Comfortable
The bed is big. We had king size bed. Can actually sleep 3 adults. Staff are friendly and helpful. Cafe snacks and drinks are abit pricy. Hotel not so modern.
Holiday with friends
Overall excellent. Was disappointed that my request for connecting room was not given. The king size bed can actually sleeps 3 adults. It’s hugh.
The room is very clean and comfortable, the hotel lobby is very beautiful.Transport is very convenient, Bus stop and MRT station are very near the hotel. It is also convenient for shopping and eating. All staffs are polite and friendly, We have a very good stay at Shangri-La Hotel, we will definitely come back again when we visit Xian next time.
The staff here really nice and friendly. They gave me a small toy as souvenirs.
Very nice hotel. Will stay again
Property need updating Staff and coverage very helpful
Had one night stay, great location, good service, breakfast average.
Excellent stay!
Excellent service and clean rooms! Only downside: Xian's air quality is a mess!
Excelent, just a little room for improvement
Excelent hotel, my only critique is the slow internet.
Enjoyable very friendly staff and helpful especially Angela Li at check in she was very professional and helpful thank you..
Wonderful hotel in a wonderful city
Excellent hotel! Whilst being a little outside the central areas, all hotel facilities were amazing! High recommended!!
we like everything while we stayed in Shangri la in Xian. Their food is okay!
Its a clean practical place to stay. Beds are more comfortable than most in china. The rooms and interiors are ready for an upgrade/refresh. They look a bit dated which is strange as the outside still looks fresh and modern.
I stayed in another Shangri-La in Futian Shenzhen right before this, so there is a direct comparison between two Shangri-La and Futian Shenzhen beats Xi'an hands-down on every aspect.
Only issue was being given a smoking room and having to change
The property is nice and amenity could be in a more refine to make this property standing-out.
Great hotel for family vacation
We had a really good stay in this hotel for our family vacation. The hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful. I will say very Shangri-la! The breakfast was very good, although not as big as in the other Shangri-la we stayed at before, such as in China World in Beijing. But it was big enough and have everything my family and I needed. The manager of the breakfast place was very professional and friendly. He took great care of my parents who are in their 80s. The Chinese restaurant in the hotel was among one of the best Chinese restaurants in any hotel that I have stayed at. Again, the staff was professional, friendly and very helpful. They made you feel right at home. We actually ended up eating most of our dinners there during our week long stay. Very convenient! We enjoyed every one of our dinners and had great family time there.

Trust me, you want to stay here
This hotel sets the bar for guest service. Before arriving I requested a taxi to pick me up at the airport, and was met outside the baggage claim. As soon as I entered the hotel an employee met me in the lobby, took me straight to my room, where we completed check-in. Buffet breakfast offered numerous Chinese and Western choices (longyan, my favorite Chinese fruit, was available), all delicious. There's a driving range behind the hotel, but I had only a few days to spend in Xi'an and wanted to see as much as possible, so didn't try it. The hotel-arranged tour of the terra cotta warriors was outstanding: Penny, our guide, gave us a wealth of information on Xi'an's history and the warriors. She made our visit to this epic archaeological site even more impressive. A truly first-class hotel in every way.
Best service!!
I really enjoyed Xian, I only stayed there for 3 days. Wish it would have been longer as there is so much to see. My stay in Shangri la Xian was exceptional, the customer service for check in and check out was good. The breakfast had so much options. The room was very comfortable. I definitely recommend the Shangri la Xian.
Comfortable, but lots of building works outside
Comfortable hotel, but the building work outside was noisy in the evenings, and inconvenient for getting into and out of the hotel. Enjoyed the tour to the Terracotta Warriors, as arranged by the hotel. Thanks to Penny our guide.
Excellent stay with included tour of the Warriors
Excellent hotel. Staff was very personable. We booked a tour to the Terracotta Warriors through the hotel. Penny was or guide. She was very knowledgeable as she was a local in Xi'An. She was very kind, kept us to schedule, and took us to a wonderful Chinese lunch after. We were not going to get a guide at first but this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Penny was wonderful and would highly recommend her for touring Xi'an and the surrounding area.
Three days in Xian
The room was as usual of a high standard of comfort.
B in Xi'an
Hotel is wonderful, large rooms, great staff, big pillows and towels.
Great satisfaction for Family
Top hotel with great swimming pool and facilities. Great choice of food
Lovely hotel, convenient
Awesome bed, nice pool and hot tub, happy children about on Christmas Day! Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Xian makes a great weekend destination, as we saw the fabulous warriors from 200 BC, and rode a bike on top of the ancient city wall, parts of which date back to 500 AD. A five-star trip starting with this 5-star hotel.
Excellent hotel
Staff, room size, amenities etc., everything was good. Specially, having tv at a bathroom was nice.
Beautifu hotel located in teh new city
Came late got beautiful room, had great breakfast. Hotel is comfortable and well set
Great hotel
The Assistant Chief Concierge was extremely helpful and had the broken wheel on my luggage repaired for me! The hotel also arranged an excellent tour for me with one of the best guides I have ever had. She made my day in Xi'an very special! The hotel also has great restaurants and an extremely courteous staff!
Excellent for a one night stopover.
I checked in one evening on a flight from Shenzhen. And I checked out early the next morning to catch a flight to Tianshui. I had to stay in the hotel all evening to attend to various chores using my laptop. The hotel perfectly suited my utilitarian needs. I can't tell you anything about the area surrounding the hotel.
Hotel in the city
thought this hotel was in a quiet oasis it's actually in the city, around very big buildngs
The best hotel ANYWHERE!
What can I say about my favorite Hotel? Not just in Xi'an, or China, but anywhere I've ever traveled! Great rooms- large, clean, comfortable, the best and most sincere staff you can find, and their breakfast buffet? - The best ever! I will stay no other place in Xi'an!
Rough around the edges still
Staggering incompetence at check-out. She tried to charge me for the prepaid room. Until a senior person corrected her. But then, even printing the bill took a good 10 minutes. Also, totally untrained wait staff. Never cleared the plates at breakfast -- just kept piling up on the table. Otherwise, fine! Great room. Pockets of good service.
The staff was friendly and exceptional helpful. Try to have the name of the hotel written in Chinese or at least have the phone number of the hotel when you first arrive so the taxis driver will know where to go. Ours had to call the Shangri-La.
Nice business class hotel near metro, restaurants
Pleasant stay would stay there again. The area is definitely made for visitors. The Quay is filled with restaurants, but more of a chain/Disney feel that an organic district. Hotel was pleasant and clean. Some construction being done, but not too much of an impact on the stay.
The day I become President (staying in a President
Wonderful experience
We spent 2 nights at the Shangri-La, and because we were on a quick tour we really just slept and had breakfast. Check in was smooth, room was clean and beds comfortable, good bathroom amenities. Their buffet breakfast is impressive in its variety, Chinese, Japanese, and Continental spreads. Staff polite and friendly.
Shnagrila Xian the best
It was the best accommodation we had for our entire trip.. Beautiful, clean hotel that smells divine.. The staff is very friendly and Anthony Zhang at concierge would always go the extra mile when assisting us. He just made our stay more memorable
The place to stay in Xi'an
One of the best hotels I have stayed in. Staff were amazingly helpfull.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Shangri-La in Xian. The hotel was great and the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.
Great Hotel, but location not very convenient
This is a great hotel with clean and upscale rooms. I was especially impressed by the friendliness of the hotel staff, who are also very helpful. I would have given the hotel a 5-star if it was not for its location. The hotel is located in a generic Chinese neighborhood, which is kind of dull and gray for an American's eyes. Also, you have to take a taxi to go anywhere because it is not on a subway line. Taxis can be hard to get, even with the help of the hotel staff. The real trouble is coming back to the hotel, when it could really be hard to get a taxi.
Been there 2 times. Great hotel, good service, very clean and well maintained, good food. Only negative side is the price. Would go there again.
Very nice only issue is the price of breakfast is out of line
Xian Holiday
Well looked after and up to standard you expect from Shangri La
Beautifully appointed hotel outside the city walls
Excellent service and restaurant. Very comfortable rooms and bar. It is not near the metro so taxis are a must but they are very cheap. It happened to be my birthday when there and they gave me a delicious cake. You are allocated special staff to look after you as a foreigner and they will do anything to make you happy.
Best hotel in ALL of China!
This has to be the best hotel in ALL of China, if not in every place I've ever visited! Will return again and again! Pros: Great location Very, very attentive and well trained staff. Great breakfast buffet and restaurant Beautiful facility I might also mention that I had a medical concern while I was there. The manager overheard the conversation, called the hotel Doctor immediately and had her personally escort me to the hospital, and through the "system". What could have taken all day, took only a couple of hours. When I returned I found a personal note in our room from the manager-if he could be of any further assistance, a selection of fruit laid out for us, and a small stuffed animal on my daughter's bed. Who does that now adays? This is a great hotel and a dependable, consistent hotel chain in China!
The Best of the best
In my opinion it is very hard to beat this hotel, great service, lovely rooms, great restaurant.
Luxury hotel with high service levels
We used the hotel for a weekend base, from which to visit the terracotta warriers & the old walled city. We arranged airport transfers via the hotel & these were perfectly organised, including immediate check in from our room. We stayed in an Horizon club room & I would recommend this, as it gives access to the club lounge for complimentary breakfast & various food & drink offerings. The complimentary, pre-dinner alcohol & food options, especially, add value. The room was good & included a desk & sofa area, in addition to the bed & bathroom. The room was on a high level, overlooking the road, with no traffic noise. We arranged the terracotta warrier tour through the hotel & that was efficiently arranged. In fact, anything involving the concierge worked very smoothly, with little. We visited the old walled city independently, which can be reached by a long walk ( around 1 hour) or inexpensive taxi ride ( a few US dollars equivalent). There were a few restaurants in the hotel. We had dinner in the Thai & would recommend it.
Excellent service at the hotel.
Customer relationship managers made the stay memorable.
Almost perfect
Huge bed. Incredible breakfast. Excellent staff.
Relaxing oasis in Xi'an
Located between the old city and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda area, the Shangri La provided a quiet, relaxing break from the traffic and crowds. The rooms were large and clean, with very comfortable beds and every modern amenity. CUstomer service was outstanding; a special recognition to Yo-Yo for her friendly greeting and radient smile.
Lovely!
In our family experience a stay at a Shangri-La Hotel is always one of high-end comfort, cleanliness and terrific service. We had booked a non-smoking room, but it wasn't ready yet, so we were offered an upgraded room on a smoking floor. The room was very clean and fresh so we said yes, but hadn't realized how much smoke would seep in under our door during the evening when the smoking guests returned to their rooms. The staff found us an air-purifier ionizer for our room's foyer which was a big help. The staff were also very helpful with directions and transportation tips.
Hotel stay
Excellent hotel with great choice of food. All the staff spoke excellent English. Would highly recommend to anyone. A perfect stay.
Shangri-la not perfect
The service and conditions at this hotel are very nice. But our room smelled like a wet dog. We asked for an air freshener and were provided with an electric air purifier, which seemed to help. But after a few hours, while we were out having a drink, they took it away again. Apparently other guests requested it too.
Nice Hotel
We were only there for a short while but the hotel is very nice. The concierge was extremely helpful and went out of their way to make us comfortable as well as book cars for us. The buffet was nice as well - Jason who was busing tables was very nice. Overall pleasant stay and great staff. I cant speak much to the surrounding area because we were only there for one night.
Xi'an stay
Our family of 3 had first-class treatment from the moment we checked in (served refreshing fresh squeezed orange juice) until we checked out. All staff interactions were wonderful and the beds were wonderful
Fantastic Service
This hotel is great, the stuff are wonderful. Meets the expectations of a real 5 stars.
great chinese hospitality
This is a fantastic hotel! Horizon Club Amenties were very helpful. Airport transfer was excellent as was day tour orgsnised by hotel. This hotel feels a little far from tourist spots and it can be an issue sometimes with regards to catching a taxi back home. But we ended up being fine with taxis. I woukd definitely recommend this hotel to older customers!
When Only The Best Will Do
Everything in the Shangrila Xi'an reeks of quality. To my mind the best hotel chain in China.
Good but room to improve
Not many restaurant around hotel. Need to walk quite a distance. Rooms quite small compared to other hotels at this price. Service was good but Chinese restaurant was very slow in delivering dim sum. Took a long time for simple dishes and some food was not delivered. A lot of waitress but none if them really bothered to get our food. Other tables were served first even when they arrived later. Was a bit annoying for my family. I have stayed at other Shangrilas. This one not as good somehow.
Wonderful Stay
We had a fantastic stay at the Shangri La. The bed was extremely comfortable, the lounges were warm and friendly, but the highly is the gym and spa.
Terricot Warrior and more
The hotel does not accept shuttle bus service and tour companies. As a result, one has to either chose a taxi or the hotel cars which are both very expensive. The location is not convenient for shopping as it is located in a secluded area. The room is small and many bathroom necessities, i.e. hair dryer are missing. I would not recommed this hotel for sightseers.
An update over my last review- thumbs up!
I've stayed before, and gave this hotel a "so-so" rating, but now things have changed......great service, great room, great hotel breakfast (exceptionally good). I couldn't have been more pleased with our visit here. The only thing I wish is that I'd gotten the name of the girl that helped with checking us in and out- she was wonderful, all were good here, but she really stood out!
NOT a way to keep/delight their own club members!
Very poor customer service for a Shangri-La Club member - desired to stay an additional night during a low period (no conferences, no special events) and hotel would not honor reserved rate - insistent on charging more "just because they can" - this is a dreadful approach to customer and consumer loyalty.
Professional but impersonal
If you want to feel "at home" this is not the hotel for you. The girl at the check-in at the Horizon Club was unfriendly. She is definitely not the right person for the job. The hotel uses old technology push-in key card. After checking into room, we went to a beautiful dinner in the cafe. The staff here are VERY friendly and courteous. After eating Chinese for 2 weeks my husband and I opted for Western dinners. I ordered a chocolate cake for dessert. The waitress returned and apologized that the dessert was not available because they had no toffee topping. Twenty minutes later, she returned with not only 1 but 2 freshly cooked chocolate cakes (tasted great without topping) and 2 fruit platters.....AND no charge to the account..now that's service! Overall this hotel is very beautiful and still worth the stay. Like other reviews it is out of the tourist district, but good access to the airport. It also has a great French Patisserie (located adjacent to hotel 2 blocks facing outward from Shangri-la) that also makes coffee with "real" cows milk. Make sure you grab a copy of the map from your room.
Five star hotel and five star service
This is a first class hotel. Excellent service, food and quality.
The Best in Xi'an
The Shangri-la is pretty well situated, although you will have to take a taxi if you want to go sight-seeing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with gigantic bathrooms. The food is pretty good, nothing special, but tasty. The staff is very attentive and overall, I would recommend this hotel.
Good Hotel For Business / Some Problems Though
A pretty decent hotel for business in a good location. However, I booked a King non-smoking ( had concierge at previous Shangri-La I was staying at in Manilla call ahead to reconfirm this) Upon arrival, receptionist gave me a "non-smoking king". The room was actually a smoking room that smelled heavily of cigarettes. When I complained they switched me to another smoking room. After the second one, I was told that the hotel was actually full so I was given a room with two smaller beds ( not what I reserved) and switched the next day only after persistant complaining on my part. Outside of this, I found all other services fine. The Tour to see Terra Cotta Warriors arranged by the concierge is a bit pricey but great guide and experience.
Excellent Hotel
After reading the comments on a very popular holiday review website I chose this hotel for our first visit to China. I was not disappointed, the staff, room and restaurant were excellent. The only down side was that we were only staying for two nights and we realised we should have stayed longer to enjoy a little more of Xian city.
Good hotel but dont be fooled by the "luxury package"
Booked luxury package for two nights and paid the additional charge for two nights. Luxury package offered choice of three extras: airport transport, massage or discount for dinner. I expected that for each night stay I could choose one of those three, but no, only once per stay. Next time I book one night the luxury package rate and the other night(s) the cheaper normal rate. At least they were honest at the reception when I asked for the rationale behind this: "This is better for our revenue". For the rest, good hotel with friendly personnel and good restaurants, but far from the city centre.
Excellent hotel
Registered at the "horizon floor" (executive) - very smooth. Upgraded to a Shangri-La suite. Very plush and luxurious, Horizon floor definitely recommended. Excellent breakfast variety and nice display for on evening cocktail hours. Personnel very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is outside of the city wall, which in my opinion is a plus - less traffic jam. Definitely recommended!
Like watching the Three Stooges
Ok, let's start with he Pros: Great location Beautiful lobby and lounge area, decent restaurant Clean, beautiful rooms (but a little small) Now, the Cons: A little pricey for what you get Now, my favorite thing to talk about- the service- from the getting in and out of the taxis, to check-in and out, to getting information from the concierge, it was like watching the Three Stooges work- everybody was falling over each other to serve you , and no one could do it right- it took three people to check me in (most here had a poor grasp of English), they quoted me incorrect pricing for things I needed, I asked a question of the concierge, and immediately three guys rushed to answer it (took forever to get an answer from them), AND I ended up at the wrong place. The most frustrating was getting in and out of taxis- I only need 1 (if any) people to open the door for me, but no, I get three to four- pushing and getting in each others way, and most of all- IN MY WAY! I finally had to stop each time and asked to be left alone (which they also had to be told three or four times to get out of my way). Nice new looking hotel, but so frustrating, I will stay at the other Shangri-la in Xian any time, but not this one ever again!
Friendly staff and lovely hotel
We would definitely recommend this hotel and suggest taking their private tour to Xi'An. The guide was just lovely and spoke English so well.
Great Value Hotel
Hotel was best I stayed in in China and also chepaest possibly because in Xi'an while others were Beijing and Shanghai. Everything was excellent except the coffee, although the location, well out of town, is not ideal for the tourist.
A very nice stay.
