Beautiful mountain lodging
The views, hotel staff and animals were amazing. Breakfast was a delight
Amazing view and great family
We stayed here with our kids ages 11 and 10 for six days. The thermal pools were so relaxing and the view was unbelievable. Our family got to experience true Costa Rican culture at this hotel. Albert, his mom, and the other staff are so accomodating. The animals are so fun to see and if you wish spend time with them. The family runs a dairy farms and is very respectful of the environment. We were a short drive to La Fortuna but yet out of the touristy area. We highly recommend this hotel!
Outskirts of Town
I thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and was not taken a back by it's rugged location. It is on the outskirts of town, up a dirt road. On the dual sport, it was actually quite fun getting to the property but if you don't have access to a vehicle, this might be inconvenient having to rely on taxi service into town and back. The pools were great, fed from the hot spring water and the room was clean with good beds and a mini-fridge. Nice breakfast in the morning, but if you are an early riser, you might want to have some snacks available since breaky doesn't start until 8am. I will stay here again when visiting the La Fortuna/Arenal area.
I enjoyed the beautiful natural surroundings of Loma Real, and it was not to far from the city center. Albert was a great host, regularly checking to make sure we were comfortable and happy. He offered suggestions for tours and restaurants. The typical Costa Rican breakfast prepared by his Mom every morning was simply delicious. The room was simple but clean, linens were provided daily. Totally relaxing atmosphere in the thermal springs. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Very Bad Location
good hotel but if u do not have a car please stay away. very good breakfast and charming people otherwise. the owners go to bed at 9pm meaning u cannot eat anything or go out after 9pm unless u have coverage to call a taxi. $10 taxi ride one way from downtown la Fortuna. would not recommend based on location
Nice, family-owned hotel. Close to the hot springs. Delicious breakfast!
Very quiet and peaceful place to stay
I loved it there, so tranquil. Family run, they also have a farm with cows and horses and take good care of everything. Pool with hot spring water is filled fresh every day. About 5 min by car outside of La Fortuna so you almost need a car. Taxi is 3000 Colon to La Fortuna.
Charming family-owned hotel located on their farm
This was our favorite hotel in Costa Rica. We particularly liked that it's a small place on a family farm a little ways away from the main tourist action of La Fortuna, and also that we could spend each evening after dinner soaking in the hot pools in the garden. We loved having fresh milk and eggs for breakfast (from the cows and chickens wondering about) and trying our hosts homemade queso fresco one morning. The garden and surrounding hills are really beautiful. Volcan Arenal is very close although we only saw the base because of cloud and rain. The other guests seemed to all be Costa Ricans which we also liked and the owners are lovely people.
Sweet little spot - recommended!
What a lovely little spot! It's located on a working farm, so don't expect a luxury resort, but if you want an authentic Costa Rican cabina and local hosts, you'll definitely enjoy this place. Far away from the hustle of La Fortuna, the setting is rural and set back quite a ways off the main road.
Too expensive for the service.
We arrived to the place hoping to see something according to the expense. The hotel is in a separated area in the woods with a farm nearby. It would have been a fair stay had the price was 60% less.
It is listed on Expedia as having a pool side bar
In the listing it is said to have a pool side bar who is false. It also says that there is AC in all the rooms and that was false. The TV was VERY fuzzy and remote did not work. When booking we were charged an extra 16$ per night for an "extra person fee" when we had no extra people and upon arriving were not granted our money back. Ladies were very nice but one rude man seemed to be running the place. Nice view and pools were a plus but there were all smaller than expected. Overall not what we expected for 60$ a night !
Nice pools and gardens but that's about it
This hotel has very nice pool and garden area, and a beautiful view of Arenal volcano. It is very far away from town though. The television in our room did not work, and there is no poolside bar as advertised on Expedia. The two women on the staff were very nice, but there was a male owner who was very rude when we tried to ask about certain things.
Peaceful, great hot springs pool
We stay there for 2 nights. When we arrived to Loma Real Hotel, the first impression was that we arrived to a family home, cabins are on the back of the house. We feel good about supporting a family business. The place is surround by a nice garden. The room was comfortable and very clean. They have 4 hot springs pools, not very warm, but good enough. The hotel Is near "La Fortuna" if you take a taxi, but is not walking distance. A nice breakfast, with fruit, eggs, toasted bread & coffee, is included. For lunch or dinner you will need to take a taxi. A taxi to "La Fortuna" can cost around $6.00 each way. The family that owns and mange "Loma Real Hotel" are very nice and friendly. Its definitely a very relaxing place. Internet signal works very well. Even though our experience was good, next time we will prefer to stay in an area walking distance to restaurants, like in Fortuna.
Comfy farm with luxurious hot spring pools
Don,t let the lane way fool you this place is a gem. The family are very nice and the hot spring pools are terrific. There are also good kitchen facilities close to the room.
This was our favorite hotel in Costa Rica. At first we were put off by the distance to town. We didn't have a car but found we could take cabs back and forth for a few dollars each way. Worth it for the quite evenings. Great to be able to soak in the pool before breakfast. This is a family run place and their other business is a dairy farm. There's always fresh milk and eggs for breakfast. Good views of the countryside and volcano when it's clear. It's all new construction so everything is clean and working. Has a kitchen and refrigerator for guests. I would recommend this place to friends.
Jewel of a Hotel
Loma Real was a jewel, our room was very clean and the hotel is well maintained. The included breakfast was nice as well. We loved the 4 hot spring pools, I think that if they hadn't been so warm we would not have gone in as it was a little cool when we were there.
The available spring pool made this hotel attractive, room size are very good, but breakfast service shall improve. Also shall improve the street access and signaling.
Quiet, hot spring pools
A perfect place to relax. And, if you are tired of relaxing there is a canopy maybe 900 m away. But don’t worry you don’t notice that when you are in the hotel (close but no noise). I like the hot spring bath and its close vicinity to beautiful flowers, a green forest in the background and a richness of birds. There is a good restaurant near it if ever you are with no car.
Muy familiar
Todo muy bien!
Basic Budget Option
Pros: 4 warm spring-fed swimming pools which are emptied each night, pretty and relaxing. View of the (dormant, and often shrouded in fog) Arenal volcano. Clean rooms with large showers with hot water. Wild Curassow birds walking around. Mostly guests who are Costa Ricans (some international tourists) with families/kids for your kids to play with. Cons: bathroom is separated by a curtain (not a door). The toiletries provided are 2 small bars of soap (no shampoo, conditioner, etc.). The room has a small fridge but they ask you not eat in the room, rather in the shelter by the pool area - so unless you have pizza delivered by scooter or bring all your own cooking equipment, you'll need a rental car or taxi to head down the unpaved road to Highway 142 for lunches and dinners. We've stayed at several other places in similar price ranges and breakfast was skimpy compared to those places. The server is not very attentive and you'll need to insist if you would like Rice and Beans, Plantains, or water. It's nice to sit outside for breakfast - but due to the proximity of the cow dairy, there are small flies that join you at breakfast. We stayed several nights and the manager and his mother were definitely pleasant, but overall we had more comfortable rooms and warmer hospitality experiences (more connection/interaction with the host family) at the other places we stayed. That said, if you're comfortable with basic accommodations and have kids, this is a viable option.
