We had a couple of nights here recently and the very friendly staff and management made us feel very welcome indeed.
Short stay
Good location on the edge of the town centre. Easy walking to shops and bars. The rooms are looking a little tired and would benefit from a spruce up. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant was really good, exceeding expectations.
The property is outdated. The heat was not working in the room. The breakfast was very limited and not fresh. There was no coffee machine. They only had black coffee. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone
Awesome
Beautiful reception, lovely departure. Location awesome
Tired. Disjointed service. Odd
Stood at reception for 20 mins on arrivals log with 4 other parties, to an empty reception. Rung the bell, shouted and walked around. No answer. Eventually found a KP in the kitchen to try find receptionist which took another 10mins. Rooms clean but a mess of decor. Corridors are tired and the photos online make it look way better than it is. Want to support a local hotel but the premier in is a safer bet.
Our room was small and uncomfortable. The property didn’t seem kept up very well and could use some updates. The staff were friendly but we did not enjoy our stay so we would not return.
Staff were super friendly and the rooms were quiet and clean. There is no lift so getting my suitcase up and down the stairs was a little cumbersome.
L'hotel est conforme à la description. La chambre était propre. Il y avait un parking gratuit pour la voiture. Un peu déçu par le repas du soir...
Friendly staff
Perfect for our short stay!
lovely hotel with nice staff and great location
Not sure how I booked Muthu, didn’t read the reviews apparently. It is old, smells musty, you can’t drink the water! The walls are so thin we heard snoring and full conversations next door. On top of this TV came on at 4 am on its own, repeatedly, until we unplugged it. Positives - great location, comfortable bed.
Lovely staff
We arrived at the hotel during an atrocious spell of weather- Storm Ashley was approaching. We were welcomed by the lovely Roseanne who was very friendly, professional and helpful. The hotel is in need of updating. It is a peculiar mix of 1970's kitsch, 1990's pattern and oriental design. The hotel does not appear to have been maintained properly as several things weren't working or were missing. The central heating in the hotel was not working. We were provided with a small electric heater for the room which was helpful but the rest of the hotel was very cold. We went for dinner in the restaurant as the weather was becoming quite wild outside. The food was lovely and served on hot plates but as the restaurant/hotel was so cold the food became cold very quickly. Such a shame. The wind was very high during our first night due to the storm. There was a problem with the window seal and there was a constant sound like a very loud, angry wasp... I had to phone to reception for someone to come and clean the bathroom as there was a large collection of hair around the edges. The remote control for the main light dimmer wasn't working and we couldn't get the table lamp to work. The staff were quick to respond and the bathroom was cleaned to a higher standard. We felt the staff were working extremely hard with limited resources. Thankfully some heating did come on during our second day. Lovely staff in a hotel that could be lovely with an upgrade and proper maintenance.
Average stay
Lovely room with loch view. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast and brilliant staff.
Great Location/Service with subpar room and food
The service was 5/5 stars and the people were very helpful. Location is also prime for Fort William and walkable to the town. The restaurant food was not very good in quality (would recommend going somewhere in town like Ben Nevis or the Geographer) and the room was much under par for what we expected. 3 star expereince
beautiful views, nice staff
We had an awful stay as had very little sleep because of a constant fan/ventilator noise buzzing all night. No refund for room or food offered. Waiting staff polite but will not return
👍
Weekend in Fort William
Pros Clean room good breakfast excellent staff Location Cons Room on the small side for a delux room
A very understaffed and disorganised hotel. Our room was not ready on arrival. Second day we were locked out and had to represent to reception to gain access. Rooms were poorly sound proofed and could hear everything going on next door and the next floor. Poor water pressure in the shower and the shower drain was inadequate backing up from the last person to shower. Corridor was blocked in the afternoon due to housekeeping sorting a massive amount of dirty linen in the hallway. There is no drinking water in the room and needs to be sourced from reception who seem to not be present due to other duties most of the time. The staff tried very hard to Please but are obviously overstretched. Rooms are clean otherwise. Beds comfy. I would not stay again.
Friendly and very helpful staff. Clean and bright room. Easy parking and access to downtown
Vanessa was excellent as well as all the staff we interacted with. Flight of whiskey was great price and a nice view to enjoy. Room was very small but we had a nice view.
Great service from Vanessa and Rose Ann !!!! The property itself needs major updates. Not having electric outlets in the room that are not hidden, behind a TV or none in in the bath is ridiculous for this rate. No refrigerator in a room at this rate. Sub standard Convenience to Fort William and a great staff help w the poor room.
Window did not close. About 16 inches to walk sideways around the foot of the bed. Some lights did not work. No clothes hanger in bathroom. Complained after first night. They relocated us. Window did not close, warped. Toilet seat was wrong size for the bowl. Think about that one. NEVER EVER STAYING THERE AGAIN!
Great location and good room.
Old property requiring renovations. Window was open upon arrival and would not fully close. Shower was extremely small. Hairdryer provided but did not work
Nice few but next to a busy road
Nice location excellent service
Location and service was excellent. Food was very good. The rooms are a bit old. Venting the corridors is needed as there are stale cooking smells.
Breakfast was wonderful!
Rose Ann was accommodating and friendly.
A comfortable older hotel. Bed were comfortable and plenty of free bottled water is provided. Highlight of the place was friednly and outstanding personnel.
Don’t stay here, lift didn’t work heating didn’t work so badly in need of renovations
Good stay
Good one night stay, halfway between Isle of Skye and Glasgow for us. Central location, across from the water and close to hiking and outdoor opportunities. The restaurant looked nice, but we arrived later than planned and ate at a nearby Wetherspoon pub. Older property but had some opulence to the decor, which made it interesting.
Towels had blood stain on them. No mineral water. No minibar. No room service. Very poor experience.
The property advertised laundry as an amenity..apparently the laundry has been out of service for quite some time with no plans to have it fixed. The showers were either full on hot or full on cold. The staff was very good but treated poorly by the management and bemoaned the fact that the place was too old and in poor repair. The location is fair if you plan on taking the train but I will stay somewhere else next time.
Friendly staff. Hotel was clean but very tired. Breakfast was ok.
Rose Ann and John. Were absolutely fabulous. The manager very professional
Disgustingly horrible hotel. Save your time, money, and energy and DO NOT STAY HERE. The hotel called us multiple times to confirm what time we would be arriving. By the third call within a few hours we were annoyed and confused. We then learned on a later call that they were “experiencing technical difficulties” and could no longer honor our reservation the night of check in as we were driving there. When we asked what the technical difficulties were and if they had just given our room away they just kept repeating "technical difficulties”. Upon pressing them on the matter they revealed “the ceilings caving in”. Which they knew about before we even booked but chose to scramble and wait (till 8pm as we were driving to check in) to say that we no longer have a room. Instead of giving us another room or paying to put us in a nearby hotel. They sent us to a bed and breakfast that they assured me had the same accommodations as their hotel. Then upon our arrival to the bed and breakfast we learned that they lied about everything and sent us to a b&b that was new and not set up yet. There was no breakfast, no WiFi, no heating, no hot water, no free onsite parking, a room so small I couldn’t fit my baby’s portable crib, and they failed to inform us that the B&B only accepted cash which we did not have that large a sum on us. I attempted to reach out to the hotel yet they ignored my calls, messages, and did absolutely nothing to make it up to my family. Absolutely unprofessional!
Great stay
We booked this hotel at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room and the hotel overall. We would stay here again for sure. Reception and restaurant staff were excellent and helpful.
Rose Ann is a credit to the hotel. Well done Rose Ann
The staff were very accommodating to our late arrival from Scotrail. The rooms are very quaint and we enjoyed the unique furnishings and atmosphere of the hotel. The beds were very comfortable and we had a great view from our rooms 39 & 41. All the staff were wonderful! We’d highly recommend this hotel to stay in Fort William!
Not too bad
Decent spot close to everything, an older hotel but our choices were limited so that's why we chose. Not a bad stay, friendly staff clean room, ok breakfast
There were bedbugs on my bed and I woke up with dozens of bug bites on my body, my neck, and the back of my head. I brought up the issue with the reception lady and she said they would check it but insisted there are no bedbugs in Scotland. I googled it later not surprisingly there are bedbugs in Scotland this season. BE AWARE OF THAT!!
The staff were helpful and friendly, the beds were comfortable and clean.
As a Property the place is a mash up. We stayed in the annex that up the stairs, out a fire door then down another flight of stairs. The design and number of carpet choices was mostly a miss from different section of hotel. Personnel however was very nice and willing to help.
Easily accessible. Parking is limited. Great service!
This is a very nice and adorable hotel in Fort William. Can't tell from the outside just how nice it is. The hotel staff was very friendly, kind and helpful. Th employee when I checked in (Vanessa or Veronica, I forget) was very sweet and helpful and I enjoyed talking to her for a bit upon checkin. Dinner at the restaurant was tasty and the staff there also very kind and helpful. The hotel is very close to city center and able to walk to shopping or food or down to the lake. Highly recommend.
I was told I would be credited, the hotel claims its Expedias fault and Expedia says its hotels fault
Very comfortable room. The hotel is dated but clean. They provided snacks & water bottles(glass) free of charge. No complaints.
Great location. Property was very well maintained in public spaces and room.
Great food options, great staff, room size was good.
Too expensive for a rather run down property.
Wonderful stay!
Staff was wonderful. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and to assist us. The hotel was quaint and full of character. Also, we tried breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant during our stay and both were delicious!
Don’t stay here!
The hotel claims to have upgraded rooms, but the room were small, dirty, like something from the 1970s. The flat screen tv (only modern thing) was hanging on the wall at a 30 degree angle - missing screws from the mounting bracket. B’fast is over at 9am - great when you’re on holiday. Only redeeming factor was very nice staff. I feel sorry that they have to work in such a shabby environment. Definitely not value for money would never stay here again.
Very pretty interior but building is quite old and the lift doesn't go to all the upstairs rooms. The room was very nice but on front of property near a busy road very noisy. Good view of the harbor but I would have preferred a quiet room
Great place to stay
Great food and honest staff as we left an IPad in the bar. Great selection of breakfast foods.
Fantastic breakfast the best we had in the UK. Good staff that were very attentive.
The staff were the stand out part of our stay at this hotel, so so lovely and couldn't do enough for us. We ate at the restaurant and the food was nice. Rooms were perfect for what we needed it for, we only stayed one night, they even packages us up a sandwich and some snacks for our climb as we had already paid for the breakfast, but wanted to take it with us. Service really was amazing, good location, would recommend for a short stay.
Fine hotel, but massively overpriced for what it is.
Old school charm
We had a fantastic experience staying at the MGM.
Good room
A one night stop. Good room and breakfast.
3 star going on 1 star hotel!
this hotel sells on it's view location, which turns out to be nothing special. It is maybe a 2 star hotel. all furniture is junk. bed felt like a piece of plywood with springs coming through. many stairs to climb to get to rooms. the lift is the size of a coffin, and felt like one. The foreign staff are congenial and try very hard to make the stay pleasant. food is okay at best. We would never stay in this chain's hotel again anywhere.
Convenient
We would recommend
The staff was very friendly, the breakfast was good, and the location was great for us.
Hotel breakfast was great but the smell of fuel was so strong!! Hard to breathe at times with horrible gas smell.
Beautiful place.
The staff and service were exceptional. Breakfast buffet was outstanding too! We also had dinner there one night. Impeccable service and the food was very good. Try the Apple Tea - it was so soothing and delicious!
Really enjoyable stay, parking was a bit tight but fine for us for 2 nights. Staff are fantastic, I haven’t had such a pleasant, helpful, and accommodating staff in ages. The dinner and breakfast were both good with dinner being very good. Walls are a bit thin but that is likely the age of the property issue.
Checked me in a few hours early without hesitation. Gracious staff. Everything is within walking distance. Good refresh after walking the WHW.
Nice clean hotel, great staff, well appointed rooms, hotel is tired though, needs updating by staff are doing their best with what they have
Indifferent service. I arrived at 10pm after a long journey and was very tired but had to wait 10 minutes before somebody was available to check me in No central heating in very cold bedroom ( no 9) and no hot water . Tacky little room carved out of a bigger one. Entire hotel has seen better times . Aspired to Exotic Marigold Hotel but failed
Awesome place great staff 5star
Comfortable bed and clean
A little disappointing.
A distinctly average stay at best. Given this is in a very touristy, highland location I am not sure why the hotel reception looks more like a nightclub. The room was fine and clean but could do with an upgrade, especially the bathroom. Given this is one of the more prominent hotels in the town, and the first big one you see as you arrive from the south, it looks dated and disappointing. I took a chance on staying here and a bit sorry I did. Breakfast staff were very helpful as was check-in staff, no complaints there. Really, it is the ambiance of the hotel that lets it down. Staff were lovely, it was clean just the decor was was outdated and lacking in design. It is the whole experience that is important, I am not sure what visitors from outside Scotland must make of the hotel, not a good first impression.
Not a good place to stay
Fort William Retreat
Wonderful hotel on the Loch. Just a short stroll to all restaurants bars if you don't use the hotels amenities (which are top notch ) Large carpark (free) Staff are very friendly, helpful and polite. My room was spacious clean, with free tea & coffee.
Would stay again great breakfast
Good stay
Good stay. Well situated hotel. Room clean and comfortable if a little cold but heaters provided, shower small but powerful and water lovely and hot. Staff friendly and helpful, meals good and large portions. Would stay again.
We had to tell the staff about the rustiness of the place, I suffer with asthma and I had a very bad flare up, for the price for those nights I would expect the place to be more clean than it was. Areas of the room were not hoovered and there was dust everywhere.
Excellent stay
Really comfortable room. Nice and warm. Everything you would need. Shower was excellent and warm. Breakfast really good.
Lovely hotel nice rooms, nice breakfast
Goood location Good hotel
Lovely hotel
We had to wait 15 minutes before anyone even showed up at the reception desk, 3 of the 4 coffee cups in our room were still dirty and sticky and the bathroom was not clean the back of the door was covered in stuff that wiped off if you touched it so would have been easily cleanable and there was hair in the bathroom that didn’t belong to any of us which I found very gross.
Did not like the food, very poor
Not as advertised
It seems to me that the room was not occupied for a while. Everything was dusted, and there was garbage under the bed. The room was not soundproof either.
Awful stay, had to leave early!!
I stay in hotels frequently with work around the world and this I quite possibly the worst I have ever stayed in!! I had to check out two days earlier because of this! Woke up both mornings I did stay with fresh bites on my legs. I come back from work late around 2300-0000 to a freezing cold room and no hot water (they only have the heating on during set times along with the hot water I guess). The duvet on the bed was so thin so I barely slept due to being absolutely freezing in bed! I ate once in the restaurant I had the chicken curry, if you could call it chicken, mainly grizzle and awful, couldn’t finish it along with the microwave rice. By the second cold sleepless night I decided to check out at around 0600, enough was enough for me. Went to reception to check out and no one there, rang the bell several times and waited about ten mins still no one came so I just left the card and went, I’ve also messaged them 3 times via the hotels.com app and no reply!! I left my charger in the room as I packed in a hurry!! Terrible hotel please don’t stay here!!!
Friendly and efficient staff. Some flickering lights and a bulb out in the bathroom and fan heater broken. Nice touch with crisps and chocolates in the room but not replenished on third night.
clean
clean comfortable and a great breakfast and good location for fort william
👍
You can hear your neighbors in the next room. Our bathroom had a leak in the ceiling. Staff was polite and friendly. Did not try the food because we chose to eat outside of the hotel. Checking in and out was easy.
The bed was very uncomfortable and the fire alarm kept going off
Dated hotel and overpriced
Hotel is way dated. It is overpriced.
The Hotel has a lovely view over the Loch, the meal was very tasty & we were well looked after by the staff, especially Jahn & Vanessa.
It was perfect

Lovely hotel, the room was huge as was the bed and shower. The.staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very.good its a buffet set up but with plenty of choice and was replenished regularly. The evening meal was mixed the tikka massala was excellent but the chicken supreme was a little dry. ithe stay was excellent value for money and we will definitely be returning
