Very beautiful hotel, staff was friendly, but wished they explained the amenities around the hotel. I had to figure it out myself by looking at other people’s reviews. Beverages at the mini bar fridge are not cold, wish it was colder, the drinks were lukewarm. I arrived earlier than check in time so decided to go to the cafe to grab a coffee, some staff said “no” and another said “yes, I can come in.” Super confusing and then it took forever for the waitress and the ordered coffee to arrive. The onsen in the room was amazing though.
Everything was amazing about this place. It is one of the most memorable places for my daughter and I with strongly recommended and it’s definitely a place you must see and vacation.
Hot spring tub makes this a great hotel
The hot spring hot tub is the best part of the hotel! Overall hotel is fine- nothing special for the price but for the personal hot spring tub, which was amazing. Food was ok, service was as expected. It’s no where close to downtown Kyoto but so many amazing sights to see around the hotel. If you want quiet - this is the place.
Staff and service great! A little overpriced for the rooms and unless you can book the special rooms the pictures can be deceiving! We were definitely not wowed by our room! Onsens were okay but nothing to brag about! And you have to pay extra to use the onsens … dinner at restaurants was great quality but overpriced! The reviews all show it to be very luxurious but it’s just a normal hotel….staff was very helpful and accommodating but the area is quite boring!
Not a 5* Hotel. Outdated rooms, Terrible or nonexistent Facilities. Restaurant closes at 10pm. No bar opened. Personal unable to understand basic English. Everywhere else in Japan, hotel personnel speaks very good English , at least in 5* Hotels. They kept changing temperature in the suite from 25C to 19C so the room after returning from 34degrees summer heat outside felt like freezer. Stay somewhere else. It feels more like dead property with end near. Personal was trying, but without training and basic English is hard to help.
Nice area, nice property. Food was terrible, service was ok but not the best.
Felt like valued guests in the property. Staff are available before the trip and during the trip for any requests, even if last minute.
It is a beautiful hotel
Beautiful surroundings, quite location.
The view of the mountains and the Katsura River was worth the price of admission.
Beautiful room and food, upgraded room to room with its own hot spring. Amazing gardens.
Perfect getaway
A lovely property and amazing service. They go above and beyond.
Gorgeous grounds but small and unimpressive rooms
Beautiful hotel and grounds but too expensive for what it is. The location is great and the grounds are beautiful, like a classic Japanese garden. But the rooms are WAY too expensive for what they are, which is quite small. The grounds of the hotel, breakfast area, tea room etc. could not be more stunning but once you are in the room itself it is very small and ordinary, not particularly luxurious and not enough value for what we paid. It is located in a beautiful area on the outskirts of Kyoto however, right on the river. You can have coffee in the morning or tea/champagne/sake in their team room and watch the boats on the river. UNESCO heritage sites and the famous bamboo grove are both a short walk away.
The beautiful gardens and this temple was reconstructed into this luxury hotel.
Great Stay
Our stay (4rooms w private onsen in room)?was very enjoyable. Quality service byond our expectations. All staff were warm & friendly. Food was fantastic...worth the price paid for. Location - BEST! Highly recommended. We will definitely include Suiran in our next annual trip to Japan!
Very calm and comfortable but poor room service food and overpriced hotel compared with other 5* hotels
Located in the very best Arashiyama point. Best view of the river. Hotel room is big, clean, cosy and very good amenities. Onsen is good and private. Breakfast is superb. Staffs are very nice.
Wonderful service, great food, nice location, authentic
Exquisite hotel! Located in serene beauty, walking distance to Forrest, temples, shopping, restaurants, along the river. Absolute must stay here!
Beautiful relaxing and luxurious!
This traditional style looking Japanese home has elaborate gardens and beautiful natural settings of trees and flowers and rock paths that made this place so unique. The rock onsen was a great experience and the cocktail hour was superb! I brought my children in the lounge and they had fun too! There’s fresh fruit juices and appetizers for my children. I could sit and enjoy a great glass of red wine and a glass of champagne with appetizers. This hotel is modern on the inside with the original structure dated back 100 years or so ago! Beautiful setting, peaceful and serene. Next time I visit Kyoto I will stay here again but for a longer time. I loved it!
Restful, serene hotel
I really enjoyed my stay at Suiran. The location is beautiful and it is a convenient walk to many destinations. The room is very comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was quite good. We stayed for six nights and they allowed us to order off menu so we could change up our breakfast choices. The happy hour was lovely, allowing one to sit out on the porch and enjoy a beverage. We took advantage of the in room spa services and had a positive experience. My only suggestion is that the lighting in the bathroom isn’t very good and a lighted makeup mirror would be a helpful addition.
Highly Recommend
Terrific stay at this hotel. Located on the outskirts of Kyoto (within a 20 min drive to downtown) was a positive for us. Some great natural sights (especially the bamboo grove, the river right outside, and the multiple cherry blossom trees throughout) made for a more serene setting. Service was impeccable and our rooms were very comfortable and spacious. Literally the only thing that was not top notch is the fact that you only have one restaurant to eat at on-site. Tons of places to eat nearby, but for some people that may be an issue. We would definitely recommend Suiran and will stay here again.
Lovely property, wonderful staff. Service was impeccable. Absolutely flawless stay. Will definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.
A Taste of Kyoto Not to be Missed!
Our stay at the Suiran was a very special and memorable experience, and our first introduction to Japanese people and culture. It represents the best of Japan from its friendly and helpful staff, to cleanliness, modern amenities and great food. We enjoyed the champaign over-looking the river and the Japanese tea ceremony, private onsen and rickshaw ride to the bamboo forest. Nothing was overlooked in our stay, the staff made us feel very special throughout our visit and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto. They told us the 2 best times were May for the flowers and Nov for the fall colours but we loved it regardless.
Good location
One of the newer hotels in the area. Good location. Nice decors. Friendly service.
Overpriced
This hotel is overpriced and they charge for every single thing. The staff was extremely pleasant but was not able to be helpful for recommending restaurants and bars. One should not pay more than 250 USD per night.
The hotel is well maintained and in a very peaceful area.
Quiet, luxurious, top class service
I had an amazing time at Suiran, the rooms were clean, hotel staff was friendly, well trained and provided too notch service. The hotsprings were spot on and a must try. Food was ok but prices were extended. Overall a 5 star stay
Beautiful, Amazing and everything in between
Arriving to Suiran you could tell it was a very high standard with staff taking in your luggage as you arrive. Everything was explained to you upon arrival and they also explained places to visit and the best times to go. I had booked a private onsen slot, they have 2 variations ( rock or wooden ) I had used the Rock one. Very relaxing and just a nice atmosphere. I also booked dinner Tepanyaki style, I went with the set menu and the food was AMAZING and very filling and I would highly recommend this. Location is close to the bamboo forest and the Monkey park. They have a free taxi so dont forget to use but my sim card only had data so was unable to call to make this booking but was able to use the free taxi back to the train station. Staff greeted you by your name which made you feel that much more important. Although pricing was a bit high you did get your moneys worth in service and amenities. I would definitely come back and stay again in future!
Terrible location and nothing special
I never write reviews but this was the most disappointing part of what otherwise was a wonderful trip . I can't believe this hotel has the nerve to put itself in the same category as the Ritz. the area where the hotel is located completely shuts down at six. You are a prisoner to their very, expensive and very mediocre food service. They do nothing to make you feel like a special guest. The rooms and public area were pleasant but very uninteresting. I wish somebody would have warned me
We had a fantastic experience. Hotel, room, location and staff were wonderful.
Service and people were amazing!
Lovely hotel in the area
Very nice hotel! Everything was new and clean. Will definitely come again!
Superb! All perfect except breakfast
This hotel was amazing! We booked the king size bed with private hot spring inside the room. Hotel is beautiful, newly opened less than 2 years and room is clean. Although it's a bit of walking from the train station, the location is close to the busy street with all the shops and sightseeing spot. The hotel doesn't provide much amenities but we were totally fine as we were only looking for a quiet relaxing place to chill and enjoy the hot spring. One thing they need to improve is the breakfast, we ordered the room service and my oat meal was tasteless. Everything else was average. With the price we paid we definitely expect something better than this.
Fabulous on the western edge of Kyoto
Though right near a major tourist site (Bamboo Forest), it felt amazingly tranquil and serene . The on--site Onsen is tremendous. The room was fabulous and the service great.
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful surrounding
Comfortable and relaxing environment. Staff were exceptionally hospitable and warm.
4 star hotel at 5 star rate
Great location - but rooms are small 40 sq m for 5 star rooms and high priced - when complained upgraded to presidential room for 2 days. No draws in room to unpack bags into. Restruant not of same standard as local restruants. Lots of detail that could be improved on
Beautiful Hotel in Great Location
It was wonderful! We wished we could stay longer. The property is unique and luxurious.
will recommend to friends
fabulous hotel. quite, clean, beautiful view. close to world heritage. will stay absolutely
A slice of heaven in Kyoto
Beautiful locale and exquisite room.
Great time at Suiran Kyoto
Excellent stay. Beautiful property with well-designed Japanese rooms and onsen. Fantastic in-room dining and restaurants.
magical
dreamy
Beautiful serene location on the river
Booked this hotel for 2 nights in the middle of our honeymoon as a relaxing escape from all our busy traveling/sight seeing and it was exactly that. Very serene, beautiful area and the hotel reflected that.
Excellent Service, Avoid Restaurant
We booked two rooms, during the cherry blossom season. Rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. Staff was excellent and very attentive. They were very helpful with out-of-hotel reservations They even called us on our overseas phone while we were in Kyoto to let us know that the last seats for a show were still available. They booked us tickets on the Shinkansen to Tokyo and offered us a complimentary taxi to the train station. The hotel is in a very nice area, on a river but at least thirty minutes away by taxi ($30 one way) from downtown Kyoto. The big disappointment was the hotel restaurant (the only one). Of the three main dishes we ordered, two had accompanying mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were forgotten and we had to remind them. These came 10 minutes after we ate our meat. To make things worse, the bill came with an extra salad that we never ordered (four salads for three people). For these two serious mistakes we only got a brief polite "we are sorry". I am an SPG member and, as such, I am entitled to 15% reduction on food and beverage. While the SPG membership was recorded at check in, on check out I was told that the reduction was included, but on revising the bill it was not and it had to be deducted from the bill after I drew attention to that. Overall we still enjoyed our stay, but do not recommend the restaurant.
Western chairs could be part of the rooms, the ones we had were hard as rock. There could be a bar within the hotel with comfortable chairs and not clear bright lights. The English or French language is lacking, the personnel only understands the basics. Men are served first which should be the opposite, women's needs are not important.
Love this hotel Will definitely return
Everything is lovely about this hotel. Great location....right next to the river and walking distance to sightseeing, shopping and restaurants. Beautifully appointed room decorated with lacquered Japanese furniture and equipped with modern amenities making the stay very enjoyable. The bed and pillows are very comfortable facilitating a good night sleep. The only drawback is noises from next guest room and road behind fenced private hot spring bath that make using the bath a little less peaceful
Amazing inside and out
Brilliant hotel in a fantastic space with mountains to the north and a great river near by with plenty of small business to keep busy with. The room it's self was beautifully spacious with chic decor, English speaking staff (and tv) restaurants looked lovely but have other plans. Didn't seem to be too busy but very large hotel with spa and work out options. Will be looking for rooms again
SUIRAN Hotel and Kyoto both GREAT Places
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Suiran Hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful
Trip to Arashiyama Monkey Park
Hotel was one of the nicest I have stayed at in Japan in my 15 months of living here! Beautiful gardens and helpful staff! Located right on the river.
Nice new luxury hotel
Everything new. Very nice hot spring and bathroom. Everything faciliate relaxation time.
The environment of hotel is green and fresh The food of hotel restaurant is tasteful
Overpriced. Would never in my lifetime pay again for this place for that price. Inflated due to the overwhelming number of tourists in the area. Hotel is fine if it was half the price
very nice hotel , room is big , clean n tidy, hotel staff provide reliable good service
overprice. not worth it!
overprice. not worth it! charging without notice.
Beauty and comfortable
Nice landscape and very nice employees Provide vegetable meal and very delicious.
sophisticated & comfortable
staffs were incredibly nice, hotel itself was peaceful and clean yet so many crowded tourists were in arashiyama. since there’s not much to do in arashiyama, staying in a nice hotel was a perfect idea. It would have been much nicer if there was a decent classic & traditional kaiseki dinner service not french & japanese fusion. Except for the dinner, I would definately visit again if I have a chance to go to kyoto. It was such a satisfying stay.
Good hotel but expensive
Free taxi ride from or to station! But only one way :( that means either when you check in OR out :’(
Absolutely beautiful hotel. What I love the most is the private onsen in the room. It's in a semi-open space (not in the room, but under a roof kind of in the back balcony). The private onsen refills itself, and temperature regulated. It was amazing. Beautiful scenery, excellent staff, exceptional breakfast.
