I can't say enough how friendly and accommodating the staff were. We were a large party (9 people) and they arranged a last minute restaurant reservation and transport for us without any hesitation on a busy evening. Also, the location and the resort itself were breathtaking and their pictures don't do it justice. Will definitely be returning.
We drove 6 hours to have a girls spoil weekend and when we arrived the WiFi and the hot water were not working. We didn’t have hot water until the next morning 9am.
Sold this room with zero electricity.
Don't bother with breakfast
the accomodation was ok as always, but the breakfast was an absolute disgrace. Very poor service, being told we had to pay for hollandaise sauce as only buffet available, the food was cold, had to grab staff as they just left us, sat there for 20 mins before being attended to, dirty tables, cold coffee, asked 2 people for hp or tomato sauce, never got - very disappointed, we did this as a present for a wedding anniversary, and was left very underwhelmed. We have to consider if to book with you again, we have been a long term customer of yours and this time was totally let down, even though we paid more than twice as much as normal as high season. The restaurant was not busy, no glasses for orange juice, the juice was empty anyway but besides the point, the staff didn't have uniforms, apart from one guy, dirty t-shirts, most of the staff looked like they just woke up in last nights clothes. Very unprofessional. Very disappointed with the stay if we have to be honest. Your standards have really dropped in the last 12 months.
Oasis of calm in wine country…
Amazing little place slightly off the beaten track in Franschoek, but worth it. Had an beautiful villa with amazing staff who couldn’t have been more friendly… would recommend to everyone!
The property is beautiful and room amazing. The town center and restaurants are an easy drive away. The only small negative was the light pollution in our room which faced the road. It would be better to take a lake view room. All in all a wonderful stay.
A perfect spot for a weekend away
I made a booking at this hotel for a weekend away with friends and it was fantastic. The room was spacious and well equipped with everything we needed. We chose to have breakfast included in the stay which was delicious and abundant. Tucked under the mountains, the villa's made us feel like we were in our own little French Village. The hotel is slightly outside of the main street of Franschhoek, so it helped that we had our own car for easy access in and out of town.
What a gem
Excellent property for a luxury get away
A hotel to use
We read very average reviews on this hotel but we’re pleAsantly surprised. Rooms were clean staff were friendly and breakfasts were fine
WEEKEND AWAY
Our stay was amazing - Gavin and his staff were amazing all requests were attended to and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you
Was good over all. Breakfast was disappointing. Service and staff all good and friendly
Amazing views and super friendly staff
This was one of the most amazing places we stayed at . The 360 degree views from our apartment were unbelievable and the staff were so friendly and helpful .. we didn’t feel like leaving at the end of our stay ! Would definitely return if we were I. Franschoek again .
Beautiful villa with an amazing view of the lake and mountains. Very spacious and clean.
Happy with stay.
Was advertised as a room with a bath and separate shower but there was only a shower. Not a huge disappointment but bot what was advertised.
The furniture outside needs attention
The villa was lovely, however couple of small issues - the light switches are electronic and incredibly bright, so disrupt your sleep. Phone to reception wasn’t working which was somewhat frustrating. The pool we were slightly disappointed with, it was small for the number of people staying on the estate so there was rarely any room.
Quick Getaway
Nice rooms, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great!
excellent
It was so amazing, the breakfast was great, the villa was amazing, the service great the stuff amazing
Incredible
Incredible location. Beautiful rooms and exceptional service. The best hotel in Franschhoek
Another enjoyable trip, a few things to address.
Always love L'Ermitage... but a few errors on the last trip. Booked water facing suite, but was told that it was overbooked and was put in a room with no view. Only one plug in the room worked. No waters or gowns in the room. Overall still an amazing place with very friendly staff and good vibe. Just needs some attention to detail.
Great Stay
Absolutely amazing. Great room, service and views
Hidden gem
The accommodation was beyond our expectations and the views were unbelievable. An easy walk into Franschhoek (less than 1 mile)
Excellent
Excellent. We had two one bedroom flats as we were a group of three friends. Both the flats overlooked the lake and were wonderfully decorated. The staff were all welcoming and lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only issue is that the location is on the outskirts of the town and whilst we were told they have a shuttle it does not run on Sunday. They did organise a car and the driver gave us good tips on the area. Overall wonderful stay and would recommend.
Unit no 29 needs a serious makeover
The issues I have is not with the staff but with your upkeep of unit no 29. The units are privately owned so the hotel manage the units for the owners. The one we stayed in smelled awful, like a sewerage. The bedroom smelled like a wet carpets. Mould skirting in the main bedroom. And last but not least we had ants in the main bedrooms bed the evening. It was an unpleasant stay and the hotel was notified upon my check in about the issues we had. Unfortunately we will not return.
Very impressed with villa, staff and positio
We were very happy no complaints
For the price you pay, the coffee is cheap, the coach was broken, the wifi was very weak, and for self catering there was not enough cutlery and crockery. It felt like you were getting low budget service.
Disgusting and very disappointed.
We did not get the accommodation that we paid for and was put into a room with torn linen a big whole in the lounge wall (that was being repaired), no slippers, no gown, no splash pool, no batteries in the remote, curtains came off the curtain hooks and the front door would not lock. (Was promised that maintenance would repair the door that evening, but was never done. We had to put a chair in front of the door to keep it close) We reported all the problems to reception and was told that they where fully book and could not assist us. We were moved to a slightly better room only the following evening at 19h00, but this was still not the room we paid for. I have asked for a refund for the weekend and have still had no communication from your company or the Hotel.
Great stop off for visiting wine country
We booked this hotel as a slight stab in the dark when visiting wine country. The hotel was great, massive room with a huge bed, living area, kitchen and bathroom. Stunning views from the balcony. The staff were brilliant, helped us book somewhere for dinner, organised taxis at a moments notice and were generally very friendly. Would definitely stay here again if I returned to Franschhoek.
No room at the inn.
Hotel was double booked so first night we were upgraded to a suite complete with kitchen and dining room. Then came the bad news... No space for us on the second night. A nearby B&B was arranged for us together with a profuse apology. Hopefully this was a one off.
Hotel beautiful
Room was outstanding, hotel in beautiful location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Loved everything about this hotel - a real gem!
great
wonderful
Beautiful villas
Unfortunately when we arrived the 3 bed villa was not available as booked - hotel gave us a 1 & 2 bed villa - the 1 bed had poor water pressure & fridge didn't work. Food in restuarant was excellent.
Disappointing stay
The situation and the accommodation are superb, but that is where it stops. Firstly we had to change rooms shortly after arrival because the air conditioning and the Television were not functioning. The second room had a functioning TV and we thought the air conditioning was working which proved not to be the case. However having moved once already we decided to stay put. The room is beautiful and the view of the mountain is superb, but the hotel management has not kept pace with basic maintenance like towel rails falling off the wall, poorly equipped kitchenette ( no cork screw or wash up liquid, dish cloth, curtains falling off rails etc.) Breakfast is far from 4 * quality. The staff are poorly trained and the table settings inadequate ( no serviettes, no side plates, no glasses etc.) The buffet breakfast is very basic ( eg. tinned fruit instead of fresh seasonal fruit). The front desk was highly apologetic regarding all the faults and told us that the hotel is under new ownership who are obviously unaware of the condition of the property and the way it is mismanaged. This is extremely poor value for money and we hope that the new owners will do something about it.
Avoid if you can.
I am in the process of logging a complaint and requesting a refund.
Beautiful!
great place, beautiful part of the world. Happy and eager service staff.
Roses everywhere!
Located in a beautiful part of the world. Everywhere you go there are roses; as you turn a corner there are flowers. Rooms are tastful modern European. Gorgeous with out being over the top.
Very, very disappointing! We stayed at this hotel in 2010 and were very impressed but it does seem that they have now "lost the plot". We were not given the accommodation we had booked until we were really insistent, and they tried to fob us off with a self-catering apartment rather than the luxury hotel room we had booked 5 months previously; there was no restaurant open due to a "staff function"; the room clearly had not had a deep clean for some time; animal excrement lay on the grass near the pool throughout our 3-day stay; lounger cushions were stained and ripped; the final straw was being kept awake for hours on a windy night due to a broken guttering banging in the wind against the wall of the bedroom. Had I not made payment in full in advance, I would certainly not have been paying for that night! We never had the private plunge pool stated on the booking, nor were there robes and slippers in the room. Will not return to this hotel or recommend it to others.
Good if there's not a wedding
A nice hotel with great facilities but don't expect service if there is a wedding there. No glasses for drinks, food poor with Inedible beef. not told we were the only people in entire restaurant. No bar staff following meal, we had to go and find someone. Rooms are great and the spa is brilliant, experienced and friendly. A great shame the hotel didn't hire extra staff so it's normal guests got what they paid for.
quite formal but luxurious
Quite a formal hotel. We stayed in one of the villas - and overall quite dark - not bright and light. Great bedrooms, plenty of room in the whole villa and good facilities. We were disappointed that the advertised deli was closed and the we had to be told twice where the swimming pool was - we had walked past it at least 10 times, but didn't recognise the dirty water feature with a fountain as a swimming pool! It wasn't like any swimming pool we had ever seen before. we were staying in October so not peak season. The Spa treatments were good. We didn't realise that breakfast was included in our deal, so wasted money and effort going out for breakfast or cooking in our villa. Didn't eat in the restaurant - much too formal to take children to.
SA Wine Country Break
THis hotel provides a 10/10 service. The rooms are beautiful, the location is stunning, their food is sumptious and the the staff are polite and friendly without being intrusive.
Fantastiskt vackert ställe med grym service och trevlig personal. Frukosten är superfin. Har bara gott att säga om detta ställe.
Excellent
Wonderful stay. Very nice apartment with beautiful view. The staff very friendly and helpful.
Gorgeous place in all meanings!
Absolutely beautiful place surrounded by mindblowing nature with mauntains, pond with fishes, and vineyards. The hotel is sophisticated, seclude and peaceful. Extremely spacious room and bathroom with two basins, shower cabin and bath tub. Big space, high cellings and a lot of lights! The personnel is kind, attentive and extremely helpful. Gavin, the hotel manager, is exceptional, highly professional and the absolute treasure. He surrounds the guests with the five star hotel care and shares great recommendations on making the days in Franschhoek remarkable. We had a wonderful time thanks to Gavin and will definitely return with the rest of family. The breakfast is beautiful ( quick in service, attentive, with possibility to choose both a la carte and from open buffet), with the possibility to be seated indoors and outdoors on the garden and lakeshore. Special thanks for the breakfast service to Fakazile who turn the breakfast into a joy and Yugine!
O quarto do hotel é excelente!! Café da manhã com bastante opções!!
Mooie ligging, lekker ontbijt, ruime kamers.
Geweldig! Luxe, mooie ligging uitstekende service.

The property is simply stunning. It’s so charming and the staff are wonderful. It’s a 20 min walk from the Main Street in Franschoek or a few pounds in an Uber. Don’t use the recommended car service from the hotel as it was 3 x more expensive than an Uber. Out toom eas lovely with a small kitchen are and separate dressing room and bathroom with both a huge bath and a separate shower. The buffet breakfast was lovely and the views even better!
