The hotel nearby a lot of shopping area, room are clean and comfortable, near train station but no direct train from Kyoto station.
2nd time at this hotel. Great bar/restaurant with views of Kyoto. Excellent location for sightseeing, dining, night life and shopping.
Would stay here again and again
Really enjoyed staying here. Close to food and shopping
Nice hotel, nice stay
Wonderful hotel and located within walking distance of the Nikishi market. The rooms are very clean. There is a cafe and coffee shop at the entrance of the hotel. Both have good food and coffee.
i wasn't able to fulky enjoy the hotel because we only stayed for a night but the staffs were very kind and accommodate. a lot of Restaurants and bars. the room has all the amanities and dont need to buy anything extra.
Great place to stay. It is closed to shopping and dining.
This was by far the best hotel that we stayed in on our Japan trip. I can't wait to come back!
Great location and amenities.
Loved the comfort in this hotel, beds and pillows were amazing. They provided pajama set which was so comfortable that we ended up buying it. Breakfast (western) was very nice with plenty of non-meat options. Japanese breakfast was sold out on both mornings we had breakfast there. Neat and clean room/bathroom, nice modern hotel (cinema room was very spacious). Would love to stay there again.
Prime location Lots to see and eat just a few steps away Extremely nice property with huge rooms for japan Close to transportation Will definitely be back!! Staff is amazing!!!
Loved the location! Close to Nishiki market and tons of restaurants. Great area, very vibrant.
Room was really nice, super generous space for downtown Kyoto
Beautiful property.
We enjoyed our stay at the Gate Hotel Kyoto immensely. We stayed in a Triple Room which was a good size room. The breakfast was excellent. They serve traditional western breakfasts but they also serve Japanese style breakfast as well (up to 30 per day) which was excellent. The hotel is centrally located near shopping and the Gion District. We also enjoyed the Shimabura Tayu show which showcases one of 5 Tayu (similar to Geisha or Oiran) that exist in all of Japan! What a treat that was to see and it was completely free for hotel guests. Will definitely come back!
Beautiful hotel in a perfect location
It was a great hotel and the size was huge in comparison to all the other Japan hotels. It’s convenient and I would stay there again.
Beautiful art hotel in Kyoto
Such a beautiful hotel with extremely helpful and friendly staff, a wealth of amenities and facilities and central to the shopping district. Our room even came with its own little art installation which was a pleasant surprise. On my Japan trip, ive had to do a lot of hotel hopping and decided i would treat myself in Kyoto and im so glad i did - The Gate Hotel Kyoto is one of my favourite hotel experiences and i will 100% be staying here again the next time I'm in Kyoto. Throuughly recommend to all travellers and a massive thank you to all the hotel staff - Two thumbs up!
Great location very clean place
Just great
Great location, great service and room was very well designed
Great breakfast. Courteous and helpful staff. Clean rooms. Great location.
We stayed in the classy king room which was very large as per Japanese hotel rooms. Had a nice view out as well. The beds were comfortable and the start was pleasant. It did lack a bit in terms of what you got for the money paid. Additionally, it was the only hotel room in Japan where we had to check out at 11am compared to the 12pm that we were offered in every other property. Overall, convenient and comfortable stay, but probably not value for money.
Exceptional Staff
Exceptional staff in the entire hotel during the entire stay.
Absolutely incredible hotel. The breakfasts were amazing - definitely try the Japanese option, 27 small fancy dishes - incredible. Drinks in the evening and performances!!!! I've never stayed at a hotel that included first rate performances (ie. Geishas, and unfortunately we missed it but drummers too)! Also, it's in a fantastic area to stay, - shopping promenades across the street "Nishiki Market - ie. Kyoto's kitchen", tons of restaurants, walkable to shrines and the Gion district. Very clean - first rate. I'd definitely recommend.
Perfect hotel for Kyoto
A modern slightly Japanes elegant and simply furnished hotel quite luxurious fabulous spacious rooms and incredible location next to liveliest part of town. Will stay there again next visit to Kyoto
Excellent find. Location is superb, just a few blocks from the best sushi in town: maruman.
Outstanding service, amazing ambiance and best of all is location. You are three blocks from Gion, across the street from Potoncho and two away from the main shopping area. Best of all is area is quiet and safe
Excellent hotel. Polite staff and wonderful service. Great location close to many small restaurants and bars. Clean and well organized. Wonderful breakfast with a beautiful view on top of the hotel. Occasional performances (geisha show, etc) in the hotel.. Yoga class available too. Great lounge area with free wine small snacks, and a small outdoor fire pit. The only thing we missed is a swimming pool. Rest was perfect!
Nice rooms and very clean hotel. Very close to food and nightlife options. Perfect place to stay while on kyoto
Very nice upmarket hotel in a great spot for shopping and trips to the Gion district. Unusually, the lobby is on the top floor of the hotel, which offers a great view over the city.
Closest location to visit our family and favorite shopping areas.
Excellent location. Comfortable and roomy facility . Extremely friendly staff. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience, will definitely come back again

Gate Hotel Kyoto
Lovely hotel with lots to offer and really well located. Breakfast was great.
Location, location, location!! We were closed to everything and within walking distance. The staff were friendly, polite, and very helpful. The rooms were modern, comfortable, and clean. Only thing I would change, is there was no English television. Adding apps to stream movies would make this the perfect hotel. We enjoyed our stay and will come again.
Such an amazing area. Most comfortable bed and accommodations in Japan we stayed
The rooms were nice and comfortable, we even stayed in a smoking room and it wasn’t smelly. I didn’t like that there was no room service at this hotel. I was able to hear my neighbors and people outside the hotel as well.
Amazing stay, possibly the best hotel I stayed at in Japan!
Very convenient location and friendly staffs
Best stay on our vacation trip
This is a great hotel. We love the extras. Umbrellas when raining, courtyard with coffee, wine, and smores. Price wasnt too bad either. Location was great for Kyoto. Only drawback, no laundry service where hotels.com says there is some. This threw off our plans. There is laundry 4 blocks away which worked out great for us.
Staff very argumentative. Service weak. Physical plant good, view/bar great
GREAT LOCATION AND GREAT FACILITIES
Every things are excellent.
Great hotel in a great location. Everyone was very nice and professional.
Very central, nice hotel
Great location and facilities.
Beautiful hotel, perfectly located. Clean and modern.
Great hotel location staff etc
Best location in Kyoto. They had complementary electric bikes that was helpful getting around Kyoto, walking
Great property in a good area
Excellent hotel in a buzzing area. It’s a new property and room sizes are good for Japan. Would recommend.
Great clean spacious hotel in Kyoto. Well located, excellent to explore Gion at night
We knew the area pretty good as we spent so much time during my university period (over 60 years ago), so staying this hotel bring back so much good memories ! Loved our room looking over almost entire Eastern Mountains (東山連峰) and Kamo River.
Great stay
This hotel was amazing, the rooms were so large and spacious. They even offer daily free snacks and beverages by the firepit which was a nice way to unwind after a long day. Highly recommmend this hotel to anyone. There is also great coffee downstairs at Blue Bottle!
Very clean and modern hotel. Staff was friendly and very helpful w our needs. Location is perfect, lots of shopping and food near by!
So convenient in Kyoto. Close to trains, lots of cabs, lots of colour and Nishiki markets. Though surrounded by Bars, restaurants and nightlife it never threatened or was not excessively noisy. Near the river for a ride A walk through Gion to check out more history. We had an amazing guide Hiroshi Oki, considerate and sharp operator We recommend breakfast at the Gate for its comprehensive menu and totally awesome views. David and Christine
Great hotel in beautiful Kyoto!
Exceeded Expectations
Great hotel on a lovely street in Kyoto with about as good of a location as I imagine is possible. Clean. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Nice and accommodating room.
Great Find
Great location. Great hotel. Worth the price.
Large room, comfortable beds, rain shower, cold a/c, close to Gion & Pontocho Alley, subway/train station, buses. Nice green area in front of the property.
Great property, nice rooms, close enough to walk to everything but far enough away that it's quiet. I'd stay here again.
Average hotel. No spa, pool services. Check in desk at 8th floor. Excellent location though. Specially if you going for cherry blossoms
Great location.
Great beautiful and well laid out floor plan for the room! Especially liked that there were options for the lights.
Great location for exploring Kyoto. Hotel had comfy beds and excellent shower. The lounge where coffee and light snacks were provided needed upkeep and was frequently out of milk for the espresso machine and cups not available.
Rooms were huge. Full sized bed. Very modern and clean. CNNUS English Channel on tv. Close to very fine restaurants and attractions. Close to many subways and busses.
Excellent
Fantastic hotel and great location
Excellent location and modern
Would definitely stay again
Excellent location. Wonderful property. Complimentary wine, nonalcoholic drinks, and light snacks daily were a nice surprise. Shower had great water pressure!
We loved this property. Its beauty, amenities, excellent staff and restaurant/bar. Its location is fantastic
Gorgeous hotel in an ideal location in central Kyoto. Walkable to train stations, shopping, bars and restaurants. We stayed in a corner room and it was spacious and quiet.
Few days in Kyoto
Close to shops, restaurants and culltural landmarks. Close to public transit system.
Great hotel and perfect location. Staff are fantastic
Great spot, lovely hotel.
Room were spacious clean and super comfortable. Staff were excellent and perfect position for dinning and shopping. Excellent location
Amazing hotel, great location.
We love our stay here. Great location with many restaurants and shops nearby. Friendly staff, nice facilities. We will stay here again when we come back.
Lovely stay
Everything was great.
Five star hotel great location
Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. We originally booked into a classy king but the hotel surprised us with an upgrade to a suite upon our arrival. The room was an amazing space to relax in after our days sightseeing, the bed was super comfortable, and the shower amazing. The extra hotel features like the lounge with drinks provided. After 2pm you can have wine as well as the tea and coffee available all day, and we loved finishing our day with a wine by the fire pit. The location is also another reason to choose this hotel - close to Nishiki market and Gion, and convenient to Gion I don’t think you can go wrong
Great experience, amazing location and high end hotel … one of the best I’ve stayed in!
The best hotel in Japan!
We travelled to Japan with our 10 month old and absolutely loved our stay here. Great location and walking distance to Gion, Pontocho, Nikishi market, etc. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. Cinema King room was extremely spacious and comfy. Would stay again!
Has the best view !!
Room is huge. Very new and clean to me. In the centre of the shopping district. Toilet and bathroom is separated. Breakfast is great. They have option for traditional breakfast or western breakfast. Great hotel view.
Highly recommend: perfect location in Kyoto, clean and great service
Couldn’t have been more perfect
So happy that I picked the Gate Hotel to stay at in Kyoto as it over delivered on all levels. Location couldn’t have been more convenient- a stones throw from bustling Kawaramachi_Street, a couple of minutes from Pontocho Alley and Nishiki market. As I stayed in The Gate over NY the hotel had laid on a number of cultural events with free access to all the guests which was a bonus added experience. The room couldn’t have been more comfortable or better laid out, with many thoughtful amenities like complementary pajamas to wear during your stay, epsom salts for the bath, headband for washing one’s face or doing make up. Luxurious bath and shower products … There’s also a gorgeous lounge and terrace with a fire pit on the 3rd floor where they serve complementary drinks and snacks to hotel guests in the afternoon and evening. I didn’t eat at the restaurant during my stay but I sipped a Japanese whiskey at the beautiful bar on the 8th floor overlooking the city. The service and staff were exceptional.
Good location. Restaurant has nice view. Breakfast limited choices. Very clean nice rooms and helpful staff
We chose The Gate Hotel Kyoto as our "headquarter" for its extremely convenient location for our Japan travel itinerary. And I cannot emphasize how convenient it is. It is about a 5 minute walk from the metro station that connects you to Arashiyama, Fushima Inari, and even Osaka. The first night we arrived and walked 10 mins to Nishiki Market, and then we discovered we were right next to downtown Kyoto. 20 min walk and you reach Ninenzaka and Kyomizudera. Everything is walking distance to this hotel. The rooms are quite spacious and have a great view of Kyoto, and everything feels like brand new. The staff is amazing. They have a traditional Japanese breakfast, but it runs fast. They start serving at 630 am, we arrived at 7am and they were sold out already. Next morning we went at 630 and there were already guests in the restaurant ordering the Japanese breakfast, so if you want the traditional, be there right at opening time or risk it getting sold out. Definitely I would recommend this hotel if this is your first time in Kyoto. Also, Kichi Kichi omurice is lke 2 minutes away on foot if you like viral tiktok trending stuff
It was a pleasure to stay but the mattress isn't comfortable
Great hotel and staff! Super helpful and welcoming. Great breakfast and very comfy beds!

Great location very new property
Fantastic hotel right next to a beautiful part of kyoto
Perfect location and comfortable hotel
Fantastic 4 night stay Highly recommend Would stay here again Loved the fire pit in the evening after a long day at temples
Had an amazing stay for 2 nights at this hotel. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Location is great, next to potoncho alley and kawaramachi dori so plenty of dining options. Gion is walkable or you can take plenty of buses to kiyomizudera, ginkakuji/kinkakuji. Subway station is also close by. There is a lounge serving light snacks, free house wine and juices as well and at night there was a small bonfire outside the lounge where you can roast your marshmallows. Overall, an amazing hotel 10/10.
It can be quite noisy with the motorbike sound at night. Free beverage is great and nice pillows.
Good spot near touristy areas of Gion and Pontocho street. The hotel rooms are small and expensive for what you get.
