The location is great with a beautiful beach area and plenty of palm trees. Rooms were good size. Nice and spacious lobby area with nice music and live shows. Restaurants were good overall, including the buffet. We liked breakfast and dinner options more than the lunch options. A-la-carte restaurants were okay, except the oriental restaurant were food and service were terrible. Some of the shows were nice. We liked the circus night. Pool was nice but we spent most of the time at the beach.
The food selection
We love staying at this property it is so convenient
Anyone complaining about the Buffet is sadly mistaken. I found something yummy to eat everytime I visted.
Everyone was great
Loved late night pizza & tacos! Golf cart drivers were excellent . Everything was CLEAN . Massage was great. Entertainment at night not that good . Drinks were all weak and lines for drinks by beach were TERRIBLY LONG
The resort was very nice. Would be nice to have had transportation to and from the beach.
Stayed here last yr and this month. Since last yr they removed bar on beach which makes for Very long lines at the pool bar. Staff are great however they are very understaffed at all restaurants, wait sometimes over 15 minutes before getting silverware, napkin, water, drinks.
I loved the gorgeous pools, the great food, and the size of the resort. It was very easy to get around the resort, and I thought the staff was excellent, especially Danny Matos who was the first person I met when I arrived at the resort and who made me feel welcomed.
Carlos our consigner was awesome went above and beyond for our group we were traveling with. he was the best thing about this resort
was a very nice resort just a few things, need more people that can understand english was hard a times. Some of the food was very very over cooked, all 4 in our party got sick at different times, not fun on vacation. The pool is very frustrating people put down a towel and never show up but keep the chair need a better system than that. Other places give you 2 hours not back you chair is free for the taking.
Great experience and nice place. Fresh food and Carlos Resario was amazing support for the trip
Clean. Beautiful beach. Nice rooms.
Great value for the price! Will reccomend and return.
Upon arrival, we were greeted nicely by the bellhops as they know they get a tip for taking our bags. Pretty typical but nice to be greeted and given direction for check-in. Check-in was very, very slow. The line wasn’t really that long but the process is so slow. We waited in line for maybe an hour. People were at the desk checking in for an extremely long time. The grounds are kept up well. The rooms are clean and cleaning service did a good job. The buildings could use a little work but I’ve found this to be common throughout Latin America/Caribbean. For the most part everything in our room worked properly other than at times, we didn’t get true hot water. A few times it was just somewhat warm. Wasn’t that big of a deal. The service was average. As with anywhere, some of the servers were good while others were poor. We had a truly great and attentive server - Frennia Familia. If not for her, I would say our experience with service was poor. What this review truly hangs on was the food. The food is pretty poor. It’s not up to Mexican resort expectations for sure. This was our first experience in the DR so it may be typical for that country I don’t know. We did get typical Dominican food on a couple excursions and that food was significantly better. Overall, we had a good time just wish the food was much better. The buffets and the “restaurants “ were pretty bad. If food quality is important, I would not recommend this resort.
The property was bad. We had no hot water. Our toilet would not flush. People kept trying to get in our room all hours ofnthe night. Our patio door would not open. I could go on.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Occidental Punta Cana Hotel. We liked the pools, bars, beach, room, activities, etc. The property itself was very clean and well maintained and the big majority of the staff was super nice. The only detail was the food.
It was a nice resort.
We didn’t use anything outside.
Loved the people and service! Food was only flaw.
NR
Horrible place and very rude staff. We stayed an entire week and it was a pain. Food isn’t fresh. They reused the food 3 or four times. My mom was food poisoned, they didn’t have a wheelchair for disabled person. Additional to this, we checked out and we tried to go in only to wait the transportation and they didn’t allow us to enter even while they knew they we were with a disabled person.
The environment and staff were very friendly. Although I wish there were more areas at this resort, including the dining rooms were wifi works. The drinks/food and services were good.
I'm going to start with the good; the rooms were made up very well and the maid service was excellent. We had new towels in the morning and we had new towels at night. The bartenders were also excellent. Francisco at the lobby bar and Carlos my butler were excellent and helped in many ways. Now for the not so good. The food was average at best. Normally the buffet is not as good as the a la carte restaurants but in this case the a la carte restaurants were horrible. The menu choices were limited, the food was cold, and in one case we did not get served for over 1 hour and we left without eating. My wife and I both had diarrhea for most of the week and we know to avoid the water so it wasn't from that. The beach itself was beautiful but if you wanted a beach chair you had to get up before 7:00 a.m. and put a towel and a book on your chair. Sometimes people disregarded that and took your stuff anyway. The surf was high and it was difficult to swim in the ocean. The resort is in desperate need of upgrading. In the lobby bathroom the marble tiles on the wall were cracked and separating and in places even missing. The beach bar ran out of rum and tequila and only offered beer, gin, and whiskey for afternoon Beach drinks. I don't know many people that drink whiskey in the afternoon and make it to supper. Funny how the lobby bar can have all these liquors but the beach bar runs out? I don't understand? I would not recommend this resort to anyone.
Too many people at buffet They need another restaurant It's an older hotel which is apparent when you see the bathroom Hard to iron clothes, nowhere to put the ironing board close enough to plug in the iron I wouldn't go back But the beach is beautiful
É um bom hotel, com bons quartos e boa area externa. Porem, falta gerenciamento para os funcionarios que fazem o que querem e nao atendem bem os hospedes.
Food options were limited. Serving sizes at the dinner restaurants were minimal. Room had several little things that needed repair. Service was poor.
No thing
This was our family’s first time in Punta Cana. Occidental was amazing for us. Everything is clean, comfortable, all staff was kind… Food in restaurants was wonderful and diverse. Beach, water and all activities were more than expected. Definitely recommending this place for vacation.
Clean, with friendly staff.
The evening shows were well organized. There was choice of restaurants to eat from as long as you could book one. They need additional staff to make the bookings as that was one person so line got long.
Property was beautiful, we were able to walk around the resort easily. Pools and beach were beautiful and the restaurants were great. Italian was our favourite.
Excellent
My first all inclusive trip and well worth it
Beautiful place to stay I had no issues checking in and the place looks amazing!!! This lobby was like no other
This property layout is nice but definitely dated. The restaurants are all 90s decor in need of a major update. The food quality was poor also. The beach is excellent. I found most of the employees did not understand English at all. This is my 4th time to punta cana and this was the worst ive encountered.
Terrible food, terrible rooms , Ac not working could not fix the temperature Service disaster I had to complain change rooms Anyway will never ever go back
I took my mom and aunt to Occidental Punta Cana. We were greeted with Carlos Rosario as our butler for our stay. He was amazing to say the least. He made all our reservations for the restaurants in short notice. Was available for us whenever we needed. Their system was to use WhatsApp as communication. And Carlos did an amazing job at communicating with us making sure we enjoyed our entire stay! We had a rough start at the first restaurant with the service not being very good. However without having to ask, Carlos came by to check on us and when we expressed this to him, not only did he immediately get someone to fix the problem but he also made sure we did not occur this incident again. He was a huge part of why our stay was as good as it was! The rest of the staff and our stay was just as good. Everyone was kind and welcoming. They always want to find a way to help you. We felt like we were special guests attending this resort. The food was great both restaurant and buffet. the facilities were amazing with all their pools, beach, disco, and excursions. We got the chance to visit one of the other larger and more popular resorts not too far from occidental however found that when we returned back to occidental, it felt like home. Comforting. Definitely will be back!
This was the most disappointing resort we’ve visited in Punta Cana, despite having been there many times. Positives: • Housekeepers were mostly great and did a good job cleaning our rooms. • Bartenders were also good, and the swim-up bar was enjoyable. • The seafood restaurant had great service both times we dined there. • Activities were good, with water polo being particularly fun. Nadal from the entertainment crew always made sure we were having fun. • The ocean was amazing, and the beach was clean. Negatives: • Service at most restaurants was disappointing. • Tables at the two buffets were often not clean, lacked silverware, and servers sometimes didn’t bring water. We had to ask for water or silverware multiple times. • The food was okay, but cheeses and deli meats should have been better refrigerated. There was only pork available for deli meats. • The Mexican restaurant was disappointing; the food was okay, but the service was very slow. • Air conditioners in some rooms were broken and it took days to have them fixed.
The Occidental Punta Cana was very nice. My room was clean and always replenished. I found it difficult to get reservations at the specialty restaurants. Would be nice if they were all open every day. The pools were clean and the beach was beautiful.
Concierge and butler service was nice. We had a dedicated staff to go to in case of any issue. Hospitality was great, everyone smiling and welcoming
Great place!
My boyfriend and I had an amazing week at the Occidental Punta Cana , our butler Carlos took great care of us , as well as our favourite bar tender Yessi and Carolina who have the best customer service! The food was great at all places from the a La carte restaurants, buffet, snack buffet and the late night snack spots , would highly recommend and would definitely stay again
Enjoyed the atmosphere
The hotel is beautiful, good food
Was a very nice resort, food was good and the beach was amazing
Very nice place
I enjoyed the Hotel and staff.

Gostei muito
Very good
The Royal level is excellent. The Royal restaurant has great food. All staff are wonderful. Hipolito, Wendi, Reina . The Royal bar great service from Eduardo and Nilda. Cesar Ruiz security kept non royal level people out. We'll keep coming back
First night our room was not ready. Had to go into smaller room and then got transferred to the right room. Food was just ok, expected better food for the royal level. Food at royal level restaurant was better than other restaurants.
The Occidental Punta Cana was lovely! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly and by a very cultural live band playing in the lobby! The staff were friendly and ensured we had everything to make our stay enjoyable. Our room location was amazing, we were right by the beach. We booked two excursions with the guys in the hotel lobby, very informative and trusted. The facilities here were plentiful and the food was great. Our personal favourite was the freshly baked pizzas as well as the steak house we dined in one evening! Just an amazing stay all round!
Smoking in all the area
Nice place. Not a party atmosphere. Family friendly. Every staff was nicer then nice. Food was meh. Nothing great

My 40th Birthday was not that Grand at this Resort
I went to this resort to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Arriving of course the lobby was beautiful. You’re greeted with a butler who will assist you during your stay . The room we had which was a signature room was not the best . Although it’s the cheapest , it still should’ve been up to par . The sink was broken a bit , the mirror was in bad shape . There were ants in the shower , in the room, on the night stands . We saw 2 roaches come from under the couch . There were no plugs , just usb ports for charging . They serve the same breakfast daily and food and it’s mostly cold . It’s cultured based food so tourists like me wouldn’t like it much . You can only eat at 2 restaurants with reservations and the serving of food is so small and I didn’t eat it. The glasses and utensils were dirty so it’s best to ask for a new set and drink from a plastic cup. The staff that only speaks Spanish sucks their teeth due to misunderstanding and they won’t serve you . My spouse and I experienced a lot of the staff overlooking us and catering more to the Hispanic cultures . We spoke up but it didn’t change anything . If someone ( staff ) say , free this or that , run like hell. It’s a trick to get you to a private area and get you to invest in a timeshare there . They were asking for $19,000 -$ 24,000 . It’s a set up ! One thing I will highlight is the butler Juan Mejia I had did make sure I had a birthday banner on my door and complimentary champagne .
Danny from the check in desk was 5 star and very personable , he checked us in in 2 minutes then took us to our room carrying our largest bag , then the day before our departure he called our room to see if we needed a taxi next day for trip to airport witch we did , he had our taxi waiting
Overall Dominican resorts still have not recovered from COVID, so the amount of guests is low, resulting in bargain pricing.
Poor room
enjoyed
Over the weekend when the facility got really busy the pool water actually started to turn green. There was not enough to keep the pool clean and accommodate all the customers.
The resort is nice and staff is extremely friendly. I love that it’s always clean and tidy. I think they should improve their WiFi strength so wherever you are on the resort property your WiFi will work excellent!
Amazing
Saff and
Transportation
I like that the staff was very friendly and helpful the property is extremely clean private exclusively too the guest. They had special events every day. The food was also really good.
Hotel was an OK experience. Definitely would not go back.

This was our first time to an Occidental property and the DR. We really enjoyed the property, and it was extremely well maintained, we were impressed with the property's cleanliness. The food was average at best and the staff although friendly, no urgency around customer service. The ROYAL level beach, bar and check-in service was great. Our overall experience was great, we would recommend and will likley be returning.
Had an amazing time! Very clean!
I was very surprised. The hotel considering it was built in the year 2000 was very well maintained. They were constantly painting the hallways. The room was very nice. Smart TV minibar and it was very clean. Room service was done early aswell. Ac worked well. One of my favorite things was the convinience. Everything is in walking distance. The bar the lobby and the buffett. And the beach is FANTASTIC. Definitely one of my stays. Will come again!
Good hotel
I did not care for the food in the restaurants (except the Seafood), but the buffet was great!
Enjoyed our stay at the occidental resort. The staff was nice and the resort was beautiful. We were just a few feet away from the beach which was a plus. Rooms were clean and neat with plenty of space. The only thing that i didn’t enjoy was the food. The restaurants could be better. But overall i give it 4 stars!!
The food was some of the worst actually the worst I’ve ever eaten. I left early due to having food poisoning. Everyday the same options at the buffet and bar by the pool. The pool closes really early and entertainment was very late every night. I was ready to leave my vacation after 3 days of being there. Upset I stayed for 6 days and wasted my time. I left the resort the last 3 days as service was terrible (hardly anyone knew English) and dining was just terrible. I would never go back and the thought of going back makes me want to cry.
Second time here. Really recommend it
Friendly
Stayed at the Occidental Resort for my 33rd wedding anniversary. It was a disaster. It started with getting into our room, which was quite nice other than some cleanliness issues and functional problems. The water pressure in the shower was so low that the rain shower would not engage and the handheld just drizzled water. Next the closet door got stuck and we were unable to remove our clothes. It took about 4 ½ hours for this to be corrected. We had a wonderful butler named Jenfry advocated for us, and we went to check out another room, it had the same water pressure issues. Finally, we were moved to another room, which was posed as an upgrade to the First Club area, however, the room was much smaller than our original room. It did have a larger TV and a working shower. I’m sorry but, this is not an upgrade to me having a functioning shower is an expectation not an upgrade. The front door was cut so wrongly that it let in loads of light due to it’s ill fit, it even had a large crack in the upper section. Also, the last room had a phone that wasn’t working because we did not have a jack for it to plug into. Other issues included rude staff, a severe language barrier and the cleanliness of the resort. For starters I found a wad of hair in my clean bath towels that was not mine. The chair in our new room was stained and had no cushion whatsoever so it was not worth the space that it took up. The beach was beautiful, but the chairs were disgusting, I wouldn’t even
Staff are so rude! The food wasn’t the greatest, and the rooms were outdated. Lots of ratchet loud people. Not like other resorts I been to where it’s mostly classy, educated humans.
Great all-inclusive location for Punta Cana. I have also stayed at Impressive before and thought that Occidental was a better location.
Occidental was an amazing time with my family.
Marlyn a bartender was very rude
Please no smoking all area
Stayed at this place for five days really enjoyed my stay. Loved the beach.
The level of courtesy is amazing. The staff is always attentive. Speedy check-in. Speedy check-out. Clean room everyday. Fun activities. Beautiful Beach. Transportation with in the resort is always available. Excellent food variety. Typical Dominican food and a taste of home in the buffet. Safe environment, inside of the premisses and outside as well. Walking distance to many stores. Loved my stay. I would definitely return to Occidental Punta Cana.
Fantastic stay will come back again.
It was a fantastic stay and experience. Very kind and attentive staff, even more kind and attentive if you speak their native language which is Spanish. Manuela from the bar lobby waitress was very nice, attentive and helpful in giving us advice around how the town outside is like with recommendations where we can souvenirs and all. I recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the atmosphere and all. They offer tour packages in the front desk. The cleaning staff is also very nice and respectful if you want extra bottles of water or other things. If you want just the bathroom clean they can do that only if you want. They front desk is very helpful if certain things break down; they get it fixed ASAP. or if you need additional items sent to your room like water and stuff. Its much easier to communicate will all them if you know Spanish. What I don't recommend is buying souvenirs stores like premium bottle liquor or cigars from inside the resort because they charge 2 to 3 times that you can find outside the resort but I believe that is typical. With Manuela the lobby bar waitress, I wholeheartedly recommend her for sure if anyone is looking souvenirs, cigars or drinks you can buy for better prices outside of the resort. Overall wonderful fantastic experience. Am planning with a bigger group set of friends to return.
We booked a jr ocean view suite with jacuzzi tub and it was lovely. Our room was on the 3rd floor so it felt very private which made it relaxing. The staff really did not speak much or great English which was slightly disappointing given the advertisement that they do - however going to a foreign country knowing your language isn’t the native one - that’s always a risk. Food was decent and there were plenty of options. Definitely should have brought a cooler cup like we saw a number of people carrying but hindsight ya know lol. We enjoyed it and would consider going again.
Easy check out, thanks
Workers friendly
The staff members were very nice and helpful.
My family and I absolutely loved it here. Hoping to return someday! The staff is absolutely amazing, so helpful and always available if you need them. The food is endless! Restaurants all over and buffet is amazing. Everything is just perfect!
We saw a cockroach in eating place
My stay at the Occidental Punta Cana Resort was a dream. The property is so beautiful. The rooms were large, the pools and the beach were beautiful. The spa had amazing options for massages, facials, beauty in treatments. We were helped by Charles to order our massage packages. He was excellent with us. The lobby is large and open, with a bar. The buffet had tons of seating and great food options. There were several restaurants serving different cuisines. There were several gift shops with beautiful souvenirs. The resort staff were amazing. Everyone was kind, friendly and attentive. They really made the effort to know you and make you feel at home. Jenfry was our Butler for our stay, and he went above and beyond to accommodate us. He gave us a quick tour of the property, helped us to our rooms with our luggage and made sure we had everything we needed. Jenfry also helped us if there was any issues with our rooms or is we had any questions about amenities. He even made it his mission and planned with me to personally decorate my friend's room for her birthday. He is a great person and he made our stay extra special. I definitely plan to stay there again in the future!
The food was excellent, the staff was great, awsome nightly entertainment, i will there again in November
All of the staff was very pleasant. I would advised to be bi-lingual because there is a language barrier if you don't speak spanish.

This trip has made us never want to go to Punta Cana again. Please take the reviews seriously before considering booking a trip here. There are way better options within the same price range, especially when you have to upgrade to royal level to make it tolerable. The food is terrible. The breakfast and lunch options at the buffet are basically the same everyday. The dinner restaurants were awful with very limited, odd menus. The service is beyond slow- over an hour wait for food. The royal restaurant is better quality and quicker service. To top it all off, my partner and I both got food poisoning on different days, so we lost 4 days of our trip. The rooms are very outdated. The shower gets water all over the bathroom floor. The air conditioning only sometimes worked and leaked on the floor so much it created puddles in the entryway and into the closet. The room felt gross overall and we never felt comfortable. The staff is not friendly to Americans and there's not a lot of staff that speaks clear English. We booked the romantic dinner on the beach and the waitress talked to us through google translate, which is annoying when we paid $150 for it. We did not trust the maids at all. They would knock once and immediately come in the room with towels and chocolate, once at 10 pm. We only received the chocolates and towels if we were in the room when they came, which was weird. The entertainment was all late at night and very loud.
