We stayed here when we had a rental car and wanted to explore the Basque area of Spain. We did day trips to Bilbao, San Sebastián and Pamplona. The Parador is in a beautiful setting and the room was very comfortable. We did all our eating and shopping during our day trips so the Parador was a quiet, country setting to relax. We did eat breakfast at the Parador but no other meals. Breakfast was good - very typical Spanish style hotel breakfast.
Stopped here on our way from Galicia back to the Channel Tunnel. We have stayed in Paradors before and they are usually comfortable and interesting buildings. The Parador de Argomaniz is particularly noted for its Basque cuisine and has a highly rated restaurant on the top floor. The drawback for us was that it doesn't serve food until 8.30 at night, which was a bit late as we had been in the road all day, and was a bit short on vegetarian options for my wife. However, we took at short drive into Vittoria-Gastez where there were lots of eating options. The only downside to this was that the hotel car park was full of diners' cars by the time we got back. That aside, the hotel was very comfortable, the room rate very reasonable, the breakfast was very good and the views across the countryside were amazing.
Just lovely!
This was our 3rd stay here. The Parador is delightful, calm, peaceful & very clean. The staff always charming & helpful. Food is very good.
Lovely place, great food and service.
An excellent stop off with lovely rooms and very nice staff. Breakfast was amazing. Very quiet room as well so I had an excellent nights sleep. Always good|
Unlike many paradors the older part of the hotel is small and the accommodation is modern wings. so lacks a bit of character. Still very nice
The staff were exceptional at reception, in the bar and in the restaurant.
Excellent staff, good food
Beautiful quiet hotel, restored old large spanish farmhouse, very nice bedroom, public rooms and elegant dining room
Amazing stay
Had a wonderful time at the hotel and the food at the restaurant was great
limited on site parking
The only issue not enough parking spaces
Gorgeous hotel with very good size rooms. The service was exceptional. We arrived quite late but the staff asked if we had been able to get dinner or not so they could help us out if not. The breakfast was also very good with lots of variety.
Parador Argomaniz
Lovely hotel, off the beaten track. Everything was very nice but they seemed a little short on staff which created tension amongst the them. Would like to make a special mention of the young lady on reception, who was kind , patient and could not be more helpful, thank you( Maria I think her name was) .
Very nice hotel.
Food was very good. Accommodation and reception very good.
Paradise! Quiet and beyond butiful.
Lovely hotel. Really helpful staff. Superb restaurant for dinner. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
Pretty setting but isolated staff were nice but t not overly helpful.
A beautiful old property of historical interest to which contemporary building has been added. The property has a great location with views down onto a plain.
Service in bar and restaurant a bit slow
Not too far out of Vitoria, the Parador was in a quiet village-like location. Check in was very easy! Dessire came out to the car with us and brought all our luggage to our room. She helped us other times by copying documents and making phone calls on our behalf. Our room was very large and bright. Bedding was pristine, and bathroom well equipped. We had a delicious lunch in their restaurant. Service was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay and would not hesitate to go back.
August 2018 stopover for Bilbao ferry
It is a lovely hotel with helpful and friendly staff. We would recommend a superior room for the best view and the half board option. The restaurant is excellent and there is free parking. We recommend half board as there is absolutely nothing at all apart from very quiet houses and a (closed) church in the very small village of Argomaniz. There is no other restaurant or bar anywhere nearby. Pay the extra and enjoy the Parador for what it is.
Lovely hotel in a quiet position.
Lovely bed and room; slightly tired bathroom but all worked very well and nice to have 2 basins. Good value room but breakfast extortionate at €16 apiece. At that price, does anyone turn up? We didn't! Dinner also extremely expensive and whilst dining room was beautiful there were no windows, so very dark and no views. Pleased the hotel was several miles away from the centre of Vitoria Geteiz: that city is vile, and whoever is designing the new parts should be incarcerated. Hideous. Avoid the city at all costs!
Argomaniz
excellent food, pleasant staff, comfortable room
Quiet, silence and easy access
Nice Parador, refurbished recently. Easy access to Vitoria and other places in the Basque County. Good restaurant, good bed.
Nice Hotel
Very nice building & green areas. This is a medieval Castle with a lot of history
Stayed an extra night.
About 12 km. from Vitoria-Gasteiz in a little hamlet that was peaceful and gorgeous in the spring sunlight. A lovely room though a bit small in a very impressive stone building that been pretty much re-done. Our only criticsm concerns the prices of the meals & snacks. Though the breakfasts are pretty good, 15€ p.p. is a bit excessive. A dried fried egg does not really cut it, nor does a room service snack served on slices of plain bread. A lovely spot with welcoming staff.
Lovely Parador but a bit remote
The village is small and doesn't have anything of interest locally. The hotel serves evening meal from 20:30 onwards, typical Spanish. Room service for food was the same time and the bar could only offer Jamon or a cheese board before this time. We had the cheese which was excellent but they lost our business for the evening meal as we don't enjoy eating late. There weren't any local Restaurents to go out to as an alternative.
Very good quality food and very nice place, totally recommend it
A paradore to visit!
This is a fabulous paradore! A former palace, Argomaniz is beautiful inside and out. The dining room was lovely and the food great.
Right place, wrong time?
On the day we arrived there was a wedding party taking place. The wedding party had taken over the restaurant, bar, terrace and garden and consequently the only place we could sit with any peace and quiet was in our room. That might not have been so bad but the air con didn't work properly and the room was very uncomfortable. We did manage to book a table in the restaurant for 20.30 but when we arranged to meet our friends for pre dinner drinks it felt very much like we were gate crashing the party and the atmosphere was hardly relaxing. The food was dull and uninspiring and the waitress gave the impression that we were somebody she could have done without after a long day dealing with wedding guests. The only redeeming feature of our stay was the unexpected surprise and delight on discovering the town of Vitoria about 10km away. The old town is an absolute gem, teeming with locals having drinks, eating pintxos, dancing in the streets, it was an amazing place and the highlight of our 5 day trip around the Basque region and Cantabria.
Lovely Parador
Great Parador in middle of nowhere. Plus to this hotel was the restaurant. Very good.
Good day!
Excellent with local food an interesting experience
Elderly couple.
Like all paradors we have stayed in very impressive and comfortable. However it is in a very remote hamlet a long way from any competition for alternative dining and drinking. This probably partly explains their pretty mediocre performance in the food served particularly at this time of year (mid January) and sparsity of customers.
Peaceful and elegant
Beautiful views, a building steeped in history and wonderful food. A wonderful experience at an amazing price!
Great Place
Just under 2 hours from Santander. Just right for us before we started our journey to bielsa. Have been before and it is just as good. Well done Parador de Argomaniz
Parador near Vitoria/Gasteiz
Lovely Parador built around an old palace 12km east of Vitoria/Gasteiz.Rooms excellent, esp those with a view.Hotel staff very helpful & all spoke English.Restaurant generally very good, tho the cod was too salty!!No facilities in the village, but a good base for exploring the area.Free parking. One night there was a conference which was noisy until very late,I did complain at the time & plan to write to head office when I get home. However the other 7 nights were fine.
Very nice Paradore in the mountain
It was lovely. They have kept the old part of the building and added new wings to make comfortable rooms. The dining room is an enormous barn style room. Something to look at. Tapas for drinks was ok.

A bit of a treat.
This is a beautiful hotel. The public spaces are in the restored house and the guest rooms are in two modern wings. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The terrace bar is particularly attractive. The restaurant on the top floor of the old building is well presented and provided a good value meal. Having been forewarned, the hotel provided gluten free bread for one of us. The hotel is easy to find with ample parking and is about 15 minutes out of Vitoria.
Bus access
Acceptable hotel for those with an auto. Simple rooms, not any more rustic than normal hotel along the road. Nothing in neighborhood except new construction of single family homes for wealthy suburbanites. Only worth it if you want to say that you stayed in a parador. Most likely the restaurant was quite good. but it was expensive, and we weren't that hungry, so cannot rate it.
Out in the Boondocks!
Paradors can't be bad but location can...this one is located out in the toolies! May services at a low...still a very comfortable room.
good stop over
We stopped en route returning from holiday in Portugal. Lovely and convenient location just off the motorway. Very friendly welcome. Excellent breakfast choice.
Very clean, just out of town, but service lacking
Overall, we had a decent stay at Parador. The rooms are super clean and well appointed. It sits on a very quiet piece of land outside Vitoria but still accessible to town with a 20 minute drive. Our only issue was that when asked for help on various issues, notably Air Conditioning, the staff were rather non-helpful or put off by the questions. We had to call down multiple times to have the air conditioning turned on because it is only set to operate at certain windows. Resting from jet lag should trump energy efficiency if the guest makes a request.
Nice hotel, poor service.
Parador de Argomaniz is a wonderful hotel in a great location just off the Vitoria-Pamplona motorway about 10 minutes drive from the outstanding city centre of Vitoria. Rooms are excellent, spacious. modernized and cool. There is a nice bar and garden terrace area. BUT symptomatic with 'La Crisis'in Spain, we experienced 1 star service in a 4 star establishment in high season. Only one staff member at check in/reception, who spent ten minutes on the phone dealing with an incoming reservation enquiry before checking us in. I asked whether it was his boss, he said no just an annoying potential booking. Staff in the bar were slow and indifferent, worse still in the breakfast restaurant, we had to ask three different waiters for two fried eggs, no apologies, just quiet ineptitude. A shame. The staff make a hotel. Parador De Argomaniz failed badly here. Shame.
Convenient for short break from SW France
A really good well managed hotel in an lmpressive building. Restaurant rather over priced.
Argomaniz - loved the room, not so, the food.
Accomodations were perfect...luxurious! We got a nice discount from Expedia, but I don't know if I'd pay the full show-up-at-the-desk-without-a-reservation price. However we were disappointed with the food at the restaurant. Very bland, no salt. Could this be a Euro-initiative to make people eat healthier even though they don't want to? 30 years ago at the Parador in Ubeda we had a wonderful wild rabbit stew with mushrooms. Had hoped for a similar experience here....a big let-down. However the restaurant staff were helpful, courteous, and charming. So don't blame them!
Excellent hotel but expensive food
Usual high standards of paradors achieved - room clean, spacious and comfortable, classy public rooms and facilities. Breakfast expensive at 15 euros/person, especially as no other options nearby. Restaurant prices also expensive, given location makes for a captive market, and menus over-complicated. Food very good though, restaurant service so-so. You need a car.
Goed hotel
Goed hotel. Niet bijzonder. Typisch duits
Espacio y silencio
Very nice
Nice hotel in countryside.
To in walls, no sleeping for the tired
The walls in the room must be very thin, we could hear every noise, people in room next to our bed headboard talked until the sun came up, unfortunately they were loud and sounded intoxicated but all night and there was no way to not hear them, plus in the bathroom you could hear the next room when someone was using the toilet sink or shower, was gross. Also hallway noise came straight in! The restaurant here is the worse food on our vacation, over priced and not fresh. Salmon and salads looked like they had been sitting for days! The server was very kind though, made the dinner tolerable. The fact we did not sleep a wink due to the noises all night, and we aren’t light sleepers, made this the worse stay on our Basque adventure. Would not stay here again. We liked that this is a neat building in a nice country setting and only 12km from Vitoria which is good for Pintxos and all the workers from Vergenia to e receptionist to our server (can’t remember her name but she is part Cuban) at the bar and restaurant who made this stay.
Lovely hotel. A real Parador. Its a pity that there is no swimmingpool while they have a very big nice garden.
Empfehlenswertes Hotel in Ruhelage
Bel endroit Personnel top
Hervorragend!
Just what the doctor ordered. Perfekt, um in gediegener Atmosphäre herunterzukommen.
We parfait
Joli hôtel, propre et moderne. Excellent restaurant. Personnel charmant

Nice place, disappointing restaurant service
Mostly a great place for an overnight stay. The only criticism is the efficiency of service in the restaurant needs to be vastly improved overall. After being given the bread shortly after being seated, which was lovely, we waited over an hour to be be served what we ordered and the whole of the evening meal took at least another hour. We did get a nice glass of gazpacho about ten minutes before the starter as an amuse bouche which helped. Breakfast service was basic and lacking in service. We had to beckon a waitress to order cooked food from the kitchen and the two plates were brought to us with a five minute interval between each one which was disappointing. Now we've passed the covid distancing situation thing, hotels must surelg realise buffet breakfasts are always better, so guests aren't waiting unnecessarily when they want to get on with their day. Unless you're a bit pretentious that is! Apart from that, the reception, the bar service, the outside terrace and the room were all excellent. It's a nice place overall and maybe on another visit, the restaurant will be run properly.
