Good breakfast option-a bit heavy on meat and cheese but that fits with other experiences in the Netherlands. That said, the offerings were good, including croissants (so much better than in the US).
Above expectations
A great 3-stars hotel! I didn't try the breakfast. Very nice neighborhood. comfortable and clean room, with large bathroom.
I gave this a low rating because there were lots of mosquitoes. Its not the hotels fault, i left the window open. However they were aware of the mosquitoes as other reviews say, and if they were aware they could have warned us. Floor and skirting a bit dirty, room had cobwebs and dust on the walls above the bed. Staff were friendly, location is beautiful. could just be a bit cleaner and it would be great
Great hotel centrally located. Very friendly and helpful staff who quickly supplied a fan and let us move rooms when it got too warm. I’d happily stay again!
This was so convenient for a walker to the city and major highlights in the city
Good for the price
Very small room
I stayed in room 46, I was literally the size of a cupboard.
Great hotel for the price
Sweet hotel in a great location
Lovely staff and great location.
Nice people. Room very cramped and stained carpets. Elevator smelled like mildew. Apparently closing for major renovations soon and won't spend any money. Sad, as this wasn't cheap!
We stayed at the Prinsen for 3 nights. Even though the bedroom was very small, it was functional and clean. The staff were lovely. The location was superb! Would definitely stay here again
No air conditioning and no room cleaning or tidying. Definitely mot good value for money. On top of it very poor lighting in the room . One can hardly find things let alone read.
Quaint older hotel that felt like I was in Amsterdam. Desk clerks were very helpful. Great location.
Breakfast was a bit sparse for us as Americans. Staff was very nice and helpful.
Awesome staff and the hotel location is convenient to all museums
Bon service, hôtel propre, bien situés
Twelve minutes by tram to centraal station. Quiet location, zero canal views. Staff great! Would stay here again.
Me encantó me quedé con mi novio 3 días céntrico con desayuno incluido muy bueno
The room was small, not even enough to open my luggage bag easily. The staff at the reception when I checked in was somewhat rude. Location was great but other than that no reason to stay here again.
Perfect hotel for a group of friends to use as a base when exploring Amsterdam! Super convenient location near the centre of town, very friendly staff, would highly recommend 😁
Really good location
I had trouble getting WiFi
Location was convenient for public transport. Cleanliness was ok (carpet and walls were a bit dirty to me). Very nice staff. Overall a decent hotel in Amsterdam, you get what you pay. Travelled as a couple.
Decent hotel for the price and location, some more attention to detail with cleanliness would not go amiss.
Good location but the hotel itself is quite dated. Small, stuffy room. Linens not too clean. Lousy breakfast. Staff was very nice. Not a good value for price paid.
Very nice location of the hotel, in the city center, however it was in a street that was not very busy so perfect to rest since there is not much noise. Friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast.
Perfect. Highly recommend.
Great location - very close to multiple tram/bus stations. Very easy walk to numerous clubs/cafes/restaurants and stores (including a grocery store). Quiet and safe little neighbourhood despite being so close to a bustling part of the city. Safe is super friendly and helpful. My room (solo traveller) was EXTREMELY small - however immaculately clean and comfortable. If I ever came back to Amsterdam, I would absolutely stay here again.
Very basic room.. No AC, no mini bar in the room.. better go to a hostel, most probably they will have more amenities.
Good option
Good place to stay. A little pricy for the closet room, but great location and helpful staff. Relaxing courtyard with a cold heineken!
Disappointing
We had 3 rooms. There were mosquitos in 2 rooms and 4 of us got properly bitten on both nights. There’s no aircon which made the nights very humid and uncomfortable. The fans provided just moved hot air around the room. Smelt of cigarette smoke. The bathrooms were very old and no shower cubicle, just a shower curtain which made the very small bathroom floor wet. Had to sit on the toilet sideways as the wall in front left no room. However the staff were friendly but that didn’t help with our rooms.

We loved the location of this hotel. Unfortunately our room was so hot and it made for comfortable sleeping almost impossible. If we open the window there was little air flow and the street noise made it even more difficult to sleep. Oh well, we still loved our trip. But a small air conditioner would be ideal and the noise would help with the street noise.
Great location. Better use of space in room for clothes needed. A small kettle at least would have made my stay more comfortable otherwise clean comfortable compact.
The staff is very friendly, place is quiet and clean. Room size is good
A pleasant, walkable space with affable staff! If I could offer suggestions for improvement, our room was very warm without the window open and we were surprised our bathroom door could not be shut due to being oversized. Overall a pleasant stay!
Excellent service, airy room, convenient to museums and old Amsterdam
Close enough yet far enough from the vibrant city. Important museums short walk. Very small room but I expected that in an old city hotel. Great stay and manager was very friendly and helpful.
This hotel affords easy access to all the sites in Amsterdam. I could not have found a more affordable hotel for its location. I most definitely recommend a stay here.
Great area!!
Very nice hotel..staff friendly...nice quiet area but close to everything.room a little small but not a problem and would have liked coffee facility in room other than that well worth a stay.
Liked convenience. Excellent breakfast. Alarms going off and being able to hear other guests was annoying,
Private bathroom.
Clean, friendly and well located :)
Easy and friendly check-in. The room was clean, they gave me a room with a balcony and view which was a bonus and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend for a budget and well located hotel.
I visit Amsterdam often and my usual Hotel was booked up! This was excellent discovery and enjoyed 6 days here. Room was 1st floor with balcony was small, clean and comfortable. Everything is walking distance. Staff Professional and friendly. I recommend this hotel for alone or adult travelers.
Not a bad place for a short trip ageing property but liveable
Comfortable and Well-Situated
Second time at the Prinsen Hotel and would definitely recommend to other travelers. Just outside of the busy Leidsplein area, the surroundings are quiet and low-key. The day/night and housekeeping staff are very friendly and helpful. The room is clean and, while small, contains everything you need to be comfortable. The outdoor seating area is very appreciated. I will definitely consider this hotel again when visiting the area.
Location was excellent, could walk to virtually all the sights, and also close to Vondelpark. Buffet breakfast also very appealing, albeit a bit of a lottery as to whether a table was available when we went. Reception and breakfast staff were charming and helpful. Our room was nice enough for us, though some might have found it small.
Good location, but beware of room size.
The hotel was tidy and it is very close to major attractions in the city of Amsterdam. The breakfast was reasonable too. However, my only complain was that I was given a very, very small room, about the size of two single beds. I was surprised that the charge of this room is the same as my friend, who had a room twice the size. I think the hotel should be fair and charge less for an attic room.
The Good The Bad And The Ugly .
The Hotel staff are nice and helpful. No drinks at the bar it was closed and no draft beer we went down the road to the Marriot. We had room 17 which is far too small for 2 people as one has to climb over the other to get out of bed and the sink is in the bedroom . Def not worth what it cost us. The room is very hot at night ( without the heating on ) so we had the window ajar but the noisy drunks wake you up outside coming back from clubbing between 3 and 5 .30 am . Next time get a room at the back of the hotel .Breakfast is not great either !The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean and nice cotton. PS no kettle in the room. Sorry I will not be back !
Good location, Overpriced what you get No air conditioning No free breakfast ( as advertised) Wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Sadly my room was extremely small and extremely hot… at least 6degrees C hotter than the outside. No fan was provided. So overall the room was not comfortable. The toilet was very difficult to use due to the lack of space. My room was made up, bathroom supplies replaced but bed was not made which I found strange. Breakfast was okay just toast, pastries… some eggs or bacon would’ve been nice. Enjoyed the cat.
Great Location! Lovely Garden & Helpful Staff
We had a lovely stay at Prinsen Hotel - just a quick walk from Leidseplein, it's in the perfect location for a short trip to Amsterdam. We were pleased with the room's cleanliness and amenities. The quiet, peaceful garden out back was a surprise and a beautiful place to spend a little downtime, and is smoker-friendly. We had to extend our stay by one night due to flight delays and were thankful to be offered the same room to keep things easy. Front desk staff were always polite and very helpful. I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend the hotel to a friend. Great stay!
Most annoying, unpleasant, and disrespectful
This was absolutely the most annoying, unpleasant, and disrespectful experiences I've ever had regarding a Hotel! I'm in general super easy going and optimist about businesses and usually try to understand that some mistakes might happen and you shouldn't be too much picky all the times! But this one was mind blowing! You won't believe it! There is a middle age man who called himself the owner of the hotel, he is really impolite, inconsiderate, selfish guy! He behaves to the guests like his employees and as he said himself it's not his priority at all to make sure you enjoy your trip! Trust me and avoid spending your money staying here! I made this mistake that I didn't read Google reviews before booking but after reading I realized my story is not the only example and other people had similar problems with the same guy! So decided to write it here! If you are curious about the details, they told us the first day that the house keeping happens between 12-15 everyday. So one day that we had a packed plan we came back to the Hotel around 16 for a quick shower and refreshing before our next plan. But we saw they didn't came yet and we don't have any towels and stuff. So we called reception and they said they will come soon. It was totally ok and we weren't complaining and were also ok to not having the house keeping for the day at all! But this owner guy came to us and started shouting at us that it's only a 3 star hotel! What have you thought?! You paid nothing! He also said
Hope you can get a room you booked, but it's ok
Every thing was good and reception was so friendly trying to help me by introducing the city, however the only problem was that I reserved a room which was large and luminous and with a king bed and I got a little room that I couldn't sit in the toilet easily. all in all staying there was ok.
It was nice that it was close to Leidseplein. Nice cosy small hotel. Friendly Staff. I normally stay close to the central station. But staying at Prinsen Hotel gave me a new perspective on location in Amsterdam. Thanks
Good review but uncomfortable single room.
Whatever you do, don't rent the single bed on the 4th floor (the cheapest). It's the size of a closet. They can't help that but it was also rather hot when it was 14-20 C outside, and 12-16 at night. I woke up several times due to the heat and never did get refreshed. Plus they have those ghastly pillows that are hard and thick. My mom has them and we've had a dozen guests over the years refuse to use them; I don't know why anyone buys them. It is a great location, so if you're on a very limited budget, then it might have to work.
Good place to stay in Amsterdam
Get room 20 if you can, has a door to the garden, very quiet too.And very clean, good TV, you pay €10 more for breakfast. Close to Vondelpark, museums, Canal Zone ...
Conveniently located to the tram and also museums area, yet quiet since tucked away in a side street. We found the front desk staff very courteous and accommodating to our questions and requests (directions, luggage hold, transportation to the airport etc). The hotel is small but very cozy, especially the mattress. There is an elevator in the building.
Great location, comfortable room and very welcoming, helpful host.
Cheap amd cheerful
Recommended to us by a friend, very noisey, doors slam and under flight path. We were put in a room on ground floor leading to garden which mean curtains were kept shut so no one could see us and no window to open for air just a door to the garden.
The room is really small but the service was really nice. The management was friendly and helpful. The location is great; close to public transportation, restaurants and museums.
Clean, very friendly staff. Everything is small in Amsterdam, but ive been told these rooms are considered almost spacious.
Excellent location. Our room was very clean and comfortable but incredibly small and no air conditioning. The wild parrots in the garden were a lovely surprise.
Great location but small room
The hotel is in a great location a very short walk to all the fun places to eat, smoke and shop in Leidseplein and the tram stops which is why we chose it. However, our double room was so small and the bathroom tiny too. It suited us for the trip as we were out a lot but as we enter the summer days it does get quite hot. There were a few guests (or workers) that used to talk quite loudly in the corridors too and the walls are so thin that it was very disruptive so I had to get out of bed and have a go. Like with everything in the centre of Amsterdam, prices are quite expensive but maybe for this hotel, too expensive for the size of the rooms. The staff were very pleasant however and helpful and the room and bathroom were very clean which was a big plus. It also has a lovely garden that you are allowed to use up to 10pm. We would stay again but only at a more discounted rate.
Superb stay
Brilliant stay and will most definitely stay again. Only one small thing that was a tad annoying, my room was under the dinning area, very noisy at breakfast time and the preparation leading up to those times, when booking in the future would ask for a room up and out the way of the busyness.
Room was small but had everything in it we needed.

Fantastic location close to main Centre & transport & restaurants.
Enjoyed my stay. Great location. Easy walk to museums and wonderful restaurants.
Great for a stag do.....
Amazing location, clean rooms, comfy beds, hot showers, very friendly staff, nice balcony. Very noisy doors banging at all times of the day/night. Rooms are tiny, when sat on the loo my knees touched the wall. Two people cant move around the room at all.
Hotel was well located for our walking and biking excursions.
The only problem that we faced with this property was the bed, and particularly the mattress. The beds are small, for two people of 5’10” or 178 cm, we barely fit and our feet were sticking out. This was still manageable, but the mattress was something else! It’s very thick and way too soft, such that your body curves horribly on it. Its near impossible to sleep with a curved back. We had a lot of trouble sleeping and we woke up quite miserable every morning, which is the last thing you need after a long and tiring day of touring the city. Also, we had booked a double bed and were given a twin bed initially. On pointing this out, they changed us to the double bed the next day. Both the times the bed was small and the mattress unbearable. Apart from this issue everything else worked fine. Very clean hotel, well located, decent and reasonably priced breakfast, good service. I wish they would change the mattresses and get sturdier ones.
Disappointed
Room was very small - no room to put anything! Bathroom tiny and uncomfortable. Lost hot water one evening and had to put up with noise of repairs the following day. I would expect much more from a three star hotel - very disappointing!
Nice place, great location.
Friendly service. A "downstairs" room, but with big windows & surprisingly nice courtyard, i.e. not really the basement. Cool.
Nice, clean, quiet, hotel in a pleasent and convenient area. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Great location and Clean
Great location, friendly staff, very small rooms, but clean and bedding appeared new. Nice garden area in the back. Would stay here again, for the price versus the Marriott across the road, definitely worth it.
Good budget choice for a convenient location
A great location with friendly and helpful staff. Admittedly I booked the cheapest room but it really was quite small. Unfortunately it was next to the lift shaft; I'd avoid room 4 if you have a choice.
The hotel was nice and met our expectations. It was not large but had room for our luggage. The bath was clean and upgraded. The staff was helpful and friendly. Had a beautiful garden with a good view.
Great location. So so hotel
Very central and very friendly. Rooms are confortable although a little noisy on the ground floit. Very nice breakfast!
Close to the middle of everything important in walking Amsterdam
I like the location of the hotel. The only problem is the location of our room. Our room is located next to the street. You can hear people talking outside and all the noises that they make and the worst thing is whoever smoke cigarette outside, the fumes gets into the our room.
Ok room!
It was extremely nosey hotel and I did not get any sleep what so ever! I’m never going to use it again!
Would not recommend
Booked it, and once I arrived they informed me they did not have a room for me. Not only that, but they staff at the front desk were incredibly rude! Did not want to help or give me information on nearby hotels.
A good hotel but I expected more, also my room was in the level -1, so I didn’t like that, no A/C.
Relatively basic, but clean and comfortable hotel
This was a comfortable and clean hotel, in a quiet street only a few minutes walk from Leidseplein tram stop (where you could get a tram to Amsterdam central station in only 5-10 minutes). The room was very clean, there is no air conditioning but a fan was provided. There was a safe in the room, and a hairdryer. The room we stayed in had a bath and separate shower. There is no kettle in the room; coffee can be bought downstairs but is around 2.50 euros per cup. There was a good selection available at breakfast which was served until 10:00. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Communa areas very tired and need updated
Our initial room was tiny. In my opinion it was even too small for a single. It was stiffling and hotel staff could not provide a fan. We were moved the next day to a bigger room and given a fan. This room although bigger was still not large and the bathroom was tiny. Apparently our first room, number 21, was the smallest in the hotel.
Pleasant hotel, nice are.comfy bed and good WiFi. However, no tea and coffee making facilities in the room which was very disappointing and it appeared frowned on when one actually paid for a coffee downstairs and took it to your room!
Central location. Easy walking to many locations. Good breakfast and a wonderful courtyard.
Be prepared - rooms too small, no air-conditioning or air. Rooms for the younger generation, maybe, they don't expect too much. Breakfast good, location good near canals, museums, night life.
Nice hotel. Good location. Lovely staff and breakfast
Great hotel, really close to museums
This is my third stay at this hotel. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the rooms have recently had a refresh. The breakfast is excellent and the hotel is in walking distance of Museumplein. A short walk to Leidseplein gets you to the trams to get around and for the airport bus. It is also a short walk to good places to eat and to Vondelpark if you want some green space or for a jog. Definitely recommend.
Great location
Very nice hotel in great location for walking to museums and into town.
Friendly staff, small dated room
Accommodating helpful friendly staff, who also made good suggestions for a good restaurant nearby, and also the better restaurant areas. Our room was located on the top floor, there was little room around a worn, not very comfortable bed. The hotel was fully booked but staff were able to swap our room further along the hall. We were told our floor will refurbished soon.
Wonderful hotel
Wonderful hotel! Great location and the staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Nice stay
Perfect location and lovely neighborhood. Just minutes walk to Leidseplein, Vondelpark and Museumkwartier. Quite good breakfast and really good coffee. Small room but at nice rates.
Had a lovely stay , hotel was average , staff was very friendly . We had 2 single beds pushed together so would of liked a double bed , although comfy they kept pushing apart in the middle. Would of liked a cooked breakfast but continental was ok . Overall Good value for money .
Dreadful hotel
Dreadful hotel, overpriced very small and uncomfortable room. The mattress was awful.
Not a good value
This hotel is just on the edge of being seedy. The façade is a pretty - a combination of two old town houses but the interior has been gutted so that everything feels very institutionalized. The hallways are narrow, the carpets are gray and worn, the paint is chipped. The bed was clean and comfortable but the bathroom, while clean itself had odors that came up through the drains. And the towels while clean were gray and thin and worn. The breakfast spread was certainly adequate and the little breakfast room was pleasant if also a bit worn. The promo photos made a lot of a back garden but there didn't seem to be any way to get to it. The clerk insisted on full payment for the entire stay when checking in so you felt captive and couldn't move even if you didn't like it after the first day. The location was great for the museum district and the street was pretty but there was extensive reconstruction of the building across the street and work began at 6:45 am so not the quiet neighborhood we had anticipated. I am certain that there are much better three star hotels in Amsterdam for less.

Location is on a quiet street and close to public transport, museums, and central to the city. Staff was excellent.
