One night stay
Very basic no frills room, stairway to it dirty, unironed but clean bedding in a very grubby room
A bit run down but OK.
I can't recommend it for this property the shower is not good the dining room is not a good, no changing bed sheet,
Give it a miss!
This 'Hotel' is merely a hostel which is overpriced, dirty and little if any cleaning done whilst we were out. Beds, carpets etc were not clean and the electric sockets and lighting were faulty. limited on street parking out front. On the good side the room had plenty of room for 5 people. Overall i'd struggle to give it 1 ☆ !!

Very friendly staffs, cleanliness and service are excellent
Very clean room but stairs need some TLC
Came here with 3 other friends, we enjoyed this as we could all be in one room together. The room was a good size for the amount of people but was not in the best condition. There was a chair but if you were to sit on this, the back would fall off. The bedsheets were clean but the mattress wasn’t. The shower had mould and the bathroom was not clean. We did report the unclean bathroom to reception and one man came and used the shower to rinse the bath. Then a lady came and mopped the floor. This was fine for the one night but I wouldn’t come back again/ stay for longer than a night.
cheap for city-centre - for a reason.
Broken fire-window at the top of the landing, gaffer-taped up throughout our stay. Also the room wasn't clean - previous guest contact lense case on the floor, and none of the bedside light bulbs worked - only the main light. only breakfast option was cereal and toast, but the dining room was clean.
Poor hygiene
Very poor cleaned. The bathrooms were in very bad shape, especially the showers
Weekend in Glasgow
Good value good size single room nice and clean, reception was fast no waiting around, good w fi, nice TV , enjoyed my stay.also plenty of nightlife close by, but hotel is located in a very quiet road.
Very pleasant and clean Guest House. Friendly staff. Enjoyed my stay
Absolute Shambles
The hotel was like a maze and extremely hard to navigate. The elevator was old and tiny as it could only fit a maximum of 3 people. Our room was not in the greatest condition, the light at our bed was falling off the wall, the radiator was leaking and the bed was falling apart at the sides, peeling apart. The service from the receptions staff was fine but the room cleaning service was appalling. On our first morning the cleaner came and knocked on the door which was fine but I was just out a shower so I had asked her if she could come back in 5 so I could put clothes on. She left and did not return the full day. Morning 2 and this time me and my girlfriend had not long woken up it was roughly 9:30am this time it was a different cleaner. She did not knock and ask if we required any help she had risky just barged in the door and I asked her to leave as we were not even clothed. I had reported the leaking radiator to reception and was told as it was a Sunday there was no maintenance personnel on shift but he had offered us a new room which was just across the hall. I declined as we only had 1 night left till we checked out and it was too much of a hassle to pack up to move across the hall for a few hours. Overall my stay was disappointing and I feel like I must have been overcharged for the stay I had and for the experience. I will not be using McClay’s Guest House ever again unless it is upgraded.
Cheap Stay
Lady on reception was loverly. Nice little place
The room is big and comfortable. Even you need to share the toilet.
Night away
I had a lovely stay friendly staff and nice huge breakfast
Good Stay.
Good for my 1 night stop, easy parking, close to bars and restaurants. Friendly staff and good breakfast.
The building near Xmas was warm & the staff were helpful & friendly.
Fantastic
Great guest house clean and friendly
Its clean and tidy although a little updating is required. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff.
Not Good
My experience was horrible I payed one thing and received another. The online fotos of the rooms were very beautiful but unfortunately the room had no conditions. The bathrooms are common to all Guest. Cleaning conditions not good. I didnt stay with the room, i lost my money.
Never more The shower don’t clean The room is very small
nightout stay
Perfect for a weekend stay. lovely service at reception. would benefit from more mirrors in rooms.
Worst hotel ever
DO NOT COME HERE, my room was falling to pieces , was a complete dump, bed falling apart, shower falling apart, the whole room was a shambles! Tried to sort it and switch rooms and I was told no and that “ the manager dose not speak to the public” don’t go here
It is not explicit in the information that the bathrooms / toilets are shared. The beds in our room were very old and falling apart. The carpets and decor are worn and dirty. It was odd as the reviews had been clear that the place was clean. Sadly not our experience. Wouldn't go back.
I stayed here for 5 nights and it was fine. The hotel is very central, about a 15 minute walk from the train station and only a few minutes walk into the main shopping district in Glasgow, so location is very convenient. There are lots of cafes, restaurants, grocery stores close by. The staff were pleasant and the reception is open 24 hrs. The room was fine, perhaps a little worn around the edges, but i had no specific issues. Because of the location there was quite a bit of street noise.
Wonderful stay!
Great location, splendid people, daily service, lots of tea! Older place with all you need.
Property not so clean and has weird smell. A total overhaul of the carpets will be in order
Brazza21@outlook.com guest house review
Comfortable, clean. Friendly staff, & excellent quality breakfast. Would stay again
Dump
The stairwell to the room was very shaky cleanliness of the stairwell was Mancke stuff was okay breakfast was below average so you can guess I won’t be back Facebook this on the money you’re making on carpets and
Wouldnt stay here again if i was paid. Paid extra for a room where we didnt have to share a bathroom. A tiny box room we could hardly move in. The 'wardrobe' had no doors. The radiator had been left on at maximum, the tiny room was like a sauna - took ages to cool down after turning it off because the size of the room and also because the windows didnt open either. Could hear people coming and going all night, literally felt like they were in our room. Shouting hello at 3am right outside. Just awful. Went to breakfast had to ask for a cup for juice, got given a wine glass. Had to ask for toast separate after ordering a full breakfast. Opened a green tea and im still waiting for water water / pot of tea. We stayed before and i assured my husband the breakfast was good but it was basic. So now definitely wouldnt returm. If your looking for very low basic accommodation this is your place.
This has been my fourth visit to Mclays. As guest houses go this is one of the best spotlessly clean lovely staff comfortable bed great breakfast a very well run guest house.
The Property is just a block from the main shopping street in Glasgow. Bus is accessible within minutes. The breakfast was great.Staff was always super friendly and helpful.
Good location. V clean, comfortable room. Single-bed duvet a little lightweight even for early autumn. TV kept cutting out. WiFi issue??
If you have a heavy bag, it’s totally crap, you will need to go up and down in that maze, no elevator in our wing. The guys on a front desk didn’t know where our room was, he was directed us to wrong directions. We were ordered private shuttle and driver came to reception and asked for us, and that guy told the driver we already left, but you should left a key from the room at the front desk, he didn’t even check that!!! We lost money because of him! Pay attention to all those things. P.S. room was clean and nice!
Needing repairs.
Place was clean enough. Great location, staff were lovely and food was good. From looking at other reviews it seems we were in a very old room though. Really needs some updating, furniture and room very battered and worn and rattley vent kept waking me.
McAverage
Good breakfast, clean room. Managed to get parked ok and it’s £6 for 24 hours which I think is good value for the location. The bed was uncomfortable, nowhere to hang coats. The en-suite had an over bath shower that didn’t have a thermostatic mixer so either scalded or froze you. The shower screen leaked flooding the floor. For the price I think it’s ok but is in need of a bit of tlc.
Room was dirty. Bed had hair in it. Very narrow hallways, tiny lift, floor in room slanted. Shower had not been cleaned.
Nice and cozy room, friendly staff. Made my stay at Glasgow very pleasant
Good location
Basic but very clean with a good breakfast. Staff were all excellent and really friendly. Great location
Very good value for money hotel
The location of McLays Hotel is good, as it's in Glasgow City Centre, near to Sauchiehall Street, and also close to the main bus and train stations. The room was very clean, and it was also very quiet as well. The staff were also very helpful and friendly as well in this guest house. All in all, a good place to stay, if in the Glasgow area.
Not what I expected
I booked 1 double bed with three single beds but end up with 5 single beds and a spider which woke us at 3am.
Very good value for money hotel
The location of McLays Hotel is good, as it's close to Glasgow City Centre, and also to the main bus and train stations. The room was very clean, and it was also very quiet. Also the staff are very helpful and friendly as well.
Price condition was good. Breakfast was good too. Room was a little dirty though.
The twin bed room had plenty of space, was well lit, the room was comparable to a room at the Hilton. The staff was extremely helpful and responsive. The location was ideal as could walk to all the center city sights and not hassle with public transportation
Very nice guest house, staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing, the hotel clean and comfortable.
Good value for money
Very well located for the promenade, parking for 5 pounds a day was only a block and a half away near a big supermarket Sainsbury and the train station as well. Our en-suite bed room was clean and bright with good reading lights and very good wifi, Person at reception with nice dog Max was very friendly and recommended a very good fish and chips shop close by. Good value for money.
Although I have stayed at Mcclays a couple of times I was really disappointed with my stay. The noise from the nightclubs was intollerable on both the Thursday and Friday, then there was screaming from two residents who were fighting at 6am and someone knocked at my door at 4am. Not a positive experience.
I had a great time in Glasgow and I found this guest house very convenient and central. The staff was very nice, friendly and professional. Will definitely go back there if I need to stay in Glasgow again.
Verylovely stay
Brilliant room for the price, lovely service, friendly staff. The only thing I would change is the breakfast. Juice was served in tiny jugs which meant after 2 people had juice the glass was empty. Apart from that everything was lovely
This guest house was horrendous. The place if falling to bits
A wee surprise
Would stay here again. Staff were lovely and helpful. The guest house is a bit rough around the edges but it does what it says on the tin. My bed was super comfy. The TV was a bit erratic. Tons of tea and coffee available. Breakfast was sufficient and tasty.
Great staff and location
Staff were all really friendly, location was amazing. Very nice hotel.
Clean,comfortable,roomy with really friendly staff
This was a great guest house to stay almost a week in, very clean, comfortable and roomy. Really friendly staff, someone available 24/07. Good breakfast, a Scottish cooked breakfast tailored your way and plenty of cereal, continental pastries etc at the buffet table, tea, coffee and toast on tap! Nice terrace out front for smoking/tea or coffee in the sun on a relatively quiet street. Was not a negative for us but would like to point out as a tip that once you have navigated the steep street to get to the entrance there is then a very steep set of steps up to the front door, so not great for those less able-bodied than others or with large, heavy luggage or prams etc.
Hotel was great but close to bars and you could hear noise into the early hours. Didnt spoil my trip but could do for others
Dated
Dated
Not great, not awful
Right where we wanted to be and staff was friendly and helpful. It was clean and there was lots of room, but beds were uncomfortable and we heard the bass in the music at the nearby after-hours rave until after 3am Fri night/Sat morning.
Shared bathroom was in need of decoration and shower did not work. Plug missing from sink so had to wash with running water . Room was ok but landing and staircases in need of upgrading.... carpet filthy!
Dirty room, broken beds, unhygienic with spiders and cob webs all over the place will not be booking again
The mattress appeared to be devoid of any filling and had springs poking through. We awoke with spring marks on our bodies.. Waitress were nice and breakfast fine As to value for money. We are staying at accommodation I near Pitlochry which has a beautiful large bedroom with en-suite, a view and service far exceeding expectation. I would suggest that money needs to be spent urgently on upgrading as it is not fit for habitation
Great little place. Service above and beyond. Fantastic breakfast. Well maintained.
Thumbs Up
The people behind the desk were very nice and helpful. It is a very convenient location to the Kings Theater.
Reception staff is very good and friendly.
The all staff is very friendly. Property is clean and in good condition. Breakfast is also well. Location is also very good because all foods are available near the property.
Excellent value for money. Food was also good, with a selection of fresh hot food and cold. Staff warm and friendly, especially Geraldine who went out of her way to help when we needed. Would stay here again if visiting the area.
Au cuan
Super friendly. Went out of their way to arrange local activities.
The place was very clean, the staff was very nice and helpful, I really liked the room, I took a single with shared bathroom one and despite my low trust in shared bathroom I was very happy with that! The only little problem was that the place is very near to a street full of clubs and pubs, so on saturday night was a little bit noisy, however...if you are after clubs and pubs this is perfect!
Never an eight!
Stayed here for one night when travelling up to Glasgow for the football. Travelling alone, i'd say it works as a place to stay and get some breakfast in the morning. Wouldn't dream of taking the wife unless pushing for a divorce! Creaky, worn out floors, carpets that are stained to the point of despair and paintwork on doors and windows that has literally dozens of layers. Fixtures and fittings in the room are very dated but functional. Tiny shower cubicle was just about adequate . Bedding looked clean and the bed was comfy for a decent sleep. Front of house staff and breakfast staff are pleasant and helpful and i found the cooked breakfast to be good. Decent wi-fi in the room. All in all, a place i'd use again if the need arose (i was meeting people in this part of Glasgow) but definitely back street Blackpool standard.....very surprised by previous high ratings.
Good value for money! Good location! Only thing that wasn’t great was my friend got stranded in Glasgow so we said he could come back with us - reception wouldn’t let him in as we had only paid for 2 people (fair enough) however still refused entry when I said I would pay for a third person! Put a real downer on what was otherwise a good night!
Late night noise
All was good except noise from the pub across the street. Unfortunately, I had the front room.
Cheap accessible place for short stays
Very good location, cheap room clean but shared bathroom so can be a bit tricky
Great place great location great staff all round magic had excellent stay
Night stop over
Our 3rd time staying here, it is what it is for price and convenience for a nights stop over. However room 53 was bad..... very dated, single glazed rattling window, kettle lead wouldn't reach socket etc Breakfast is good as is location and parking Just don't expect much if you get a cheap deal !!!
Central location
Central location yet nice and quiet at night. Didn't hear any guests during the night. Very comfy beds and rising to an excellent breakfast in the morning. Staff nice and friendly.
Good quiet location, easy walk to local restaurants. Approx 15 mins walk from Glasgow centre. Room was very clean & comfortable. All staff were helpful & friendly.
Good value for money.
Everything was fine... The place has lots of character and it's close to everything that interested me.
The room was clean and excellent value for money. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were really helpful.
Great value
Very good value for money. Our room was comfortable and very clean. Good bathroom. 24/7 reception. Excellent area to stay from which to explore Glasgow.
Reception was ALWAYS manned. No matter what time I popped by (2am) there’d always be someone there happy to help.
The room was very comfortable and modern. Only small problem was TV which only seemed to work on one channel and the remote didn't work. The reception and other staff were all excellent, welcoming and very helpful.
Lovely place. Affordable and friendly. Near to Sauchiehall and City Centre
Mc clays is Good value for money
Good value, quick service , big room with all you need and good location for Kings Theatre .
All good
All good, would stay here again :) very clean room and ensuite, great location (within walking to Kelvingrove) Breakfast was fine and would definately stay here again. Good value for money.
I would say that this hotel is a work in progress. Very clean and friendly staff. Very dated and a lot of upgrading required in the rooms as ours was very dark and dingy, but can see that work is being done to improve the place as the reception area and dining rooms were nice and there was men working during the day. The mattress on the bed was very hard and uncomfortable so I didn't sleep too well. All-in-all ok for one night.
Fantastic breakfast, comfortable bed, friendly and relaxed staff.
Really nice room, the location was perfect! Bathrooms were clean. The only negative thing was that it was really cold. The heater didn’t work in my room, but someone came to fix it, although it didn’t work. I didn’t take it further as I was leaving the next day and I had an extra blanket. The bathrooms were freezing cold as well. Other than that, it was great:)
McClay's Guest House
Staff was friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and well kept up. Welcoming and quiet atmosphere. Food was delicious. It will be.my first choice.if I return.
Nice hotel comfortable Left early still gave us breakfast Really helpful
Overall really good
Everything was really good, the only thing was the bathroom smelled very musty and old, and the bathtub was stained and didn't look super clean.
It was amazing and the team there were helpful. I would definitely come again. However, there are two points of improvement. There could be a fridge where we can add food and drink into it. The iron I borrowed from there burnt my dress.
Value for money
Good location. Easy access to food and public transport. Some very steep hills and lots of steps so not suitable for everyone. Filling breakfast.
Excellent value for money. We booked a double ensuite. The guest house is in a central position, it is clean, quiet, fully equipped with toiletries, towels, adjustable radiators in room, comfortable king bed. The breakfast was excellent. All staff were friendly and helpful. It wins no prizes for looks and needs refurbishment, but that is a minor issue if you are using it as a base and only really planning to sleep there.
Great value hotel for price. Hotel is not too far away from all attractions. Short taxi ride from either rail station or easy stroll.
Lovely place
Needs some work.. clean comfy... Lovely staff and good breakfast.. and the price was fantastic.
For the money ok
On a steep hill, so not. Suitable for everyone clean and tidy old building but being refurbished to a very good standard
We stayed for 3 nights - staff were friendly, room comfortable and breakfast excellent.
3 nights in Glasgow
The room was a long way from reception and very dark. Breakfast was average, fair value for money. It was very noisy but it is also very central
Dont go to this hotel
Our stay was all of 15min due to condition of room, squashed blue bottle on curtains, carpet filthy, furniture very poor condition. Bed linen on moving I found pubic hairs and bits of food debris and no pillow protectors. I realise this is a budget hotel but cleanliness should come as standard it was disgusting and we left to go to another hotel.
Adequate room, excellent breakfast.......only down side was shared toilet and showering facilities, there was no toilet paper at times....too many sharing.
Staff very friendly and helpful Room clean Ensuite a bit cramped but adequate
