one night and booked here for myself, daughter and grandson. It's about 15 minutes walk from the railway station. Room very clean but small. Had been led to believe we would have a room with three single beds but were given bunk beds and one single bed. Not much space for three people to move around and nowhere to sit except on the beds. Thought it was expensive for what we got especially as breakfast was not included. But area was nice and plenty places to eat nearby.
Ok fairly central hostel
Ok hostel, central, but definitely a little overpriced for what you get. The shower was very tight and awkward and there is not enough room for 6 people to stay comfortably.
Flooding shower
In terms of cleanliness the room and beds were fine, as were the toilet compartiment. The shower thing was disgusting though, flooding and dirty. Wifi was very very slow, and there were no plugs for the top beds. Employees were friendly.
No towels provided and expensive for what it is
It shouldn't be advertised as a hotel since it a hostel. We slept in a room that was supposed to be double but had bunkbeds, not comfortable at all. On top of that they did not provide towels, even a 1 star hotel gives towels, they charged quite a lot for a night, very expensive for the quality of service
Amazing hostel
Great. Reception was really helpful, storage is cheap and convenient, and a stones throw from one of the main attractions ( canton Hill). Will definitely stay again.
good place to crash
Stayed here for 3 nights. Good location, a simple 10 mins walk from Waverley Station and central Edinburgh. Friendly Staff, clean room and facilities. Only gripe was the internet was at times a little slow on the 3rd floor
Great, cheap stay for an overnight trip.
Very easy to get to, & travel around. Quiet, despite being on a busy road. Comfortable bed, clean room. Cafe menu looked interesting, but I didn't try it.
Edinburgh
Really enjoyed our stay! Everything is walking distance and nearby
Great hostel
Great hostel, clean, modern, comfortable and central.
Booked a room for one night for a family of six. Great with option of one room. You have to ask for towels. Three bunk beds. Toilet and shower separately. The mattress especially in the lower beds where a bit wore down. Only a small chair and three chairs. Couldn’t sit in the bottom beds.
Nice Hotel. The Room was big enough. The Hotel Staff helped us. It´s only some meters to the City Center. The scottish breakfast was very nice.
Gutes Hostel, etwas laut mit dem Verkehr.
Dirty linen, noisy & cold
- our room looked like an Usa Jail cell's facilities - the linen were dirty - no shampoo & shower gel - the room was cold - it was noisy at certain times of the day - bad check in and out times (4pm and 10 am) + The shower facilities were good + The staff was super good and helping + Helpful with storing our luggages
Safe
