Very nice stay on the mountain in the park.
We really liked the room and the area in which Skyland is situated. It is scenic and beautiful. It is a nice place to get away from it all. Our room had a balcony in which to look out over the mountains beyond. The only drawback for us was the room was hot. It was nice to come into a warm room when we arrived at 9 PM and 40 degree weather outside, but the heater worked too well. We reduced the room temp to 66 degrees and it was still too warm through the night.
Beautiful setting and views! The rooms are in poor condition for the price. I do not require 5 star accommodations but I feel like it was very over priced.
This lodge is located inside the park and has excellent access to the trails and vistas in the park especially if you want to do hiking. Room was wood panel for an old school feel, bathroom was modern. Room had a balcony which was beautiful to hear the wind in the trees and relax after a long day on the road. Would stay again
The facilities are quite nice! Well-kept, convenient parking, satisfactory restaurant with supplemental outdoor seating, and lovely gift shop. Great views from the restaurant. There are cabins at the parking level and others that you walk to below the main level. Short drive to various hiking spots. We were able to get in a solid hike on each of 2 days with a one night stay. Plan to day hike and just hit the restaurant for a meal and blackberry ice cream very soon!
Unique & memorable in the Shenandoah area. Resort in high in the clouds!
Cabin room was nice with gorgeous view. Location is best feature (just about middle of park).
Nice environment. Great location
.
Wonderful Shenandoah National Park accommodations reminiscent of times-gone-by! Love the old time warmth the lodge provides with it's cozy pine clad sitting rooms, the expansive floor to ceiling views, and rustic stone fireplaces. Amazing access to breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and wonderful hiking trails that intertwine with the Appalachian Trail. Amazing experience all around!
Lukwed that it was central in the park with an easy accesd. I wish there was a quick serve dining option.
Skyland is a great place to stay if you wish a home base in the park. Even with a 12 hour electrical outage (thanks Helene), we had a good time.
We only stayed one night, but our stay was great! The staff were so friendly and helpful with info on the park. The room was very clean and comfortable. Definitely will stay there again!!
The location was great for access to many hiking trails. The area of the lodge was clean and quiet with excellent views from the room balcony, and Skyland restaurant. The staff was very friendly and professional. Definitely a plus to stay inside the park!
We had a one night stay at Skyland. Sadly, the area was socked in with fog so we were unable to see any of the beautiful vistas Skyland has to offer. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the charming dining room. All of the staff we interacted with were courteous and friendly. Our room was nicely appointed with a balcony to take in the views ( or misty fog lol). The bed was adequate but the plastic liner beneath the sheets was slippery and bothersome. We would love to visit again to see more (hopefully!) of the natural beauty of the area and do some hiking.
Excellent experience in an amazing location.
Great property
Our room in Appledore lodge was in horrible shape. My wife is covered in bites from insects in the bedding. Hotel management is insisting it wasn't bedbugs, but we found bugs and carcasses of some type. When mattresses were flipped for inspection, we found disgusting stains on the mattress protector. Rather than replace, they had flipped the most disgusting side to the bottom. Luck of the draw, I suppose, but I wouldn't trust other rooms. Management has apologized for the state of the room and says they were processing refunds. Additionally, dining room menu is set at top quality restaurant prices but the food is very subpar and understaffed crew cannot provide good service. Stay down the mountain. The concessionaire, Delaware North, is damaging the National Park Service's reputation.
Loved the convenience of being close to trails and meals
Skyland exceeded my expectations. The staff made sure I was set up well, and they cared about the experiences I was having in the area. I even came back to one staff member to let them know I made it through Old Rag's rock scramble on a wet day just fine. The dining experience allows you to build camaraderie with other hikers that you see at meals during the week. My room was in Bushytop and was very quiet and peaceful, while still maintaining modern conveniences like soap, shampoo, numerous electrical outlets, etc. Skyland in within about 10 miles of many of Shenandoah's major hikes, which I took full advantage of.
Best place for a very quiet weekend
Our server Eli was outstanding! The view from our cottage was beautiful!
In spite of poor weather there were other activity options
We love the park and Skyland is beautiful, dining was good, servers friendly. We had some bugs in bathroom and I have bite marks, not sure from what.
This is an awesome place right inside the park. An old CCC hotel that is charming and worth the stay. Excellent location and great staff.
First room we stayed in was wheel chair accessible. this was my mistake when i booked it but the bed was horrible, and the pillows were like rocks. The heater/ AC unit in the room did not work properly. they did change our room without hesitation. However, it was still not what we were expecting, and the pillows were still awful. Breakfast was not worth eating Dinner was tolerable. The view once clear was stunning #donotrecommend
Absolutely love it despite the poor weather.
Very convenient location along skyland drive. Short drives to many trailheads. The back porch on my room had a great view of the mountains/sky at sunset. The on-site bar/restaurant was a solid option with a good variety - good impossible burger. Room cleanliness/quality was not reflective of the ~$300 night all-in price. HVAC was very loud which is unfortunately necessary because you the windows are inoperable. Heater in the bathroom was rusted beyond belief and inoperable. Main issue on cleanliness was a blood stained pillow that the cleaning people just put a new pillow case on (noticable through the cover). I'm not sure I'd stay here again in a "premium" unit.
Beautiful area. Food was very good at both the lodge and motel. A bit pricey. Ask for the chil’s menu for smaller portions. Unfortunately it was foggy so not much to see from our room. Room was just ok. Nothing spectacular for the price we paid. No microwave. Bed mattress was flimsy. Room was clean.
Cant wait to go back.
room not ready. no bathroom for 2 days.
Had an excellent view and room was clean and bed was comfortable
During our stay there was a lot of rain. We discovered oin our 2nd night that the roof/ceiling was leaking onto our desk area under the TV...dripping every 3-4 seconds. Fortunately, we had our clothes in our suitcases elsewhere.
Skyland is my favorite place in Shanendoah. The park itself is a national treasure. This lodge has been updated and some rooms refurbished. Bring your hiking boots, great trails are literally around the corner. An ADA compliant trail is within a mile of the lodge.
Beautiful place we absolutely loved it.
It was very nice and the views were beautiful.
You stay at Skyland for the location. What once must have been a gem in the Skyline Drive route, is now a bit worn. Food is nice but basic and on the high end of average prices. Room was not very clean but views were great. Easy access for a short trail walk from the cabins. Horse riding on site. Entertainment on certain days. Resort is well spread out and even though there seemed plenty of guests, it never felt busy.
Beautiful views
Clean and everyone very helpfull
Not what we expected based on the Orbitz website. Our room was disappointing. The Air Handler was noisy and the Bed creaked with every movement. The staff was very friendly and helpful. All-in-all the place needs more TLC and refreshing. Probably should disclose that there is an Entrance Fee to get onto the Skyline Drive, which is the only way to access Skyland.
Very nice lodging right inside the park!
Great place to stay for hiking near by. Staff were wonderful! Very clean cabin. Only certain rooms have a frig so ask ahead. Only family units have a microwave. Very good food at restaurant.
Excellent place for a peaceful getaway!
We have stayed at Skyland a handful of times. Different rooms have differing views and it seems to be luck of the draw, but the surrounding area is always peaceful. We especially enjoyed dark skies viewing from the porch in the late PM. There were many food options at the lodge (dining room, tavern, grab and go), but no fridge in the room, so plan your meals ahead of time!
Property is a 20 minute walk away from the office. Office staff is friendly, but room service was so so - there is no daily room cleaning, and after we requested them to change the bedding they left the door unlocked with our suite case inside. There are two EV charging spot near the office only; charging the car means you'll need to do a 20-minute walk to your room; further more the number of EV charging spot is a joke and is almost always occupied. Other national park lodges (such as grand canyon) have much more spot in much more convenient spots.
We had a great stay in Skyland. The location is superb and the room (we stayed in premium room) was very clean and equipped with all required amenities. The staffs were very courteous. The on-site restaurant was also very good. Although the options were limited but considering the location it was just fine and the food was very tasty. Overall a highly recommended place.
Convenient with Great Service
The bedding was not great. The mattress pad was rubber/plastic. It did not stay on the bed.
Nice clean room and great location. Recommend the stay.
Great area with great fresh nature smells in the back porch. Super friendly staff too.
It's in the middle of the Skyline Drive, and amongst the Shenandoah mountains. Beautiful view. Close to dozens of hiking trails.
Great location. Clean room. Check in was convenient and staff were lovely. Restaurant food was good and can’t beat the view. Even has a mini Starbucks!
This stay was a major major letdown, I'd booked to stay for 3 nights for some R&R during our two-week holiday which was otherwise about being constantly on the go. Having previously really enjoyed our stay in Yellowstone National Park where all the facilities are run by the National Park Service and the staff were friendly and engaging, Delaware North are the complete opposite, and should, frankly, hang their heads in shame. Our accommodation was not only some distance, but also down an extremely steep hill from the restaurant / coffee stand / shop, the drive to this was only explained on arrival. Yes, the map is on their website, but it's 2D with no explanation that the accommodation is actually on many different levels. There were no safes in the rooms, this meant I had to carry our passports everywhere so they could not get stolen. Reception didn't seem to understand my surprise at the lack of security. The rooms were dark everywhere, dark walls, floors, ceilings, and surrounded by trees not being cut effectively to allow any light into the properties. We arrived on the Thursday, on Friday the espresso machine broke and wasn't fixed by the time we left on the Sunday, so no opportunity to get a decent coffee. The restaurant menu was extremely limited, we ran out of options by our last night so had to repeat what we ate. Finally when I checked out, the lady asked if everything with our stay was OK, when I said no and tried to explain I could tell she was not listening.
Absolutely gorgeous stay. The view is incredible and the grounds are so peaceful. Love the little trails from our room to the main dining area. Stayed for my sisters wedding and excited to come back to enjoy just as a vacation. There was a permanent box structure in the middle of the aisle where my sister walked down the aisle. She had to walk around it which was a bummer. Would recommend finding a way to change the layout of the aisle so brides can get a full “walking down the aisle” experience without having to accommodate a giant 3’x5’ box blocking the aisle. Just a suggestion.
Beautiful place. Restaurant is noce, not as good as it used tp be. Trees have grown blocking .oet views.
Close to many good hiking trails.
It is a very comfy, spacious room near an excellent restaurant.
Skyland is just a breath of fresh air
Beautiful scenic location. Room could have been a little cleaner.
Beautiful view, quiet setting. The beds were comfortable. The room was basic but nice; however, the bathroom urgently needs an update.
Great location. Wish we were able to stay longer and enjoy the park more. Definitely coming back!
Very comfortable. It was reasonable in off season.
Skyland is rustic but quaint and scenic. The rooms could use a little updating but ours was clean and comfortable. The restaurant is fantastic and the service there is excellent. We also enjoyed the tap room and gift shop and the staff was pleasant.
Great family stay in the mountains!
Beautiful view
Such a beautiful little place to stay at . It was very peaceful and the view was amazing !!
An incredible stay in the park. The look of an older cabin with modern amenities. It was great waking up with a cup of coffee on the porch with views of the skyline.
Best place to stay in Shenandoah national park.
👍
Beautiful surroundings, great food!
Late check in
Late check in at 4:40. The room was not ready at 4:pm.
Very clean cabin, quiet, all amenities in good working order.
Love the drive and staying at Skyland this time was a really nice treat.
I booked a premium room with a mountain view .. no interior lock on door .. no mountain view .. view obstructed with overgrown trees .. so disappointing paid for something I didn’t get .. over priced .. no ..
Accomodation in the recently remodeled suite were great!
I really enjoyed my stay here, the check in and check out was so easy and quick. The room was easy to find and it looked really good. The view and the area around is fantastic. Can't wait to come back.
No AC very old facility
Great area and views
beautiful environment with fresh mountain smell and easy access to all trails
Nice time
The AC did not work. There were dead flies on the bed. Room was not that clean. They moved us to another room. At least the AC worked. This room was not very clean either. Dirt and dust bunnies up around the bed and corners. Definitely got overcharged on this booking, was not worth 252/night. very unsatisfied with what l was charged. Plus we had to buy a pass for $30 just to be able to get to our room. Definitely not recommended.
Convenient stay in the park.
Had a great stay at Skyland. It is much more convenient staying inside the park especially for a several day stay with plans to hike. Check in went very quickly and cabin was easy to find. The room was comfortable, but be aware that there is no fan so if you want air flow, you need to open the front and back door. The porch was nice with comfy chairs. Shower was basic but meet the need. Plenty of towels provided. My only issue is that the cleaning team never came. The note in the room said either daily or every third day for longer stays. So no garbage removal or restocking of the coffee. Only other comfort that would have been a nice addition is a mini frig.
This property is great for anyone who wants peace and quiet. It has so many beautiful views and great food and service!
Motor inn with great views of the valley. Rooms are spartan, no ac. Bathrooms were functional. Had direct tv however. You’re paying for the location within the park. On site restaurant was better than expected. No daily maid service as well. Fine for 2 nights but it was hot and a longer stay would not have been optimal. Reminiscent of motels in the 1970s.
Loved it here. The room was mostly nicely updated, and there was a gorgeous porch overlooking the valley.
A mouse woke us up at 3 a.m. We were told that they couldn’t do anything to refund us since a manager was not there. Also because “we booked through a third party.” We were given a managers number but I have tried 4 times and can not get the managers help.
Very polite and friendly staff.
I loved the warm vibe and rocking chairs. The weather was perfect for lack of AC even in July. Very clean and restful. Great dining and views.
Beautiful scenery and quiet national park.
The staff , from the moment we arrived , till we left were very welcoming. Our waitress Amy helped us with suggestions for our dinner (Pork shank)was delicious and we bonded over her daughters competition in my town the week prior and her son also works there (great people). Wish i had a microwave in the room, to heat up my delicious leftovers . I am already planning/plotting 😂 for my next visit with a group of friends 2025 .
A return from many years prior. Pleased it was still there and available. Updates in keeping with nature of the area.
Disappointing view, food options in the dining room could be improved, friendly staff, price was high for what you get.
Gorgeous views, great food, great hiking. Great National Park and lodge.
Beautiful views and walkable trails for older people. Only complaint is lack of Internet connection. Was spotty at best. Rest of the day was wonderful. Bed very comfortable. Recommend highly if you want to unplug from the Internet.
Cabin was a little warm, and did show it's age. Given that it's been there for ages, and is a rural mountop national park scenario - perfect. Staff, dinner ( those desserts!), checking in and out, all just great. Can't wait to go back!
Skyland Lodge is our home away from home, a beautiful and restful respite from Washington D.C.
Staying at Skyland made my Shenandoah National Park vacation sooooo much better. I was there to hike and bike & just stay in the chill park vibe as much as possible. Skyland delivered! From my front door, I walked to the Appalachian Trail and rode my bike to Skyline Drive. The room itself was basic, but everything worked--well worth paying extra for A/C. And the view from the back deck was amazing! Just plan ahead when it comes to food. The room had a decent sized refrigerator but no microwave. And Skyland restaurant was pricey with a limited menu. You can head into Luray or Sperryville, but that takes time.
The views were incredible and access to hiking was superb.
It’s convenient but everything is very old
Waking up to coffee and a view was the best. Kids loved it. Food was great there
Beautiful!
Nice
Rustic and nice.
Awesome Weekend at Skyland
We had a great trip at Skyland and Shenandoah in general! The resort felt like upscaled camp, the food was good and the views were incredible. Our room was nice and had a little balcony, but the bathroom could use some updating. The location couldn't be beat!
