hotel was basic,
hotel is located down a back street, near the market which has a lot to explore but at times you will be approached to buy their goods by street sellers who hard sale you to buying. The hotel is basic, bed and breakfast ,no TV, or mini bar but was clean, room was dark due to location.however the staff were polite and manager was eager to please which i could not fault.
Great Riad close to Jemaa el-Fna
Had a really good stay at Raid Marrakiss last week. The location of the Riad is excellent! You will be in Jemaa el-Fna in a short 3 minute walk. I looked at other properties that were further away, and I'm really glad that I stayed here due to the close proximity to the square, and plentiful restaurants in the area. Josef and his staff were most accommodating, questions answered, tips etc. The area around the Riad is safe, the alleyway to the Riad is dark, but never felt uncomfortable walking solo at night. Do watch for a pack of young boys that wanted their photo taken, and could have been pick-pockets. Just give a firm NO, and keep walking. Although it woke you up at 0616, the call to prayer was really interesting to hear!
Unbeatable central Small Riad.
Yards from the Souk, but a peaceful haven. Good in all ways. Staff very good. If you want to be close to the busy street life, but peaceful at night,,,,,, don't forget you will be called to prayers anywhere in the centre of the City, but you will get used to it, and quickly drop back to sleep.
Perfect Riad in Marrakech
After my third trip in three years, I still want to go back again!! Marrakech is a special magical place and should be seen and experienced by everyone. Every corner turned, especially in the souks, brings a new exciting happening. From snake charmers to street acrobats to story tellers to street food to constant bartering to freshly squeezed fruit juices - there are surprises all around.
Nice hotel,
Friendly and helpful staff . A great experience . In house dinner was good and the dining setting was lovely.
Simple, traditional riad in great location
Perfect location in the medina, right next to the main square
In the heart of the Market
I did not like the fact that Ihad to walk down a dark alley to get to the Hotel. The beds were very hard The wifi did not work in the bedrooms No TV The breakfast was just hard bread and jam with triangle cheese and Mint tea The only good thing was the guys had nice smiles and they tried their best to please.
Very pleasant stay
Stayed for 5 days in this small intimate and very quiet Riad, just 7 rooms. For couples 1,5,6,7 are the best, 3 is the least desirable. Staff is very friendly, helpful and available 24 hours. Breakfasts were ample and good. Like all Riads, there is a nice terasse. Clean, towels were changed daily. I would return
Lovely Riad right in the beating heart of Marakech
A peaceful idyll inside but just a few minutes from the souks & square. Comfortable ,cool rooms & courtyard, pretty sun terraces with views of the city & distant mountains. Wifi best in the courtyard (with free mint tea!). Aziz & Az-eddine couldn't have been more friendly ,helpful or courteous. A breakfast of pancake, apricot jam, bread & cheese, orange juice, tea or coffee served promptly on arrival in dining room & was offered early on day of trip & early departure. I was delighted to have room 5 which has a little sun terrace just outside. Tip- you will need to use the shower hose for hot water in the basin & take your own plug. Aziz has a hairdryer you can borrow.
Small, peaceful inn near main square.
Staff were very helpful. Comfortable rooms; a relaxing place near the maelstrom of Jemaa el fna. Booked for five days, but ended up staying for eight! Ryanair cancelled the return flight ! So we are still in Marrakech!
Good hotel very close to main square
We were a family of 5, our children are in their 20's. The hotel suited us perfectly being so close to the main action. Ali was very helpful and organised for a taxi to and from the airport.
Clean, peaceful, relaxing.
Lovely riad right by the main square in the Medina. lovely cosy room, clean, with hot water, en suite, comfy bed and a safe and air con in the room. Very peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast was bread, jam butter, pancakes, coffee/tea and orange juice. Very good for our price range and the location is brilliant, as it is very quiet once inside the riad, you cannot hear any noise from the main square. Staff were friendly and helpful. We went as a couple and were given plenty of freedom, no questions asked and a key to the main door so we had access at all times.
great location
Riad is clean friendly staff very quite for location, as it is 5 mins walk from main square el fna and the souks. do except to be woken at 5.30 am for the call to prayer. taxis cannot go up street you will have to walk from square and more than likely have someone show where to go for a small price of course.
Traditional Riad close to the square
Very short walk from the central square; very helpful hotel staff. Got very good deals for excursions with help from the reception staff. Hotel is in an old traditional Riad, with rooms of relatively small size, reasonably clean. Wifi only works within 10-15 yards of reception.
Hidden gem
the Riad was hidden away down an alley way which took us a while to find. I would recommend printing a more detailed map than the hotel provides as we ended up asking several people until a guy led us there and then asked for money. The Riad itself was lovely! Very friendly staff who greeted us with some Moroccan tea before showing us our room. The room was very basic but clean and had heating/air con. The shower wasn't fixed onto the wall properly but it was a big shower and hot so we didn't mind. The Riad had a really nice roof terrace where you can go and relax, even in January it was really warm up there and nice and quiet. All in all it was a very good place to stay in the heart of Marrakech. I would recommend anyone to stay there!
Great hospitality, lovely staff. Helped us out with info, breakfast was always waiting for us and rooms tidied every morning.
Lovely Riad in an excellent location
We loved our stay here. The location was fantastic - less than a 5 minute walk to the main Jemaa el Fna square. We loved the roof terrace - excellent views and surprisingly peaceful! Our room was comfortable and clean (don't expect a lot of space though) and all the facilities worked well. The staff were very friendly & spoke pretty good English too. Breakfast was simple but quite filling. This isn't a huge Riad & doesn't have a restaurant or Hammam on site but this really wasn't necessary as it is so close to the main square. We would recommend to look it up on a map before arrival as it could be hard - the locals will help but will expect a fee! Overall a really great place & we would definitely come back.
Friendly little Riad near main square.
Good Riad within 5 minutes of main square. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend booking pick up from airport with Riad in advance as it is quite tricky to find the first time.
Lovely Riad, very close to the main square
The Riad staff were very friendly and very accommodating. The Riad was right in the heart of the Medina area with all the souks within a few minutes walk. Also within walking distance to many of the sights, Koutoubia Mosque and gardens, the Cyber Park, Saadien Tombs and several Palaces plus a whole lot more. A great stay. Thank you Riad Marrakiss!
Good location
Very good location but facilities aren't very good, for example heater wasn't working properly.
Tranquility amidst chaos!
We chose the accommodation for its central location based on the excellent reviews and were not disappointed. The room was small and basic but after one week became cosy. Breakfast was simple and sufficient. Easy access to the a Souks and all of the tourist attractions. If returning to Marrakech we would not hesitate to stay there again.
Great little Riad
Great place to stay and enjoy the best of Marrakech. Friendly staff and very helpful.
Pretty riad in the heart of the Medina
Lovely traditional riad located in the heart of the medina. Beautifully decorated with Morrocan decor. It's located down a little alleyway off one of the souks. It was so much nicer to be in the heart of it than in some commercialised hotel that could be anywhere, amazingly quiet when the souks can be crazy and hectic. They welcomed us with mint tea. We struggled a bit with communicating in English as they speak French but we made ourselves understood. There is free wifi but mainly on the ground floor. Breakfast was crepes in syrup, orange juice, mint tea, jam, bread and coffee. Bonus of aircon in the rooms! Would have been uncomfortable without! Great little spot.
Minutes from the jeema el fan place and souks.
You live in the souks. Best way to enjoy your stay in Marrakech. Rooms are nice and clean. Not a 5 stars either but yet very good service.
Small Room for a Family
A very nice Riad in a location very close to the Djemaa el Fna, but the room was unfortunately too small (& without a window) for a family of four (2 adults & 2 children). Otherwise, very friendly & helpful staff.
Nice, clean riad right in the heart of Marrakech.
This was our first trip to Marrakech, and it was certainly a memorable one. Upon arrival at the airport, we found out there was a miscommunication which led to a lack of airport shuttle. This was quickly remedied though after a quick call to the riad, and we were soon on our way. The riad is in a perfect place, I cannot stress that enough, right in the city centre, perfect for a city break, it's not for a relaxing holiday! It's a clean place, with good friendly staff who always attend to any requests. The breakfast is good, and provided decent moroccan coffee as well as authentic street food. The riad had a lovely open roof, with sunbeds (which could benefit from a little clean) which meant you could just roast away in the burning sun. All in all, definitely a riad I would recommend. The riad is situated in a quiet alleyway, just off the central square, which meant you weren't bothered by the loudness of the market! Now, the markets have an average pace of a million miles an hour. Everything is fast paced, and you are constantly asked to view the markets goods, which you never pay full price for. Just say your price, if they refuse, walk away, and they'll call you back and agree to it! Local food is good, one restaurant I would recommend is Chez Brahim, which provides fantastic food for a great price. With regards to locals and staring at women who were dressed for the sun, we didn't experience any hostility! A trip we'd do again!
Friendly Staff
First time in Marrakech and found that a week was too long as there is not a lot to see or do in Marrakech
Great budget riad in the heart of the Medina
Really recommend this Riad. Good price, it is really located in the heart of the Medina which is what you want if you want a truly Marrakeshy experience. The staff were always very helpful and nice. Rooms were impeccable. Just a few things to bear in mind: they don't provide soap so bring your own (I personally don't carry soap when flying on a budget airline, but this wasn't a problem for us as we bought some around). Also we were told by several local people that the food found in restaurants and the main square lacks spices and is very tasteless compared to home made meals. So we were told to eat in the Riad for a better experience, but this Riad as is small doesn't have a restaurant. Again this wasn't a problem for us because although we were disappointing at first that we were going to miss out in nice Moroccan food it turned out we were out most of the time and far from the hotel at dinner time so ended up eating outside (there are plenty of places to eat as you would imagine).
Nice Riad Close to main square
Nice, clean Riad 2 minutes walk from the main square. Nothing fancy but great value for money, lovely rooftop terrace and great friendly staff, nothing was to much trouble for them. Riad Marrakiss was well presented.
A great little backstreet Riad
We stayed in central Marrakech for two nights. This riad is perfectly placed off the central square (about 5 mins) and is seconds away from the souks. Given the proximity to the hustle and bustle of the city, the riad is really quiet and relaxing. There is also a great roof terrace from which you can see over most of the city. Our room was lovely, with stained glass windows and a wonderfully roomy shower. My only personal issue was how firm the bed was, but I like a really soft mattress normally. Breakfast was basic, but good and the perfect start for a day exploring the city.
Best little Riad in Marrakech
This is the third time I have stayed here at Riad Marrakiss. For closeness to everything that Jemma El Fna has to throw at you - stalls, souks, story tellers, acrobats, snake charmers, restaurants and mint teas. It is an excellent place to get your barings ( sometimes tricky in Medina) and is only a walk away from most of the museums and tourist sights. Wonderful - will go again.
Good Riad..Near to centre. GOOD Value.
For Riad, think a guest house and this one has 5 or 6 rooms. It is WELL WORTH THE MONEY and the staff are very helpful ( try and speak French, however little you know and this will go a long way ANYWHERE in Marrakech). The Manager (Jonas) was very helpful to me and the other members of staff the same...school boy French got me through. The breakfasts were 'Hearty', large bun and cheese, orange juice, honey crepe, jam and a mint tea ( my choice). It was hearty fair and kept me going through the morning. Almost anywhere in Marrakech you will hear the call to prayers ( especially Friday ) take this as a part of the experience ! The bed was clean, good (firm) and I slept like a log. Ask Jonas for help in locating places and eating out, he recommended a great place to me and so cheap, I avoided eating on the stalls in the square, but the food in the place he recommended, was good ( Lamb Tangine), also ask about taxis, back to airport, when you get there. He was always helpful, even if he was working.
Ok for a Riad
The welcome is warm and friendly but it stops there. There is often no one around. The hot water is hit and miss and the noise of the boys that gather outside of the riad at night is overwhelming. The room is cold and I would have asked for a blanket if I had seen anyone to ask. It is my opinion that the riad stay is over-rated but do it once and for one night to experience the medina OR stay at the Ibis which is one the edge of the medina and cheaper than this place.
Very close to the square but still peaceful
I would recommend this Riad to anyone, its a 2 minute walk to the main square yet once inside the Riad its lovely and quiet. The rooms are clean and the staff are very helpful. On our last day our flight was not until the evening, but we were allowed to come and go and use the facilities throughout the day. The rooftop terrace is a great suncatcher! I would stay here again.
Great Riad in the heart of everything
Lovely Riad, tucked up a quiet side street off the main square. From the rooftop outside space you wouldn't believe you are in central Marrakech, it is so quiet. Lovely owner Josef (thank goodness he came to meet us in the square to find our way to the hotel for the first time). Nice simple but filling breakfast. All in all a great trip! I will be back!
Perfect location & really pretty
This riad is beautifully decorated, perfect location just near the main square and has a lovely roof terrace. The room was v comfortable with a heater, powerful shower, nice beds. Only minus points were the breakfast which was unsubstantial. Also wifi only works on the ground floor. I definitely recommend this place to stay!
A great location amidst the busy colourful town
Really nice, quiet hotel with character. Beds a bit on the hard side. Very nice roof top terrace.
good riad in the heart of the medina.
We enjoyed our time at the marrakiss largely because of its great location, also the rooftop terrace has nice views and the staff were friendly. That said we were cold at night due to lack of heating, the shower light didn't work, hot water is sketchy and wifi only works in the courtyard. But you get what you pay for! I would recommend this place if you want a riad experience for a few nights close to all the action.
Atmospheric and Hidden
I loved this Riad. It's 30 seconds from a bustling, pedestrian street, 2 minutes from the Djeema el-Fna but once inside it's so quiet and peaceful. It's also on one of the very few streets with an actual street sign at the entrance, so easier to find than I expected. Breakfast is the same every day, but who doesn't like pancakes, bread, cheese and jam? The only downside some might find is that the owner/receptionist is quite taciturn. Not rude, I don't think, just very quiet. On the whole, a great place and a great price!
No internet in rooms despite description in hotels.com listing. very basic, and can be very loud in your room.
Good location
Good location around the corner from the square. Hard to find at first especially at night in the dark. Could be scary if you travel alone as it is up an alley which is quiet. The owner was very helpful.
Great for couples / friends
This riad is in a great location. Close enough to get to everything quickly and easily but far enough away that you don't get any noise (other than the calls to prayer several times a day). The breakfast wasn't fantastic but your not going there for a good breakfast so it didn't bother us. I personally didn't find the manager super-friendly but he did help a couple of times with booking taxi's.
A Classic Riad experience in the Medina
A classic 7 room Morrocan Riad, located close to the Place de Jamaa El Fna and within easy walking distance of the Souks. Josef is the manager, a gentle trustworthy individual who will take care of you. The rooms are small, clean, with ensuite shower/wc, good a/c, in-room safe. Breakfast is simple fare but tasty. The beds were hard, but my wife and I slept well at the end of each full day sight-seeing. You may be disturbed by early morning prayers broadcast from the many mosques, all the city Riads are affected and part of the old city's charm. We stayed three nights at Riad Marakiss and we plan to return in the near future. Arrange the taxi pickup at the airport through Josef to ensure a hassle free trip to the door of the hotel.
Great riad only minutes walk from the main square
Great little riad, we found it easily from the main square down a covered alley, directions from the website were easy to follow. Our room was very clean with a cute little en-suite, all in traditionbal marrakesh style. The bed was quite hard but we slept very well non the less! Air conditioning was very good and needed as the night temperature was still in the high twenties in September. The rooftop terrace was a godsend and I spent a couple of hours catching the rays each afternoon, lovely loungers and tables and chairs available. Breakfast was adequate with bread, jam or cheese, fresh orange juice and mint tea(yummy) or coffee, served in the enclosed courtyard with the sun shining down. The staff were very heplfull and even arranged a hamman for me, offering a tourist or a traditional one (undertaken at the local baths..females only..where I joined local women and got scrubbed, buffed and massaged!) This is a very clean and well maintained riad, within easy walking distance of the square, I would reccomend it if you enjoy getting up close and personal with the locals.
Great location
My wife and I spent five days at the Marrakiss. Great location within a 5 minute walk of the markets and restaurants. WiFi available at a reasonable speed. Air conditioned. Lovely decore. Simple but clean. Joseph and his staff were very helpful. Definitely stay there are again.
close to Djemma el fna
This is centrally located in the Medina but please remember that there are no Tea ,coffee facilities in the hotel, although a bread,Jam ,butter ,tea and juice breakfast is served. No other meals are available in the Hotel. There are no fridges in the room- to keep your water cool - essential in the climate and no TV or radio or Phone. You get what you pay for.
Riad Marrakiss
Peaceful, relaxing, great location, very close to the main square but hardly any noise, very friendly and helpful staff Would definitely recommend!
Very Accommodating.
The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The rooms were clean each day. Our room was a little dark, only having a window in the door, but most rooms are pleasant. There are two outdoor terraces overlooking the city. The main square is very near by (2-5 minutes walk depending on the street crowds). Overall it was a very good experience in a very good location.
Great Marrakesh experience
Great central location with friendly staff, overall left with a great impression.
A well decorated Riad. Very clean. Great location in Medina. I felt safe and confortible to stay in the Riad. Breakfast is good. Strongly recommended!
Superplus: Die Sonnenterrasse!!
Wunderschöner Riad in ruhiger, zentraler Lage
Direkt im Zentrum gelegen, trotzdem total ruhig, sehr nettes Personal, liebevoll gestalteter Riad. Optimal !!!
Great location in the Medina. Very easy to find and a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle of the local area. The staff were superb and the owner even slept in the property on our last night in order to make us breakfast earlier than usual because we had to leave early. Our only hiccup was the fact we ordered 4xTwin rooms and the property didn't cater for this despite me receiving confirmation (was this Hotels.com fault??). Not ideal for 8 lads when two of the rooms are doubles but they found an extra bed and we just about managed!! Nice rooms if a little dark but a very authentic riad.
