Good location for a short visit to Montevideo
Excellent location right next to Independence Square. Ideal for a short visit to Montevideo. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The original old elevator was fantastic!
Beautiful old hotel
The staff are really helpful. The place oozes character with antique lift and furniture. Coffee lounge with free coffee if you are waiting for departure or in my case waiting for a room to be ready for my early check in. Noisy at night. Hotel backs onto a little plaza used by skateboarders and others. But this may be expected in any central hotel.
We were yelled up because we had left the door opened. During checking out, we were silenced by the receptionist when we said “good morning” because there was someone sleeping there. We were also scolded because we had left the elevator door opened.
The staff were very nice. They cleaned room really well. They helped me with taxi, water, etc.
This hotel has tons of charm. The building is beautiful, the staff are exceptionally friendly, and it located within walking distance to all the major sites, but on a fairly quiet street.
An historic older hotel, a block from the central plaza, and close to restaurants, shops, museums and tourist attractions. The building, in spite of its age, was very well maintained and super clean. Recommended without hesitation, and I would definitely stay at the Palacio Hotel again in future.
Old-fashioned hotel with a birdcage lift Located two minutes from the mainSquare Very good value for money
Competitively priced old fashioned hotel but with excelent modernisd bathroom on the edge of the Ciudad Vieja a few yards from the Plaza del Independencia
Excellent hotel in a very central location. Staff were lovely and helpful.
Feels like family run. Super secure. Set deep in the old 300 yr old city. Coffee and pastries for breakfast. Comfortable bed. TV. Good internet. Guests included young and old. Taxi from airport which is a long way away $70.
Great, older hotel with wonderful location
Great location in the Old City. Felt safe there while other parts of Old City felt a little creepy, particularly on weekends when the govt workers go home-can be pretty deserted. Very close to Plaza de Independencia and casino at Radisson. Very walkable to wonderful walkway/bike lanes along beach - I think goes for about 26 miles. City buses nearby and cabs plentiful at Plaza. Museums very close by - Andes Museum was great. Only "con" was having to leave keys at reception each time you leave the hotel, but it actually makes sense to do so. I had a 6th floor patio room that was small but patio was lovely to sit on and compensated for the small room. Reception and cleaning staff very good.
Quaint but charming hotel.
The staff were consistently rude to me, and when I asked for reasonable explanations around missing items (items went missing during laundry exchange, I was thereafter i 'disenfranchised' from any reasonable level of service. One constant issue with the property was the unidentified staff members asking for room keys, before returning to the front desk, this was very frustrating, as It makes no sense to pass your door keys to somebody you have no clarity if they work at the hotel or not. The area around the hotel, is incredible dangerous due to the presence of addicts injecting in an alleyway on the one side of the hotel, also I was disappointed that no resources/maps/or advice was available about Montevideo.
Gorgeous, character-filled property.
I loved the friendly people who worked at the front desk. It is an older building - kind of shabby chic - for travellers of a bygone era. Although old, they keep it as clean. The location is ideal and the price was perfect. And everyone at the front desk could not have been nicer. They helped me with an electrical converter for my stay, uber information, restaurant ideas...
This was the second time I stayed in this hotel; the building, specially the elevator, and the furniture make me feel as if I was living in another time. A very convenient location to attend plays at Teatro Solís.
I really loved this old hotel. Everything about it was quaint - from the little gated elevator to the old-style keys for every room and the shutters on the windows. The staff could not have been kinder and more cheerful. There were a lot of people working at this little hotel and they were all very nice. It's old, and kind of shabby chic, but it had a terrific personality and I felt safe and welcome as I came and went being a tourist for four days. The bedroom and bathroom were cleaned every day. It is right where the old city meets the central city, so it was ideally located to walk in either direction.
Beddings had stains on them; area is sketchy at night.
Great option for Montevideo centro and old town
Nice in the sense of faded grandeur and very well priced. Well placed but not actually in the old town which can be a bit risky at night. Staff were fantastic.
Is an older property that is centrally located. Very unique!
The hotel is old but good for the price, very nice location, what I really like is the friendliness of the hotel staff.
Very nice and welcoming staff-value for our stay in the heart of Montevideo was fantastic!
I love this very charming hotel located in the old city but close to downtown. I stay here every time I visit Montevideo if they have availability. The staff are wonderful and helpful, the rooms are nice and have the old world charm, the location is lovely, the coffee is excellent. It feels like home to me!
Clean and comfortable with great location
¡Muy buena atención!
1890s architecture!
Staying at this hotel built in the 1890s was an interesting experience. However, the facilities were very outdated and there was no soundproofing at all. We couldn't sleep due to the noise inside building and outside.
Nice hotel in city centre area
Well located, about a 15-20 minute walk from the port. Room and bathroom were spacious. While breakfast was not offered, there was a selection of pastries and coffee made available to guests in the morning, which was a nice bonus. The staff were all very nice. The bathroom floor did seem to get quite wet after taking a shower, so that is just something to be aware of. Would stay here again.
I felt like I was staying in Paris. Yeah the building is old and the style reflects that, but that’s what I liked about it! The staff was soooooo great. The only thing I would say, is that the location is just okay. It’s nice that’s it’s central, but there are many neighbourhood outside of the old town that are worth exploring. If I had just stuck to the old town, I may have been less happy with the trip but thats but the hotels fault. Overall, for the price, this was an amazing stay.
Nice place
Quaint and interesting. Great location.
Great value in a convenient location. Our room was on the top floor (6th) and the best part of our stay was the view from our oversized terrace. The hotel is very basic and probably not renovated for a few decades but very well maintained. If you're looking for budget friendly / no frills & clean with nice staff and service, I recommend this hotel. We rented a car and were told not to park it outside the hotel for safety reasons but there was a parking garage within 3 minutes walk for $10/day.
Cool colonial style building. Handy location, close to shops, restaurants and amenities. Comfortable room with balcony, hot water, strong wifi. Friendly staff. Would stay here again.
Charming vintage hotel. Excellent location to central part of city. Friendly staff. Recommend room not facing street as Friday and Saturday street noise all night from vehicles and nearby bars.
The property was beautiful, the shower had nice pressure and stayed warm ! The views are stunning from the roof . They have a washer. The staff were helpful and kind. I would stay here again .
Charming art nouveau hotel in the middle of Ciudad Vieja. Owned and operated by a single family. Very friendly and helpful staff. Amazing decor that will take you back in time. Very unique and pleasing experience. Easy and enjoyable walk to any of the Ciudad Vieja sights, cafes, and slightly longer walk to Mercado del Puerto historic market filled with excellent parrilladas. Can't beat the price.
Hotel was in a great location in the old town, walkable to most things you’ll want to see, with a selection of bars, cafés and restaurants around it. We had the room with the terrace and it was great, would happily stay here again.
Fantastic value for money. The room was a little small but good bathroom snd great balcony with excellent view.
Place is old and did not have hot water.
Well located in the centre of the city. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was acceptable, a decent size amd furnished in keeping with the building age. However this meant there weren't really spaces suitable for suitcases. Linens were clean, but towels were a bit old. The bathroom was refreshed daily, but was cold and mouldy. There were residues and grime built up behind the toilet that really need a good clean. Pillows were very uncomfortable and stained; would benefit from pillow protector covers.
Older property, with older fixtures. Working elevator, which was very useful. Location is great!
rustic rooms & location was excellent
Excelente estadia
Very quiet and good location. Tea/coffee and media lunas for breakfast
