i think it is unfair to judge the hotel as it was the first day of new management. i hope they spruces the rooms up and give it a good airing
Small, Cold room in a busy pub with no evening meal
The four poster room was lovely! Hotel conveniently situated and the staff friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was very good.
Exceptional service, great breakfasts, comfortable beds. Superb with allergies and my service dog. Lovely old property though not brilliantly maintained.
Pleasant staff.
Quirky
Lovely old quirky hotel , big rooms comfortable bed large bathroom, breakfast was lovely would use again
Be aware there are no car parking facilities here, you have to use a pay and display car park which increases your bill.
A good stay in this hotel. Lucky enough to be there for steak night which was a bargain - 2 rumps for £25. Cooked breakfast was also good and the room was comfortable. Will stay again if in the area.
Hotel room very clean comfy bed and great breakfast. Great price.
Excellent cooked breakfast.
The property was idea no complaints whatsoever. However the local area is not served with taxi services. When a taxi was eventually found we were quoted £50 for a fare under 2 miles. No where to park for longer than 4 hours duration. The taxi situation and parking spoilt the stay.
Business stop over
The accommodation is across the courtyard from the main pub on entering it didnt look very inviting, so up the stairs to the room (4) and I was very impressed very clean and comfortable decent size Tele for a hotel large shower only one little issue the sink drain was very slow (I meant to have told management) overall great value and would recommend and stay again
Very good
Central location; historic property with lots of character
Dated parking a problem
We arrived about 5 pm after a very long day travelling. The hotel was shut up no one available. We were informed by a business close by that the hotel had closed. We were very angry that they did not bother to inform hotels .com so the rooms would not on the site.
Room clean and adequate and warm. Food OK but not exceptional.
Well appointed rooms. Friendly staff, that were very accommodating towards two muddy mountain bikers and their muddy bikes. Despite being on the main road, the overlooking room was very quiet through the night. Parking is only available in the nearby pay and display, which is free between 6pm and 8am. Slight irritation to have to get a ticket to cover breakfast time. However, the lower room rate easily covers the small expense. Would stay again and recommend this hotel.
We found the staff disengaged, no food on Sunday nights, very lack lustre breakfast service and FEB worst we could remember. Noise from Lidl loading at dawn disturbing to sleep.
Overall very nice stay, staff very friendly and helpful. Food very nice.
Car parking issues
Ok for its star rating but service at mealtimes can be variable - seemed to be one person trying to do everything. Parking was a problem as car park maximum 4 hour stay by day and there was nowhere else - we were told to park near M&Co but that had a 90 min maximum stay.
Overnight Stay
A good value Hotel in the centre of Crewkerne. Clean and smart room wit very smart bathroom facilities. Good breakfast, server piping hot. Pleasant Bar area.
The George
The room was great, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was poor, no fruit juices available, no fruit or continental option and the coffee was awful! The cooked breakfast was fantastic though although I don’t like to eat these too often! Overall fine but the breakfast really let it down.
Dont
Not great, room ok, there was no parking which needs to be made more obvious on the website, we stayed here especially for the food which looked great and varied on the website but when we sat down for dinner there was only six items on the menu none of which I liked, we had to travel elsewhere to get something to eat, breakfast was pretty grim all stacked in a pile covered in pepper which I could smell from afar I hate pepper, when I did get my pepper free breakfast it was lukewarm and under cooked but by that time I had lost my appetite, I would never recommend this place. For the money we spent there are far better placed to stay
Surprisingly Quiet
Ideal for what we needed, the Room was very clean and surprisingly quiet for its location. When we checked in the lady on duty was very helpful and friendly explaining everything well. Breakfast and the morning staff was a completely different experience. Breakfast was poor, Restaurant was messy and dirty and the sraff not that friendly, infact on occasions a bit rude. We would stay there again if the location suited our needs and other Hotels weren’t available.
not a good experiance
the hotel could be a wonderful place to stay with a bit more attention. the overall cleanliness was awful. on the first morning a chef appeared out of the kitchen with a filthy dirty jacket on. I was put off by this so did not eat there any more. there was litter and dust on the dresser at the entrance to the rooms that stayed there the whole four days I stayed. the room was nicely set out but was not clean. I would have loved to stay there again but the overall cleanliness was very off putting
Nice location and but something not quite right !
Nice Hotel / Pub, rooms separated from the main building, my room was noisy from the boiler and the alley way outside the window with people smoking outside, but being a period type building would be difficult to noise insulate from the outside. Food I had was pub food, unfortunately I didn’t have such a good experience, I sent my food back as it didn’t come as described I.e things missing from the dish, I chose another, the young Chef apologies for the lack of ingredients which is fine of course but however U woke up in the middle of the night with some toilet troubles, not a healthy stomach let’s say ! This was from food that was deep fried so should not be an issue but something was not quite right, not food poisoning either ! Room was nicely presented, bed was nice to look at but left me aching in the morning. Breakfast was limited and slow as it was the same young Chef serving and cooking. The price is very reasonable for the right experience but unfortunately I did not have a good overall experience.
Would not stay here again
More attention needed to basic hotel keeping.
Nice, clean, comfy room ...... BUT. room not cleaned during stay Bed not made up Towels not changed Dirty towel in bathroom when we arrived No drinking water provided Welcome tray not replenished. Breakfast finished long before advertised time. This is under new management and the rooms have been refurbished but there is so much more that needs to be done for this hotel to get a good rating.
convenient for our visit
The hotel was excellent but the breakfast and service thereof was lacking. There was only one cereal, no juice, coffee served from a machine in the bar, table not laid for breakfast(set for an evening meal). food was mediocre. and the young man serving seemed surprised to see us. Having stayed before in this Hotel prior to takeover I was disappointed. I cannot fault, however , the room it was very good. Thankyou Maureen Redrup.
Flying visit
For the price we paid, we couldn’t fault it at all. We booked it the last minute, to visit a poorly family member, so wasn’t expecting anything special but we were very pleasantly surprised.
Somerset value
Temporary bar and restaurant whilst refurb happens do not ideal. Locals very loud Visited before refurb and saw new room so heading in right direction. Very helpful staff
Good value but very small room.
The desk staff, Muhammad, James and Gareth were brilliant.
Check-in easy. Room very clean and comfortable.Dining area and toilets in the bar area a bit in need of some tlc, but I think that is on the cards. Staff very friendly and helpful. The only downside of this hotel is the fact that it has no car parking.
Strange set up
The George is an unusual set up because it's rooms attached to a pub.The rooms have all had a very recent revamp because you could still smell the paint ,apart from the entrance way which still needed to be done. The pub itself needed a very major overhaul and was not a good advert for the rooms
Won't stay there again.
Hotel in process of renovation, room was shabby, you could not use TV and bedside light at same time as had to transfer the multi-socket from one side of the room to the other. Access to room via long corridor up and down several stairways. No parking at hotel, must use supermarket car parks. On main road through the town and very noisy.
welcoming hotel central to all facilities
lovely old building, situated conveniently in pleasant but busy crewkerne. we arrived by rail, so location a plus lovely food, rooms very good. staff helpful and efficient builders currently updating all the rooms, but didn't affect us at all in terms of noise. only downside was lack of hot water on first evening, due to the building works.
Lol
We booked 2 premium rooms but they must have a different definition of the word to me as having a 4poster bed in it doesn't quiet do it if the room doesn't get cleaned or the beds don't get made ther was no toilet paper in the bathroom. So overall experience was not good
Hotel under new ownership and working out problems
This hotel is under brand new ownership so please keep in mind they are working to improve. Firstly, we booked this hotel because of the very cheap rate of $67/night Canadian. The first room we had wasn't even worth half of that because the heat was unbearable and the TV didn't work and no wifi. After several calls they decided to move us to the George suite. This room was lovely and had a nice jacuzzi tub, great TV, etc. We were very happy with this room, however, would not have paid the price of 160 pounds per night. Breakfast was included and it was great....both hot and cold full breakfast was available. The staff were very nice and helpful. This is not an accessible hotel. Many, many steps up and down all over the hotel. Taxi service in this area is limited, so make sure you book in advance. There is a wonderful Indian restaurant right across the street which I highly recommend which is called Bengal Raj. There is a pub on the main level and the food is very good. There is a supermarket called Lidl for all of your needs very close by. Many quaint little shops around this hotel.
OK
OK for the money
value for money because of where it is and the time of year. Good staff and good food the hotel needs a spruce up but again it is value for money
A Traditional Inn
The George is over 400 years old, although the present building only dates from 1832. Considering its age it is still a handsome building and has been remarkably well looked after. The courtyard is an ideal spot for sitting with an afternoon beer watching the world go by whilst the former stables have been converted into little shops and a café. I was pleasantly surprised by my spacious, immaculately clean, twin room which came at a very reasonable single occupancy rate. Check-in was swift and friendly and throughout my stay I found the staff cheery and the public bar convivial with excellent beer. Breakfast was a simple affair, but nothing wrong with that - I didn't expect a 5-star champagne buffet. About the only minor fault is that there's no in-room Wi-Fi, but if you're in a suitable room you can pick up the free Wi-Fi from the nearby Costa Coffee during the day and I do believe you can use the hotel's connection in the bar if you ask for the code. The town centre location is ideal for the other hostelries, shops etc. and the local bus stop is just outside the archway if you want to get out and about.
En route from Bristol to Dorchester
Welcoming hotel in lovely country town setting.
Friendly staff, lovely room good breakfast included. Fantastic value for the price.
Disappointing
The hotel desperately needs attention. There are weeds growing on the outside of the facade and the interior is shabby and dark. The rooms are in a separate building and ours overlooked the main road which is used by Lorraine's throughout the night. There was no fan provided and the room got very hot. We couldn't open the window because of the noise from the Lorraine's and drunken revellers. The room itself was OK but the containers in the bathroom for gel and shampoo were empty. We only had eggs for breakfast which were cooked OK but there was no fruit.
Would Go Stay Again
It was good nice hotel
Room was a little tired especially the bathroom (which had carpet on the floor and a mango coloured suite) but it was clean, had everything in it including tea and coffee and the most clothes hangers we have ever seen. Wifi was a bit hit and miss. But for the price and with a great breakfast included for 2 it was great value!
Great stay at The George Crewkerne
Visiting family so The George was local to where he lives. The George was friendly, the breakfast was great, bed linen clean and bed very comfortable.
Good welcome and obliging staff. Good coffee. Too busy with family Christmas to look at Crewkerne itself.
