People were very accommodating, the bed was pretty good, but the place is getting run down. Great location
Good beds, very dated property, friendly staff
Super Hotel room for chilling and relaxing
On booking into the Hotel I was given an upgrade to Deluxe room which I believe is rooms 1 to 8. This upgrade was very much appreciated, and I would if visiting the hotel for personal reasons would definitely upgrade to Deluxe but with this visit being Business this option is not available for Company business
This hotel is advertised and presumably priced as '4 star'. Our experience of the hotel did not match this rating in spite of being given an upgrade to a room with a splendid view. The property was shabby and the daily maintenance of the bedroom/bathroom was questionable. The staff were pleasant.
There is no parking.
Noisy lift.
Our room(No 25) was right beside a Very noisy lift which was in use late into the night and from very early in the morning. This made sleeping difficult and any chance of a lie-in impossible. We also could not access the hotel fred wifi.
First and foremost the staff was wonderful and the bar was great! Everyone was super friendly. Parking was on site and easy. Location was a bit farther from town than lots of places, which we wanted so it would be quiet and we like to walk. However. There is no a/c and our room had a great view but was extremely hot. We opened the windows to let some fresh air in and it was like we were outside. Very very noisy rooms. We would wake up all night long to drunk people outside or people speeding by. And all morning from people delivering or checking into town. The other choice is sweat it out and close the windows. Still a cute place. Just don’t plan on sleeping.
Disappointing
This is not a 4 star hotel. Very poor standard of decor. Rooms are particularly poor standard. Place needs a total refurbishment. Very limited facilities. Lacking in any vibe or atmosphere. Good points were the multi tasking, pleasant staff (very few of them) and the clean bed linen and towels. Would not stay there again. Would not recommend.
Enjoyable stay
My husband and I stayed 3 nights in June, wishing it were more. We booked a king room and they gave us a corner room on the top floor facing the sea. The room was cosy, had a big tub, heated towel rack, openable window. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast, an additional £10 per person. It included eggs, beans, mushrooms, bacon, toast, yogurt, etc. The hotel is right on the water. You can easily walk to the downtown shops and restaurants in 15-20 minutes; to the ferry terminal in 25 minutes. We did the one day bus tour to isle of Mull and Iona which I recommend. We saw dolphins jumping and playing on the approach to the isle of Mull. The visit to the Abbey on Iona was wonderful. We were comfy in our room in the BW Muthu Oban and would stay there again.
The views and location
Overnight in Oban
Not enough staff. Those that there were were really good and helpful. The weather was dreadful and we were told the restaurant wasn’t open so we had to go to their sister hotel further up the prom for the restaurant. We did. The food was a buffet which though tasty wasn't hot enough. Hot plates would have helped. Restaurant drinks meant a long queue at the bar as no service. Food rather overpriced for the quality and a buffet. We had no remote for our TV and none could be found. We were glad we were only staying 1 night. This 1 night was well overpriced for the quality and services we had
Curtains didn’t block out the morning light, thin walls and ceiling. Heard people all night in the hall slamming doors and walking around, the guy above me was snoring like he was in my room with me. No do not disturb signs for doors, rooms turned daily weather needed or not. Main problem was the noise And the bright light entering my room. Had to wear earplugs and eye covers to sleep
Kind staff
Reception manager was so kind as I was unwell with a migraine. Just needed to sleep. They let us have our room 3 hours early and had even pulled all the curtains to make the room dark for me. Kind. Next day the same man asked if I was better. Chef came to personally ask if everything was ok during breakfast. Seemed to be a family business with more of a personal touch unlike the service in a big chain hotel.
Great location, comfortable bed 👍
Room smelled of smoke, the pipes/heating were very noisy.
Not great
No way this is a 4 🌟 hotel. 2 maybe, if you don't count the quality of the beds, which I would only expect to see in a homeless shelter. Might have been 3 🌟 40 years ago, but needs a lot of work to get up to even minimal Best Western standards.
Nobody available on departure, no place to leave room key.
It’s ok
The staff was friendly. The bed wasn’t that comfortable but it was clean. Parking was an extra expense despite being told there was free parking. There were very few spaces available for free parking. It was a little bit of a walk to town but not bad especially since the view was so beautiful. We were greeted by a friendly face upon arrival as well as checking out. It’s nothing special. It won’t stand out as outstanding but it also won’t ruin your trip.
Lovely 10-15 mins stroll along the promenade to the town centre. Nice scottish breakfast but lack of kippers and vegetarian sausages. Chef's amazing vegetarian Penne Arabiata was the best I have every had at dinner. Managed to get an on site car parking space but there is a lack of parking near by. if you do find a space on the promenade then be aware that the machines some times do not print a ticket so best pay by phone to avoid wasted money. There was a loud noise from a pump near my room that was not resolved during my stay and kept me awake at times.
It's an OK property. I would rate it as 3 star
Worst Western. Very disappointing experience
We stayed in the suite. A tired and drab room with wires hanging from the TVs and walls, with no pictures on the walls. The bedroom was noisy due to the outside humming of a generator. The ‘living spaces’ had vintage faux leather sofa set. Very uncomfortable. The restaurant food was plain with overcooked vegetables. The day we arrived there were new staff whom clearly had not been given any training. The cost in our opinion was extortionate for a very poor hotel that is well past its former glory. This is not in my opinion anything like the standard one expects from Best Western. Strongly recommend to choose a different hotel until Best Western management refurbishes it. We had booked for 3 nights and instead left promptly the next morning.
Hot rooms
Nice staff, hot hot hot rooms! Breakfast was a complete shambles
Really enjoyed our stay only couple of things too say im being picky regarding no tv remote in room and staff really helpful and freindly even though they were extremely short staffed would definitely stay again
Oban hotel short walk from town
Standard non-budget hotel. Does what it says on the tin. All the things you expect in a room. Good breakfast. Lounge area unbearably hot so not pleasant to enjoy a drink in there
Hotel location is great, when booking this hotel parking space was included but had to pay for parking on main road as the parking at the hotel is limited, hotel is a little bit run down but clean
The room had a sea view, which was nice. The room had some electric issues, plugs that were multiple points, date of checking out of date. The bed was comfy and the staff helpful.
Queens oban
Good room , clean and fresh. Breakfast was reasonable. Scramble eggs need to be cooked more. And was not advised restaurant was closed on visit. A bit of an inconvenient
It was a three day break and it was Nearly perfect if i Have one complaint it is that there wasn’t enough free parking although the receptionist did his best to squeeze us in. Didn’t eat in the hotel but did have an excellent breakfast on every morning. Hotel ideally situated for easily walking distance into Oban centre Would stay here again
Nice room
Nice room at the front of the hotel with sea view
To start with, this Hotel doesn't have a pool...
The Best Western Muthu Queens Hotel is in need of an upgrade. It is tired and hasn't evolved much in the last 20 years... Yet it is still priced as if it were in it's heyday. The main hotel building is a 1980's block hidden round the back of the prettier hotel front. The hotel has a bar (closed to COVID) and restaurant but the other facilities listed such as the Pool and spa aren't actually in this hotel but over at their sister hotel the 'Muthu Alexandra' To reach your room you journey through beat-up corridors with scenic views of a weed filled 'garden' and black bin bags. It was a reasonable sized room but with a worn interior that had been subject to many a 'quick fix' rather than a refurb. (Blotches of polyfilla used lavishly in multiple corners). A good sized tv and tea making facilities were provided but the mattress was old and not particularly comfortable. The Jacuzzi bath was a nice touch but the paper thin walls meant I could hear my neighbour relieving himself in the toilet next door. Breakfast was very poor: greasy, tepid and prepared from an angry chef who we could hear barking at the staff from the dining room. The audibility of his yelling also made us presume that he wasn't wearing a face mask- which is concerning. A pot on instant coffee and some lumpy milk (yep they couldn't get milk right!) literally left a bad taste in my mouth and was a good summary of the stay. A good location but nowhere near worth the money. I certainly wouldn't recommend it.
The Basically closed Muthu Queens Hotel
Do not book the Queens hotel unless you know for sure it is fully open. We arrived to find the hotel only had one corridor with rooms open and heated and a note to say go to the Alexandra hotel for key to room. No reception, no bar, no restaurant, no staff. Went to Alexandra Hotel 100 yds away and said we wouldnt stay in the Queens hotel as it was basically closed. They offered us ( the only room they had in the Alexandra )in an out building which was basically used by road workers, who parked there earth moving machinery directly infront of our room and left every morning around seven. But as we were only there for a couple of days we accepted as room inside was warm and comfortable. So the review for the room is for the alexadra hotel. The Muthu Queens hotel maybe a nice hotel but did not get to find out as it was basically closed and a security risk as no staff.
Slightly expensive to what it offers . But Oban is a lovely town so worth the stay
Suppossed to stay in the queens hotel but moved to alexandria didnt matter as theStaff were very friendly and helpful.if i was staying in oban i wpuldgo back there
The staff were fantastic, home from home.we look forward to coming back not to mention friends that called want to come here.
NOT the Queens but the Alexandra.
I was phoned before arrival to collect my key from the sister hotel the Alexandra. On arrival it was explained that although we could stay at the Queens would have to get breakfast at the Alexandra. The option to stay in the Alexandra was offered. We decided to take this option and were given Room 2 on the 3rd floor although the room was cold on arrival it soon heated up and was very pleasant. Although the bathroom is small it is functional and clean. Breakfast was well cooked and good choice all served at the table. One point that I noted was that some staff do not wear face coverings which was disappointing as other COVID precautions such as hand sanitiser were everywhere.
Worked there 50 years ago and wanted to see the place again. Liked the relaxed atmosphere created by the staff. Extractor fan in the bathroom faulty but staff extremely helpful about this.
Great Stay at The Queens
I was travelling in business so had a single room, number 6. Initially I thought it would be too noisy as it is above the bar and I could hear muffled voices however by 9.30pm there was silence. The jacuzzi bath was immaculate, plenty of hot water and do relaxing. I liked that the window opened so it wasn't stuffy and I could fall asleep to the sound of the waves. The bed and pillows were super comfy and the bed linen was really good quality cotton, nice and silky. The blonde girl on reception was really lovely. Breakfast was nice.
GOOD HOTEL WELL MAINTAINED...
GOOD HOTEL WITH EXCELLENT AMENITIES.. ONLY ISSUE IS THERE ARE NO LIFTS AND SEEN A FEW STRUGGLING OLD PEOPLE ON STAIRS.
Welcoming and friendly.
Excellent room with a bay view. Stunning! Extremely helpful and polite staff. The visit got of to a good start with a warm welcome from the receptionist.
Water view but small room far from the entrance. Insufficient parking.
Muthu queens hotel Oban
Our stay was good but the rooms were a bit small
Located near attractions we wanted to see. Building and room were dated. Can hear all movement and talking from rooms above and around you. Does not include a free breakfast
Was disappointed in size and quality of the room for the high price
terrible stay
We were extremely disappointed in our stay at this Best Western brand hotel. We realise that it's an old hotel however it is not well maintained. Our room was right beside the elevator that made extremely loud noise all night long. We pulled back the curtains to open the window and the inside of the curtains were covered in black mold. Parking is very limited. We tried to watch TV in the evening and there was only 2 channels to choice from as the rest of the channels were scrambled. We would never recommend this hotel to any family or friends.
Disappointed
Very disappointed considering the cost expected better
Great views from the suite booked but the curtains need some TLC as well as some of the walls and ceilings. Staff were friendly
Great property and room. Incredibly friendly reception.
Our stay at the Best Western Oban
We stayed at the hotel for one night. The twin room was small so we opted for a suite instead at extra cost which was well worth it. The menu was very basic and breakfast was okay. Overall staff were friendly and hotel in a great location.
Great situation
Great situation overlooking the bay, short walk into the town, helpful staff, small car park
Elevator access from 1st floor only and difficult access. Parking limited and had to park 300m away and have disabled parking for 1 car only. Food choice same dinner menu 3 nights running and mimimal staff working meant very long delays.
Not my usual 4 star hotel
We stayed for 2 nights. I cannot understand why it’s a 4 star hotel. Parking spaces are very limited and road is pay parking. Decor very dated. It was very difficult to get to our room and wasn’t offered any help. The few staff we saw where pleasant. However, I cannot justify the star rating and cost.
Loved the "comfort" room I'd been given. It was a cute, prettily decorated, very clean room with all the basic amenities a solo traveler could need. It felt safe and comfortable. My neighbors weren't loud or scary like I'd imagined before checking in. The view from outside the hotel is gorgeous and the pavement well lit. So strolling after the sun had set didn't seem like a daunting affair :) The room and bathroom were cleaned spotless while I was out seeing the isles of West Scotland. Overall, I had a great stay and would totally recommend Best Western Muthu Queens Hotel for female solo travelers.
Hotel staff were efficient, but lacked personality and the expected welcome, however the restaurant staff were more helpful and friendly. The room was fine, but convoluted stair/lift combination was tortuous with bags
Excellent..staff great..will stay again.queen Victoria suit spot on..keep up good work..
Great location and service. Amenities good. Rooms rather tired
Not welcoming
I booked a deluxe room and paid over 200 and when I got to the hotel I spend close to 15 mins showing the woman at the front desk my confirmation but as she did not see it, this turned into be an issue. I feel she did not want to give us this room as I was in a T-shirt and jeans. Well it does not matter but i am an attorney on NYC and a solicitor and am horrified at the welcome I was given. Very embarrassing in front of my partner and other guests.
The hotel was centrally located to visiting Oban. The room and washroom were clean and comfortable. The breakfast area was huge and the meal was delicious.
No Jacuzzi bath, but good location
A bit of a walk from the main promenade but close enough. Option to park the car was useful. I have stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed the use of the Jacuzzi bath. On booking via Hotels.com a bath was listed under the facilities, and actually highlighted that the room I was booking was bath only. However after checking in I only had a shower. The room was fine apart from that. I now know that some rooms have the baths and some don't. It would be good if this was made clear on booking as I may have chosen somewhere else.
Comfortable and clean room. Not enough staff. They were overstretched but remained cheerful.
Bad customer service.
Front desk personnel needs to be more helpful with guests need. Rude and didn’t offer any help with request and buffed with guest that we need to read the fine print of hotel amenities.
A wonderful find . Staff were so helpful from the moment we arrived . Beautiful food and meal times were very efficiently handled by the bar/waitresses.. The manager was a delightful gentleman who welcomed us every time we saw him and chatted to us about how we were and what plans we had for our days our abc about . Will definitely be back
Great location on the bay. Staff really nice even charged my phone for me as I left my charger behind, bed huge and comfy will be back
Excellent a one night stay very good. Would recommy
Hot and bothered
Room was so hot it was unbearable - the general condition of the hotel is tired and the staff were courteous but not really interested.
Comfy night in Oban at the Queens
It was all good, clean room, staff really pleasant and interested, food was excellent and reasonably priced-what was there not to like really!
Birthday Weekend.
Great hotel with lovely staff. Room 5 we have stayed in before. Great view, ultra comfy bed, clean and jet bath a bonus. Decor maybe a wee bit tired but value still superb. Breakfast superb. We come here often and will be back.
Location amazing, room very noisy with lift and no soundproofing between rooms so I hear other peoples conversations. Lighting and no music downstairs made it feel a bit cold and unwelcoming.
The room was very disappointing. 4 star hotel ??? It smelt bad and the window was closed with heat on. That just brought out more smell. The bed covers and pillows smelt bad too . Would not recommend . Receptionist seemed moody and didn’t tell us the WiFi code
Breakfast is good. The hotel lacks much atmosphere and the rooms are a tad tired. The bathrooms are sparkly and new.
It was a lovely stay, staff, room even the partial view was lovely. I recommend it.
Room sound proofing very limited, you could hear what was going on in the next room, talking, snoring and people clopping around in the room above, Very disappointing restaurant, Very limited menu, no Gluten Free menu, 20 minutes delay on booked table, eventually ate out, Hotel on side of bay yet bay view, costing an additional charge, consisted of a view from rooms in a building at the behind the main building through a gap in between two buildings, lifts only accessible after a climb up a flight of stairs to the first floor and a walk to the accommodation at the back
friendly welcome on arrival and assistance with places to eat
Not the best Best Western
Hotel very clean. Room very small. Staff friendly and obliging. Food ok. Breakfast not great quality. Had dinner with my grandson in dining room. It was quite good except for grandson’s steak which was more fat and gristle than meat so mostly inedible. The server didn’t ask why it was left uneaten so I mentioned it during checkout and was told I’d get a reduction on my bill. I did ... 10p. Yes 10 pence. I didn’t notice until after I’d left. I’m hoping it was a mistake and was meant to be £10. I’ve stayed in several Oban hotels and guest houses within the past couple of years and this is one definitely isn’t the best! It’s a pity as it is so clean so someone clearly cares.
No parking around , good breakfast, kind of old fashion hotel.
Anniversary break
Hotel was lovely staff professional. Room was clean, spacious and lovely view. Nice walk into the town would return again.
Felt there was need for extractor fan in bathroom and you should advertise limited free parking not just free parking.
Really old and full stairways and misdirections.
This place is a maze of hallways, stairways, elevators on three floors. It is a nightmare.Rooms are small with no air. Windows barely open. Needs so much work. Maintenance is not done here.
Enjoyed our stay (again)
3rd visit to this hotel, slightly different this time as new owners. No problem parking car at hotel for duration of visit. We paid extra for 'Superior' room, huge window, unfortunately we were looking out on the back of the hotel not the Bay. Food was good but evening meal is a set menu, 3 courses, 3 choices each, priced either 3 course or 2 courses. Unfortunately can be quite late in the day before menu finalised and available for guests. We went out one evening in pouring rain for fish and chips as we didn't like anything on the limited menu. Staff were all pleasant, friendly, helpful, excellent in fact.
The location of this hotel was on the waterfront which was really helpful for catching the ferries to both the Isles of Mull and Iona.
Hotel with a view Oban
Staff were very efficient and friendly food was good. Room clean and tidy. Great location. Jacuzzi bath was fantastic. Only down side could be lack of parking at the hotel however there is street parking across the road from the hotel which guest have to pay.
A quick and friendly check in. Room was lovely. Wifi reached our room. A short walk into town with lots of choices for drinks and food. Main supermarkets are a good drive away.
Overpriced. Advertised parking onsite but minimal for needs. Park down street at "sister hotel" (Alexandra). Why not just stay there.
Not too impressed to be honest. Not a bad place, but certainly not too good either. Walls were very thin, bed wasn't too comfy and the room needed a refurb. But they did have a good breakfast, so I can almost forgive them. Almost...
Disappointed
Booked and presumably paid extra for a room with a sea view. Upon arrival was told that no sea facing rooms were available. I felt that a discount should have been offered.
A comfortable friendly clean hotel
The title says it all. Good breakfast, and we dined in the hotel restaurant one evening and it was excellent quality and value.
Beautiful Oban
Location was great, parking was first in and was a problem for some, breakfast ok
Hotel was nice, food was good but parking in the tiny car park was awful. Staff in the dinning room were very nice.
Not such a bad hotel Just pricey for what you get, as it is a bit basic
Good location
Good location nice and quiet. Staff very good, breakfast plentiful
Inclusive professional and relaxing seaside hotel
Accomadation to suit all types Super setting in historic Oban Obligingly helpful staff
hotel was ok but there is clearly a lack of parking spaces. Old tired decor inside the restaurant and in the rooms. bedroom walls are very badly insulated as we could hear people next door snoring at 4am!
Fabulous stay
On arrival, we spoke to front office and we were upgraded, for a very reasonable fee to the Queen Victoria suite in the main building overlooking the bay! The suite had three rooms - a very large bedroom, a bathroom and a lounge area with two leather lounges, and a table and comfortable chairs where we could sit with a drink or cup of tea. The room also had a fridge where we could keep our cold drinks for travelling. The breakfast was wide and varied, hot and cold. The views were fantastic! There was limited parking but ample overnight street parking after 6pm. A lovely short 3 minute stroll into town.
Expensive compared to another hotel of the same group that we stayed in on the same holiday. Parking is limited Wi fi was AWFUL
Parking was limited, I don't think it is a star hotel.
Quaint little hotel.
This is a welcoming hotel in a beautiful location. Very comfortable and with an excellent restaurant.
Ok hotel. Rooms are clean but small and furnishings could use an upgrade. About a 10min walk to the harbor area where the restaurants are.
Not the best
Car parking a joke not many free places parking on roadside during day £1.20 an hour no atmosphere in hotel rooms not laid out very well can hear noises from other rooms and doors banging breakfast not everything available
Disappointed
Thought a four star hotel would have a lift but had to go up one flight of stairs to get lift to our floor. View just to back of building to see staff standing smoking. First morning breakfast ver disappointing. Coffee cold, no side plates out and most of hot food was tepid. Second morning was an improvement but nobody took our used plates away. We were thinking of having dinner on our second night but we’re tol that no meals as there had been “ An issue in the kitchen “ and told we could eat in the hotel up the road. It would have helped to see a menu but none offered.
Very good
