Super special place
Amazing immersion experience in the jungle. The grounds and the 360 experience cabin were so beautiful. Included breakfast was super fresh and delicious each morning and we were able to get laundry service on site. The cabin has interior walls, full bathroom and functional kitchen with propane cooktop, fridge and cooking utensils. The exterior walls are mesh, with privacy curtains if you feel the need. The location is towards the edge of the property, and while you are close to everything, you never feel exposed. The wildlife is LOUD in the mornings, so awesome. Expect some bugs, small gecko's inside, but the beds are set up with mosquito nets as well. wifi in the cabin was a bit patchy, but strong in the peaceful common area close by.
Very nice accommodation literally in the middle of the jungle. The rooms are surrounded by pure nature. Great place to disconnect from the outside world: no TV, no A/C (not needed as it was cool enough end of September), lots of birds and monkeys outside. Only thing I would improve is the water pressure in the shower. We were lucky enough that there were no other guests in the property, so it was very quiet all the time, except for the howling monkeys early in the morning, but come on, you’re in their habitat 🐒
The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was awesome! Very unique this place! Family owned Rossy make sure we were comfortable!!!
You will not be able to wear shoes which would not be a problem normally but at this hotel you will have to walk down 1in x4in planks that are loose and popping up at times several feet above the ground. Not having AC and hot water weren’t a big deal in October but I did not expect low safety standards. I felt like I was going to fall through the planks several times.
La Shamana is definitely all about the nature!!! The property is perfect to be away from it all, but make sure you have what you need before you head in for the day/night. The road in/out is a bit tricky, steep and rocky so 4x4 is a requirement. Also, for me, it felt like we needed to be super quiet to not disturb others at night... I am not sure if this the case, but worth an ask before booking if you have night owl tendencies like me because there is no one to ask at night besides the monkeys and sloths :-D
great location
The lodge is great! it situated in the middle of the forest. Every morning we woke up to the roar of the howling monkeys and the chirping of the birds. The lodge is simple and we were disappointed that we could not prepare any hot drinks during our stay. The lodge offered paid breakfast only and fresh drinking water. If we want hot drinks, we had to drive to the nearest town.
My friend and I stayed at La Shamana for one night and it was such a lovely experience! We were greeted by Rossy who was so kind and welcoming. Our room was stunning with a beautiful view of the jungle and a great big shower. We could hear lots of nature sounds from our room and were woken by howler monkeys in the middle of the night - a bit of a scary sound at first, but it turned into kind of a beautifully unique experience (they are known to be the loudest land animal on earth!). Rossy made us a delicious breakfast in the morning which we had in the beautiful common area. I would definitely come back here on my next trip to Costa Rica and i would highly recommend this place to others!! A couple of things to note: 1) the road to get to La Shamana is a little bumpier but we were fine with our 2-wheeler (i think we would have had an issue if it was raining though)… 2) there is no air conditionning in the rooms, but we had a ceiling fan and it was very comfortable!
Nice stay in the jungle 10 min by car from Cahuita
Nice stay! note that the lodge is 10 minutes far away from Cahuita by car for 5000 colones. Or if you have a car its olay Nice rooms and bathroom. Shared areas nice. Possibility of good breakfast and dinners. Owners kind :)
Lovely rooms and bathrooms. Wifi spotty. Instructions to find the lodge could be more explanatory and in English too. Cleaning staff helpful and friendly
The hosts were wonderful ..... waking up to the animals was a pleasure
A wonderful place in the middle of the jungle with an amazing view from your bed. But if you stay there you have to be a friend of spiders. There are a lot around the accomodation.
Echte „Pura Vida“
Expected more from our stay
We had a nice stay here and enjoyed the Caribbean side of CR. We were however not impressed by this accommodation, in our opinion it did not deliver enough value for the money we paid. The breakfast is very nice and the chef very friendly, but that was excluded and cost extra. All minimum services are there, but we have stayed at better places for less money and better hospitality. I guess my suggestion would be to either make it an AirBnB where the guest can use the shared kitchen, or be indeed a full service hotel and go the extra mile reflecting this price.

This place is a sham! First off they approved early check in and when we got there they said it wasn’t ready so we had to wait around. There were people cutting the trees all day which was so noisy and defeated the calming Retreat we wanted. The pool had so many dead bugs in it we didn’t want to swim. The hot water in the room was non existent and the water pressure was a trickle. We could hear every single thing the people next door did, from talking to showering and using the restroom. It’s much further from the main road than 1 mile and they don’t offer any beverages, snacks etc for sale. When we asked to leave a day early because we weren’t happy and didn’t want to endure more cold showers and hearing the neighbors they denied us a refund. We checked out by 10am and left the room in tip top shape. We had Expedia contact them and they still denied us a refund. We wasted $244 but only wanted a refund for the 1 night we didn’t stay. This place is nothing as advertised! The owners are rude when they don’t like what you have to say. The walkways are rock and mud, the wooden slats on the way to the rooms feel like they are going to snap at any moment. The bedding smelled like it was washed in dirty water and the mosquito nets around the bed were old and dirty. Stay far far away from this place!
