We were in a small double which was ok for what we paid but there was a crack in the sink, shower and floor tiles as well as a trip hazard with the carpet loose upon entry to the room. Room was very cosy when we arrived but heating was off both mornings even though it was very frosty conditions. Breakfast was filling and good selection.
Good value for money (winter rates)
Short business trip. Ideal location for me. Recommend room 101 as the shower was amazing.
Our room was lovely - massive, spotless clean BUT the temperature of the room was close to that of a Sauna And there was no way to turn the heating down or off. Staff wonderful. Accommodation in every other way great. I had to go and sit outside the place was so hot. I overheard other hotel guests also complaining of the rediculous heat. I did tell reception who said she had to phone the manager. The response was that it couldn’t be switched off as other guests would be cold.
The room was clean but the bed was very hard. We didn't get a good nights sleep. Also the property is in need of some tlc and general freshening up. There was only one server at breakfast with a full coach tour in, it was very unfair for her. She did her best but was clearly under a lot of pressure.
The desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. She gave us directions to a great restaurant. My personal favorite was the extra large shower with endless hot water.
Just an overnight stay for the football which was just a walk to the stadium so very handy
When I first arrived, there was no one there to let me in. I rang the doorbell several times but no one answered. I was locked out for about 1.5 hours, waiting in the cold. When someone finally arrived and let me in, I was almost charged again for the stay which I had already paid for through Expedia. (Thankfully, I asked what the charge was for, and that cleared things up.) I was given the key, but I was not told which way to go to find the room, so I had to ask. I was not notified of other things that a guest would normally expect, such as how to access WiFi, or when and where the included breakfast would be available. The bed was clean and comfortable. There was sufficient storage space for my needs, and the bathroom was clean, too. The room was poorly lit, however. The bedside lamp was nice and bright, so I relied on that for the most part. The bathroom light often flickered badly when I turned it on. (There was one evening when it didn’t do that.) The shower was nice and clean. However-and this is the most disappointing part-half-way through my shower (and I usually take no longer than 10 minutes for my shower) the water ran out. I had to wash the soap off of me at the sink. When there was no more water in the shower stall, hot water at the sink also didn’t come out. (I assume they are connected.) The cold water still worked so I had to wash the soap off of me with the cold water at the sink. The cleaning crew seemed kind and friendly.
Clean and friendly but not considerate of guests
Not the best of stays. First night I arrived at night and found no hot water in my room but no one was around at reception to either help or move rooms. The second night, someone thought it was a good idea to have not urgent maintenance go on from 9pm-1am sanding down and scraping the walls. Unacceptable. Wouldn’t stay here again.
Booked here because had been to the bar /restaurant earlier this year and was impressed with it but when we got there restaurant and bar was closed only had room which although clean was very small
National Hotel were fab. Hotels.com were crap
Hotels.com were supposed to have moved out stay from the Friday to the Saturday. Despite speaking to “Jefferson” to arrange this, when we arrived on Saturday, the hotel had had no communication from hotels.com! Luckily we saw Kate on reception, she booked us in to a spare twin room as our double was not available. She was brilliant. Hotels.com were not……. I would stay here again but would definitely not book through hotels.com
Handy and comfortable
A handily-located, friendly hotel with comfortable rooms and a good breakfast, with a variety of hot dishes cooked to order. Big fluffy towels and adjustable shower are nice touches. It's located in the town centre, a very short walk from the station, so useful if going on trips to Kyle or the Far North. Also handy if you’re a football fan as Ross County's ground close-by. Bar wasn't open on our visit but the same owners own the Mallard pub, at the station down the road, where hotel guests have a 10% discount off food.
Check in was unusual, having to phone as arriving after 8pm. Given key box code for access to key, was easy enough. Room small but clean and tidy. Heater in room was on which was a warm arrival but room became very stuffy and no window could be opened. Only stayed over night and didn't try the breakfast.
Enjoyed our stay at the National Hotel. Lovely breakfast & friendly staff.
Decent accommodation for backpackers.
The staff were exceptional in providing a service. They were polite, courteous and knowledgeable. Leia was friendly and made you feel at home with her cheerfulness and bubbly nature. 3.5 stars rating is about right for this Hotel but it wouldn't take much to obtain the other half star. Location is perfect as its situated on the high st and next to the railway station.
Loved our stay
I paid £101.85 for 1 night in the National 19th century hotel in Dingwall, Scotland. The room had a vinyl-covered floor, squeaking door hinges and no heating. The corridor floor squeaked as guests traversed it. The tap in the shower was inoperable at 11pm (room 122). So no shower then or before my early departure. Hotel manager refused a partial refund and asserted that I should have called the “night porter” at 11 pm when I discovered the problem and was standing naked in the shower recess. Very poor value, even if the shower had worked.
Comfortable hotel, outside Inverness in the village of Dingwall. Good restaurant. Nice room.
Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms dated but very clean. Broken shower and were moved rooms with an upgrade to a modern Studio. Unfortunately, electric shower was also broken.
Shower was not functional. Had to wash hair in the bathtub. No view.
Had a good stay but breakfast wasn't worth 18 pound ahead
We enjoyed a lovely stay. Very comfortable. Thank you
Check-in was excellent and friendly. It is an old building in need of an upgrade but at such a low room price I felt that that was taken into consideration. My only complaints about the room were that it was very cold due to not having the heating on. The room took a good 5 hours to heat up. The other downside was the toilet fan that screeched very loudly but that was only for a short period of time. The only other slight let down was one item on my breakfast order was missed and I felt the £13.50 cost for breakfast was somewhat excessive. That aside, for the room price all was good.
Weekend away
Lovely hotel and service was fab. Food in restaurant was delicious!
Very friendly staff.
Good hotel with pub and restaurant.
TLC required to make this a really nice hotel
Evening meals at hotel excellent ,staff at hotel excellent, bad stains on carpet, issue with heating on during evening when informed reception They said heating on I mentioned pipe to radiator was that hot I couldn't keep my hand on when I came back later that day window was kept open with a block of wood as stash to window was broken and 2 electric fans left on to cool room down overall hotel requires some TLC and this would be a lovely place to stop
Would not stay again
It was no more than a stop over on my trip to better locations and accommodations. Hotel needs updating and upgrading.
Friendly staff, hotel situated in middle of dingwall, better value than most hotels in the vicinity
We only stayed one night. The walls are thin and can hear the neighbours. That aside we had NO hot water which we discovered after 8pm when it’s not staffed and in the morning although they advertise they have staff by 7am nobody was there. I called later and was brushed off with half an apology and that they would get maintenance onto it. Pretty poor really.
Family celebration visit to Dingwall
Booked a single room for one night for a birthday celebration. Arrived early and was allowed to check in. The host carried my cases to the room. The room and ensuite was clean and comfortable and had everything I needed. A minor issue was the shower was a bit temperamental. Reported to the staff who dealt with it. Breakfast was extra and I opted for the full Scottish which was freshly prepared and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would be happy to stay here in the future.
Good hotel
I loved the fact the Staff could not do enough for you, very pleasant stay and would definitely go back again. lovely friendly atmosphere. Vic Paulino
A two day stay while traveling through town
The front desk lady was very helpful and kind. She helps us travel through town. An added bonus that she speaks Spanish. Hotel is conveniently located near shops, restaurants, and transportation. It is important for travelers to know this hotel is very far from town when using public transportation. By car definitely a place to consider.
On this visit got a family room which had a king and single bed. This made moving around difficult due to limited passage between beds. There was no milk in the brew making kit. The shower gel was empty. The curtains did not fully cover the windows meaning the late sunlight shone through. Again a miss max of room furniture. The bathroom is modern and reasonably well fitted out though the floor was titled. Only stay here because Inverness properties have increased their prices to excessive levels.
The room was very hot as for some reason the heating pipes are exposed in the room. Window broken kept it open with a piece of wood. Shower doesn’t work either!!!!
Helpful staff good food
Comfortable and good value for money, other residents can find themselves playing second fiddle to members of touring parties at breakfast and supper-which is OK if you’ve been warned but at breakfast we weren’t.
Taking advantage
The room was so heavily cleaned with a strong cleaner I had headaches all night, it smelt horrible, even having the windows open for hours did not help. The fridge was closed but turned off, so it smelt when I went to use it. The place is very very tired and not worth the amount asked per night. Another highlands hotel taking advantage of the season and offering very little in return
Very central. Room was very small.
The hotel is centrally situated and good value for money. The staff were all friendly and helpful
Miss Irene Donaldson
I had good time staying at this hotel the room was clean and tidy and cosy Dingwall was quiet and peaceful no load music or trouble Breakfast was good in the Morning
Positives - superb breakfast, located near to Ross County FC Negatives - decor in bedroom, broken toilet seat, shower that was less powerful than a watering can, no hot water on 2nd morning
As a superior double the only extras were a coffee machine and twin shower/sink bathroom. Room was directly above front door which slammed every time. No windows to open for fresh air. Only patio doors which were locked shut. (Room 101)
Clean and tidy and staff amazing
The staff were very helpful, cheerful and accommodating. The rooms were well-kept and clean.
Amazing stay
Our stay was amazing, rooms were clean and comfortable, host extremely friendly. The breakfast was incredible, we felt very welcome, and had a wonderful conversation with the host. We would highly recommend this place!
Weekend Break
We enjoyed our stay . Staff helpful and friendly. Room clean and comfortable. A problem with shower. Very central.
Skøn service, stemningsfuldt og historisk hotel. Da vi skulle blive en uge, flyttede de os på et større værelse uden beregning. Maden er fin til prisen og et utrolig hjælpsomt personale.
Good location. Helpful and friendly staff
