It was fine but the room was very cold. After 4 blankets we were OK.
Best Hotel Ever
It was actually whatever comes after amazing. My wife and I absolutely Love the hotel And Verdun. The ladies at the front desk were some of the best I have ever dealt with anywhere in the world.
I travel a lot, all around Europe and the world. I rarely write reviews, and never negative. I've decided to write a review on this occasion, as I think it's important to keep my fellow travellers well informed. All in all, the hotel has a significant potential but perhaps due to limited guest flow it fails to deliver what it possibly can. Pros: - Central: The hotel is situated in Verdun city centre, just next to the river. - Parking: There is a secure and very convenient car park in the property. - Decoration: The rooms are nice, and seem to have been recently decorated. - Cleanliness: the hotel is clean and well maintained in general. Cons: - Check in: check in time is 4:00pm... I've never seen anything like this. We turned up at 2:00pm, and the hotel was empty - no cars in the car park, and not a single person other than the receptionist to be seen anywhere. Yet we were told that our room was not ready. Do they not clean the rooms after guests leave? - Rooms: I specifically booked a room with "a City view" as I know Verdun was going to be beautiful. The view was to the side wall of a building nearby. If this was the last room in the hotel, I could have possibly accepted that this is s City view. But no, I am pretty sure that we were either the only ones in the hotel, or one of the very few there. - Amenities: the restaurant was closed. Not a big issues as there are other restaurants in the area. - Bar: there is a bar indeed but it only works 6:00pm-9:00pm. HTH
Liked location , friendly efficient staff. Disliked lack of restaurant patchy wi fi
Pleasant.
Stayed here in order to tour WW1 battlefields with a guide. 2 nights. Room was clean, all in working order, modern. Restaurant was closed—we knew that arriving. Bar was open. Location is excellent across the River Meuse from the town center—all walkable. Staff was friendly and attentive—I would be happy to visit again.
Staff was very helpful with our requests and or needs
The hotel was a last minute booking. We were very pleased with the hotel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Great hotel!
Beautiful building great location. Staff pleasant. Room was very nice.
The restaurant was closed
Lovely stay
Great stay, lovely friendly staff. Great location to have a walk in the town.
Very helpful and polite staff. Excellent breakfast
Magnifique séjour
Hôtel magnifique qui mérite ses 4 étoiles. Qualité des prestations et gentillesse du personnel sont au rendez-vous. Parfait
Beautiful view from our room of the river. Nice breakfast. Great
This is a lovely hotel in a quaint city, with a stellar view. Close to everything. Excellent service with a superb staff. We loved everything about the hotel. Super clean, very comfortable, and ideally located.
The hotel is wonderful and almost makes you feel a part of history. Just a great place to stay! Wonderful staff! Many restaurants within walking distance. Very convenient to may WW1 points of intertest (you do need a car).
Gorgeous Hotel; Fab location; wonderful experience
This hotel was one of the best, most luxurious hotels we’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. The hotel personnel were friendly and very accommodating; our room was bright, large, and gorgeous; the food at breakfast plentiful and delicious. The hotel sits right on the river, and has a fabulous view. Because of its history, I had a bit of trepidation to stay in Verdun, but my worries were unfounded. The city is thriving and cosmopolitan, and very modern. Loved our stay.
Ghost town!
Nice hotel in a nice location. It was a real shame that the hotel restaurant was closed as there was nothing open in the town in the evening at all! Real shame.
The staff was very helpful and friendly and a great place to stay when in Verdun.
Beautiful hotel. Great staff.
A convenient stop for the town, though not much choice. Staff were welcoming. Room aircon locked so became very warm at night, hotel a little run down in places. Restaurant closed for refurb. The room price was on the high side for what it was.
Les Jardins du Mess is a charming hotel on the Meuse River in Verdun. Our room overlooked the river and the town, which lights up at night to highlight World War 1 monuments. The staff was professional and friendly, the room was spacious and well-appointed, and the lobby and breakfast rooms were lovely. It's an overall fabulous place to stay while in the area.
Excellent location
Awesome. Friendly staff, cosy atmosphere.
Excellent hotel, convenient for all the attractions and restaurants in Verdun. Junior suite overlooking the river was stunning. Everything in the hotel was modern and done to a high standard. The staff were all friendly and professional - thank you for a great stay.
The shower drain doesn’t work, but they quickly fixed it next day after my request. Our room is facing the canal side, it’s unbearably noisy from the late night party (people partied to 2am this part of the world ) outside, hotel says it’s only weekend, week days are fine. Also the wifi in the room doesn’t work at all.
My booking was misplaced. So when I arrived there was little left in rooms. They made it sound like they were giving me an upgrade but it seemed more like a room they were avoiding using....as we found out later the internet did not work nor did the mini fridge...two things we wanted....hotels response..." ah yes others had told us the internet did not work...". I asked for some sort of compensation re the room price and was flatly refused. The hotel was nice....in that it had a lovely back yard....a nice little bar area...and we met a number of folks who like us were studying the Battle of Verdun. Both our grandfathers fought in WW1 in France. One died with TB a gift of life in the trenches....he was only 40 when he died....leaving behind 5 children. The beer was great in the bar...cold.....that was where we used the internet to check in for our next flight. I think the staff could have been nicer to us...especially knowing they had lost the reservation....fortunately I had all my documentation. We are both 75 and this was the first time using Expedia....mostly because I always felt you would not be treated as well as when you booked through the hotel itself....this seemed to be a correct assessment.
The hotel was incredibly clean and well-appointed. Great location! Enjoyed our visit.
Beautiful and friendly. Great location?
Goed hotel
Mooi hotel, nieuwe kamers, uitgebreid ontbijt en zeer vriendelijk personeel. Parkeren naast hotel. In centrum.
The hotel is very clean and well maintained with high quality bed linen and towels. The staff are friendly and helpful. Even though the hotel is in a central location it is very quiet and peaceful. We had a fantastic 2 days staying there.
It was charming and centrally located. Staff was exceptionally helpful.
Beautiful Buildings and a large and comfortable bed
voyage vacances
Beautiful and newly remodeled hotel. Location was great for pedestrian shopping and public transportation. Hotel and staff were very neat and hospitable. Secured overnight parking, although parking was quoted at 10E at check-in but charged 12.5E at checkout. Breakfast buffet was amazing. Sadly, restaurant was closed for lunch & dinner and bar was "closed" although front desk offered to grab us something, if needed. No social environment at hotel. There is a beverage barge (cute) just outside hotel on water. Note that spa was also closed. All closures were due to staffing issues. No gym or workout facility. Overall, our opinion was price was high for a place to sleep. Could've grabbed a B&B or smaller hotel along the Meuse for much less in Verdun. Needed more staffing or amenities to validate rate.
I liked the excellent location and unique facade of the property. Additionally, service was excellent and staff were timely and friendly. Would highly recommend Les Jardins du Mess to anyone traveling to Verdun.
Fabulous hotel in a great location
Shag carpeting is out of date, and elevator was broken for two days, but still overall nice place. Right on the river, easy to walk to restaurants. Super nice staff.
Great location right on the river. We had a junior suite which was ver spacious, bathroom was huge with both a large tub and separate walk through shower and it’s own vanity with mirrors and a chair. The bed was a comfortable king. Our balcony looked out on the river.
The front desk staff - Laura and Violaine - were magnificent! They helped us sort out a rental car problem and were extremely professional, friendly and helpful. Thank you!
Took 10 minutes before the receptionist got of the phone,
Excellent location next to river
Hervé
Accueil très chaleureux et professionnel Hôtel à vivement recommander Petit déjeuner excellent
Excellent service!
Nice renovated hotel
Very comfortable in the center of Verdun. Close to Citadelle.
Beautiful hotel with extremely friendly staff
Beautiful hotel with a fantastic location. Our room had a lovely balcony overlooking the river. Extremely helpful front desk staff that helped us try and get a taxi in Verdun and ultimately when unable to get a taxi, the hotel manager drove us to the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Verdun and the Douaumont ossuary himself. Better customer service would not have been possible!
Great hotel well located within the city. Very easy to drive in and parking was reasonably priced for the night. Happy to have air conditioning in the room. Room was spacious and comfortable, staff was friendly and helpful. Only downside was the street noise was a little too much with a local bar on the canal right outside our window. The street noise woke us up a couple of times during the night. Would recommend a room away from the front due to the noise.
Good pace to stay
Good hotel, staff was incredibly helpful.
Go elsewhere
Who locks guest in and then out after 2100. Give a code to open the gate, not make people call a long distance number because you have no one to be at the front desk. You can’t adjust your own thermostat, you must argue at the front desk to what temperature you are comfortable with. The night manager was rude and condescending because we chose to eat at a different restaurant and not theirs, which had poor ratings. He doesn’t want outside food (our leftovers) brought into his hotel. He was arrogant, rude and not listening as we explained this was not a take away full meal.
Excellent hotel in a great location. Very nice staff and comfortable rooms. Food was very good.
Cant wait to go back.
One of the best hotels we have stayed in. The location was great and the whole experience was excellent. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was high standard. The staff were delightful, there to help but not intrusive and very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Very convenient to all the shops & restaurants. This property is clean & the staff is very friendly & helpful.
Arrived for late checkin and everything was ready even though i booked only half hour beforehand
The bed and pillows were great! The staff was super nice and the location was gorgeous! The only thing that could be better is the price of breakfast. Their continental breakfast is 16 euros each and it’s the same type of ordinary fare that is usually complimentary. However, it’s easy enough to walk down the street to cafe or patisserie and get something else! We loved the hotel!
Very good location. Staff was friendly. Good parking
Friendly and clean environment with a great view of the Meuse River and City of Verdun. Beautiful and easy area to stroll along in. places of interest and a city park nearby. Sebastion was especially helpful and pleasant to deal with.
Location & lovely garden. Staff very pleasant & helpful.
Spectacular city view on river
we were able to walk to hotel from the bus/train station. Absolutely spectacular view from city facing rooms. Booked 3 nights separately, so stayed in 3 different rooms. Junior suite had King bed and 2 twin sofas. Large tub, shower with color changing lights, robe and slippers. Classic double had 1 king they made into 2 twins since I was traveling with my son. My only fault was Room 214 had a glass panel in bathroom wall beside the toilet and bed. Pattern on the glass had clear parts. Large bath towels in all rooms. (Out of 7 different hotels in France, none had wash cloths, so bring your own) Coffee and tea in room. Cover for hidden shower drains are warping so water went out of shower till I removed drain cover. Definitely would go again cause I did...... Rented car and drove to WW1 forts and sites about 25 min away.
This is a great hotel, but we found the resteraunt food quality wanting and 1/2 the rooms had an air conditioning problem.
Location on the river is charming and convenient. Parking lot adjacent to hotel.
Hotel was comfortable and well located near restaurants. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Hotel parking (for a fee) is conveniently located right next to hotel.
Highly recommended
The hotel is at a very good location with friendly and helpful staff and own car park. Got a nice room with a balcony and a great view of the river and the city. Was invited by the hotel management to their French national day celebrations, extremely generous! The hotel was also the perfect spot to see the national day fireworks - who were massively impressive. The WW1 battlefields close by are well preserved and can be reached by car in 10 minutes or by bike in 30 and offer a horrific and sobering insight into the lives of the soldiers some 100 years ago. A visit is highly recommended.
Loved the view from the room.
The service was spot on from the moment we arrived. The hotel itself has a pleasant feel and the rooms are comfortable and well appointed. I personally loved the view from the room of the city. The location is very central and within walking distance of everything you need. The wifi was strong and reliable
Great location - nice room - friendly staff
Very nice room. Lovely view. Friendly staff. Can recommend it any time😃
Lovely, well-appointed hotel at which I have stayed four times in the past two years. Never had a complaint until this year when, upon my arrival, the Reception was totally unyielding on the matter of early check-in. Arrived at the hotel at 1:30 in the afternoon, and was promptly told that I had come "too early" and that check-in was not until 4:00. They made no effort even to check whether a room was cleaned and ready, just quoted me the policy. Thought it surprisingly unaccommodating and not particularly welcoming.
A very nice hotel in the middle of Verdun. The facility was very nice and I highly recommend. Easy access to historical sights. Staff was great!
Great historic hotel in Verdun
This is a fantastic hotel, right on the banks of the Muese and very convenient to the riverfront restaurants and nightlife. Everything was fantastic, breakfast was good and the bed was wonderful. We gave the "comfort"question a middle mark, however, because we could not control the temperature in our room ourselves. We had to call the front desk and talk them into turning on the air conditioning (our room faced west so got quite hot in the afternoon). If we could have managed this ourselves, we'd have given them high marks all the way.
Verdun trip
2nd stay at this beautiful Hotel. Had a room overlooking the river. Staff very helpful and an excellent breakfast.
Great place to stay
Hotel is really nice - service was amazing
An older looking building with new and fresh interior designs. We were given a room overlooking the river, which was nice, but it was a beautiful warm day and the room was very warm with full sun exposure. The AC is controlled by the desk and even when we were told that the AC was on full it was barely working. We would have slept with the balcony door open but there's a party barge on the river that stays open until 1 or 2 a.m. The breakfast buffet was one of the best we encountered on our trip! Had the AC worked better we would have left without a complaint to offer! A-
Staff were very nice. Nothing more to add. Stop asking for more or I'll give you a negative rating.
Traditional looking hotel with a modern twist!
Absolutely fabulous hotel in a fabulous location. The room was beautiful with a great view from the balcony over the fountain. Reception desk staff were very helpful & friendly. Lovely breakfasts. Highly recommended.
Wonderful hotel: clean, spacious, great location, and free parking. Room was very comfortable; staff was terrific; breakfast was ample and tasty. The place to stay for a visit to Verdun.
This is a great location. Reception was very good and helpful.
Gorgeous hotel
The hotel is a hugely imposing building on the riverfront opposite one of the city gates. There is onsite parking for €15. I was irritated when I arrived as were kept waiting at reception while the guy was on the phone, to be fair I'd had a long day and would have been irritated by most things! After that the service we received was exemplary. We had a lovely room overlooking the river and with a nice balcony for taking in the views. The room was quiet and had plenty of power sockets and decent wifi. The location was superb - we walked to everywhere we wanted to go in the town itself and it seemed a very pleasant area. A pain having to pay an extra €15 to park though as the rooms were hardly cheap .... One plus was the midday checkout - that allowed us to do some more exploring before loading the car up before heading to Metz.
Lovely hotel and very helpful staff.
Brilliant location set right on the riverbank and a wonderful hotel.
Well located, comfortable and excellznt view on the river Meuse and hisprical center
Lovely hotel
Lovely hotel in prime position in town. Very comfortable rooms.
Great location.....
Great location. In classic European fashion, would not let us check in 50 minutes early. Overall great facility, but when paying a premium, you prefer some better service.
Fine hotel
Really nice hotel and I extended my stay two days. The key downside was that I flew overnight from the USA, drove from Paris and arrived at 12:30pm. Room was ready but it cost 25 euros to check in before 4pm. I slept in the car until 4pm. Would recommend this hotel for anyone who does not need to check in before 4pm.
Would very much recommend staying at Les Jardins du Mess. Beautiful property, close vicinity to restaurants/bars, friendly staff and very modern rooms.
I’ve been coming go verdun for many years and always thought the old officers mess building would make a great hotel. I’m glad someone finally utilized this historic landmark. They did a wonderful job.
Perfect place to stay
Everything was in good order. The room was clean and roomy. The staff was super helpful. We visited all the World War One sites in the area.
An excellent hotel with a huge bedroom & bathroom
It is a fantastic hotel with a huge bedroom and excellent bathroom. Our room looked out over the river Meuse and the main quay of Verdun. It is a five minute walk from several restaurants (although the hotel itself had a very good restaurant) and two minute walk from the Tourist Information office. It had an adjacent, secure car park with many spaces charged at €15 per day. Our only criticism was the bad mattress was too soft for our particular liking. Everything else about the hotel was superb.
Great location but unworkable air conditioning and the hotel smelled like stale cooking oil. Had to leave windows open to clear out odor.
Fabulous hotel in a perfect location
Stunning hotel with immaculate decor and fabulous view of the city from the balcony. Friendly and informative staff who gave us dining recommendations and points of interest. We stay in many hotels - this is up there with one of the best. The secure car park was a completely added bonus in a city location We will definitely return.
This hotel is ideally located and there is plenty to do nearby. There are also plenty of restaurants a short walk away. The staff are helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable, with a lovely modern bathroom and excellent shower.
The hotel is very centrally located and has easy parking.
Wonderful hotel
Lovely hotel in a brilliant position. Very large and comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. Only problem was that the evening menu was in French and we could have done with more help translating it
Great Hotel and on the river
Great room, but we had (1) king bed and (2) twins in same room. Had to share bathroom, but bathroom was huge. Had huge tube and separate shower. Expensive place to stay and eat, but clean, safe, close to town and has a great river view.
I wanted to see the sites from the battle of Verdun and had just flown over from the USA: I needed a nice, comfortable hotel and Les Jardins more than delivered. It was the perfect choice. The room was clean, updated, and the bed was large and comfortable. Parking in Verdun is a headache but the hotel has spacious and free parking. Some good, walkable restaurant choices too.
Perfectly situated hotel with private parking
We have stayed here before because it's in a very interesting area. The battlefields site is fascinating, especially the Ossuaire. We found the dinner excellent, worthy of a Michelin star, but perhaps over elaborate for driving on a long journey for several days.
Lovely hotel overlooking the river and town. Close to shops and restaurants.
Very comfortable, quiet and modern hotel in a town of great interest and significance. Would definitely stay there again.
Central location
Lovely room and very friendly staff. Overloooking the river in the centre of Verdun.
Excellent
A wonderful stay.

The beds and pillows were the most comfortable of our trip; the staff was welcoming and helpful. Our stay here was our favorite hotel of our entire trip; couldn't have asked for a better place! We hope to return soon. Thank-you!
