Gorgeous property inside out. Make sure to join the guided trail in the morning - you will learn a lot. Most of the service was stellar - breakfast buffet had a good offering but staff seems overwhelmed. I asked for an egg twice and it still didn't arrive by the time i finished my meal. A number of items were running out before 9.30am and not refilled.

Lalu is a beautiful n tranquil resort. The staff are all very attentive. The view is spectacular. Definitely worth a visit.

The Lalu is clearly a top notch hotel and the facilities and staff are excellent. A few specific positives - Marshall and Allen both went above and beyond in terms of their service. The Japanese restaurant meal was top notch. The Spa was very good. Being able to walk out and around the lake was great, as well as the boat trip across to the pagoda. A few suggestions for improvement - the pool area got very noisy with lots of children shrieking, so some thought on how to balance this would make sense. We enjoyed the Chinese Restaurant food however the ambience is very basic - a big white room in effect.

Great hotel with wonderful view of the lake. During check-in, we didnt even need to queue. Just chill and enjoy the snacks & tea provided by the hotel & wait for the hotel to check you in. Staff were so attentive & because we had a stroller, we just needed to call the recept in the morning and they will send someone up to your room and personally bring you through a ramp access to the breakfast location. Travelled with a baby and the hotel made the stay for our baby very convenient and comfortable. Baby sterilizer is also provided in the room which not many hotel does so I'm very impressed! 1 night is definitely not enough!

When I went to Sun Moon Lake in Nov 2023, the hotel was fully booked. When I returned there in April 2024, I made it a point to stay at the Lalu, and it did not disappoint me. The view from the property is amazing. The room is a suite and very spacious with a balcony. The room is equipped with everything. It was raining the day I stayed there. And it gave me a different feel when the lake was sunny, I just relaxed at the balcony, sipping my cup of tea and enjoyed the ever-changing scenery of the lake with the clouds passing by. The staff were very friendly, and the service was very personal. After check-in, a staff will accompany you to the room and gave a detailed explanation. And they would greet you by your name when you passed by the reception area. You felt welcomed there. The breakfast buffet had a lot of varieties to choose from and tasted great. The dinner from the Chinese restaurant and the Oriental Brasseries was a little below my expectation but was still acceptable. The hotel provided free shuttle service to and from the bus station and made it very convenient to use public transportation to get there. I enjoyed my stay there very much and will return there some day.

Beautiful hotel on Sun Moon Lake with excellent staff. Hotel overall aesthetically is wonderful but it shows some wear and tear and could use a refresh in some parts. Overall the exceptional staff, access to dining (the View restaurant and the Japanese restaurant for guests only) and the pool and tea areas were very enjoyable. The lake itself is quiet and the Lalu hotel provides for a relaxing setting. All these helped us to enjoy our stay and overlook the minor repairs we thought the hotel needed. You also have direct access to the walking trails and you can also walk about 5-10 minutes to the dock to enjoy a boat ride to the temples and gondola. Recommend asking the hotel for transportation from the Taichung train station as well if traveling from Taipei or elsewhere- very helpful.

Best service and stunning view

From the moment you step into the hotel, you can feel the high-quality service of the staff. The hotel has luxurious design creates a quiet, elegant and relaxing atmospheres. Watching the Sun Moon Lake through from balcony is the most relaxing and beautiful thing ever. Will definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous hotel and location

The hotel room was large with a beautiful sitting area and balcony. The view of the lake is 10/10. We had two outstanding dinners in the Japanese restaurant. Everything was perfect except for our experience at breakfast. On both mornings, the hostess tried to seat us in the corner at the worse table in the restaurant. Many other tables with views were open. I had to refuse to sit down before she offered me another table, and this one was also in the far back of the restaurant. We wondered if the poor seating options could be linked to our being the only Westerners in the hotel.

The Lalu typifies a high-quality hotel experience. Exceptional location and surroundings, facilities, amenities, and staff. While one can always come up with criticisms of any hotel experience, the Lalu made that far more difficult. My biggest complaint is that they were booked when I asked to extend my stay--which is certainly a compliment within a criticism.

Can’t want to come back!

Amazing property with gorgeous views, attentive staff, and the rooms are beautiful. Only bummer was having to wear a swimming cap when swimming in the infinity pool.

We had a lovely stay at the Lalu. The property is absolutely beautiful and the staff is impeccably service-oriented. It was the perfect place to stay at Sun Moon Lake for respite and taking in the beauty of the area.

Everything was great except for the airconditioner which was set to 24 degrees and cannot be adjusted. The room was so hot and they provided a portable air cooler, but in spite of that it was very hot. Was awaken earlier than usual due to the heat. Aside from that everything was superb!

Service is the best

Amazing property with the best view of Sun Moon Lake. Alongside the view, is the spectacular service of all the staff. Highly recommended if you are to visit the area. For children, they may set up an extra bed and crib. They also provide a sterilizer for bottles, baby bath tub and toiletries for babies. I look forward to another stay here in the future.

stunning architecture and very friendly service. rooms at first sight have incredible design and are very spacious. unfortunately at closer look the entire hotel feels run down and has seen better days. ceilings are dirty with mold, bathroom weatherstrip is full of mold, fixtures are not well kept. management needs to spend some resources and good craftsmanship keeping the place up

This is a very very nice property sitting on the hill overlooking the beautiful Sun Moon Lake, it gives a very calm relaxing and zen vibe. Service was excellent, staff was courteous, patient and helpful! The spa and massage is above and beyond, nice tranquil facilities with plunge pools, sauna, finished by nice massages and thoughtful service. The suite is very nicely decorated and spacious and clean. The hotel provides daily local fresh fruits as well! You literally feel like you are in a retreat, you can sign up for free yoga classes as well! Love the property the staff and the experience! Unmatched!

LaLu is a very prestigious hotel! The staff are very attentive and hands on for service requests. The dining options are very limited and what they offer are expensive and not too much choice. Around the immediate hotel area don’t have much food choices either! The hotel ground has lots of inserts especially mosquitos make sure you have bug spray! Overall LaLu is a well maintained old style hotel!

For the listed price, I would have to say we originally thought it was very steep, but with the hotel service and the breathtaking view, I would say every penny was extremely well-spent. I noticed several people noted that the hotel was relatively out of date, but nothing is in disrepair, albeit perhaps a bit old. Even then, you could tell the furniture and amenities were top-notch during its prime. Honestly, for what you pay, it's completely worth it. Compared to similarly priced rooms such as the W Hotel in Taipei, the service was far better, the room almost double in size, and not to mention the incredible view. Definitely worth the price and a visit!

Most disappointed experience with Hotel.com

I wrote to Hotel.com to cancel my booking with full refund due the sudden change of policy of Taiwan government to all visitors from Hong Kong that would be required to have 14-day quarantine upon arrival. Thus policy only came two days before my suppose check-in time with the hotel. I contact the hotel direct but they said I should deal with it with Hotel.com. As at todate, I receive no reply from Hotel.com. As a Gold Member, I am extremely disappointed by time. I won’t use Hotel.com again.

Endearing

The manager left us a small gift since it is the Christmas season and we are away from our families. That touch was quite endearing.

Beautiful property with exceptional service (the staff was incredible), great views (best location around Sun Moon Lake based on our tour around the lake) and an amazing infinity pool that overlooks the lake. The property was private and relaxing, and our room was big and comfortable (not modern but lots of historical charm). Our room also had a nice bonus patio with lake views. We had a wonderful stay and would return!

my top Hotel

This was the top hotel I have ever stayed with for over all experience. if you want a true get away. I have stayed all over the world, Paris, Punta Cana, Cancun, all over North America and Asia. This is a must go again 1 in 1,000 places I have stayed. Go relax and enjoy the peace, beautiful views and amazing staff. My one thing to change would be the Gym. it was adequate and better than average, just not amazing like everything else.

Beautiful Hotel on Sun Moon Lake

From the moment you step out of your car, and begin to enter The Lalu, the magnificent ambiance fills all of your senses! The views are incredible. Staff is fantastic and immediately makes you feel welcomed and special. Then there is the room, we stayed in a lake view suite... luxurious and soothing to the eyes and body! I love The Lalu. A must for anyone traveling to Sun Moon Lake.

Lovely

The Lalu is a fantastic property with well designed rooms and breathtaking views. The staff were fantastic, especially the Maitre D in the Chinese Restaurant who was super attentive and knowledgable. Our only issue is that the hotel was too cold! Especially when we went to the Spa and the sauna/shower room was basically unusable it was so cold - the big windows were wide open when it was 6 degrees C outside. It was hard to understand.

Amazing hotel with breath-taking views. Minimalist design with architectural details that weaves seemlessly with the natural surroundings of Sun Moon Lake and Lalu. Great service throughout our stay with lots of attention to details. Shuttle services provided. Restaurant food only okay and expensive for what you get. Overall unforgettable and we even extended our stay an extra night!

Great services, specious room and amazing views

Awesome warm welcome drinks from the hotel. Love the specious room, with full amenities and functions, amazing view from the room!! Enjoy the whole atmosphere there! And, there's a complimentary shuttle to/from Shuishe Visitor Center/hotel which ease travelling for hotel's customers, I appreciate.

Perfect location for anniversary and honeymoon

We enjoyed two nights at the magical Sun Moon Lake. It’s a beautiful place to be at for a couple’s getaways! The view of the lake from the hotel room is mesmerizing! It view is ever changing throughout the day as the sun comes out. You can walk or try the world’s best bike path around the lake. The hotel’s breakfast and dinner are great, especially the “European” style set menu - surprisingly good! Hotel’s Library has a good collection of books and some DVDs. The staff are all super friendly and helpful.

Always book the higher floors

2 night stay on Level 7. Pay the extra for the higher levels; you'll understand why when you see the view. Great stay. Staff very helpful and enthusiastic. Breakfast great. Also try the water yoga in the pool in the morning. Really awesome. I'd live here if I could.

Beautiful & elegant

This hotel has the most beautiful view of Sun Moon Lake. In the morning the reflection of the surrounding mountain range peaking thru the mist is breath-taking. The facility is outstanding, as is the staff. The atmosphere is laid back and soothing, the spa is fabulous, & the pool picture perfect. The hotel is fabulous for adults, although ok for families, not sure there is much to recommend for children.

Luxurious architectural gem above Sun Moon Lake

Beautifully designed hotel with amazing views of Sun Moon Lake. Excellent food in both restaurants. Terrific spa. The rating of '4' for cleanliness was to do with the floor of our room being initially dusty when we arrived. However, the staff cleaned it immediately and to our satisfaction, and the rest of the stay was terrific.

Rooms are stunningly appointed and include gorgeous floral arrangements. View of the lake is incredible and easy access to the hanbi trail is a huge plus making a casual lake side stroll a regular occurrence.

Not up to par with my expectations

I saw the Lalu posted on Instagram and I immediately knew I had to stay there. I must say that I was a bit disappointed with my stay. I can see how this hotel is highly attractive for local clientelle, but it fell short of my expecations for an international 5 star hotel. The room design and amenities are amazing-- super zen and top notch. This was exactly what I was looking for. Where the hotel fell a bit short was the pool (not very clean), spa (therapists laughed throughout my treatment which made me feel uncomfortable), and food (I was looking for a mini escape from Shanghai, so I really did not want Chinese food. I am vegetarian and was open to both the Japanese and Western restaurants, but there were very few options for me. The only thing I really enjoyed was my rose latte. Otherwise, the food was sub par). In addition, service at the lobby bar and pool was very slow. And one final note, I was very surprised by the number of tour boats ciricling outside the hotel with very loud tour guides on megaphones. I could hear this from my room and at the pool...not cool! Overall, the hotel design is nice, but the overall experience is not worth the money...

For travelers with a sense of architectural taste

Beware of mosquitoes! Other than that 5 stars with guest service best in class! Chinese dinner was really good, again beware of mosquitoes. Third floor view was amazing, request ##07 to get the corner unit suite. Do enjoy the welcome tea and make sure to wander around and soak in the timeless modern architecture.

The Lalu

The Lalu lives up to its reputation and you have to try it once in a lifetime. I was lucky enough to stay in the VIP building. Small things that can be improved on or be aware of: swimming pool water is supposed to be heated but still too cold to swim in. Bath in the room had no massage jets. Lots of mozzies so couldn't keep balcony door open. Went to the oriental restaurant at night and food was honestly awful. Avoid the pasta, red wine was chilled rather than room temperature. Breakfast was awesome though.

The only thing about this hotel that doesn't deserve a five star is that it's a bit dated. Most importantly, it needs cosmectic makeover like fresh coat of paint. The spa needs to offer more services.

In one word: dream-like.Incredibly nice room (modern design), comfortable bathtub, heavenly bed, luxurious balcony... just about everything. Lobby lounge, bar, tea house, pool, library... all other spots in the hotel were also fantastic.We wanted to stay longer.

I booked this hotel as a present to my boyfriend who's swedish and first time been to Asia. The hotel is 10mins walking distance to the pier which connect to other tourist attractions, and there's free van pick up service also every time if you needed to go from the hotel. The hotel staff made me and my boyfriend feel very welcomed, especially this is his first visit to Taiwan, this definitely made a very good impression.

フロントに日本語を話せるスタッフが数人いるのでとても助かりました。他のスタッフも親切です。電動自転車で転倒して救急病院に行きましたがその際も色々と助けていただきました。 親身になって接して下さるので、大変心強く感謝しています。 スパの技術も素晴らしいです。鉄板焼きも美味しかったです。

たたなづく山並みと日月潭の眺望が素晴らしいホテルでした。予約段階からきめ細やかな対応で、レストランの予約や送迎車の提案、又希望時間帯での予約が叶わない時の代替案やスパの問合せについても迅速に対応して貰えました。 プールつきヴィラはプライバシーが担保されたランドスケープ、プルメリアがそこはかとなく香るアウトサイドリビングのデイベッドでは、ゆっくりと過ごせました。プールは掛け流し、部屋も大変清潔で気持ちが良かったです。何よりホテルマンが親切です。

ホテル全体が素敵です！ 中華レストランが凄く美味しかったです。 朝食も品数が多く豪華で大満足！

We stayed at a private pool villa for one night. Architecture was impressive. But surprisingly there was a water leak in the bath tab and we could not fill the water. And also the staff was saying they were coming to put the candle light to our room but they didn’t come. I must say that the operation of the hotel wasn’t perfect. But I enjoyed the experience of the space so much. I want to stay again.
