First the staff was great. The issues were the restroom sink and toilet are so close you will hit the counter every time you use the facilities. I am a smaller person and still hit the counter. The noise issue I had was the room next to me was loud and people were on the phone and the tv was blaring. Night 1 I was like ok I’ll say something when I went to knock on the door I find out it was a staff room ie break room or something for the overnight crew. I wouldn’t have left this review if it were just a customer or noisy neighbor. The rest of the staff was great.
I love the history of The Menger!! The bar is so cool - a replica of a real London Pub! The room was adequate but the tub had peeling and chipped porcelain.
Great service. Great location.
Very nice and historic hotel.
Love the area and hotel was acceptable
Interesting historic hotel just next to the Alamo
The Menger is a historic hotel of great beauty and style. My room was one queen size bed and had two armchairs.what I liked especially was a little nook with a desk and mirror. The hotel service was excellent for two days and then the staff decided that I must ask for service for the next 5 days. Very strange. Also if you did not catch breakfast or lunch at their main restaurant, you were stuck with mediocre tacos in their taqueria or with bar food, which was a little better, but the hours were limited.
Our stay at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio was absolutely unforgettable! The historical atmosphere of the hotel was captivating, and it felt like stepping back in time. We loved exploring the nearby supernatural tours and metaphysical shops, which perfectly complemented the hotel’s unique charm. The rooms were incredibly spacious, providing both comfort and a sense of grandeur. The location couldn’t be more convenient, with easy access to all the sights and attractions downtown. Highly recommend for anyone who loves history and a touch of the supernatural!
Menger Stay!
Nice, quiet, friendly staff, attentive valet. Good value. All was great.
Would recommend
Place was great. I did not realize that the parking was valet so a fee for that byt it was convenient. Lots of towels which is a bonus in my books. Only issue we had was the tub drained very very slowly.
No AC if weather is cold, their heating is on
This is an old hotel, very pretty. If you like the room to be cold when you sleep, just know that if the weather is cold outside then their heating system will be on and that means you cannot use the AC. My husband and I sleep better when the room is in the low 60s, it was 74 in our room with no AC to cool our room down, so we had to sleep with the balcony door open.
It was beautiful and relaxing
No self parking
historical area
I love this place! its super convenient and walkable. I will always stay here
Historical treasure. Was like spending time in a lovely museum. Very clean. Reasonable room rates. Wonderful staff.
Almost Perfect
My wife and I stayed at the Minger for five days. It’s a beautiful hotel and the location could not be better. Although we had little interaction with the staff inside the hotel they were always very polite. Our daily interactions with the valet folks was great as well. They were always very polite and quick to retrieve our vehicle. What we didn’t like; we didn’t find out until we’re arrived that the only on site parking option was the valet parking at a cost of $49 per day. The website states on site parking is available but not much else. We did find it later if you book direct you can get a $10 per day discount in the parking, unfortunately we booked through a third party. We stayed in a standard king room, the room was quite small but because we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room it was manageable. My biggest complaint had to do with the location of the toilet (within inches of the vanity) I’m a big guy, 6’3” and a little north of 250 pounds and it was almost impossible to sit on the toilet. It was actually easier for me to run down to the lobby and use the men’s room near the bar. My petite wife struggled with this as well. Lastly, the hotel was quiet during the week and very busy (and noisy) Friday and Saturday making it a little difficult to sleep (we were on the third floor). Will we stay here again? More positives than negatives so we will stay here again.
The outdoor pool is huge and heated. The lobby is beautiful. The staff was friendly. The room was decorated very nicely with appropriate outlets. The room never cooled below 73 though. So check that first. The shower head is very low. The location is close to the river and the mall. We would definitely stay again.
Room was not clean properly, have hair all over the bathroom. It is a beautiful place this is my 3th visit with them. This is the only time i have this experience.
Easy checking and staffs are very helpful
I love that anything was taken care of. Thank you
We would be coming back here definitely.
We have stayed at the Menger 6 or 7 times in the past 2 years and we are more charmed every time we come back. This is a gem of history, and old-school hospitality and we have to recommend this property as THE place to stay in downtown San Antonio.
Great location, neat historical property
Historic
Beautiful hotel.
Challenge to arrive a poor directions provided
It really was challenge to arrive to the hotel. When we call for directions, incomplete routes were provided. We do understand that there are a lot of construction/innovations. But, providing a quick sketch of the different routes to arrive will be so useful for guest not familiar with the area.
The history and upkeep is amazing!! I know it's being worked on but updating outlets for phone chargers, the ones offered in the room do not have a tight fit! Would stay again though!
The Valet parking attendants were just beyond superb!! The entire hotel staff are terrific, I never stay anywhere else when in San Antonio!! Love this hotel like home!!
We enjoyed the customer friendly environment… the mixture of nostalgia and convenience was great. The construction in the vicinity was a distraction and a bit inconvenient. Our stay was wonderful.
Love the history of the hotel. Great location next to the Alamo and Riverwalk.
Excellent location to see city. Quiet old fashioned comfort at a good price.
The Menger Hotel I think is one of the best locations in San Antonio to stay. You have got everything you need right around the corner. It is safe and the food and entertainment never ends. Staff is friendly and is great for information. Beautiful historical Hotel. Try to stay at least 2 times a year.
Fabulous Historic Hotel
I just love the old historic look and feel of this hotel. I hope it never changes!!
It is a nice place to stay if you want to be close to the Riverwalk
Nice old hotel and great area. Boat tours are very good
Front desk hard to communicate with
Very clean. The shower is worthless. It won’t rinse the shampoo or conditioner out of my hair.
Excellence
Beautiful Hotel , but toile are to loud poor sleep because room next to my keep flushing toilet all night
Great location, clean and the heated pool was a bonus. Pool and room services could improve but would definitely come back
great place...great staff
Cool
Beautiful hotel but the noise from the people walking by all night and construction across the street was very distracting
Really close to mall, Alamo, and Riverwalk. Didn't have to drive at all.
Very nice historic hotel in the heart of San Antonio.
The hotel was nice. They had a NYE Party that we knew nothing about ahead of time. We really enjoyed the party a lot. That was a plus. Our closet door was broke. That was annoying. There is construction right outside our window that began early each morning. That was loud and annoying. Other things, but the WORST for me was the really really strong air freshener that they used everywhere. Smelled nice, but it made me sick. I spent a small fortune $$ at CVS there because of that. And an immediate trip to the ER (ER because it was Saturday afternoon) as soon as I got back in town. They also charged us more $$ for parking than what Expedia quoted.
Very nice hotel with German history that made it extra special for us. Great hotel and conveniently located!! Thank you!!
Everything was great.
Overall it was worth it.
It's a historic hotel, so some amenities you are used to are simply not available. Like they can only have AC or Heat on demand. They fluctuate based on the outside temperature. The only parking is valet. 45 extra per day. We had a two night stay and payed 150 over the booking price. Still haven't figured that out, but the location to the sights and restaurants is perfect.
Rooms needs to be well equipped with towels and first need items. The rooms were not cleaned properly as well as the common areas.
Very cool and nice place to stay!!!
Beds were comfortable. Location was perfect and convenient to visit the river walk and the Alamo. Shopping mall was connected to the hotel.
Beautiful historic hotel. Great location for walking to river walk, Alamo , rivercenter mall and more.
Restroom toilets to loud… very inconvenient when sleeping… please upgrade, for the price and toilets super loud
Excellent, historic place to stay in downtown SA! You can’t go wrong here!!!!!
We love the Menger!
Great place.
Beautiful historic hotel at the foot of the Alamo and the River Walk... will definitely return!
Frustrated but happy they figured it out
They omitted the first letter of my last name and kept me waiting a half hour to check in. They said to just call Hotel.com but someone came by and checked by phone number since they couldn’t find it even with reservation number. They over charged for everything and even got room service wrong. We were late meeting family and no one there cared. Getting a hotel was a treat for us, not rich, but as a “high” end hotel they should have comped us for stress and our time.
The history of the hotel is reflected by the many labeled photographs and prints displayed on the walls, particularly in the hallways by the bar. Proximity to both the Alamo and the Riverwalk is excellent. The interior garden and the pool area are both very nice. The lobby is inviting with lots of varied seating options along with tables and chairs.
Valet Parking costs 45 dollars per day
Parking was expensive.
The staff.
It is well located for t h traveler and hotel amenities are excellent
Historical building that is conveniently located near shops, food, entertainment and the hotel has a bar on site
Excellent location
All good Great location Walking distance to everything we wanted to do
I like the history of the building A chair on the patio had a wire that poked my backside
The place is beautiful and the staff was great b
Awesome
Menger—Historic Charm
Clean and comfortable. The hotel has historic charm. Great location
Its one of the best hotels in San Antonio. I will definitely book again. Staff are nice and considerate. Thank you!!
Fantastic stay, history on display. So many activities in walikng distance.
This is a historic hotel, so it will not be as sound insulated as a modern hotel. However, if you want character, central location, and a good value for the money, then this is your place.
Was a historical hotel. Very close to the Alamo and close to river walk. Housekeeping was sparse every 4 days and was supposed to be on request, but when I did request on day 3 they didnt come.
I liked the historic nature of the property, however, our room stayed a bit warm for our comfort. We bought a small fan to help out.
Old but Good location.
Old and the heat doesn’t work. They hand you are card at check in that says this hotel is old and they can only have ac or heat. Our room never got warmer than 65.
If you are wanting to stay at a piece of history look no further than Menger, you will not be disappointed. Its beauty and architect is something to see. The building next to it is the Alamo and directly across the street is the River Walk. Give it 10 stars if i could.
hotel location is excellent. in an old hotel but clean and the air condition system operating is average in some rooms.
No problems with this hotel! Everything has been great!
Everything has been great! The people & the facilities!
Spooky Prices
Staying in a very old hotel has its pros and cons. If the hotel chooses to run AC, you cannot heat your room - it is one or the other for the entire hotel. In other words, climate control is incredibly outdated. The dining area was "nice" but way overpriced and the food was as sad as the typical riverwalk tourist trap restaurants. Construction was all around the hotel. Not one person did anything to make my stay special. Valet parking was expensive, and they tried to charge me an extra day. Overall, I was not impressed - didn't even get to see a ghost.
Dhdh
No heating at your convenience, check in not very welcoming , just stare at you. Parking communication not very good with each other.
Location is great. Love this historic hotel. Very classy in a touristy area.
Beautiful hotel
It was excellent! Love downtown San Antonio!
The property was beautiful. The rooms very comfortable. Front desk and valet staff just great. Very centrally located. The room service staff very nice. However, the food served by room service left a lot to be desired. My Thai Chicken Salad was ghastly. Wrecking a salad takes some doing. They need to imporce the recipe or just take it off the menu. Grocery store bagged salad is better and so much less expensive. Take my advice and pick up sandwiches, salads and snacks at any of the many stores and restaurants in the Alamo Plaza and store them in the mjni fridge in your room.
Be aware that there is a $45 overnight wallet charge—make sure to read the descriptions carefully. Additionally, check the parking facilities around the hotel, as the fees are outrageous. While the hotel may appear to offer a reasonable price, parking is the hidden cost to watch out for.
Everything was absolutely wonderful.
Lots of construction and couldn’t find the entrance to the hotel, after going in circles for 20 minutes we finally found it. I’m sure the excess will be better once they finish with the renovation of the street.
Loved the old charm. Just a great history. Beds were comfortable. It was quiet, except you can hear the neighbors next door and out in the plaza. Didn’t seem like it was really busy. The valets were great. We never used our car, we were parked close to everything we wanted to explore. Tacos place attached to the hotel was excellent.
Loved the historical significance of the entire area. Also, close proximity to the Alamo, Rivercenter mall, the tower of the Americas, the river walk, and Denny’s !
Room small
Room was alittle small. We had the classic king. Expected better service. Belle took care of us when arriving. She was great. Room was cold. Finally asked for heater . It help alot . I guess i just expected better service. Ask for accessible room. There was none available. It made it difficult when taking shower. Hotel location was awesome. Close to everything. Parking so expensive. Should include it with room.
plaza construction underway
Great stay, and an amazing complementary upgrade on our room!
Outdated hotel m. Restroom had mold
We have stayed here in the past. It’s a cool historic hotel. The location is perfect to walk to the River Walk , restaurants and shopping.
Perfect Christmas Getaway
Absolutely amazing! Beautiful hotel, full.of history and charm. Friendly staff and perfect location to enjoy the Alamo and River Walk at Christmas time.
The shower wouldn't stay at one temperature. Going from very hot to very cold and back many times during a short shower. A lot of noise in the middle of the night. No sign of security. Breakfast in the restaurant (buffet) was ok, but service could have been much better.

Very pretty hotel, interesting displays. East check-in ,Valet was convenient, easy process.Hotel employees were very Nice, and helpful with the exception of 1 employee at the Bar. She was very rude to multiple customers for no good reason, basically embarrassed 1 guy for a mistake she made! Rooms were comfortable, nice set up.I recommend a balcony view. Close to the mall and about a 5 minute walk to the Riverwalk.
