My stay at La Pirogue overall was excellent. The grounds & decorations for Christmas were beautifully done, & the uptake of the grounds are apparent. The hotel had many activities for families & health activities which were nice to see. I decided to do a work out class at 8am but the instructor never showed. Not a huge deal, I went to the beach instead. The rooms are very spacious & beautifully decorated- in a beachy feel. Bathroom is a nice size. The shower pressure was very nice. The air conditioner unit in the room was high up on the ceiling. It was at 18C (64F) & didnt seem to do much. It should have been freezing in the room but was not. It may have just been that room (88) but unsure. It automatically switched off when you left the room, which was a nice eco friendly option. The bed wasnt the worst, but wasnt the best either. A nice touch was on Xmas Eve they left gifts in the guest rooms, a stocking full of candy and some other treats. I was half board (meaning it included breakfast and dinner but I paid for all beverages- soda, water, alcohol) The buffet style dinner reminded me of a cruise ship, lots of options, not the best quality but I managed to find something. Again, the spread for Xmas Eve was stunning. The manager of the property Vyas is very caring & attentive to the needs and wants to see the clientele happy, which is very refreshing and appreciated. The beach is gorgeous. Some staff friendly, some not. Mostly they were. I would go again without hesitation

The tv was sorted but bathroom shower needed proper ventilation and fittings. Overall our family had beautiful memories to cherish forever. Thanks 🙏

My review is on the Sister property Sugar Beach as we received a free upgrade to stay there which was way better. The Sugar Beach property was very well maintained beautiful and updated we really enjoyed our stay, lots of loungers by the adult pool and lots of space on the beach and great rattan covered beds on the beach and nature built umbrellas. The Buffet had a lot to offer and staff tried there best but it was so busy they had issues with one of there coffee water machines and there was not enough coffee/tea cups every morning. We enjoyed two dinners at restuarants on site and they were great. (Buddha Bar and Citronella)

We had a lovely stay at La Pirogue. The hotel has ~200 huts all ground level with amazing grounds that have hundreds of palm trees. There is a sister hotel next door you can use the facilities of, you can order drinks there (and most places included for AI), but they do give you funny looks which we thought was strange. Lots of things to do such as canoeing, paddle boarding, mini golf, petanque, snorkelling all included in the price. I really do recommend the all inclusive if you drink as many cocktails available.

We are a family of 4. We normally stay in another 4* hotel but this time decided to try La Pirogue. To our surprise the service was amazing. The staffs from check-in to check-out made our stay memorable. A few names to mention, Feroz who really looked after us, also Lobin always making sure we were happy. Kristel at the bar in the evening took great care of us. Also at the miniclub Aarti took great care of our children. Pascal Toussaint was excellent and gave great customer service with care. Overall we were well satisfied with the service received and will definitely come back. Thank you once again to the staffs who made us feel very welcomed.

Mauritius is paradise on earth, my husband and I had a blast, food and customer service were top, every evening we had a themed dinner, also the possibility to try out their additional restaurants was totally worth it. Vijay at the bar restaurant at the pool was the best, really kind and always remembering you and offering the best service, the Mauritian food (noodles) were exquisite! The wine bar was also a really nice experience, were you could tap a card and try a variety of wines from different parts of the world. Also there was a band playing for around 2 hours every evening during dinner and after dinner, we could dance and enjoy somehow a feeling of “normality” in the middle of this pandemic, so excellent job, we gathered beautiful memories of kids and families enjoying live music and dancing along. The beach was clean and beautiful, quiet because the hotel was hosting only 150 people at that time, so we had almost a “private” beach to enjoy for ourselves. We felt safe, because of the COVID testing and the professionalism at the hotel. We definitely would love to come back in the future, we had a beautiful, rested and recharging time thanks to the hotel crew!

Pros: The property is expansive and well-maintained with lots of on-site activities like tennis, bocce, diving, etc.. The grounds and beach are beautiful. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed. Entertainment was excellent most nights. The wine bar which offers 50 bottles hermetically sealed and dispensed by the taste or glass is a real draw. Cons: The food in the main restaurant Wolmar where the half board meals are served was truly awful. I've never been served consistently worse food at a 4/5 star hotel. Even breakfast was disappointing. Mealtime was never something to look forward to. On the plus side, I lost 1.5 kilos during my stay.

Beautiful hotel, excellent facilities.

A very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. A beautiful resort. Spacious with excellent facilities and friendly, attentive staff. We celebrated 2 birthdays, for myself and my son while we were there and both were acknowledged with a cake and a beautiful elephant towel creation and message in frangipani petals left on our bed and for me an invitation to Magenta restaurant. The beach is beautiful with plenty of sunbeds and the free use of stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, paddle boats etc was a bonus. Reef shoes are best worn as the coral on the beach is sharp and there are sea urchins in the shallow water. The snorkelling from the beach is amazing. The food in the buffet was different every night and delicious. Long trousers are a requirement for men at dinner. A bit disappointing to see many in jeans and t-shirt. Maybe a collared shirt should be required and guests informed of this before they leave home. We had to buy long pants for our son (14) in a shop down the road as we didn't take any. Overall a top class hotel. We would certainly return.

Chic hotel with best view & service!

We enjoyed our stay immensely at La Pirogue! It should be 5 star, not only 4 star. Everything was amazing from the natural beauty of the hotel, close proximity to the beach, the comfort of our chic, comfy room to the friendly & accommodating hotel staff. I eat pescatarian and found a fairly good variety of food to eat during our stay at this hotel. My favorite dish was the vegetarian samosas. That pimente chili sauce they are served with is to die for! LOVED the new wine bar at the hotel also! I will definitely stay at this hotel again in the future. No reason to look anywhere else. Bisham, the security director was incredibly helpful with anything we needed. Abhi was our favorite bartender in the lobby bar, Medine. Tilagam works in the hotel gift shop behind Medine. She is a gem and was extremely helpful to us while we stayed in the hotel. Deven parks his taxi across from the hotel. We highly recommend walking across to look for him for any day trips. His car is very nice & air conditioned. He is an excellent tour guide & will take you wherever you want to go! BTW we are Americans and did not meet anyone from the US or Canada while here. It was mostly French tourists. Met some extremely nice Australians and a lovely family from Switzerland. English is spoken everywhere in the hotel and throughout the island.

A great value hotel

We stayed at La Pirogue for 6 nights at the end of August for the first half of our honeymoon and had a brilliant time. The staff were friendly and helpful, and our garden room looked as though it had recently been refurbished. Although not gourmet, the food is really nice and they put on different buffets every night so there's always something different. We were all inclusive, but they sent a bottle of bubbles to our room and invited us to a 4 course meal at Magenta, which was lovely. You can also use the pool/beach and restaurants at the hotel next-door (Sugar Beach), which I'd highly recommend - we had dinner at the restaurant on the beach and the food was brilliant. There was some refurbishment going on whilst we were staying at La Pirogue so there was some noise around the pool area during the day, but I understand this will be completed soon and it didn't really bother us - we could use the pool at Sugar Beach anyway. I'd highly recommend La Pirogue!

Great hotel - all you need.

This is very good hotel - they have a great & big beach. They gave us romantic dinner right after they heard that we are celebrating our honeymoon. The activities are great we have done twice the snorkeling- that was really awesome. The staff are very nice. It felt like they clean our room every hour... In the hotel you have everything - you don't need nothing from outside of it. It's a little bit expensive to buy a water on the beach and also to play in the "hockey table".

My husband and I enjoyed very much our 2-week stay as a couple. All rooms in separate bungalows overlook a magnificent coconut park and beautiful landscaped gardens in front of a nice very long beach. We really liked a lot the whole natural environment and natural feeling of the hotel. Everything at the hotel is well organised. However, car rental, excursions and taxi hiring are very expensive. ITEMS STOLEN AT LA PIROGUE

Because I had a late flight, I arranged to stay at the resort a few hours after checkout. I had placed most of my jewelry in my locked luggage but had left out my earrings and finger rings (all of which was of modest value). It was not until 3 hours after I surrendered the key to the room that I realized that I had left the finger rings behind in one of the coffee cups in the room. I returned to find the cup had been washed and the rings were gone. I immediately went to the front desk to report it only to find that the person who cleaned the room had left for the day, obviously with my rings in their possession. To date, these rings have not turned up in spite of an “investigation.” (The manager told me “you should have used the safe.” How if I had already checked out?) I can state and the resort is fully aware that whomever cleaned that room and washed that coffee cup had taken those rings. When you take something that is not yours, it is STEALING. In all of my travels I have stayed in well over 100 hotels from 5 start luxury to apt-hotels just one step up from a hostel, some with safes, some without. Never anything taken. NEVER. In my opinion, it is a sad testament to the disdain for the guests and the total disrespect for their employer that a staff member would think nothing of pocketing items that were clearly not meant to be left behind and then lie about having taken the items. All I can say is “visit at your own peril.” THIEVES!!!!!!!! SHAMEFUL

Beautiful surroundings

We went to this hotel for a wedding Rooms are great,we had a beautiful view of the sunset everynight Beach is very clean Scuba diving from the hotel was well worth it. We saw beautiful eaglerays, sharks, lion fish, stone fish just to name a few things! Free green fees for the golf is a bit misleading. They forget to mention that the golf course is on the other side of the island and will take you at least 1 1/2 hours to get there ,if not more, but that being said it was worth the trip as it is quite spectacular. We went swimming with the dolphins in the ocean, again we had a great time. Only draw back is the fact you have to sign for everything, even if you are all inclusive, this makes it very time consuming. Service at the main beach bar was a bit slow.

Very welcoming at check in, all staff very pleasant and efficient check in. No beach towel cards included with check in. Asked about any allergies but no further information given as my son has nut allergy, had to ask at each station. Very limited selection for him (2) and had to bring own cereal for him. Lovely pool and very clean poolside, although you can't use until 11.00 as they are still cleaning. Very clean resort and nice to walk around, although renovation works in block next to us. Easy walk to other resort next door and can use facilities. Does not seem very family or young child orientated, expected that we will use the kids club (nursery) for meals and all day. Only play area for young ones is in kids club, open till 22.00, but some broken toys. Advertised entertainment but nothing really in the evening. Was told to leave and go to play area with our son as no children allowed in entertainment area. That attitude ruined our short stay. Would not stay there again.

Great Hospitality at La Pirogue

From friendly staff to awesome amenities, La Pirogue had it all. The affiliation with sugar beach next door made the deal sweeter (pun intended). Food was good (even for vegetarians) and the complete lack of tall buildings and the private cottages instead made for a perfect view, fresh air and the great July weather made the vacation a perfect get away. its complete value for money and i highly recommend it for family as there is a little for everyone. The best part is, none of the videos online or reviews were ever misleading and the hotel delivered on every promise. loved it.

Local architecture with comfort and privacy

A beautiful hotel right on the beach. The cottages with the local architecture assure you of privacy even though the hotel was full when we went. Our four year old son enjoyed the pool, the beach and the complimentary facilities of pedal boats, kayaking.

Beautiful grounds, excellent service, great escape

This was our first trip to Mauritius and we were so pleased when we arrived at our hotel. The grounds are as beautiful as they look in the photos. We were immediately made to feel welcome, with a refreshing drink upon arrival. Despite arriving before the check-in time of 2pm, the hotel quickly prepared our room so that we were able to settle in by around noon. We really appreciated this after a long flight. Throughout our stay, the service was really wonderful. Every single member of staff we came across was attentive (but not too in your face), friendly, chatty and quick. We were never left waiting. The room had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. La pirogue's beach was lovely, clean and not at all crowded. We appreciated the provision of beach towels, the complimentary glass-bottomed boat trip and the wonderful selection of desserts in the evenings. I would certainly visit again if i get the chance.

Nice Beach and good watersports, average elsewhere

We loved the beach area and having stayed at a few other hotels around the island, this beach was by far the best. Huge, private feeling beach, warm sea, shallow, good for swimming and snorkling as well as the watersports. Watersports at the hotel were superb and we tried most of them. They were available pretty much whenever you wanted and if you wanted to do the snorkeling (definitely recommended) or glass bottom boat then you will need to book a day or so in advance. The hotel is also a reasonably (30 mins give or take) walk from flic en flac which although being small has some lovely places to eat, all of which are very cheap. Food was generally a reasonable quality and the main restaurant was a buffet style and given the large size of the hotel meant it was a bit hectic with many kids flying around. Activities were pretty good including table tennis and crazy golf. We also tried to book onto some of the other activities like a cycling tour however it was full despite us trying to book well in advance. The room was also OK, it was quite simple and a little dated, the bathroom in particular was quite poor for the price of the room! Cleaning was also a bit over the top as the rooms smelt strongly of bleach every day. The bed though was comfortable and the setting of the huts in the gardens was excellent.Overall the hotel was reasonably good in most areas with the beach and watersports standing out as being excellent.

Fantastic wedding

I got married here last week and they made us feel like royalty. We did nothing, they planned everything for us. We had a fantastic 6 course lobster meal on the beach with a bonfire and the most beautiful sunset. Everything is catered for with first class service. The next morning we had champagne breakfast in our room with staff waiting to take our order for a cooked breakfast. I felt like Wills and Kate! It was just wonderful, nothing is too much trouble

Lovely hotel with lovely staff

We stayed at La Pirogue Hotel for about a week. The hotel is literally next to the beach which is pretty much private. The swimming pool overlooks the ocean. We arrived way too early but the hotel staff quickly made are room ready for us. Staff are everywhere and if you need something there is always someone to help. Room was very nice and clean. There is also a secure electronic safe in all the rooms for valuable items. The food served in the hotel is also amazing. Overall, we had an excellent and pleasant stay there.

wunderfull sunny beach

Very nice enviroment. Good for snorkeling. Please wear bathshues not to get blessed by the corals. Wear also glasses while swimming to see some beatiful fish and corals and do not stand on them. It s a pitty many are dead..the hotel spends lot for careing the gardens. Many possibilities of watersports which are free. Tennis also. Breakfast ist wunderfull and all the people working very friendly and helpfull. Allthough the reception is not really customerfriendly. Thiscwas the only negative point.

Gardens are beautiful

We stayed 10 nights, lovely resort, the grounds are stunning and very well maintained. We stayed in a garden view room, a little dated; however not a big deal as you only use it for sleep. Food is great, half board (brekky & dinner) that's plenty or there is a potential to put on weight. Overall lovely stay.

Kid friendly, great beach, comfortable room

We had a beachfront room and were very happy we booked it because the view was stunning. The hotel is extremely kid friendly. The pool was great. It overlooked the beach. There was plenty of space and lounge chairs on the beach. There was less space around the pool, but we always managed to get a seat. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I loved the water sports center. The staff there were friendly. Many activities were free (paddle boating, kayaking, glass bottom boat), and others were paying (snorkeling, dolphin watching, fishing, etc). We enjoyed both types of activities. The facility was also very clean. I was thankful that they cleaned our room twice a day because of the sand. Food and drinks were extremely expensive, but I understand that this is the case in all of the resorts. We stopped at a grocery store and bought water, snacks, and wine for our room. Turned out to be a great idea and convenient for us. Very enjoyable vacation. I highly recommend this place for families. It's a large resort. For a romantic getaway, I would choose a smaller resort.

Catamaran day trip a highlight & would recommend it. We did it with an 8 & 2 year old and we all enjoyed it. Grounds stunning. Food heavenly. We upgraded to all inclusive once there as it's not terribly close to restaurants etc. It's not cheap but we loved it.

BEAUTIFUL VILLAS WITH AN AMAZING LOCATION

The hotel is ideal for families with kids as well as for couples. They have a fabulous breakfast spread, a beautiful beach in front with amazing sunsets everyday, very helpful staff (Avi at guest relations was specially helpful), and a great pool. One of the best parts of the hotel is the water sports they offer to the guests, many of which, including snorkeling are free. Golfers have an added benefit of not having to pay a substantial green fees for a round of golf at their partner hotel on the Isle au Cerf. However, we were quite taken aback that NO drinking water OR tea/coffee sachets are provided to the rooms! We felt that given the price and the quality maintained by the hotel, this small gesture of hospitality is a necessity, especially given that hotels all over the world follow it as a standard practice! Other than this inconvenience, we had an amazing stay.

Top notch service and food

Had an excellent stay at La Pirogue. Have stayed at a few of the high-end Mauritius hotels (Maritim, Intercontinental, Meridien) and this ranks right up there with the best of them. La Pirogue's real edge is in relation to its staff who’ve been drilled in customer service. Nothing is too much trouble. From word go the welcome is warm. Another plus point is the evening buffet. The food is first-rate, varied, and generally delicious. Drinks, as in similar hotels on the island, are massively overpriced. Better to go all-in if you're planning to relax about this (I went HB). I was there on business, so didn't get to use the pool, etc. But I did go to the beach, which ranks among the best on the island. Clean, powdery white sand, no coral pebbles to walk over on your way to the sea. I had time to borrow a snorkel, and spent a good couple of hours looking at life on and around the coral reef just off shore. The negative side is the room I had. The room was perfectly clean and functional, but in need of a bit of an update. It could do with a bit of a refurb to bring in up to date with other places on the island. Sugar Beach rooms (the partner hotel) are considerably better. Flic-en-Flac is one of the best places on the island, and tends to get the best of the weather too (I went in mid winter and had mostly sun, mid 20s celsius, and a little cloud -- lovely!). All in all, I'd go back to La Pirogue. I'd strongly recommend the place if you’re not to precious about room furnishings.

Beautiful old-style beach hotel, great with a baby

You can't beat this if you're travelling with a small baby. Beautiful thatched separate bungalows allow privacy for you and your neighbours. Though they are looking a bit old now in terms of the internal decor, they are spotless, comfortable and that includes cot beds with a pretty decent mattress for our 6 month old baby who slept very well during the holiday. The beachside setting is lovely and one of the things that stands out is that the grounds are spacious with beautiful gardens that you can stroll around with your pushchair quite easily (not easy to do outside the hotel as there is a general lack of pavements in mauritius). The adjacent Sugar Beach connects with it (younger crowd, more generic modern hotel) so you can walk through into it as well. The most outstanding attribute of this hotel though are its staff who couldn't do enough to help us. They love babies and our little one made plenty of friends around the place. Feeding was easy with facilities for sterilising bottles in the kids' club and preparing fresh pureed meals was no trouble for the chef. Food overall was good; the breakfasts in particular were amazing (we went for lunch rather than the dinner buffet option so I can;t comment on this). There's a lovely on-site nurse as well. Everything just made our trip with the little one so relaxing and enjoyable

Stunning resort, expensive restaurants

Stunning resort, amazing gym, endless activities and facilities on offer. Beautiful beach with manicured gardens, sprawling pool. The most incredible breakfast spread that I have ever seen. Great dive centre with friendly staff, reasonably priced dives and decent dive sites on offer. It's a bit of a shame that three divers are required before the boat will go out though as in the winter (low season) it can be a struggle to round up that many divers. Unless you are on the all inclusive rate, you should look elsewhere to eat lunch and dinner. The food isn't exceptional, you could cook most of it at home, but the prices are far too high. €12 for the type of salad that you might see in an in-flight meal. Same price for a simple burger. The signature fish restaurant (Paul & Virginie) had just two fishes dishes only one of them was available and the atmosphere (no music, extremely dim lighting) was odd, not romantic. Flic-en-flac is a bit short on decent restaurants but you can definitely find something to eat and at something like a third of the price. This is a beautiful resort though and being able to use the facilities of the sister Sugar Beach resort makes it the best place to stay in Flic-en-Flac. Just fill up at breakfast!

Aging, but packed with activities/services

LaPirogue was celebrating its 37th birthday while I was there; although a bit older than some other resorts, it more than makes up for any shortcomings from make-overs (every ten years or so) with nice facilities and activities. The resort is comprised of many thatch roofed duplexes, with peaked roofs suggesting sail shapes, which are arranged in coves. Lawns for bocce and croquet; pools that manage to be large and cozy at the same time; sailboats, paddle boats, snorkeling gear, and ping pong tables are available to all. Vendors offering sportfishing and scuba are right on property at the beach. To top it all off, the all-inclusive package lets customers also eat and drink at the sister resort on adjacent property. It's a short bus or taxi (a bit pricey everywhere on Mauritius) ride to the village of Flic-en-Flac, but I comfortably walked it.

Overall it was a good experience staying at La Pirogue. Would like to particularly mention the courteous restaurant staff and the Chefs who prepared Vegetarian menu for us. A great spot to chill out

Staff were superb - very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The grounds and setting of the hotel are also magnificent. Great beach, clear water and no feeling of being overcrowded. Food and drink options are varied and plentiful. We were on an all inclusive package which was great value with lots of choice. The hotel doesn't scrimp at all. Having use of the facility next door (Sugar Beach) is also a nice touch. It seemed to be slightly classier with a younger clientele than La Pirogue. Better live music and Tides is a great restaurant / bar. All in all La Pirogue is an excellent hotel and a great choice in Mauritius.

Sugar Beach next door looks great

Great for families with plenty activities, nice meal entertainment with live band. Around 25 years old so expect dated rooms. On half board expect to pay for non alchohic drinks with meal. At breakfast the food won't be covered so the birds are more than welcome at the buffet. Don't order the crab or crayfish soup a La Badine which has no taste what so ever. Do book a reservation at La Badine and expect to be told they are full and when you do dine at the buffet expect La Badine to be half empty. Tennis courts, spa and gym are all located at Sugar beach next door so why waste any time, check yourself in. Don't pay 100 rupees for water from the mini bar the shop down the road sells it for 20. The body wrap treatment at the Aura spa was amazing, so La Pirouge no thanks Sugar Beach why not. I will never go 4 stars again. Also 12 Appostles Camps Bay Cape town. Now thats what I call a hotel
