We liked that it is by the river. Our room had a view of the courtyard and we were gone for the majority of the day so view not important but it was nice if using dining area. The breakfast was adequate but they need to have coffee out all day since there is no coffee maker in rooms. One night they were busy in the dining room and the front desk person was working in the restaurant so has to wait to speak to her...they seemed to be short on employees but maybe they were just busier than usual in the restaurant that night. Our room was a good size, comfortable beds, efficient air conditioning when working. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Our last night it wasn't working but within 20 minutes the problem was resolved. The shower door leaked but we just put extra towels down to soak up and let staff know when we checked out. Staff were all nice and helpful. We had a very early departure on last day and they arranged a taxi for us and had breakfast boxes for us. The taxi driver was on time, professional and reasonably priced. It's only a 10-15 walk to all the action downtown. Overall, a nice place to stay at a good location.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel, good value and helpful, staff were quiet good, in fact. Food was very average and the area a bit suspect. I was told not to leave anything valuable in the car which was left out the hotel overnight. The rating would be higher if I had not been there with a car.
Excellent property
The property was pretty nice, the manager was questionable, and the location around the property was good because it was close to the city center, walking distance from the city center and near everything you needed.
Breakfast was nice. Cooling option was not available in our room. We were told AC availability was floor by floor rather than room by room. Felt like we were being put off. Privacy in bathroom is not good. Would not recommend to people traveling with friends.
Amazing
Porto was a brief stop on my way to walk the Camino. Vila Gale was a wonderful and unique hotel. The room was comfy and modern at the same time. The rooms are also themed which add an additional dimension. The staff very friendly and breakfast was utterly delicious!
Amazing experience
Amazing! Great location, excellent food and service! If you're looking for somewhere quiet, but not too far from the main attractions then this is perfect!
Rooms were nice and staff was nice but carpet in the hallways was very dirty and stained, and smelled bad.
Nice modern hotel with beautiful river views!
Staff very professional amd exceptional service. Very beautiful rooms and easy to get around by walking.
Well placed property by the river. Good restaurants nearby. Very quiet.
Great location near trams and buses. Adequate yet confusing breakfast. Limited staffing for the restaurant but a couple of good alternatives nearby. We did have a river view, however the window was small and high. The room could benefit my hanging a bar table and chairs. No Kleenex to be had for n the room. A pet peeve of mine.
Excellent location with many cafes a very short walk away.
The tram into Porto ran right in front of the hotel. Not much action at the hotel itself but some options adjacent to it.
The Douro River
This hotel was nicely located by the river, not too far from downtown and the beach. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food options were fresh and well prepared. The morning breakfast buffet was excellent! The room was very basic with few amenities but it was clean and the beds were comfortable.
Wonderful
Very good hotel , good location.
Had a 3 night stay here. Excellent staff and rooms. Very good eco friendly policies in place. Room was clean and comfortable , breakfast also very good - both hot and cold options. Location abot 10 mins walk to Ribeira which suited us and meant hotel was quiet at night. Several very good restaurants literally on the doorstep if you dont want to go too far at night. Would very much recommend and would definitely stay here again if back in Porto. Thanks to allthe staff who made our stay perfect.
Great location with s beautiful view. Perfect spot to stay, walking distance to great sightseeing destinations and local cafes and restaurants
Staff were excellent and friendly. We liked the small buffet breakfast in the morning before tours. Rooms were very clean and made up each day. Trams and buses are right across from hotel. I had small issue with hot/cold water in shower which staff noted and said they would address. I would stay again.
Front desk offered porto tours, map,and fado show beside the hotel.
La decoración, y el garage integrado al hotel
Loved the location; beautiful out of the way street away from the crowds. Local restaurants in the neighborhood are quite good as well. Room was a bit dated not sure it commanded the price. Loved all the art; breakfast was a wonderful addition.
Location was very good, walking distance to the major attractions. The tram for city tour passes in front of the hotel, and easy access to it.
Near the Douro River Parking difficult and paid No health club Simple breakfast Comfortable rooms
Excellent hotel, and the service in general excellent I will recommend 💯 %. If I will be back, I will stay there again. Perfect location.
Set in quiet area but walking distance of the city centre. Good food with some excellent local restaurants nearby - good spot with nice views down the river and across to villa de gaia - tram runs right outside the front door (literally) but is quiet and causes no problems rooms a comfortable and clean. Hotel staff excellent and friendly.
a nice hotel. very basic. nice location. nice breakfast rooms ok
Did not live up to its pics. Maybe pics of a different Rive Gale hotel?
A pretty good stay, overall
We liked the hotel well enough. The staff was excellent and super friendly. Breakfast was pretty good and we ate in the restaurant one night and the food was good. I was surprised the shower had a bath gel/shampoo-only option with no other amenities. It seemed limited for a 4 STAR. I understand that the idea is to be eco-friendly - but there was hand soap in a pump at the sink and the shower soap was also the shampoo that made our hair sticky. There are better, eco-friendly options that we have seen where the products are in different containers and of better quality. We also did not like that door to the toilet is glass and does not extend to the ceiling. This leaves the toilet open to the room ( there is no door to the bathroom area) and does not offer much privacy if you are traveling with someone. The beds were single beds that were pushed together. The window opened to the courtyard below. The antique trolley option was helpful with all the walking and was located minutes from the Hotel. Again, the staff was really nice.
Excellent stay
Nice finish to Portugal
Nice, quiet stay with a quality breakfast. Walkable to the main Ribeira, with transport options readily available if 15 mins are too much. Nice big room, but no separate bathroom (WC and shower directly accessible from main room, with exposed bathroom sink).
Two rooms booked. Anticipated balconies with both.
Nice hotel right on the river, easy walk into town and other sites. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Full breakfast was included with cost of room. My only issue was the keypad allowing entry to my room was not functioning, and I had to ask staff to unlock the door every time I returned (this occasionally involves waiting in line at the desk). Everyone was pleasant about this, but I was not offered anything as compensation for this inconvenience.
beautiful hotel, great room and big bathroom.
Our room smelled dampness the first night we arrived as if our room was recently recovered from a flooding issue.
A good setting by the riverside and not that far from the city centre. The staff are cheerful and helpful. The decor wouldn’t be to all tastes.
What a beautiful hotel with awesome location! I felt that it was a little bit away from the crowd but just a walking distance from the center of town. Breakfast was comprehensive. There’s a couple of restaurants next to itt that offers amazing seafood menu! I am impressed by this hotel and will be returning soon
The outlook was nice, overlooking the river. We did not like the dinner menu.
The hotel was very chic, if you prefer less crowds, this hotel is for you. The breakfast was very good and the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is away from the center, but if your purchase a hop on hop off bus pass you can see all major sites and it's very close to the hotel.
Right downtown. Friendly staff. Quiet. Restaurant available downstairs.
Good choice
This was a great location with excellent views, accommodations, food, and service. Hotel staff gave great recommendations on where to visit for first-timers. Location is about 5-10 min. drive from the city center, but can also be walking distance depending on where you are located. They also have an extraordinary view of the water in front, which is also within the view of the lobby and breakfast area, giving guests a nice view while eating. Breakfast is great with lots of choices and quality of food.
Great hotel for a short Porto vacation.
The hotel is great overall! It is by the Doro river and surrounded by a bunch of local restaurants and walking distance to Porto downtown, about 20 min walk. The room I booked was simple but clean. The staff are supee friendly and the hotel restaurtant is great for both breakfast and dinner. The hotel has about 10 parking spots, but they are tiny, smaller the car the better.
Great location on the river front. Tram runs right past the door.
position on the river and not noisy. Lovely courtyard for a quiet drink after sightseeing all day
Good location on quiet quayside with tram outside and great restaurant nearby, called ‘Monchique’; hotel staff were very helpful, friendly, working hard, and wonderful breakfast buffet; liked the art theme and live music, would return again in a heartbeat!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lots of variety at breakfast. Would be good if the hotel offered a wider dinner menu and perhaps a pool and full spa experience in the future.
Great location; near the river. The in-room decor; with the fresco on the wall; was interesting.
We got all necessary recomendations from the concierge. Rest, tours, everything.
Location was perfect for me for San Joao festival because It was not too crowded.
The hotels computer was down when we arrived so they offered us a drink, which was very nice. Staff was nice and the room was clean but ordinary. Here a heads up to get to the front of the hotel it’s a one way road with Tram traffic. Yikes. The parking garage directions would benefit if shown on a map but the Parking is really secure. The biggest problem is that we were told when we couldn’t connect to the wifi that it doesn’t always work with iPhones or iPads.
Friendly staff
Great breakfast, great staff
Staff were very friendly.
Great breakfast, very friendly staff.
Nice option out of the busiest touristic area
My wife and I stayed for 5 days to explore the area during Easter Holidays. The hotel is reasonably well located, not really there on the main attractions area but within a walking distance from Cais da Ribeira which ended up being not so bad because the city was really full. Fair size room and breakfast.
Great hotel situated just outside the old centre with a good position overlooking the douro. quiet, comfortable room, friendly staff and generally good hotel. decent eateries close by and supermarket located couple hundred metres out to the right (opposite the helipad) great stay, many thanks to all at the vila gale.
Wonderful hotel, 15 minute walk from main centre
Delightful stay in a beautiful boutique hotel. Breakfast was delicious, with a large selection of choices. All staff were extremely helpful and made us feel most welcome.
Staff and location are great. Great little hotel that made you feel special and at home.
location and the breakfast was excellent............./..
The view of the ocean view room is like no other !
Nice hotel, 30 minute walk
I chose this hotel because I wanted a river view room, at a better price than a more central location. The view wasn’t worth the half hour walk. It was a high window, you had to be standing to see the view. Aside from inconvenient location for walkers, the hotel is very nice. There’s an artsy room decor. Breakfast had omelets and pancakes plus a huge spread and delicious coffee. We used the trolleys for transport uphill and along the river. They were fun but they end very early like 7:30 . There is s very good bar and tapas place next door too. Otherwise you’re out of the action.
very new and clean, good location and people very nice
Nice hotel / perfect location / professional and friendly staff
Lovey hotel a short tram ride from the centre. Clean rooms and friendly staff with a wonderful breakfast included. My only criticism would be the slightly cold feel of the bar area in the evenings which is set up more like a restaurant and just needs some couches to make it a bit more cosy! A good find.
Great getaway place to stay while visiting Porto.
Perfect location on the river and away from the really busy area. Rooms are very spacious, breakfast included with an omelette station. Cute outdoor patio on the back and one in the front. Close to restaurants, grocery store and river cruise. View at night is lovely - we were very happy with our stay!
Great Porto hotel off the beaten track
Staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful! Busy hotel so rooms at end of corridors are quieter. Airconditioning quite fierce and noisy when room facing inner courtyard
Beautiful understated hotel overlooking the river
The hotel is quiet and the decor unusual - art is the theme and each room has a mural of an artist. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is about 1km from the centre, but there is a bus and tram nearby and taxis are reasonable. A selection of snacks, salads etc are available all day and there is a pleasant courtyard at the back of the hotel
The hotel needs updating. It does not feel like a four star hotel. Hard to get to with a car
Quiet, recently renovated hotel directly across from river within 30 minute walk to main tourist area. Several restaurant and bar choices within 100 m of the front door. Rooms are spacious, well appointed with king size beds, and spotlessly clean. Big walk in shower with plenty of hot water. Hop on bus stop a block away and hotel can sell you ticket. Reccomend this as best way to get around. Do get off at the beach area and have a drink at one if the many bars. Uber is also here. Included breakfast is pretty good with lots of fruit, basic eggs and an omelet station. The Sandeman port bar just outside front door has a great deal for 7 to 9 euro of 3 port tastings with very generous pours.
Decent choice
Stylish, comfortable hotel, no complaints. About 25-minute walk to the Ribeira, or take the tram which stops in front of the hotel.
Very nice hotel
Comfortable and clean, breakfast very good. A bit of a walk to old town (about 20 mins), but easy along the river side. Porta is still a bit shabby sheik, a bit alternative in places, but very nice and welcoming. We had a lovely time there for a week end and there is plenty to see. The hotel was ideal, the staff very helpful and we did not want for anything.
Nice hotel
Stayed here for four nights. Picked it because it was next to the river Doura and it was reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and as the weather was good we could eat it in the courtyard garden. In hindsight I think I would have chosen a hotel nearer the centre as it was a good 20 minute walk to get to the centre. That said we could have taken the tram every time as it stopped nearby. Room was nice and quiet with a safe. Personally however I do not like glass only partially obscured bathroom/toilet doors. It's one thing if you are with a partner but if you are staying with a friend it lacks privacy.
Modern hotel by the river with its own parking garage, About 20 minutes walk from the historic cebter and with many excellent reataurant choices nearby.
Quiet hotel overlooking the rivet
I had expected it to be in Ribeira but Miragaia was much nicer and we were within walking distance of 2 tram lines. The breakfasts were excellent and the internal courtyard very pretty for sitting, reading, drinking.
Lovely hotel away from all the fray
First room was too small. Had to upgrade. Rooms with a view are lovely. GreAt breakfast
Nice hotel boutique, great staff, very friendly and helpful
A charming hotel in what is now a wonderful city.
This is a super hotel situated outside the main bustle of Oporto but close enough either to take the picturesque tram or to walk in to the city centre. The riverside location affords glorious views across the Douro and the hotel is comfortable, cosy and thoroughly delightful. The rooms are quiet and well sound-proofed, although the nearby helipad can still make things noisy during the day if you're outside on the street or in the internal courtyard. Breakfasts are good and with a reasonable choice and there are also sufficient good choices of snacks and sandwiches available throughout the rest of the day until 2300. The staff, who all appear to be local, are typically Portuguese, smiling, helpful, cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. They are proud of their hotel and their city and justifiably so, for this Unesco Heritage City is now a splendid place to visit and the Vila Gale a perfect place to stay.
Fantastic hotel
The staff at this hotel were just amazing. Friendly, helpful, and went out of their way for everything.
The staff supported our stay impressively. We were welcomed by Sara and Eugenia and Natalia. Very nice folks! So were Joao at the evening desk and Luis, our server. These employees made our stay extremely delightful. I applaud their constant efforts to make sure all was in order. By the way, their English skills are remarkable!
Very good location, not in the busy part of Ribeira but close enough to walk to it or take a quick tram ride.
A perfect place to stay in Porto
A very nice hotel with an astounding view of the Duoro river and a pleasant atmosphere around. Evenings are heavenly when spent on the hotel outside cafe.
Excellent hotel with ‘boutique’ atmosphere.
Overlooked river with excellent travel facilities to enable sightseeing and visits to nearby resort beaches.
Loved my stay!
Place was great. Check-in was smooth and the location, along the river, was really nice. I prefer being a little away from city centers; it was a pleasant 10 minute walk to the historic center. The hotel has an artist theme. I got the Hieronymus Bosch room! Breakfast was included and was fantastic - great selection, including omelettes to order. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Will return!
The hotel was lovely, in a great location. Very clear, staff were very friendly. Would have been good to have a room with a balcony to show off the great view, but otherwise everything was great!
porto
excellent breakfast , room and service
Nice quite hotel
Nice quite hotel just away for the hustle and bustle but close enough to the centre.
Vila Gale - best chain of hotels
Vila Galé Porto Ribeira is an excellent hotel. It is part of the Vila Gale chain of hotels who have a very high level of attention to detail. Its location is along the river, with several good restaurants in the vicinity. A fifteen minute walk will take you to the main restaurant area.
Very well located, a few walking minutes from Ribeira tourist area with loads of restaurants and things to do. Rooms are not big, but very comfortable, clean and quiet with all the amenities needed to spend a few relaxing days. Very good breakfast, extremely helpful staff. Garage is a bonus in an area where parking is at a premium. Art quotes and replicas all around in the hotel is a nice touch and adds to the ambience. Will certainly be back!
A very welcoming team ( thank you !! ) caring about my comfort and flexible enough to accept a change in my reservation. Very nice breakfast. All of this in a very nice neighbourhood
Wonderful stay
Wonderful art themed hotel with staff who accommodated my gluten free needs 🙂 helpful and happy people to ensure we were content 🙂
Loved the helpfulness of the staff. The room was comfortable and I was able to control the temperature. Lovely big breakfast buffet in the morning. Really wonderful, accessible property along the River Douro!
This was a totally positive experience! Great room and view of the river. Very convenient location for restaurants and sight seeing locations. This is a winner!!
Duoro Experience
Excellent location on the Duoro. Close to city sentry and tours. Great bars and restaurants close by
Nice. Hotel, great location
Nice hotel with a great location. The breakfast was good and the staff was helpful. If you are driving, are sure youget a spot in their garage.
Very good hotel. When you know exactly how the vintage trolly routes work it is great. The trolleys run right out side the Hotel.
Staff very professional. Breakfast presentation top class. Extremely clean and very tastefully decorated. Terrific location. We will recommend this hotel highly!
hotel staff and facilities were great they gave us something to eat, since we had to leave before breakfast was served
Quirky Hotel
Very convenient location for public transport, tram and buses a couple minutes walk. Quiet as out of the main tourist buzz. Our room was at the rear of the hotel - no view to speak of but very quiet. Breakfast a little limited but adequate, hot cooked food available if you asked (not sure if charged extra). Beware of bar prices, extortionate Gin and Tonic! Great restaurant 2 doors away. Hotel is great for art lovers - our room featured Michelangelo.
The first thing we noticed was the welcoming and friendly staff, everyone spoke great english and were so helpful with everything. Vila Gale Porto Riberia is a really lovely, newly re-furbished hotel, about a 15 minute, really pleasant walk or 5 minute tram ride from the centre of Riberia. The room was large and comfortable. There is an outside patio at the back of the hotel which is well set up for drinks or breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel, and you have a choice of rooms from looking out on the river, to looking out on the patio.
Wonderful hotel by the river
As soon as we walked into the hotel, we were impressed. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly and our room was spacious and well appointed. We went down for a drink at the bar, where the bar staff were equally friendly. We slept well on comfortable beds and in the morning enjoyed an excellent breakfast watching the historic trams go by, which we took to get into the centre of the city and out to Foz at the mouth of the river. All in all, we couldn't fault this hotel at all.
Would highly recommend
Great Hotel, location was really good, food, service were all amazing
Our room was a river facing room. The hotel had unique artwork everywhere and an offered a great breakfast. Our room was spacious, the staff was lovely and helpful. About 15 minute walk into the thick of the city.
