Fantastic stay, history on display. So many activities in walikng distance.
This is a historic hotel, so it will not be as sound insulated as a modern hotel. However, if you want character, central location, and a good value for the money, then this is your place.
Was a historical hotel. Very close to the Alamo and close to river walk. Housekeeping was sparse every 4 days and was supposed to be on request, but when I did request on day 3 they didnt come.
I liked the historic nature of the property, however, our room stayed a bit warm for our comfort. We bought a small fan to help out.
Old but Good location.
Old and the heat doesn’t work. They hand you are card at check in that says this hotel is old and they can only have ac or heat. Our room never got warmer than 65.
If you are wanting to stay at a piece of history look no further than Menger, you will not be disappointed. Its beauty and architect is something to see. The building next to it is the Alamo and directly across the street is the River Walk. Give it 10 stars if i could.
hotel location is excellent. in an old hotel but clean and the air condition system operating is average in some rooms.
No problems with this hotel! Everything has been great!
Everything has been great! The people & the facilities!
Spooky Prices
Staying in a very old hotel has its pros and cons. If the hotel chooses to run AC, you cannot heat your room - it is one or the other for the entire hotel. In other words, climate control is incredibly outdated. The dining area was "nice" but way overpriced and the food was as sad as the typical riverwalk tourist trap restaurants. Construction was all around the hotel. Not one person did anything to make my stay special. Valet parking was expensive, and they tried to charge me an extra day. Overall, I was not impressed - didn't even get to see a ghost.
Dhdh
No heating at your convenience, check in not very welcoming , just stare at you. Parking communication not very good with each other.
Location is great. Love this historic hotel. Very classy in a touristy area.
Beautiful hotel
It was excellent! Love downtown San Antonio!
The property was beautiful. The rooms very comfortable. Front desk and valet staff just great. Very centrally located. The room service staff very nice. However, the food served by room service left a lot to be desired. My Thai Chicken Salad was ghastly. Wrecking a salad takes some doing. They need to imporce the recipe or just take it off the menu. Grocery store bagged salad is better and so much less expensive. Take my advice and pick up sandwiches, salads and snacks at any of the many stores and restaurants in the Alamo Plaza and store them in the mjni fridge in your room.
Be aware that there is a $45 overnight wallet charge—make sure to read the descriptions carefully. Additionally, check the parking facilities around the hotel, as the fees are outrageous. While the hotel may appear to offer a reasonable price, parking is the hidden cost to watch out for.
Everything was absolutely wonderful.
Lots of construction and couldn’t find the entrance to the hotel, after going in circles for 20 minutes we finally found it. I’m sure the excess will be better once they finish with the renovation of the street.
Loved the old charm. Just a great history. Beds were comfortable. It was quiet, except you can hear the neighbors next door and out in the plaza. Didn’t seem like it was really busy. The valets were great. We never used our car, we were parked close to everything we wanted to explore. Tacos place attached to the hotel was excellent.
Loved the historical significance of the entire area. Also, close proximity to the Alamo, Rivercenter mall, the tower of the Americas, the river walk, and Denny’s !
Room small
Room was alittle small. We had the classic king. Expected better service. Belle took care of us when arriving. She was great. Room was cold. Finally asked for heater . It help alot . I guess i just expected better service. Ask for accessible room. There was none available. It made it difficult when taking shower. Hotel location was awesome. Close to everything. Parking so expensive. Should include it with room.
plaza construction underway
Great stay, and an amazing complementary upgrade on our room!
Outdated hotel m. Restroom had mold
We have stayed here in the past. It’s a cool historic hotel. The location is perfect to walk to the River Walk , restaurants and shopping.
Perfect Christmas Getaway
Absolutely amazing! Beautiful hotel, full.of history and charm. Friendly staff and perfect location to enjoy the Alamo and River Walk at Christmas time.
The shower wouldn't stay at one temperature. Going from very hot to very cold and back many times during a short shower. A lot of noise in the middle of the night. No sign of security. Breakfast in the restaurant (buffet) was ok, but service could have been much better.
Loved it and the History behind it !!! Just be patient due to all the remodeling (construction)around the DT area
Close to everything !!! Will be back
Staff, location, decor was excellent!
Truly an enjoyable experience! We just spent one night as just one of those time to take a couple days away. Beautiful decoration's for Christmas in the lobby. Enjoy the breakfast buffet, which had everything we like. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Valet staff was friendly and prompt bringing our car when we left. Location is great. Everything we like was in walking distance.
Couples get away
We had a great stay! Three nights. We didn’t have breakfast on the property, $25 buffet for eggs and bacon and fruit bar seemed a little steep. They have made to order but we opted for local breakfast. $25 a day ballet parking, we were expecting that, only says parking available which was true. Great location, right next to The Alamo.
this location is just a prime spot. its my choice to go stay at whenever i am in san antonio. walking distance to the river and just adjacent to the alamo. highly recommmend
I have been staying at the Menger since 2015 and it is my favorite Hotel in San Antonio. The history and the feel of the Hotel is always amazing. The staff have always been great. I am planning on staying the weekend before Christmas , I cant wait.
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this property because on the first night of my stay, a Sunday night, they scheduled a large private party outdoors right below my hotel window with a live band and a DJ that went till 11 PM. I could repeatedly hear glass beer bottles being tossed into trash cans somewhere below my window and it sounded as if it was in my own room. Basically the whole thing sounded like a frat party – no exaggeration. Of course I wasn’t warned of this when I made the reservation, nor did they mention it when I checked in that same day. Nor did management contact me with any sort of apology for making me listen to this for hours on a Sunday night. And yes, I had made them aware of the significance of this disruption to my stay. Unless you can be assured that this sort of disturbance won't happen to you, I would not book this hotel.
Great Location, Comfy Rooms,
The room smelled musty, like something in there was wet.
Kel
The Menger has always been our favorite place to go to because it feels like a home away from home.
It’s okay
It was alright. Place smelt old.
Hotel and room were great, as usual. Great bar.
Hard to get in too
Great hotel!
The valet parking staff is awesome. We waited for a taxi for a long time and they eventually offers to drive us to the restaurant.
Birthday getaway. Very enjoyable in this historic setting.
Valet parking was not disclosed at the time of booking. It costed me 45$ per day.
Great stay at the Menger. We enjoyed walks to the Alamo and the river walk which was all lit up for the Holidays. Construction around the Alamo Plaza introduced some minor troubles getting around.
Construction everywhere, uber driver didn’t know where to drop off since front door is blocked by construction. Pool was dirty.
Paper thin walls…heard everything our neighbors said and did. Check in associate was rude and did not mention anything about the room mini fridge needing to be turned on. Disappointed.
Great historic place. If you want polished corporate-style hotel then this is not the place for you. It has a really wonderful old world charm.
Great historic hotel.
The property was fine the only drawback is all the construction going on all around the city. Im sure it will be very nice when completed.
It is so beautiful and historic. As expected it was a challenge to get to it with all the construction. but the valet parking was a definite bonus. I was also disappointed that the restaurants were both closed so early in the evening.
They knew there would be no air conditioning before booking or checking in. They didn't bother to divulge that information.
Love the place. Just needs a hot tub!!
Stayed at the Menger for a family reunion. The location gave easy passage to the riverwalk and numerouds restaurants. The Menger itself is a treasured museum of old San Antonio historty. There was some incovenience due to the construction remaking the Alamo Plaza.
Great location and hotel, but a pity about all the construction!
Loved ithis
My wife loves this property so we stay.
Tim was great! He took the time to make sure that everything was taken care of that my best friend had a room close to us! He was courteous and did a great job!
Nice place
The hotel was beautiful and staff were very pleasant. The beds however were another story. Probably one of the most uncomfortable beds I have slept in. They really need to upgrade. The only other downside was $48.00 daily fee for valet parking. This is the highest I have ever paid and it was not disclosed until after booking. If you want convenience and history in a lovely setting then this is perfect.
Great place to stay, closer to everything
Super cool hotel.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
This is a beautiful old hotel with a lot of history. The staff keep it very clean and polished! It was within walking distance to all the things we wanted to enjoy. We did have a problem with noise. The balcony below our window on the third floor had partying guests that kept us up til the wee hours of the morning. I complained and was told this wouldn't happen again because the guests had checked out. The guests had not checked out and woke us up before 7 the next day. The staff's response was why didn't you call security and they've checked out now. So if you want quiet make sure your room doesn't face the Alamo Plaza because there are no quiet hours for those with a balcony. The Alamo Plaza was being renovated while we were there. It caused a bit of noise and inconvenience. I'm sure it will be lovely when it's done.
It was exciting and interesting.. will be back soon. Recommended for anyone
Nice place
The hotel is conveniently located near The Alamo, River Walk, and shopping. The courtyard and pool were well maintained. A towering Christmas tree was a nice touch. Everything was clean. The temperature control if the room was a little wonky and the walls were thin. Service was great and the brunch was top notch.
Loved location walking distance from my favorite places to visit when in San Antonio.
Such a beautiful hotel! The renovations being done near the Alamo made it a little difficult but I know once they're done it will be beautiful! I will definitely stay there again. And, didn't see any ghost or have any strange feelings.
Menger was not my choice. It was my half sister visiting from Germany. Most hotels are just a place to rest your head. The hotel and its history had me hook line and sinker. The area is filled with early American history and the hotel is a big part of it. I loved my stay and the visit with my sister that I only met 2 years ago thanks to a DNA site. I am 62 and she is 60 and lives in Germany. Anyway, it is a wonderful place to stay and has a lot of interesting and somewhat haunted history. I would love to visit there again someday.
Menger King Suite
Awesome room. We stayed an extra night. 👍
Parking was a pain because of the Alamo construction
History Location to Alamo &Riverwalk, excellent
We had the standard double queen balcony room. The beds definitely not queen. Pretty small, also the shower is super small. I had to stand side ways kinda or my shoulders would either touch the wall or the shower curtain. Somerimes both at the same time.. it was super annoying. Everything else was excellent. Staff was amazing. Rooms were clean. No ghosts on my stay. I would visit again.
Awesome. Even with all of the construction!
Great historic hotel, fun to stay at and right next to the Alamo and River Walk. Area around the hotel is under construction so finding the hotel to park was difficult and parking is pricey
Construction is going on all around hotel. Crews start between 5-6am so sleeping late or at all not an option. Not the hotels fault but definitely affects your stay.
Fun experience!
We arrived at the hotel at approximately 10:00 PM, and the following morning commenced pleasantly. We awoke early, at 5:30 AM, to enjoy sightseeing within the hotel premises and had breakfast at 6:30 AM before venturing out to explore San Antonio. My husband, a veteran, has a droopy eyelid that becomes more pronounced as the day progresses, particularly when he is fatigued. After spending some time relaxing by the pool, we proceeded to the hotel bar, where we ordered a beer and took a moment to reflect on our day. I subsequently requested a second beer for my husband; however, the bartender, Angela, declined our order. When I inquired about the reason for this refusal, she stated that my husband appeared to have consumed sufficient alcohol and that she had the right to refuse service. She then asked us to leave the bar. This unexpected directive was shocking, as we sensed that the surrounding patrons were equally perplexed. I felt a profound sense of humiliation and a lack of welcome, prompting an immediate desire to exit the premises. It was as though I had been admonished, leading me to tears, which my husband attempted to soothe as we stepped outside to gather ourselves and seek fresh air. The hotel was beautiful, but it only took one staff member to ruin it.
Liked the historic nature of the hotel, very cool. Should be a 5 star hotel, dont know why it not rated higher. Great experience altogether!
Great location and atmosphere. This is an older hotel, so it older heating/AC (despite the in-room digital control). Rooms are small, walls are thin and you can hear pretty much everything in the hall and next door. I expected this and still would stay there again, but heard several other patrons complaining about it to the front desk.
Had a great night of sleep. The bed was super comfy.
Wonderful historic hotel. Our room was in the oldest section, which is in need for some updating. Breakfast Buffett was nice. Lots of construction around the area. Friendly, helpful staff. Near Riverwalk. San Antonio, like most big US cities, has some homeless people. Walking around at night, you need to be aware of your surroundings.
It was a great experience for me and the kids. Love the touch of history throughout and the convenience of the Rivercenter mall close by.
Beautiful Hotel
The hotel was beautiful, and the staff were wonderful. My only complaint was the room was a little cold, however that did not ruin the experience, and we will definitely come back in the future.
I really enjoy the historical feel to this hotel.
Beautiful and elegant property. We always enjoy coming here!
Nice Hotel
We had an amazing spacious room and location was prefect. The beds were very comfortable and room was clean. The view overlooking the pool was gorgeous.
Everything was great! There was a lot of construction around the Alamo so getting to the hotel was a little harder but we did receive an email with directions to get around the construction. It was very helpful
It was a wonderful hotel with a lot of charm for a very reasonable price. I just wished that they would have alerted us about the construction going on in front of the hotel making it impossible for our Uber to get up front so we had to drag our luggage through the street to get to the hotel. If I would have known I would have taken a different, easier to manage, suitcase.
Very nice hotel. Next to the Alamo
Very convenient to the Alamo and Riverwalk
It was a beautiful hotel. With lots of history. Close to river walk and several other things within walking distance
Loved the location. Construction was noisy, shower was terrible, did not drain well, stood in water the whole shower. And we did not have a car and they tried to charge us for valet, caught it on check out. Sunday brunch was excellent, friendly service at brunch.
Great place to stay! Close to river walk
Such a beautiful hotel. There was construction which made getting there a little inconvenient but worth it. Staff was friendly, grounds were beautiful. Pool was cold but was days from heater being turned on for November.
Classic hotel near the Alamo
Classic hotel. Lots of construction going on around it in Nov. 2024, but was still easy enough to get around. I loved the historical feel.
Lovely historic hotel. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Its one of the best hotels in San Antonio. I will definitely book again. Staff are nice and considerate. Thank you!!
