Finding parking was difficult at times. No ice buckets. However room was great and clean. Easy to check in and out. Would stay again.
We loved this property! My partner said “from now on, you're booking our stays” 💕 thank you!
Very nice old building. It was a much finer stay than we experienced the following evening at a Hilton double tree.
Hip, fun and easy, great location!
Small rooms, but not tiny. Good enough for our purposes. No real bells and whistles, but the staff was amazing. There's no "front desk", but there was a very helpful staff member on site providing whatever was needed. It's by no means a luxury resort, but it was clean, the rooms were updated, and the area was safe with a number of good options to eat and drink. We normally stay downtown when visiting Pittsburgh, but couldn't find a room with the Cowboys in town. We were pleasantly surprised at how good this hotel was.
Great hotel.
Great self check in hotel.
Convenience 10/10
The room was labeled as a queen size room, but the bed felt smaller than that. The bathroom didn’t have a fan, which would have been nice. The concierge floor was stocked with water, towels, earplugs, toothbrush/toothpaste. The check in and check out was seamless and easy to figure out. Would stay again!
Na
Such a cool place to stay. Love the design details of the renovated YMCA rooms. Easy contactless check-in and cool neighborhood.
All went well. The property is clean and well taken care of. The area around the hotel is a little loud on the weekend but not bad. Communication is very good and the online check in/out was seemless.
Great hotel, great location. Our conseirge Caroline was awesome. So informative and gave great recommendations.
Caroline, the concierge on duty when we arrived, is phenomenal! She was engaging, funny, and extremely helpful. The room was as expected with easy access to the building and our room. We had our trepidations about the parking situation and it turned out to be a non-issue. We also had our concerns about the virtual front desk and boutique / niche feel for the hotel. This is not the hotel for everyone. We knew what we were reserving and knew about the low beds. This is not a negative criticism of the beds. The bed and mattress were great. Rather, after a good night’s sleep after an active day, my 59 year old knees didn’t like pushing me up from such a low height. That’s on me. I’ll be looking for the typical bed frame, box spring, and mattress offerings going forward. Final thought, read the instructions when you receive them. Ask a bunch of questions to prepare yourself. We did and our stay went very smoothly! Enjoy!
Parking is not available on site. Have to walk through an alley which is rather ominous at night. Room was very clean with a unique design. Never saw an employee on site.
Now spot
The property is not a real hotel, just an expensive guest house. The Virtual Front Desk is a joke. There is no maid service, no parking, no temporary storage, no food, no bar. The coffee maker is terrible, the TV has very few channels, no stores nearby, and getting any help is a long phone call to India.
Maverick Kasa is a formula where no services are provided. The room and the building are really great but there nobody around from the management with whom you can talk. Nobody cleaning the room, nobody offering help for a cab, or advising on restaurants etc.. Said so , rooms are really nice and if you think you can cope with this formula it is really value for money
Great property
The building is stately and classic. The hotel rooms are very uniquely designed. High ceiling, large window, seating area, and vicinity to a landmark church gave us a very interesting experience.
The checkin and checkout process really needs a person or a key pad that is more reliable. We almost weren’t able to access the building when we returned after being out and we would have been completely stuck if people didn’t let us in while they were leaving.
Older building that has been updated. Rooms are cheerful but lighting could be better. Occasional musty smell but air conditioning helped.
Very clean and quiet. There is a $250 security deposit required and it’s hard to cast to the tv. Great mattress! Very, very quiet building.
No room key to lose. Very quiet hotel. Beds were super comfortable. Cold AC!
I love the beauty and old architecture character of the building, the check in and out technology was pretty cool. Front desk lady was very helpful and professional. The room was very clean and we love the simplicity of the old/modern decor. My only concern is that the windows need curtains between the dark blinds, so you can enjoy the natural lighting of the room and people can't see you from outside, because the windows are gigantic, they need more accessible parking, a bar (with a dining area), the lobby has a lot of potential, it's as nice as it is, but with a little effort it can be better. Other than that, we will be returning to the Maverick by Kasa at the Burgh/. Our stay was LOVELY<3
The ease of the virtual check-in process made the whole process very easy. Very quiet and safe place. Room was tasteful and adequately furnished.
Beware of very hard beds!
HARD BEDS, not firm. HARD. The mattresses are 6-7 inches of incompressible material, on top of solid wood. I stayed 3 nights, in town on business. I did not get one night of good sleep. After the first night, I texted the unseen staff asking if they had any softer mattresses. They did not, and suggested that I pile up blankets to make it softer. (Yes, that's just the way I like to sleep on an August night. ) I resorted to Advil PM, which made me groggy the following day and made work and driving home difficult. The location is nice, the room very clean and quiet, but I still would have left after the first night, if I could have afforded to.
Room 518 corner room with huge windows on 2 sides, gorgeous views of the church. Huge room! Great value for the money! Clean, new, has all the ammenities and little touches that make it special. Finally a hotel room with hooks for towels and clothes. My room had 22 hooks!! Loved everything about this place.
We had a wonder night stay. We went into Pittsburgh to catch a candlelight Adele tribute, have dinner at Fish not foul and just relax. The Maverick was a neat place to stay, and interesting being a converted YMCA. Navigating the TV took a minute and the water pressure was very low but our room was nice and we had a great stay.
This is a gorgeously restored 115 year old YMCA with original architecture, intricate detail and comfortable and well appointed rooms. With the addition of a concierge on duty, the hotel has a personal touch as well as an efficient online presence. The area is full of great food, history and vibrant culture.
Second time at this Kasa location. Cool old building with so many interesting design features. The bed and pillows are so comfortable (we like a firm mattress) and I love the window seat in the room. Great location with lots to walk to. Street parking is easy (always got a spot right in front). It is metered during the day but not at night. Put the app on your phone and you can pay without leaving your bed in the morning! Some minor stuff -- AC was a bit noisy and we had a hard time finding a good temperature (same with the shower -- the water was either too hot or too cold). There is also a Direct TV connector with a really bright blue light that was annoyingly bright at night. Pretty minor annoyances for what is a really nice place to stay. Would go back again.
Very clean friendly staff and really liked the virtual concierge
Excellent as always.
Great place to stay!
Really fun hotel! Very convenient location. Carolyn at the front desk was very welcoming, helpful and friendly.
I loved our stay! Extremely clean! I will be back !
Great place. Will be even better when they get the tech worked out. For some reason they ask for biometric measurements of guests without a n assurance of deletion after our stay. Additionally when there’s any technical glitch getting it worked out is not easy to do. That said, the staff was wonderful and incredibly helpful.
Our stay at the Maverick by Kasa exceeded expectations. The virtual check in and check out was smooth, the room was spacious and fashionable. The hotel was conveniently located and very reasonable price wise. The only downside was the surrounding area which felt a little isolated. We will stay again the next time we’re in town.
Everyone was great. My room was great. If anything, it takes a long time for water to get hot. LOVED the Maverick!
This property was an old YMCA. It’s a beautiful property and the rooms had a cool 1930’s vibe. The location is great and within walkable distance to many restaurants. The only thing I didn’t like was that the bed abutted one wall so access to that side was very awkward and difficult if you had to get up in the middle of the night. We were lucky and got on street parking but there is a parking lot behind the hotel.
Beautiful location
Very clean and welcoming space, well situated for bars and restaurants. The building has a lot of history, and they've restored the gym and ballroom of the old YMCA as event spaces.
The room is fantastic and clean! It's quiet and safe with lots of restaurant options surrounding it. However, there should be a parking waiver worked out for guests. Just so that the guest isn't always having to be concerned with parking. And, the staff should remind guests immediately that there is ice and towels etc on the premises.
Wonderful, unique
One of the nicest places we've ever stayed! Huge sunny windows, chic decor, a comfy window seat, super clean, good coffee maker and coffee choices. Really good directions to get into room. Super location. So nice to stay in a room that is not brown and generic.
The mini fridge did not work.
my stay was Fabulous and I’ll definitely book again
Everything is good except the cover pot didn’t work and the bed was hard and the water pressure sucked
Great stay, loved it
Had a great stay! Nice room, pleasantly priced, and easy street parking (we did check in earlier in the afternoon though). Thanks!
Very nice stay for a business trip. No staff is around which makes it perfect for introverts and people who want privacy.
I liked that I never had to deal with a receptionist but now i am forced to engage in discussions in the early morning when im leaving for work and again when i return from work. I also saw a roach crawling along the panel that’s attached to the bed. One of the wash cloths in the bathroom had a weird brown stain when i took it up to use. It’s supposed to be a clean towel. The standards is slipping here
Feels like a home away from home. Beautiful decor, gorgeous bathroom. Little intimate touches here and there.
No water pressure in shower , could not connect my phone to tv so it was a very boring evening and I may have missed that there was no tv in room but I personally would not stay again.
Recovery room
I used this spot as a recovery haven after ambulatory surgery . It was great. It had enough room for my kids to stop over! It was clean and stylish.
The parking was not ideal. The room was clean and nice. The bed was firm.
We loved the room. It was very clean and modern. We would definitely stay here again. We parked in a parking lot right near the hotel.
It was easy to get in and out. Did see housekeeping staff and they were equally kind and friendly.
Felt more like an apartment than a hotel stay. Enjoyed that feel. Liked the keyless, human less entrance and departure. I would def stay again
The historic architect remains, nice sleek decor design nice staff.
Great place, clean, quiet and very affordable. It was a nice place to stay
Great and easy stay. Proximate to a bunch of great coffee and dining options.
The Maverick by Kasa, a must stay!
The Maverick by Kasa exceeded our expectations during our one night stay. The building and room itself is very clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the church across the street. The virtual check in was super easy to navigate and the staff on site was very friendly and helpful with recommendations and accommodations. The location is PERFECT, walkable to so many restaurants and cute cafes. Great, affordable options for parking right out front. We have found our go-to hotel for the next time we return to Pittsburgh. Highly recommend!
Beautifully designed rooms. Nice welcoming amenities.
No complain at all
Clean. Comfortable. But no hot water. Ended up having to shower in almost cold water. I was told this was because so many other units were trying to use hot water at the same time. Not an acceptable excuse after paying $200 per night.
Cool space!
Very clean and very easy instructions for self check in
shower was not running hot water. no parking near property
Loved the old Y! Nicely redone.
Excellent place to stay in Pittsburgh
Really beautiful, clean space. Bed was not super comfortable, but otherwise, the space was very comfortable. Great location, very walkable.
The staff was super helpful
short stay
Easy check in. Nice space. We never saw a staff person, but that wasn’t a problem luckily. The only issue was the lack of hot water which only ever got luke warm.
Large room. Very clean and quiet. Good cafe nearby.
The best!
This is a great hotel, except for the mini-burning man rave that goes on Saturday nights. No one mentioned this when I booked the hotel. I received a text on the second day of my stay letting me know that there would be a "music event" that night lasting until 2am. It is not an exaggeration to say that the entire building was shaking from the sub-woofer. I had to work early Sunday morning, so to say that I was pissed is an understatement. If I had known in advance that this kind of stuff goes on in the building, I would have stayed elsewhere. BEFORE BOOKING MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO SCHEDULED RAVES - unless you want to attend yourself.
Absolute horrible experience
If I could give it -10 I would…I’m not that guy that writes reviews unless they are positive but this is the exception. First, virtual check in…I’m ok with it because it was such a bad experience if I saw someone in person I would have lost my mind. Second, no cable TV in the room, steam/cast it from your phone…ok again. Not the end of the world but for almost $200 a night maybe have cable lol. Now for the great part…I checked in around 7:00, I left and went to Primant Bros right up the street to eat and watch the NCAA wrestling tourney. I get a text from this company KASA sometime after 9:00 telling me that there is live music in the hotel on the first floor until 2:00AM. Ok again not a huge deal…WELL I WAS WRONG. It was an EDM dance party. My room was literally vibrating till 2:00AM. Just when I thought it was over they played one more song, so the torture ended at around 2:07AM. Then all the patrons decided to hang out in the parking lot, right under my window till at least 2:30AM. I should have read the reviews because someone else had the same experience a little over a week ago. Texting back and forth with either a BOT or live person, they claimed the didn’t know until last minute that this was going on. THAT WAS A LIE!! On the text they sent around 9:00 it had a link to their website where they were promoting it!!! Never, never, never again!!! Buyer beware…DO NOT AT THIS PLACE!!!
We loved it ! Super cute rooms
Charged for damage I didn't cause
My daughter and I enjoyed our stay at the Maverick on March 15-17, 2024. I'm leaving 1 star because I was charged $150 to replace a mini fridge that they claim was burned out by liquid from the coffee machine on top of the fridge overflowing and dripping down. I did make 1 cup of coffee, which did overflow, but it was a small amount, and I cleaned it up immediately. Nothing spilled down the sides of the fridge. When I disputed the charge, they refused to remove it. Other reviews mention similar experiences. Beware.
I had a great stay at "The Maverick". The studio room was absolutely gorgeous (!!!) Beautifully decorated, views of the church/cathedral and a big, comfy bed. The fridge and coffee machines were great additions. A knife/fork/plate might have been handy as one small suggestion. All the self/automated check ins and and access worked perfectly; I was able to arrange late check out seamlessly, albeit with a fee to pay. The "Kasa" team were easily reachable both times I called (regarding early check-in and late check-out!) Thanks and would stay again!!!
The uniqueness of the room theme. Loved it
Clean and quick
Very nice, never saw a real person.
Creepy AI Bot hotel
The virtual check in process was a MESS!!! Because we made two reservations under one account they couldn’t seem to separate the two names. After 20 minutes we figured out one room but the second room would not process the ID check, it took and hour and a half of a virtual bot, texts and finally one human to get some progress and at least find out the second room number. We finally had to leave the hotel due to events we came to the area for. And it wasn’t until almost 3 hours after we started the check in process they fixed the problem. The rooms are cool, but the hotel is creepy as hell with no people and all the dark colors. Never again.
Great location and very cozy and clean!
The bed was so comfy and the room was so spacious and beautiful! We got the room with the bathtub and we really enjoyed the bath! It was a wonderful stay, and throughout the experience Kasa (the hotels virtual check in / front desk) was checking in regularly. I did not have any issues, but I got the impression if I did they would have been prompt to answer! I would stay again!
DONT BOOK THIS HOTEL! EVER
HOTELS.COM NEEDS TO DROP THE MAVERICK FROM ITS WEBSITE. We booked 2 rooms for 2 friends visiting Pittsburgh from Europe. We arrived to the hotel to find there were no workers. It was a virtual check-in that did not work. When we could not get into the hotel, we were told one of the rooms was cancelled. The hotel sent an email notifying us of the cancellation. No such email was sent. We were then told one of the rooms was unavailable because of a maintenance issue. When we finally reached a person, she told us we had only 1 room reserved. I read her the Hotels.com reservation information. She then said that was wrong, she could not help me, they had no rooms and hung up on me.
Beautiful view from the room of the old church across the street! Lovely property.
Property was clean and quiet--basic and functional, no frills. Would have liked having some TV options not tied to subscription services.
Stay away if you want to sleep! Property is an all hours EDM dance hall pretending to be a hotel to trap poor souls. Entire building vibrates long into the night as you lay awake regretting every decision you ever made in life. Stay far far away
Cool decor in the rooms. Good price.
Very clean property.
We love staying here. Very safe and dependable
It was great very cute room. Loved it. very clean. Only weird thing was a foreign sock in the bed.
Lovely room. Bar not open.
Everything was really nice
We had a fantastic stay at the Maverick! Check in was flawless, they have a great digital front desk that explains every detail. Because our stay was over a weekend, we managed to get free street parking right out front which was very convenient ( keep in mind you'd have to pay during the week). The room was huge, clean and comfortable! It had more than we had expected and we wished we could have stayed longer.
Very convenient for those who do not ever really utilize guest customer service when staying in hotels. The virtual assistant responded instantly when we needed it though, so I think if there is an issue there is someone to help. It was nice to just go right to the room without having to chat with anyone and the hotel bar looked nice. The room was clean and cutely decorated. The only thing is I hate barn doors on bathrooms, there is a huge gap in the door no matter what, so if you've got to go #2, whoever else is in the room will be very aware that you are. Also, the bed was not comfortable, it felt like sleeping on a plank, and the pillows were basically air. The blackout curtains did come in handy since the windows are huge.
Beautiful view
No face to face contact with anyone. Sparce furnishings in room, two cheap plastic chairs and a small round table. The bed basically sits at almost floor level and is much too soft. The bed pillows are HUGE but also much to soft, offering no support. At least there is a good coffee maker.
I really enjoyed the bar staff. Very friendly and accommidating. They even ordered food for me and went to pick it up. I'll definitely book a room there again!
Quirky Hotel Near the Action
This was a quirky hotel that occupies a former YMCA. It is located across the street from a beautiful cathedral and is near robust areas of shopping/dining. There is no front desk or on-site guest services. Instead, you coordinate checking in/out, etc. via text. Response times were fine. The room was narrow but comfortable. The bed was low to the floor, and one side was tight to the adjoining wall. The lower floors are used for community events. During our stay, the lobby bar was closed. There is no on-site parking, but there are options within 1/2 mile. The TV is not connected to cable/satellite but does support streaming. The in-room WiFi was good.
We picked this property due to past reviews and they were spot on. It was a little smaller than pictures showed but it was plenty of space for just two people. We were not in the room very long except to sleep. The location was great as far as being able to walk to places to eat or if you need to shop. A Target and Walgreens were in walking distance. We did not rent a car so Ubered everywhere. I'm not sure I would do that again as it became very pricey but we had never been to Pittsburgh and were unsure of parking. We went to an NFL Football game and the uber ride was over $60 there and $80 coming home alone. But it still was convenient being dropped off where you were going. Pittsburgh is a beautiful city and we had a great time! next time we will stay longer and rent a car so we can see more!
The concept of a remotely managed hotel with no local staff seems to work, until something goes wrong in the building and they start sending threatening messages to all guests at the same time. There was a fire alarm during our stay due to construction works on one of the floors and we got noise sensor warnings with the threat of terminating our stay ad $500 fines...
First time staying at a property with a virtual check in. It went better then I expected and the response to text was prompt. Loved this hotel, the room was specious and felt like a studio apartment. Close to the downtown area and pitt campus which is where all our events were. Already started telling all our friends about this place. 💛💛💛💛💛
I love the virtual check-in process
We were visiting Pittsburgh and decided to stay at this hotel, close to the University of Pittsburgh. I loved the location and the virtual check in. The virtual staff was very responsive to our needs and made sure we had everything we needed for the weekend. I love the refurbishing of the space and can tell that more work is on the way; this place will have a nice vibe about it. My only concern was the quality of the bed, I found it hard and difficult to sleep on. Outside of that, I do believe they can easily modify that. Certainly would be willing to stay here again.
This was a perfect place to stay while I was at a conference at Carnegie-Mellon. I loved the character of the building. I was worried because there wasn’t an attendant onsite but that was not an issue at all. Check in was a breeze. I would stay here again.
