This hotel is beautiful with a stunning view, beautiful pool area, spacious rooms and excellent service. The restaurant was superb. A few notes: it is hard to walk to the beach. The hill is extremely steep and narrow with lots of cars. The shuttle runs a few times a day. There is no spa as listed on Expedia. The beach is crowded and there are lots of hawkers unless you walk to a quieter place some distance away. However, overall it was a wonderful stay and I would go back!
Allen was amazing, he really made our stay comfortable.
With over 50 years of traveling around the world Hotel Mariposa is right at the top. No wonder it's listed in the famous book 1,000 places to see before you die. I'm glad we did.
A fun vacation in Costa Rica
The La Mariposa Hotel was amazing. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious, and the view was fantastic. We were told we would only have a partial ocean view and were very pleased that we had a beautiful view. The cleaning staff did an excellent job and was very thorough.
Locaton was good
Room 006 had a bad sewer smell come and go from the bathroom
I really enjoyed the property. Be careful when you order anything at the hotel charged to your room. I left the required $200 room deposit. As i ordered drinks, which was usually just one Coke Zero, at the bar or restaurant a ALWAYS gave a large tip in cash, 5000 or 10000 colones on one COKE. I like to get good service and recognize the service staff. The actual Coke was charged to my room which i was told to put down my name and Room number. At the end of my stay I had 8 or so $6 tips added to my bill. The Front desk said i wrote my Room Number in the spot where the TIP goes and there was nothing they can do. I explained that i always tip in cash as a courtesy to the Staff to get their tips in cash. The front desk would not do anything. The amount of money is not the issue, it is the principle, what if i was in room 25 or room 50???? It would have taken the hotel to go to any of the wait staff and ask if I tipped in Cash. They would know. I tip very well, excessive and they would know me. Additionally, they wait staff excepted my cash tip and saw I wrote down my room number NOT a tip, but said nothing to me. I told the Front Desk, if i come back, i will not tip anyone anything.
The hotel staff, rooms, dinning area were absolutely amazing would definitely return.
Excellent!!
We had an amazing time at La Mariposa, everything was better than expected. The view is breathtaking. The hotel staff is very warm, welcoming and attentive. We highly recommend the hotel and would definitely visit again.
What an amazing place!!!! My husband and i absolutely loved everything about this property from the friendliness of the staff, amazing drinks and bartenders, the gorgeous pool and views, the lush flora and fauna, its within walking distance to so many restaurants, and the abundance of wildlife. We saw so many monkeys on site which was wonderful given the park was closed because of the bad weather. We stayed in the sunrise ocean view room and loved waking up to that amazing view. My only complaint is we didn’t stay long enough. We will definitely stay here again when we return to CR.
The hotel was a gem! My friends and I stayed there for 4 days and it was such a great accommodation. The staff were professional and courteous. The hotel restaurant had wonderful food. It was a great hotel near so many different attractions.
Great stuff and customer service
Manuel Antonio Traat.
Always an excellent choice. Location is great. Staff is top notch. Views fro. Our room were breathtaking and sunset from the patio was perfect. We had the Ahi Tuna and lobster pasta for dinner and they were good, not great. Firvthe price we expected more. Breakfasts were excellent. Great selection. And the bartender was a treat. Mixed a super drink and extremely personal.
The view at this hotels is absolutely stunning. It’s better in person than in pictures. The service was amazing and the staff was very nice. And there’s monkeys running around everywhere! I would definitely come back. The food was also very very good. And there’s many restaurants and bars and shops that are within walking distance.
The staff at La Mariposa were excellent. The grounds were (are) beautiful with breathtaking views. Especially of the monkeys and colorful birds. I highly recommend any room you can get with the ocean view and forest. I will be coming back again.
Beautiful sunsets and views All personally we had contact with were attentive friendly helpful excellent service Grounds and amenities excellent made for a beautiful home away from home
I like staying in nice places. Here is my one complaint before I tell you how amazing this place and trip was. I wish I had a table and chair in the room… it’s only downfall I could think of. Lol LaMariposa was even beyond what I hoped it would be. Went with one of my best friends and we saw more wildlife on their property than anywhere. Sloths, 2 kinds of monkeys, beautiful flora and fauna. The view is the most beautiful view I’ve ever seen. The staff…. Alan at the desk immediately found me a chiropractor as my herniated disc decided to act up. Louis and Oscar were wonderful, too. Kendall my swim up bartender made the best pina colada and Diego, Mike, Gianfranco and Greg serving our delicious breakfasts were wonderful! You will see bugs… maybe 1 or two in your room at a point in your visit( you are in the tropics). I live in New Orleans… doesn’t matter how clean or upscale a place is… you are going to see a big here and there. No big deal. Suck it up! It’s Costa Rica! The infinity swim up bar, the pools, the grounds, the room, the town you just walk down a small hill too( beware though… take a bus or a taxi to beach if you can’t handle hills). We walked it and were fine but it’s a windy steep hill Road going to beach. The people are lovely, the food delicious, shopping cute and fun. If you can splurge get one of the rooms with a hot tub on its balcony. I don’t know how anyone could find fault here. It was a dream vacation! Thank you!!!!!
Loved the spectacular views from hotel room.
Slice of heaven
Hôtel Mariposa was amazing. The staff was so friendly and attentive, the pools were stunning, the rooms were clean and open. The mixed fresh blended juice in the morning and delicious breakfasts were a bonus. I love bartender Kendall and Oscar at the front desk and server Mike. It was a fabulous stay and I can’t wait to get back.
Check in was very easy and Alan was very nice and accommodating. We were early for our check in, but they were able to hold our bags and allowed us to get some food and drinks while we waited.
Excellent staff and location. Views are phenomenal. Will definitely visit again
No microwave or iron was an issue and the food was pricey. I also payed to stay in the room for two days and because my 2 kids were not 8 and under I had to pay an extra $300. Which was excessive.
Lovely Stay
Loved our stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the restaurant in the hotel and nearby are great, the pool is very nice, and the view is spectacular.
DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. Horrible customer service! We had a family emergency and had to cancel/reschedule our vacation. We tried speaking to the hotel managers to explain our unfortunate ordeal where a member of our immediate family had become ill the day before we were expected to arrive and they showed absolutely no empathy and refused to allow us to rebook our vacation. The airline completely understood and gave us a refund, whereas La Mariposa Hotel refused even a credit to allow us to come in a few weeks or months. We tried speaking with ownership, who they claimed made this policy, but refused to put us in touch with them. Our kids are heartbroken. Why would anyone want to do business with such a cold and heartless establishment?!
I recently stayed at Hotel Mariosa, and it was a perfect experience from start to finish. The hotel itself is immaculate, with beautiful decor and comfortable accommodations. What truly made my stay exceptional was the outstanding service provided by Gregory at the Papillon restaurant. He went above and beyond to ensure every need was met, making me feel truly valued as a guest. His attention to detail and friendly demeanor made my dining experiences unforgettable. A special mention also goes to Dayana, who prepares the best omelets during breakfast. Her skill and dedication made each morning a delightful start to the day. I highly recommend Hotel Mariosa and especially commend Gregory at the Papillon restaurant and Dayana for making my stay so memorable.
Everything was great about this hotel, including what really seems to be the best view in the area. I did find the restaurant to be very overpriced for the quality of the food but I think you’re paying for the view. The pool was subpar for sure. The hot tub was the same same temperature as the pool. Overall the stay was really nice and the people were fantastic but I would definitely suggest them improving the pool for those days you might want to hang for a bit at the hotel.
Check out time was too early. In most hotels it is 12 A.m but here it was 11 A.m
Amazing amazing trip! Don’t pass on this resort
Absolutely amazing resort! I cannot say anything but will absolutely. Room was amazing, everting was so clean and fresh! Views are amazing
Great pool and restaurant. Spacious rooms, though some very outdated
Have a beautifull view of the sunset and the sunrise. Food is very good. Nice rooms really bigs.
Vacation
Amazing views and service. Very clean and great atmosphere
Stunning view, friendly staff, pity you have to fight for towels every day.
Nice and helpful people, with a lovely view and pool❤️! Great food!!!!!!!
Absolutely gorgeous setting on top of the hill overlooking Manuel Antonio park. Macaw flybys all day, toucan, and butterflies. 10 minutes to the park and good access to activities. Staff was very helpful and nice, even the grounds staff helped me to find birds as I am a photographer. Recommend one of the sunrise or sunset rooms. Thank you for a fantastic stay!
Amazing property. The grounds are fantastic. Amazing friendly staff, beautiful views, great rooms and restaurants
La Mariposa was a beautiful, clean hotel with a friendly staff. The view is absolutely stunning. We truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it. I did not want to leave!
I have stayed there many many times over the last 20 years always the best service and a great place to stay
We loved the hotel, the friendly staff, and amazing view
Great place
The view were breathtaking.
I have never felt more welcomed and more part of "the family" than I did at La Mariposa. Facilities were excellent, views were excellent, food was excellent, and the staff was superb. Allen was so very helpful and friendly, as they all were.
I’ve traveled the world and have never experienced a view like this hotel has. Takes your breath away.
La Mariposa is staffed with helpful locals, who helped book amazing activities in Manuel Antonio area. Property is well located, and walkable to many shops and restaurants. It also offered a shuttle to the national park and beaches. The property sits at a high point in the area, and offers amazing views of the park and coastline. As its name suggests, there are abundant butterflies, and also flocks of macaws and other bird life. They breakfast buffet was good fuel to start active days. The property itself is a bit past its prime, and could use a refresh. There were other oddities that we typically don’t experience at properties at this price, such as having to swap a “towel coupon” for a towel at the pool, and having to pay for a welcome drink with alcohol (otherwise it’s a fruit juice).
Pros: million dollar views, size of the room. Cons: Everything else. There were no amenities in the room except for a small table, not even a chair. I had to get the plastic chairs from the balcony. Very basic coffee with crusted creamer, no water. The bathroom was bare bones and sad looking. The property was ill maintained dirt in the common areas and cobwebs in the elevator. The breakfast was sub par, had better breakfast at airport hotel which was one third in price. Lastly, the service was indifferent at the best. Our worst experience at Costa Rica.
Beautiful property with a lot of amenities. Staff are amazing and so friendly. Our room was incredible (the ocean view). Close to a lot of shops, restaurants, market, beaches and the amazing national park. Would only stay here if coming back.
The location of this property is incredible but the rooms are dated. Bathrooms need to be updated. Dianny at the front desk was very helpful. But can’t say that about some of the other staff. Views from the corner suites were incredible.
Terrible customer service
Horrible customer service from the start
The hotel was full of bugs in the room. The service not too good. The only thing to admire is the scenic views you get in the restaurant. Otherwise, wouldn’t recommend to stay, just to dine in.
Easy to use and great price
Staff was friendly and helpful, view from room and restaurant was gorgeous and food was great.
Tidy hotel with an excellent pool area and spectacular view. Breakfasts were also good. Negative Issues included too many bugs got into the room at night. Noisy room air conditioning. Not close to the beach and with a very high climb back to the hotel. Roads outside the hotel were terrible with potholes everywhere.
Absolutely beautiful views from our room and all over the hotel. Great service and staff. Fun pool bar and excellent food. There was some construction going on nearby when we were there but it did not impact our stay or disturb us.
Special hotel in a stunning location.
Gorgeous location and views, friendly staff and delicious food. We never wanted to leave.
The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. Leo, in particular, went above and beyond.
We thought the infinity pool was beautiful and for the most part the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was good and tons of good restaurants and entertainment within walking distance.
Great views, but rooms needs updating.
The views from this hotel are breathtaking. The food is reasonably good too. The restaurent gets busy in the evening, so I would recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine here. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, however are in dire need of an update (see pictures) for their rates. Everything is slightly old or rusty. Oddly the lights in the room are bright bluish-white (day light) like a night market, compared to the usual warm-white found in hotels. There are basically no amenities in the room apart from black coffee (no milk), such as water bottles, robes or slippers. The rooms were cleaned every day, but service was not particularly warm or attentive compared to the rest of the our costa rica experience. The receptionist was however exceptionally nice to us.
A must visit
Everything was absolutely amazing!! Beautiful view, beautiful hotel, excellent food
The ocean view from the outdoor pool, restaurant, bar, as well as our room, was spectacular. The pool area was lovely with very comfortable lounge chairs. The service was exceptional as the staff went above and beyond our expectations to ensure we had a great experience. Breakfast was delicious, with many options to choose from. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Sunsets by the pool
Beautiful facility in a wonderful location. Great pool. Wonderful breakfast.
Stay a week and you won’t be disappointed. We only stayed for 2 nights and wish it was more. Free breakfast, friendly staff, clean rooms, tons of pools and spectacular views. Macaws, monkeys and toucans were seen on site. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Free shuttle to and from beach. Everything was very clean.
My wife thinks it would be interesting to have a flora and fauna tour of the grounds
Awesome views!
This hotel is nothing short of amazing. The views are fantastic. The rooms are very well kept. The staff is exceedingly friendly. The restaurant in the hotel is amazing. The pool is great with amazing views of the beaches below. They can pretty much set you up with any activity you want, from mangrove swamp tours, to hiking at night or through waterfalls, to surf lessons, tours of Manuel Antonio Park, etc. This was my second time to visit Costa Rica and by far the best experience. The hotel isn’t large but it acts like a 5-star hotel at 3-star prices. Food is a bit expensive at the restaurant, but it is pricey everywhere in this area and not especially so here. I really have no complaints up to what is going to be our last day here. The kids wish they could stay another week and frankly so do I. We saw macaws from the balcony, a sloth climbing in the lobby, geckos on the windows, and one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen from a hotel in my life (and I have traveled the world A LOT). I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
The room didn’t look as expected from the pictures, the main pool was crowded and lack of staff around keeping the area clean and organized
la mariposa is the perfect spot to base explorations on quepos great pool bar excellent restaurant easy walking to evening activities away from the bustle of the beach but easy to get to
This property was amazing! The staff were very friendly and the views were incredible! The hotel restaurant was very good as well.
This is a wonderful hotel with great views of the pacific. Also wonderful pools and very attentive staff.I can highly recommend a stay there.
Beautiful property great amenities staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location in the Manuel Antonio national park! Even saw a sloth on the property! View from the room and pool was amazing definitely recommend an ocean view room! Only downside was the beds were not very comfortable.
Possibility of bedbugs
When we arrived, our room was fairly disorganized, and the sheets indicated bloodstain. When I lifted up the sheet, I saw something that looked like a bedbug. Staff members were in the room with me and saw the same thing. However, they denied the possibility of bedbugs. When I complained, they said I could leave the hotel and go find another room, but that was rather impossible. There was no compensation for the discomfort and stress that we went through. The mattress was also quite firm. I did receive bites that had the possibility of being bedbugs. I have pictures of these bites. However, I was walking in the woods and so I cannot conclude this. The view is magnificent, the pool, terrific, but I was surprised at the lack of courtesy and compensation, for the discomfort that we went through. When we left the staff member said that the room at that point would be exterminated. This certainly increases the verification of the concern.
Great Pool area!
Had no clue that in order to reach the front desk to check in was up a pretty steep incline. Also after reaching the front we had to go up many steps. No bell man, no golf cart and parking up near the top was limited to about 6 cars with parking below the incline of the hill. It was not easy hauling your suitcases up the incline. Should be disclosed because many people complained. Some of the duplex units had many stairs to go up or down. There is an elevator for the main tower but still gotta climb the hill to get there. Waiters were not that friendly as they were in La Fortuna.
Amazing view of Manuel Antonio and the Pacific Ocean from the lobby, pool, and room. Saw lots of wildlife around the property. Beach shuttle 4x/day was convenient.
Beautiful place. The pool is amazing, the staff is friendly. (Shout outs to Franko) Unbelievable experience. Thank you for creating such a beautiful atmosphere. Saw toucans and macaws from the pool.
The staff and service was outstanding! They upgraded us and the room had an exceptional view!
The views from this hotel are unmatched! A gorgeous property, and the staff is incredible. Everyone remembered your name almost immediately. The follow up from the staff on booking tours was amazing! We were very very happy with our stay and cannot wait to go back! I will warn, there are a lot of stairs on the property depending on where your room is and the property itself is up on a hill. This was fine for us because the views are worth it. We saw macaws, iguanas, and white faced monkeys all on the property. Not to mention, the most beautiful sunsets. The hotel is a short walk from a number of restaurants and they have a shuttle to and from the beach. We had a rental car and driving/parking was very easy.
The view from this property is amazing! The service was phenomenal. The property was clean and comfortable. The only downsides were the internet was spotty and tv was not fantastic. I would book this property again. We are planning to go back soon.
Hotel with a million dollar view. Exceptional staff that are super friendly and helpful. We loved our stay and hope to return. Thank you so very much.
Very beautiful hotel with the best views in Manuel Antonio. Book the plus rooms whether it be sunset or sunrise, generously sized and modern style. Food was delicious. Service from both Christopher’s (2 staff named Christopher at restaurant), Fabian (restaurant), Gregory (restaurant), Leo (front desk) and many more made our stay very comfortable and welcoming. The staff is friendly and engaging, they are always helpful and funny. Thank you for a wonderful time! We have stayed at Parador as well, and both are beautiful however this was a more personal experience and also quieter for people who want to rest and relax. Also saw many macaws, toucans and monkeys daily! Honestly all the staff were wonderful all the time. Pura Vida
Great Hotel
Amazing hotel, we stayed 3 days with friends. Beautiful views from the top of the mountain overlooking the Pacific. Restaurant had good food and service was great throughout the property. My only complaint would be that there are only small TVs in the rooms and they don't aren't smart TVs with Netflix etc., so unless you want to watch Spanish cable TV, you are out of luck.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at La Mariposa. The staff were friendly, helpful with attention to detail. Our room was cleaned daily, the front desk staff readily booked our excursions, helped with transportation, gave us good advice on restaurants and beaches. La Papillon, their restaurant served an excellent breakfast daily. Their dinner with the best view is top notch. The infinity pool, bar and grounds are wonderful. The rooms are large with beautiful views. Thank you La Mariposa for one of our best vacation stays.
It was absolutely beautiful and we had a great time. I would return again.
Espectacular
Not worth it
This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at during our trip, and was the least impressive. Other than the view, not sure why a basic room, that’s dirty with dead bugs would cost $550/night. Breakfast was marginal at best.
Amazing View but low standards of Service .
The hotel lobby and rooms have an amazing view . However the service at this hotel is like 1 star hotel. The staff is not considerate. It's like they are doing favor to guests by working there. They don't not let you check in even 5 minutes before 3 pm . At all levels they are just proving the basic service and nothing special .
Very good view of the ocean, nice staff, has shuttle service to beach.
Everything was excellent
We had a great stay at La Mariposa. I was so comfortable arriving alone on my first day. The view is unmatched and the staff is so accommodating and friendly. They felt like family and friends. The shower was hot and good pressure. I would have liked more towels offered in the rooms, but it seems they are working to regulate lost items. Overall, it was an amazing experience and I look forward to trying to return again!
Would go back
It was an amazing experience. The view from the restaurant, the pool and from our room were magnificient, as out of this world! Staff was friendly and always ready to help.
Room and bathroom very clean (trust me I’m picky and a clean freak). My sunrise room had a breathtaking view of the ocean and sunrise over the jungle on the large balcony. The breakfast is included and was beyond delicious. They made fresh omelette and any style eggs of your choice, plus a variety of other items. The restaurant on site is available for other meals and was delicious. The infinity pool was breathtaking at sunset. There is also a swim up bar in another pool. The waiters do come to other pools and refill your drinks. The drinks were amazing and not water down. The staff was pleasant and eager to make sure you had an amazing time. I would definitely return 10/10 for cleanliness, location walking distance to town bars and restaurants. Thanks for making my stay amazing!
VERY friendly, helpful and approachable staff! Great food and beverages on property but a close walk to other excellent eateries as well plus a small supermarket, pharmacy and other services. A very nice breakfast to start the day, excellent omelets! The free shuttle down to the beach and park area and back to the property was very convenient and prompt. Room just as described on the site, excellent Pacific sunset view from our patio. Only kinda wierd thing is the "swim up bar" is actually not attached to the main pool but a very small, isolated pool connected to the upstairs bar serving the restaurant. We had an excellent time at this property and would return and recommend to anyone visiting the Manuel Antonio/Quepos ($10.00 taxi ride to the marina for fishing) area. Pura Vida!
Lovely view from the room and pool area! Also great location for walking to restaurants outside the busy zone.
Beautiful property. Saw lots of exotic animals just walking around the property.
A truely beautiful place with the best view in Manuel Antonio and amazing friendly staff. We can't wait to go back!
La Mariposa felt like home away from home! The property was serene and beautiful with stunning jungle and ocean views! Every morning we were greeted by a kind and courteous staff who attended to our family during the delicious continental breakfast. The location was safe, family-friendly, and close to some amazing restaurants. We will never forget our stay at La Mariposa, and hope to be back soon!
Favorite Hotel in Costa Rica
We spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica traveling around the country and finished our trip by staying 5 days here. This was by far my wife and I’s favorite hotel during the whole trip. All the staff was extremely kind throughout the whole stay. Kendall, Aldo, Alfred, Luis, and all the others at the hotel made our stay so special. They take the time to actually know their guests name, greet you with a smile, and attend to whatever request you have. The views at this hotel were gorgeous. This property is located in a prime location and we were able to complete all our local excursions with most having pick up. Also, the rooms were very clean and modern. We had wildlife right outside our balconies being greeted by macaws, squirrel monkeys, and others. We ate dinner here multiple nights and the food was very good and fresh. It was very convenient for us on nights that we didn’t want to go out and find food. Overall, this hotel was so great and if we come back to Costa Rica, we will definitely be staying here again.
Great couples treat
All the rooms have ocean front view. Beautiful grounds with numerous pools. Friendly, helpful staff.
Beautiful property and views as usual substandard maintenance ( plumbing issues no water, no internet) and construction noise.
The area around the property was hard to walk if you have a disability, which my wife does , the hotel first gave us a room across the parking lot from main hotel but my wife struggled to make it to breakfast at the restaurant so they gave us a free upgrade at main hotel which meant she just used elevator and then taxi to everywhere else. Also I was surprised to see no accommodation at the Manuel antonio park for disabled people , they need to get some hikers wheelchairs for rent , I would gladly have paid extra with a guide.
Well positioned for gorgeous sunrise and sunset views
From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. They were incredibly helpful even before we arrived with arranging a car and then helping us book tours when we arrived. The room was lovely and the views were stunning. We can't wait to return.
It was amazing! Breathtaking views, wonderful staff and amazing pool.
The staff there very friendly
La Mariposa is an excellent property
