The parking was expensive. Other than that, amazing!
Good
This hotel is under Reno till Dec 2024 . Not mentioned when I booked on hotel.com Noisy they turn the water off even flush water during the day no one told us at check in .. we had extended our stay but left early . We complained and we got a better room .. however there was a leak in the new room so they asked us to move again .. we left . The staff was kind and helpful especially Sara but hotels.com Should do a better job to inform the customer . It’s a beautiful property ina lovely location.. such a shame
Love the location and old style! Very nice!!
Great Stay!
The staff were amazing and helpful. The parking situation was a little inconvenient but we made do. We did have trash in our room from the previous guest. The bar inside of the hotel was great and the staff were incredibly nice!
Historic building with some modern upgrades. As expected, the room was a bit small and bathroom odd with no door. But a near stay near the theatre was a huge bonus.
Was very disappointed with not knowing ahead of time that pool was closed
Wonderful, historical hotel, in a great part of town
I had to be placed in 3 rooms all of which the carpets were filthy room 904, 806 & 505. The complimentary breakfast oatmeal was cold I thought I would get an entire hot meal. The lobby was gorgeous nice & clean but the rooms need to be all upgraded. The website should state that there wasn't a pool available. I will never be back to The Gunter!
Can’t make a fair statement the property was under construction. I loved the location.
Great Staff
Convenient waking distance to river walk and majestic theater.
Great location
50 dollars a day dor parking and they had no cable.
River walk
Awesome location
Last minute trip with friends. The hotel is not bad we like the look and layout and the old touches that it has. The beds were uncomfortable. The room was muggy. The pool was under construction which was a big disappointment this should have been a flag when booking.
I liked how comforting it was
Great stay!
Amazing staff! The rooms are beautiful and very clean. So nice I stayed twice.
Perfect location!! Very kind and helpful staff.
Clean. Great lobby bars. Great location. Everyone was very nice. Always a favorite stay.
One night stay
Stayed at the Gunter for one night, there is no on site parking except for a valet service they offer for $50. Otherwise you must find your own parking. My room was out of conditioner and had very little shampoo. Staff was friendly. Had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs manager seemed overwhelmed but waiter was nice. Overal 3-4 stars.
Beautiful Historical Hotel
Beautiful historical Hotel. Across the street from the Majestic Theater and close to several amazing Restaurants. Walking distance to the River Walk and many other attractions.
Sarah at the front desk was wonderful she made me and my wife’s anniversary stay amazing.
Hmmmmm
Hotel lobby is very nice however the rooms and bathrooms are dated . And water wasn’t hot for showers barely warm almost cool
Sarah was so nice and welcoming, she check us in and recommended restaurants to go to.
River walk and mall
Beautiful hotel
Everything
This hotel is very old and it shows it. Nevertheless, I cannot praise the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff sufficiently. Location is perfect, and it was all in all a very enjoyable stay. My only complaint might be the age of the bathrooms. The cleaning staff does an excellent job of keeping them clean, but they are showing their age, and at this point the bathrooms really just need to be ripped out and replaced with something more modern.
Friendly staff, good service and great location.
This hotel has down grated. You would think being a Marriott chain hotel, the stay would be pleasant. However it was the worst stay for my family. Since the day we checked in our experience was horrible. From a clogged shower to filthy bed sheet's , dust, clogged toilet, and BED BUGS.
We stayed here before in a king room and it was great but this queen room was too small, no space in the bathroom, the a/c would not get cold… over all this was not a good experience
It was a great stay. Except only one elevator was working. Made lines long. People were not happy beside my group. Other than that it was a good stay with very nice employees. The lounge had great music. Just wish it was a bit bigger.
Great Stay
The room is most comfortable. It is quiet as well. Every thing was clean but a glass looked like something was spilt on it. I think this was overlooked every thing else is perfect.Check in is easy and the location is the best when attending the Majestic Theater or the Riverwalk.
Really lovely vintage hotel.
Hotel was great but restaurant in the hotel had bad customer experience.
All good
Loved the feel of the hotel. It is an old building, but with lots of charm. Easy walk to the Riverwalk. I will definitely be staying here again!
Location was great. Also loved the 414 bar.
Loved everything about this hotel staff was amazing at the restaurant and bar in the hotel. Clean rooms comfy beds. 10 out of 10 recommend!!!!
Love this hotel we stay here every trip to San Antonio. It's located close to everything and the staff is always so helpful.
This historic hotel is so well preserved and very comfortable
I feel the hotel was great. The only little complaint I had the bathrooms are very small and with two queen beds in the room was very hard to get in the right side of the queen bed by the window.
Great
Great
Wish the pool area was open.
Great place to stay
We always stay here when we stay in San Antonio, it is in the middle of everything.
The property is dated but nice. Conveniently located. Parking not so great. The room was comfortable but bathrooms again are dated and definitely need updating.
Great location!
Have stayed at this hotel many times in the past. This stay however was very disappointing. Bath tub faucet leaking constantly, the air conditioner at start up was super loud, the pillows were wafer thin. Several of our family members staying here as well all had the same complaint on different floors. Considering the prices they charge totally unacceptable. DO BETTER
No compensation for there being no available pool. Valet parking was expensive. My car got damaged while under valet responsibility. The hallways in the hotel did not smell good at all. Sort of a urine smell? But it also smelled like urine while walking outside the building too. No sign of housekeeping except at 8am while I was still sleeping. For the price of this hotel, they could’ve done better for sure.
Very disappointing
Very disappointing experience across the stay. We expected more from this hotel marketed as an historic gem. Room decor was very dated, and I don’t mean historically. It just looked sad and uninviting. Why did we pay extra for a club room? To have a room with frosted out windows and zero view or to get access to a fridge with some bottled water in the “club room” that the check in person barely mentioned ? Perhaps because we booked on a third party app instead of on the Bon Voy app? We had no one come and refresh the room. We left the room at 10:30am no one had come when we returned at 5:00pm. We had to get towels from a cart in the hallway the body soap and conditioner both ran out the first night. Perhaps during a room refresh that would have been noted. The bed was bouncy and the pillows lumpy. Upon arrival we weren’t even sure if someone else had slept in it. We stay at a lot of hotels we would rank this low on the scale. Just sad.
History about the building is amazing! Very clean, comfortable beds and very close to attractions
The room was adjacent to the street and people were parting, screaming, racing and honking all night up until 3;30am. The shower tub was filthy dirty. I asked to have it cleaned and nothing was done.
Gunter Hotel
We like the location, and the convenience of parking. It’s always clean and our bed was comfortable
DISGUSTING …HORRIBLE.. NOT CLEAN
Horrible .. Disgusting.. Towels were yellow .. Bathroom was dirty ..Personal items from previous guests were left in the room ..I walked right back out & left ..
Lots of easy walkable restaurants and shopping
Gunter Hotel was just average and clean. Excellent location. The reception staff could be more thorough & professional.
The hotel is historic and very clean. It’s very close to all the historical areas. Love it!
Dirty all around in ballet parking
Excelent servise
Everything was fine up until I a storm hit and my room had a major leak from the ceiling. At midnight I had to swap rooms into a room that was different and not as expensive as the room I paid for. I was not offered compensation.
Beautiful lobby area. Rooms very clean, and very spacious! Love that.
My room was very nice, only missing the 2nd glass for drinking, several plastic cups were supplied to compensate. The sound machine was much appreciated for masking the occasional outside noise. Parking attendant was pleasant and helpful with directions. Front desk was competent if not pleasant.
Parking sign outside misleading!
Hotel was Good but $53.00 for parking on the top floor and employees park for free in covered area. If I treated my customers that way I would'nt have any customers.
Good price point for the area!
Pool was close for repairs yet the room fees were the same. There was ongoing noise from renovations, especially early morning. I was not able to rest properly
This hotel still has an old world charm. I would stay here again. It is ideally situated for the Riverwalk and The Alamo.
My husband and I were incredibly disappointed and canceled our stay. We used to come to this hotel often early in our marriage and were excited to revisit. Upon our arrival we found that the accommodations have not been maintained over the years. The first room was so small it would not accommodate our 2 suitcases, the 2nd room still only had 1 nightstand and we had to unplug the lamp to plug in our phones. Shower went from scalding to freezing in seconds without touching the faucet. Then the $50/day for valet on top of the $270/night for a view of HVAC equipment - sad. The Doubletree was far more accommodating. Sorry to see this beautiful facility has not been maintained.
Ok
rooms alittle dated. 2nd day no hot water. Cleaning of room was at end of the day.
The hotel was very clean but my shower didn't have any hot water.
I like the history of the hotel and how close everything was from the hotel.
The location is great and there is a cozy bar on the ground floor. Other than that nothing positive. The facility is old and needs renovation. The breakfast we paid an extra 15$ for, only included coffee, juice, fruits, and muffin.
It was great stay!
Great experience
I would return over all
I loved that you kept the older heritage of the hotel but was still maintained very well. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Would be glad to stay there again.
Last minute availability
Nice room, clean and great service
This hotel is pretty dirty and looks old. For the price, one is better off staying at a cheaper hotel given the quality.
Great stay
My room smelled so bad of cigarettes that I could barely stay in there.
Pleasant
Great location and the restaurant was amazing.
Step back in time and loved it
From he first night there till the day we left. We were greeted as friends. They housekeeping staff knew our name and went above and beyond. Asking if we needed anything. The hotel feels like you stepped back to the mid-1950 with a modern feel. Rooms are great large with beautiful windows. The front desk were helpful with directions and even advice on great food locations near by. Overall deserves a 5 star hotel.
Very old property room or restroom wasn’t cleaned JUST NASTY
Great place to stay
Very friendly parking representatives conveniently located for our concert friendly staff from our check in to our breakfast time and throughout our checkout—I will definitely stay there again.
Disappointing
The Gunter was once a first-class well-maintained hotel. It now seems to be a cheaply updated flea house. It's a great location but not worth the price with so many other choices available. Sadly, I will never stay here again.
Extremely dated. Smells like mildew. Peeling paint and OLD wallpaper. I can appreciate the character of an old historic hotel, but this needs a serious renovation.
Location
Everything would have been fine if our room had not had a loud motor sound constantly. We thought it was the heat/a/c unit but with that turned off, it still continued---all night, until we left.
Great place!!! We loved it!
Across street from Majestic Theatre
Staff was helpful and polite. Room service prompt.
The property was well kept and the rooms were clean and spacious (at least the one we were in). It's in walking distance to many major attractions, including the Riverwalk, which is where we spent most of our evening. Across from the Mystic Theater, so if you're gonna go to a show - this would be the place to stay! Breakfast in the restaurant was a little slow, but it was tasty. Easy check in and check out. Valet parking was expensive ($50), but I hate parking, so it was worth it.
Customer experience was Excellent! We came to town to see a show and the staff accommodated us by allowing us to get into the Hotel room early, so we could make our show before regular check in. They also answered questions for us, since we were visiting from another city. This is a beautiful hotel property with rich history. My wife and I had a great time! I would highly recommend it as it is in the heart of downtown San Antonio near shops, food, entertainment, etc. You can Valet park and walk to all the local entertainment spots close to the hotel. This Hotel is a hidden gem.
Great stay!
Comfortable, clean and great breakfast options. Close to restaurants and riverwalk activities.
