Location is good. Needs a bit of updating, more food service options.
The hotel was good for the price but the area where the hotel is located is kind of sketchy, I felt safe but I'm a big guy, there were some strange characters near the hotel.
Traveling
Staff was great. Nice breakfast with eggs, fruit, and lots more. Area around was not so nice but after a few blocks gets better.
Breakfast was good, staff very helpful with my replacement passport, beware of pickpockets around the Acropolis. Some noise through the walls, not bad though.
Very convenient for the price. The area is just like any other major city downtown but nothing to do with the Hotel and their staff. It does its job. I would stay again if I had the chance.
This hotel is a cheap stay because of the area. This is an area of town the Athens doesn't take care of. It doesn't feel good to walk through it but we didn't have anyone approach us or have any problems. Appreciate the security guard out front. It's a 15 min walk to main metro. Breakfast had a lot of choices. We stayed here because we were able to get 3 beds in 1 room. The inside of hotel and rooms is clean.
The hotel staff are excellent, extremely friendly and helpful. Large room, no view. cleaned daily. Easy walk to the Acropolis, Plaka and surrounding historical sites. Unfortunately, the area may be disconcerting for some guests as serious homelessness and drug issues are prevalent. At no time did I feel unsafe..locals kept to themselves.
Like my stay.
Very disappointed, very unsafe street at night with homeless sleeping across the street. The hotel pictures are not what reality is, they were professionally taken, but reality is, furnishings in the room are 20 years old, there is visible pealing paint in the halways, electric sockets, lights, lamps are old and outdated, shower/tub with a plastic curtain. The included breakfast had two day old bread and black bananas. This is not a 3 star hotel at this writing, I paid twice as much as I should have for what I received. Stay away from this hotel unless a 1 star rating is ok with you.
The day before to check out. They don't cleaning the room. No clean the floor and they didn't do the bed, just move the linen up. It was disapppointed. The rest was good, the service at reception, the breakfast gpod. Good experoence with a little black point.
The area felt unsafe, which made us very uncomfortable during our stay. We were also constantly aware of a strange smell in the room that was quite off-putting. It made it hard to relax, and as a result, we struggled to get a good night's sleep.
Very bad neighborhood when arriving late at night
Not the best part of Athens, drug addicts outside of the hotel, feel unsafe in these streets outside , hotel is also quite old with the dated ! Would not recommend or stay here again
The hotel itself was okay but the area it is in is super scary and not safe
Thank you to the front desk staff Thank you Mr Giannis for the wonderful early morning delicious breakfast (s) everyday Thank you Thank you
Thank you to the terrific front desk employees that gave and directed us to Athens highlights . Great location In addition: the breakfast was delicious and plentiful Mr Giannis did wonderful in making sure everything was ready and plentiful.. Thank You !!
Very dated property, decently uncomfortable bedding, but the area around (Omonia) is what brings the hotel down. It's not something that they can control, but it takes going through a number of uncomfortable situations to get to the hotel on foot.
The hotel is very central, convenient and well connected. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The structure is basic and the street is a bit dirty but is feels safe.
Thank you for everything!!
City center
The street is terribly dirty. The shower does not have proper curtain and the bathroom floor is flooded. Better choose other hotels to stay.
Good breakfast and atention,
The attention is good but the condition of the hotel, beds and bathrooms are very bad.
Overall served the purpose. Dicenty price for one night stay near metro station if you need to get to the airport.
Everything was good but the location is so so when it comes to night.
STAY AWAY
The only good thing about this hotel is exceptional friendliness of staff members. Anyone I spoke to was very polite and nice. However, the hotel itself is the worst I ever stayed. The shower head was broken and I had to purchase new one in the market and replace it myself, as it wasn’t acciones by hotel staff. Room had a heavy air and smelled bad and is in desperate need of repairs. Hotel advertised the bar that doesn’t exist and tv has no English Channels. It is not hotels fault but area is infected with junkies that are injecting drugs and sleeping on the pavements next to the hotel and we had to walk around 15 min through the biggest slums in Athens in order to reach something that looks like 1st world country. While I recognize that things like repairs potentially can be pricey and lengthy to achieve, I was mostly angry by the fact that in the breakfast buffet baked beans were served cold. I assume Greek people don’t eat baked beans and have no idea that it is a hot dish, not cold. Furthermore, the pictures do not represent the room as they are clearly photoshopped or taken a long time ago as the room I got was no where close to what I saw in pictures when booking. In conclusion- do not book that hotel, nor any other hotel within 1 mile radius unless you like heroin addicts on your doorstep.
Good hotel for its price but location is not corage late night walking
Nice and clean
Staff were great, location excellent as was the price.
The Marina-Athens Hotel provided good and affordable accommodation for our 14-night stay in Athens. The management and staff were friendly and helpful, especially if you are able to speak some Greek. The hotel is located in the heart of the metro area in Omonoia, and is within easy walking distance to Syntagma Square, the Plaka, Monastiraki, and the archaeological sites. The neighbourhood around the hotel is a bit rough, but we were able to navigate through it without any problems.
Hotel and property were nice and clean. However, the surrounding area was dirty and unsafe. Lots of trash in streets and drug usage.
Excelent place and management.
Omonia Area
However, we feel it's important to address a concern related to the location. While we had a positive experience within the hotel's premises, there were noticeable signs of drug activity in the surrounding area. This raised some safety concerns for us, as it created an atmosphere that felt less secure than we would have preferred. To improve the overall experience for guests, we would recommend that the hotel management consider taking measures to address these safety concerns. This could involve collaborating with local law enforcement to enhance security in the vicinity
Do your research
We didn’t do our research for this stay on our Greece trip. When arriving to the hotel, even our driver informed us to be safe and stay alert at all times in this area. When walking up/down the streets by the hotel there’s people doing drugs and sleeping on the sidewalks all hours of the day. Cherry on top was the human feces we encountered on the sidewalk right by the hotel. Price was the main reason for our pick of this hotel, but if we ever return to Athens we’d stay elsewhere. We could hear everything around us within the hotel room (in the hallways, room next to us). Bed was basically like cardboard and bathroom was small. This was the last stop on our trip, and we may have been spoiled in all the other places, but it just seemed not well kept. Trash was only changed once, which if you’ve been to Greece you know it should be changed every day since you can’t flush toilet paper. Breakfast had a lot of options which was nice to be fueled/energized before our long days of exploring Athens. The front desk and all other staff were kind and always greeted us. However, the hotel staff on our other stops in Greece were extremely informative of where to go and popular places we needed to check out. Marina Athens hotel staff basically just checked us in and handed us our key. We already had our own plans/itinerary but it’s still nice to get to know the place from people who work/live here.
Good one to stay …staff was very friendly ….they assisted with us with cab in the early morning 2 for just 11 EUROS to the local bus station ….
I give a five star rating because of the service. The area the hotel was in wasn’t the best. But the hotel service and hospitality was great! The shower in my room didn’t work so the staff gave me an upgraded room. Excellent customer service and very nice staff!
It’s scary outside
I will start with the positive which is that the staff is very polite and pleasant. Other than that I wish I read the reviews more carefully because the neighbourhood is in fact terrible. On the way here at around midnight on either side of the road there were people lying in the street. The taxi that brought me had to stop for several minutes behind a car that was bringing “sandwiches” to some of the homeless guys but I’m pretty sure it was drugs because everyone was high. One of the guys had his pants off. The room itself is worn down. Things are broken and need to be fixed, the duvet is really old, the sheets are not secure on the bed and there is a bad smell in here like the previous occupant ate too much curry. Overall I wouldn’t recommend and it’s a shame because the staff is professional.
Hotel was good. Area was more commercial. Close to bus lines.
I would not recommend this Hotel. The general condition is disgusting. Breakfast was horrible. Cold beans, eggs burnt and zero personal touch. My lamp shades were broken, loose wiring and couldn’t get the safe to work. Carpet’s gross and the kettle was unhygienic. Bottom line, no go!
Convenient but scary location (homeless, drugs). Hotel was clean but staff did not seem to care about problems with the refrigerator or elevator door being left open and did not work.
great indoors don’t go out side after 9pm yummy breakfast clean kind
Staff where friendly on arrive and very helpful. Property is good, the bathroom could do with some maintenance
Wow!!!
Very nice breakfast, good service, our room looked out over a dismal bldg, neighbor hood pretty bad but not of any threat to intelegent - rational people - quite educational in regards to the lowest form of life in the big city.
Good enough for a 3 night jaunt
Hotel was nice, we booked in a hurry due to checking into a pre booked hotel down the road that was dreadful. This was clean, tidy, breakfast was simple, too much furniture in the room so we could not use the wardrobe, no tea or coffee facilities in the room which was a shame and we struggled to get the heating on. But all in all it was alright for the money.
The hotel is close to the main attractions and has a wonderful view with many rooms having balconies to the outside, so it would be perfect in the summer time. The neighborhood around the hotel is not the best, but it should not detract people from staying there as it is close to the acropolis, ancient agora, roman agora and all the other archaeological sites. Also quick access to transport links and easy access to many tour groups. The only one complaint I had was that the toilet in room 710 is located in an awkward position where the space is not the most spacious or convenient.
Ok price, terrible location
The staff are kind, polite and always there ready to help. Cleanliness is good. The area is no quite nor safe.
The property was closed, not sure if it was out of business or if it was under construction. Nonetheless, I just got off an 14 hour flight and I had meetings schedule all afternoon and now I'm scrambling looking for a hotel.
Good hotel, nice staff
Out of the cheaper hotels in this neighborhood this is one of the closer ones to the Acropolis. You get a good amount of breakfast for the amount you pay. People complain about the neighborhood but nobody bothered anyone. Most of the people who live there are eating or shopping.
Clean, good breakfast, good service, though the beds were a bit hard.
I didn’t like location getto . View from room horrible horrific trash and garbage
For me everything was ok and very nice people with smiling face work in this hotel.
Liked the Hotel, not the location.
The room was good, the staff service is great. They give you all the information you need. The lobby is very clean and smells really good. The problem was that the bathroom was a little bit dirty and the location was not that good. Even when the hotel is located near every attraction by foot, we felt insecure to walk by its surroundings. We felt like we were in a dangerous neighborhood and had to take taxis all the time to feel safe. Maybe for other people this is not a problem but for us it was.
Hotel location is in very bad and dangerous. O didn't like it at all.
Convenient location. Recommend you bring your own hairdryer as the one in the room isn't great.
The location of this hotel is absolutely scary. The staff was great but could not overcome the location.
Great hotel, friendly staff, wonderful breakfast buffet. Free storage for luggage if you want to explore the city after you check out. Rooms were big and clean. Only a 20 minute walk to Acropolis. Shady neighborhood, but not terribly unsafe. Walked in late at night with suitcases without any issue. It seems scarier than it is. Would definitely recommend staying here!
Overall good standard hotel, but didn't feel safe as a woman in this location/neighborhood.
Staff was nice. Breakfast was good. Creepy neighborhood.
Hotel decent, neighbourhood terrible
The hotel itself is fine. The neighbourhood, let's just say will make you rethink your opinions about mass migration into Europe, if you are of the left wing sort. My highlight was having to walk behind a guy with a syringe behind his ear as if it were a cigarette. It's a dirty street with sketchy people hanging out late into the night. While the hotel is close to the major tourist sites I'd find one in a better neighbourhood.
Good hotel in a bad spot.
Friendly service in a nice clean hotel. The breakfast was adequate and the location was both great and terrible. Great because it was walking distance to many of the tourist sites, shopping and restaurants but unnerving walking around the place as it looks like a war zone. The more people I spoke to the more I heard that this is a dangerous part of town and to stay out.
Crowded streets..
Hotel is very good, comfortable, clean and quiet, but no AC. Breakfast is good, some variety. Location might not be the best. People, mostly immigrants, loitering nearby in the middle of streets, some selling most hanging out, might make women uncomfortable. For me it was simply loud,it did not make unsafe.
Terrible location
The location is awful. We did not even check in.
It was very clean And the staff was fantastic! Everyone could not been more kind and helpful!
A very nice and cozy hotel very good location centrally in omonia
They booked a taxi for me, the meter came to under 30 euros. The receptionist told me 43 euros. It really is taking advantage of an innocent traveler to make an extra bit of money
Bad area but ok hotel
What's not good about this place is not really the hotel itself but the area, really sketchy, dirty, stinky, scary area. Walking down the street I was just hoping I won't be stabbed or robbed, the bad area is about 5+ mins walk, once you're out of it it's ok. Other than that the hotel is more on the older style, nothing fancy but clean. Breakfast was good. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Such a pity about the area, probably won't stay here again only because of that.
Almost good
The air on dripped into my room. The remedy from the front desk was to turn it down. I sopped it up with towels. Later reception offered to change room ( 11 pm). Area seemed rough. Guard at the front. Efficient check in. Good breakfast, issues arose when I decided to change to share an airport taxi with a couple rather than take a cab to the metro and proceed from there. Reception get into it, is there an anti rule about not sharing taxis?
The room was nothing like the advertised photos. It was tiny, outdated, it smelled, I found hairs in the bed and bathroom, there was no balcony (which was advertised), I felt very unsafe getting to and from the hotel and was harassed for drugs and sex by people on the street when I was trying to find the hotel.
The staff at the Marina hotel were friendly and professional. Our room and balcony was nice. Kettle and coffee in the morning was much appreciated. The breakfast was good as well.. Just a couple of minutes and you are at Omonia and the Metro . My only concern was the neighbourhood . We always took a taxi at night . It was a little scary once you walked out on the street at night.
A++++
Very nice hotel, good staff
the place was clean and nice close to the store except at night too many people walking around
My experience with Marina Hotel
My experience in the hotel was great, the only downside was the cleaning of the room and changing of bedsheets which takes a bit longer before you can access it
Ideal for money's worth!
Loved it all! The area is not the best but safe enough which is the main thing.
Good price. Hotel is located conveniently to attractions.
Very good hotel, great breakfast buffet. Large room, clean and comfortable. Relatively close to the centre, though not on the doorstep, but I like to have a little through the surrounding areas. Friendly staff and good facilities, I would not hesitate in booking here again.
The best hotel you can find in Athens if you don't want to spend too much money.
I been at Marina hotel three times, great experience and I will use this hotel in the future again, cheap very clean comfortable and very friendly.
just ok
just ok for one night
Nice welcome. We needed somewhere to stay for a night before we flew out. Room was very basic but for the price it seems fair. The floor didn't feel that soft and if you're going to stay there make sure you bring your soap and shampoo as of I remember correctly, it wasn't provided. Buffet breakfast was great though
Sleazy Neighbourhood.
This hotel is in a very bad seedy neighbourhood in Athens and security is present at this hotel. Pickpockers and crime are very apparent and this hotel should be avoided at all costs. The street is filled with graffiti and buildings falling apart and lewd men on the street. The cab drivers are hesitant to take you there.
I stayed for 3 nights in May and the hotel was clean and breakfast was excellent. The problem was the thin walls and doors, the bottom of my room door was open like Two inches so I heard everyone in the hall. The other concern is the area as I did not feel safe alone at night and heard from others that the area around Ammonia Metro is not that safe and graffiti is everywhere.
Lovely and Convenient Location for a Business Trip
The hotel was comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. It was wonderful to have a room with a private balcony. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and willingly gave of their time to help find the information about the city that I required. The Wi Fi connection was good and allowed for an on-line meeting. The breakfast was delicious and typically Greek. The hotel's restaurant and reception area allowed for meeting other guests. The hotel's location is very near a metro stop, many dining options, and a branch of the Hondo department store chain.
Safe and handy to restaurants, transport and marke
Hotel staff were very helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. The general local area looked unappealing but proved to be quite safe. The hotel is located within walking distance from local markets and short walk to metro. Metro was our preferred transport as Athens roads are clogged and buses hardly move. Pleasant stay at the Marina.
Location poor, area full of garbage on street and very noisy. Room was dirty, carpet and bedspreads especially grungy. Breakfast was good and staff were very helpful.
Clean and friendly
Nice hotel 5 minutes from metro ,area is a bit run down but I had or saw no trouble day or night, staff very friendly and for what I paid I was very happy, clean room above average with safety deposit box in room nice large double bed shower fridge TV .
surrounding neighbourhood not so good.toilet was not so clean.
good location ,but needs updating.
the location of the hotel was fine, but the area was very rough, very noise with traffic and people shouting and loud music at 3am , room had double glazing was it was still noisy. no tea and coffee in room , we had e-mailed to see if it was available we were told not in standard room but ask at reception which we did and was told they could get us hot water, . the room could do with updating as it was looking very tired bathroom was small and needed re-tiling and painting, mould around pretend window and on pipes coming out of the wall. when i used the shower the water went straight through the shower curtain and soaked to floor and the toilet as it is situated next to shower, felt grubby. credit where it its due breakfast was good continental and some cooked , would like to have had a healthy choice fat free yogurt and some fresh fruit not just apple.also come people looked for decaff coffee which was not available. our room wa at the front of hotel, shabby buildings oppersite.
Do not stay at this location
I was speaking to one of the staff to show me the map on the ipad.. Then i went out to the metro. I did not find my ipad, it was stolen. I came back to the hotel and once i spoke to him that i cant find my ipad, he treated me in a very vulgare way. After that when i am saying to him good morning he did not even reply me. He made me doubtful that he took it. Please dont stay in that location ( Omonia square) is full of thieves and addicts people. We have been stolen in that area.
Central location but feels a bit unsafe at night. Staff was great and very accomodating, delicious continental breakfast. If you dont plan to stay long in your room it was great in general!
Unsafe location
Very unsafe location. Dirty street. Stay away from this hotel
2 Nights at the Marina Hotel, Athens
The reason I chose this place was the price. It's near Omonia square and metro and within walking distance of Syntagma so good for amenities etc., but I found out later that the area's got a bit of a reputation for drug dealing, so best to watch yourselves at night. Despite the look of the area, the hotel itself is in good condition with helpful staff although the elevator is only big enough for one person with luggage at a time. I'd probably stay there again.
Nice hotel close to transportation
This hotel was very nice. The room was clean and comfortable. I had an issue booking through the Expedia app because there was no place to request 2 twin beds instead of 1 double as the full website allows you to do (it was a standard twin or double room). When I called to request the separate beds, the person who answered was rude, and did not understand the situation at hand. He reprimanded me for reserving a room with one bed when I needed two and tokd me it was my problem. The conversation ended with "if there's a room with two beds available when you check in then you'll get your twin beds, if not that's your fault". When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a totally different aura. The man at the front desk was fun and witty, and gave us tons of information about the city, transportation, and tourism. He gave us a room with two beds that was clean, cozy, and exactly what we needed. The neighborhood around the hotel is a bit secluded and sketchy, but the hotel itself feels safe. We opted to take public transportation and kept a close eye on our belongings while walking and riding. Overall, this was a nice stay.
fine
close to center, but you need to pass a couple hundreds of meters refugees area; good breakfast and clean room, the only discomfort was a very hard mattress.
Staff was kind and friendly. Were able to get a room for me earlier than expected so I could rest after my overnight flight. Held my items the next day even though I had a late flight.
Homeless sleeping on the front door of the hotel
I stopped in front of the hotel, we got really scared, homeless sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the hotel, a junkies paradise, no space to stop the car and unload the luggage, no space to park, and when I asked the security person in front of the hotel where to park I got the answer " find yourself a parking in the neighborhood". we were four adults and none of us felt safe to get off the car on that street, not to talk about parking overnight in that neighborhood. Piles of garbage all over, drugs, etc. Expedia should not advertise this hotel, it should have it removed from the list.
Value for money, helpful staff
Really nice hotel- the location is in a slightly dirty area but the hotel makes up for it and a short walk and you're in beautiful central Athens. The hotel looked after our luggage whilst we went away for a couple of days to a local town and let us into our rooms early with no extra fee.
Great room for the price.
The room was adequate but very tight bathroom. Great customer service, convenient to all his ( hop on/off) services and food. Awesome air conditioning and plentiful breakfast.
Not recoomended
