Decent

Overall, an ok stay at this hotel. It was centrally located - just a block away from Piazza Maggiore and the main basilica. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was uniquely decorated. The complimentary breakfast buffet was extensive and delicious. Unfortunately, the room itself was small small small small. It was barely big enough to fit a travel cot for my 3-year-old daughter. It was quiet, but we could still hear people on the street and noises from neighboring rooms. The bathroom looked old, and for a 4-star hotel, I was definitely expecting something more modern or more elegant. I'd probably stay elsewhere for my next visit to Bologna.

Phi hotel is right in the heart of the old town, within a few minutes walk to the main square. We stayed at an annexed apartment that's really spacious, with a kitchen, two bedrooms and bathrooms. The is parking for an additional fee, it's very tight and I had to be very careful to get in and out. However, a hotel staff was there to provide guidance which was a big help. We didn't need the car while we stayed at the hotel, and walked everywhere since it's so close to the old town center. I'd definitely recommend this hotel for staying in Bologna.

Great location

Excellent apartment - main bedroom and living area each had excellent A/C units. Upstairs bedroom A/C unit leaked water on the floor and could not use, Only other hiccup was the hot water supply which was plentiful when turned on from adjacent apartment unit. Was not on when we checked in and could not shower until 2 pm the next day. Then was turned off again the night before check out but got it turned on early next morning so we could shower before check out. Otherwise, an excellent bed and accommodations in the heart of the historic district.

Disappointing stay

This stay was very disappointing. I have stayed at the Phi Hotel before and its location for central Bologna is excellent. This stay I booked late, it was non refundable and very expensive - for a mediocre room. It was cold and heating could not be controlled in room - took a long time to warm up and had to contact front desk to adjust. The very large bathroom window had no blind or shutters and you could see inside from hallway approach - very exposed. Towel heater not working, came to fix then went away and didn’t return for an hour necessitating my waiting. And then it only worked for 30 minutes again having to ask front desk to switch on. It’s a 4 star hotel which should actually be 3 star with 5 star prices.

Prime location, very close to the major attractions, all the restaurants. Many many bars, shopping and more shopping.

Staff were great. Room had a strange decor… furniture was old and run down. The hotel is ideally located.

A couple of glitches...no hot water until about 2:30 next day. A/C unit in extra bedroom condensated water all over the floor. Otherwise very nice & comfortable apartment close to everything.

We had a great stay at the Phi hotel. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Giulio (I think 🤔) gave us a warm welcome, coffee while we waited and an upgraded room. Breakfast staff were friendly and hardworking. Breakfast was excellent, with a wonderful choice of local produce. The room was spacious and well equipped with comfy beds. We had a small balcony with chairs and table which would be lovely in the warmer months. The location is perfect, just off Piazza Maggiore, and lots to do and to see within a short walk. I also appreciated help from reception with printing off our boarding passes for our flight home. Bologna is a beautiful, vibrant and historic city which I hope to visit again, and I would definitely choose Phi hotel again. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.

Charming, Perfect, Impeccable!

Very charming hotel with perfect location. Warm and very helpful staff. Best breakfast spread I have ever seen. Every aspect seems impeccable and perfect. Rates are so reasonable. I would return and recommend to all.

Everything good except access by vehicle.

The stay is good. Location is great and easily accessible to the tourist attractions. Only thing for future travellers to take note is the driving to the hotel is horrendous. There was a road closure for a particular road and we are not able to drive to the hotel. It took us nearly two hours to get there and we finally gave up. The hotel should have given us a better instruction on how we can make a detour to avoid the road closure. In the end , we parked our vehicle around 800 meters away and carry our luggage all the way to the hotel.

Very central location.Novel, fun ideas for individual bedrooms. Comfortable bed but several maintenance issues, eg bedside light didnt work, towel rail leaked, soap dispenser didnt work. To be fair, as we mentioned them, the hotel staff reacted and sent someone to sort..Very good breakfast. Pleasant staff.

Fabulous

We had a wonderful stay at the annex apartment, just a few steps from the hotel. We were welcomed with a complimentary cocktail at check in. The location is excellent! We could walk to all of the popular sites and restaurants. The apartment had lots of space and was extremely clean and well appointed. We felt pampered with everything we needed.

Extremely convenient for the city centre in a lovely location, staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant did not always open on time for breakfast, possibly due to an insufficient number of staff for that meal so they were very busy but did all they could in that context. Very clean in every respect and housekeeping excellent.

Stayed here a number of times now and would always return when visiting Bologna . Friendly staff, nice restaurant serving good breakfast and local specialities in the evening . Really nice and central too

We really liked staying at Phi Hotel. Our apartment was really nice and clean, with small kitchen and living room, very spacious, they provided everything we needed in our stay. The staff is very attentive and helpful, and gave us a lot of useful advice on places to visit. They also offer a really good breakfast buffet for a good price, we highly recommend it.

Parking in Bologna is very limited. Hotel charged a fortune for parking & I could hardly fit the car into the parking.

Weekend stay in Bologna

Great Hotel. Excellent guest relations with Prosecco offered while you wait to check in. The room we had was very small, but was sufficient for a 2 night stay. The only reason I didn’t give the stay a 5 star rating was that the room felt a little warm, even though I set the AC way down. However, it may be that the Reception needed to set it lower and I never enquired.

Verz nice flat in tge annex to the Hotel Phi. Basic kitchen, nice shower, couple of bedrooms, comfy sitting room, all very correct.

Great Position and Excellent Restaurant

This hotel is very well positioned to explore Bologna by foot. It provides an easy walk to many of the attractions. The restaurant is excellent and well worth a few visits for breakfast, lunch or dinner, with an excellent team providing superb service.

Overall happy with this hotel. Great location. Super nice staff. Offer of prosecco or other drink at check in. I stayed in apt that was separate from hotel a couple hundred feet away. It was fine. Minor complaints: room not ready for early check in. Pretty typical for Europe but it’s always a wow when the room is available. The air conditioner made a humming noise. Good annoy some people. There was no usb port. So needed an adapter. Shower door came off track but I was able to put it back. These are minor complaints though. Overall it was very good.

Location was amazing and breakfast was the best we had during our week of travels. But it was way overpriced for the level of service, the room size, the cleanliness of the rooms and the fact that nothing seemed to be replenished unless you asked. Staff at reception and breakfast were attentive, but breakfast area was very unrelaxing. Two competing music systems on all 3 mornings we were there and very loud cafe. Take headphones if you’re neurodiverse!

Spacious apartment in the heart of Bologna

During our stay in Bologna, we stayed in an apartment through the PHI Hotel. We were very pleasantly surprised to see that it was in fact, an apartment. It was super spacious with a full living room and kitchen. It was very clean, and the location cannot be beaten. We were right in the heart of the city and could walk to everything. They had a fantastic breakfast buffet with a huge selection of food and drinks. Would recommend a stay at this hotel.

I stayed for 2 nights in November 2023. The property is steps away from Piazza Maggiore, and dining establishments. It is tucked in a quiet corner, which is good as it is near the hustle bustle, but away from it at the same time. My double room was spacious, clean, had an extensive pillow menu (extra pillows in the wardrobe) and comfortable bed. The bedding is hypoallergenic, which is good for somebody like me who has an extra sensitive skin. The bathroom was clean, with bathrobes (slippers in the wardrobe) and a weighing scale under the sink to weigh your suitcase (and/or yourself). Breakfast contain a variety of choices for the guests and there is an option to make breakfast requests The staff is wonderful, courteous, and friendly. A good hotel that is within walking distance to major landmarks.

The location is my favourite point about this hotel

Comfortable, clean hotel ideally situated in central Bologna. Reception very helpful with printing tickets, boarding passes, etc. Great breakfast, and friendly breakfast staff. The let-down for us was the surly attitude of the evening restaurant staff. As residents, one evening we wanted to have a drink in the restaurant for 10-15 mins whilst we used the wi-fi to make some gym bookings. They would not let us sit in the restaurant, citing 'fully booked' , even though there were no other people in the room. Despite this, we booked dinner for the following evening, wanting a quick meal before we went to a concert up the road. On arrival, we were asked to sit in the breakfast room (fine for breakfast, but no atmosphere for evening) even though the restaurant was again empty, and we only wanted 1 course and a bottle of wine. The restaurant staff would not let us sit in the restaurant, and were downright rude, so we left and went elewhere. A shame, as the food we had on our first evening was very good. A nice hotel let down by one or two evening staff.

This hotel is in a great location, right in the centre of Bologna. Everything is within walking distance. The staff are lovely, the breakfast excellent. My room was a bit tired and the bed rather hard, but some people like hard beds. The room was a really good size.

The room was spacious and clean - the breakfast was excellent! Location is around the corner from the Piazza, but the side street was very quiet and calm at all hours.

Perfect location of the center of the city, and a gracious and helpful staff. Offered Prosecco upon arrival, plenty of umbrellas when you needed them, and a really nice room on the fourth floor! Would stay again.

Fantastic Location, Great Hotel

We met with my wife in Bologna as she was on a business trip and we stayed in the JFK room. The room is quirky but big and comfortable. On arrival we were greeted with Prosecco on ice, which was a very nice touch. The breakfast is compact but very tasty. The staff is always smiling and helpful. When our flight got cancelled we asked to stay one more night but all the rooms were fully booked so we moved into one of their apartments which is locates in a building on the same street. That also was big and comfortable and does have an elevator for your bags. The location of the hotel is incredible, smack down in the middle of everything but somehow not noisy or chaotic. Would definitely go back and stay there.

Staffs are helpful and location is perfect for walking around the old town.

Both the hotel and the staff deserve the highest marks. The hotel has been fully renovated and is in superb condition. The rooms are comfortable, and bathrooms are great as well. Staff were very welcoming (arriving at 3 pm at 35C it felt really nice to be offered a drink at the check-in). As for location, it is one minute walk to Piazza Maggiore and the Neptune fountain. Superb. Expensive, but at least one knows what the price is for, in contrast to the same chain's hotel Canal Grande in Modena.

The central location is great as it's within walking distance of many things but I hadn't realised that it was a bit of a hike to the train station and the pavements are quite rough. I recommend a taxi. The reception staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful. I rate them very highly.

This is boutique gem of a hotel right around the corner from the Piazza Maggiore and convenient walking distance to everything in the center of Bologna. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms have design themes. Ours was dedicated to JFK. Decent sized with a king bed and outside balcony. The attached Osteria served an extensive buffet breakfast including chocolate and multiple other tortas (ideal breakfast food). This was included in the room charge. The restaurant recommendations that the hotel provided were all excellent. Highly recommend the Phi Hotel to anyone traveling to Bologna.

Best location, best staff, quirky and super clean hotel, book it!

Extremely courteous and helpful front desk. Great location in the center of town. Each room is different and a little quirky with slanted ceilings, sky lights, modern furnishings but totally functional.

We rented one of the apartments on the property. The apartments are located in various locations within 50 meters of the actual hotel. On check in, the staff was very nice and showed us around, and helped us with our bags. They also answered WhatsApp messages before our arrival. There is a parking garage located underneath the hotel that you can coordinate to use, however we chose not to use it and parked outside the city walls and walked in which ended up being a nice introduction to the city anyways. The room itself we found to be very charming, quiet, and most importantly clean. It is also fully cleaned and stocked daily. We just needed a nice place to rest at night after exploring the city and this room checked all the boxes. The location is excellent and just a 2 minute walk from the main plaza, a great hub for exploring various city sites and near any restaurant you can imagine. I do wish it was a little bit less expensive, but part of our visit was during a weekend and I guess its simply just supply and demand. Thank you for the nice stay Phi Hotel Bologna.

Great position

Excellent position and very efficient and friendly reception staff. Breakfast staff and breakfast was not where it should have been. Quality not so great, unusually for Bologna, and staff not attentive. Hôtel is expensive for what it is but the convenience of it makes it worth it. Again nothing too much trouble for reception staff.

Apartment was charming, spotless, king size bed was very comfortable, staff cleaned the apartment daily.
