Very disappointing. Check in was closed from noon to 2PM (seriously ?) when we arrived. Rooms are very basic. No pool. No air con and we were there on a very hot day. Too bad. The building is gorgeous but needs a serious overhaul,
Very nice rustic building, a little dated but as you would expect, very good value for money and clean. A little out of town so would be quite a decent walk but there is a bus you can catch nearby
Lots of free parking. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean.
Good value quality. Helpful personnel. Clean and handy.
The door lock in room 28 did not work properly. We spent 15 minutes in complete darkness trying to unlock and lock the door. We called a receptionist. She was really upset and unfriendly.
Comfortable Repurposed Heritage Hotel.
Three retired adults stayed in Aix En Provence on the last 2 nights of a 2 week vacation in France before flying back to Canada from Marseille Provence airport. The hotel location was chosen for this reason and is more accessible by car than by walking. Parking is available in a well landscaped yard. The hotel is a repurposed infirmary that is several hundred years old. Our unit opened at grade level and had an outdoor patio with table and chairs. The bathroom had a combination tub & shower. The kitchenette had a microwave, bar fridge, hot plate, toaster, sink, dishes and utensils. The queen size bed on the main floor was comfortable. The double bed on the mezzanine level was also comfortable.
Good value for money
Great service, helpful staff, beautiful building
Outdated, bathroom was smelling very bad, staff was not helpful, we were told we had to write before our arrival in order to get a baby crib but there was no indications of any sort when we made the booking. Overall, very disapointing.
Perfect
This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel. Love it being a heritage building it also has plenty of parking and in walkable distance from the centre of Aix.
Nice quite place for a family stay
Quiet place with very well done, nice and clean rooms. Basic amenities but enough for a family.
Lovely quiet studio on the edge of Aix en Provence
This is a great location if you want to be close to Aix and not deal with the congestion and noise of being right in town. It is a short drive into town and also very well located to motorways if you plan to do some driving in the region. There is plenty of parking and easy access. I stayed in a ground floor studio that had a lovely outdoor table in a garden setting that was perfect for breakfast or an afternoon drink before heading into town for dinner. I recommend it.
Nice place to stay
Even though we booked for a room of four, they have reserved a room for two! But thanks to the hotel director it was solved quickly with an addition of a room. The reception working hours are very limited (for late night or for noon), not very customer focused. But overall the staff was very supportive.
Clean and basic
Hotel was basic but fine, rooms clean and good size. Located of town but there is a bus that comes right outside the hotel which is very convenient.
Beautiful relaxing best budget hotel
We arrived too late for reception due to missed train. Reception said they wd email us an entry code but did not. Eventually we got the code and from then on the hotel and staff were first rate. Especially the handsome and kind young receptionist, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was the best part of our stay. We loved the kittens in the grounds too. We will stay there again.
La Bastide du Roy Rene - A great little hotel
This hotel is extremely pleasant. We just love the setting and the surroundings. We would definitely go back there. We highly recommend it.
Really really unfriendly staff. Rooms are very old and would deserve a real upgrade.
We enjoyed our stay , relaxing an comfortable for traveling around south and parking the rental car right in the beautiful garden. The room was hot over night.
Dated but clean
Fine for overnight business stay, dated hotel but clean
Wifi provided was very very slow, breakfast with a little choice
Great hotel and location
Hotel was great to stay in. Close to old town, grocery stores and secure parking. Would stay their again.
Quiet sanctuary with beautifully manicured gardens
Staff very welcoming and attentive. All of the staff went out of their way to make my stay at the Bastide very enjoyable. The copious grounds are beautifully managed and cared for. Parking is very easy indeed within the grounds and access is gained after a certain point in the evening through large electrically operated gates thus ensuring the safety of the clientele and belongings. The gates can be opened by entering a code. Everything is very well thought out and organised. I'm delighted that I stayed at this hotel and I would recommend it very highly. Howard S.
Very French
A bit out of the way, to be fair I knew that from other reviews overall happy and price was good.
Nice and tidy
Ideal if you want to be in a quite environment, only 5 minutes to Aix
Pleasant stay
I was in this hotel for one night and I really enjoy my staying when I found it. There are really no way to find it at once, since it's not on the street, there are no big signs, no address in GPS, so be patient and calm it will worth it. Hotel is interesting, yard is fantastic, staff very cosy, good english speaking (rarity in France). Parking and yard is fantastic, no restaurants nearby, but there is Ibis next door with descent food.
avoid avoid avoid
what a pit this was don't expect the room in the picture even tho we payed extra for an upgrade thinking we would get a room with lounge area as per the picture our room was tatty old stained and had bed bugs when we approached the manager she said it was mosquitos but as we had taken precautions against mossys and only our legs were bitten whilst being cover by sheets it is defo bed bugs but there not interested once they have you money they don't care do not stay here ever how the heck they got a 3.8 is beyond me it should be removed burnt down and rebuilt the build ing looks the dogs when you see it but that just hides what beneath old and tatty and the fridge had been cleaned with disinfectant which made every thing stink that was put in it avoid it sleep on the street would have been better never ever again and if the management read this then you should take complaints and deal with them not just argue with your customers deal with your issues and sort your horrible hotel out
lovely hotel convenient for exploring Provence.
Lovely hotel, helpful staff. Room comfortable and facilities excellent.
very bad location, I do not recommend this hotel
This hotel use the renown name of Roi René, but in fact is located outside of AIX, on the freeway far away from the center .The service is extremely bad almost impolite , the beds, carpets are not even qualify for a one star hotel. The room smell horrific.Do not reserve this hotel
great relaxing stay
Nice place to stay - very relaxing. Good place to base yourself for looking around the area.
Need a car
We thought it had a nice atmosphere, but could definitely have used air conditioning being as it was in the south of France. Up one flight of stairs with no elevator and reception closes at 7pm .window didn't close properly so had to take valuables each time we left hotel.
History Hotel = Interesting Stay
My family stayed here for three nights in early July 2014. The hotel (which doesn't look like a typical hotel) is a short drive to Aix en Provence city center. We liked having the peace and quiet to return to in the evening after our day of touring this fantastic area. The staff at the hotel were very informative, friendly and accommodating. We stayed in a small apartment that had a semi-private garden area with patio furniture. The architecture and history of the hotel is very interesting and appears to include royalty, monks and service as a hospital during the dark days of the plague. If you stay here, ask for the fact sheet detailing it. The grounds are lovely and accented by fountains. We liked that the property (and our car) was secured behind a locked gate. Skip the limited and pricy for family of 4 hotel breakfast and just hit the grocery store instead.
Good overnight base
This hotel provides comfortable accommodation, although be prepared for small rooms. As we were only there for an overnight stay that was not a problem. It was good to have free parking and easy access to the town centre.
Great place to stay with history and with class.
We found this hotel on the internet last minute and were so glad that we did. The place is classy and well run and oozes history. If not for the funky smell in the room, we would also have given that a 5 rating. The booking said check-in time was until 6pm, but that late check-in was guaranteed. This seemed a bit confusing. We didn't arrive until 7pm, but the staffer stayed until we arrived to check us in anyway. He also tried to call my cell number which doesn't work in Europe. The staff members in the evening and in the morning were pleasant and helpful and, like most hotels in Europe, spoke a number of languages other than French. You'll like them! Parking was handy with a big lot that had some shade trees and a serious security gate. Lastly, the breakfast was terrific. Good coffee, bread, fruit, etc.
Nice place to stay, but difficult to find
We had a difficult time finding the hotel with the GPS. However the grounds are beautiful, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. You can take bus number eight into the center of the city and back which is very convenient. It is a great place to relax and have peace and quiet.
Easy to get to city centre
The people at the front desk were very informative about the hotel services and on visiting Aix-en-Provence. Getting to the centre is very easy from the hotel. The room was a good size when considering how small some rooms can be in Europe. They do not clean room every day but they do make beds and empty garbage. The only negative: bathrooms are a bit dated and could be redone. All in all, this hotel was very enjoyable.
Relaxing environment within reach of city centre
Location good to reach by public transport, or by 20 minute walk into town. Nice old building and patio-style garden.
Very pleasant and relaxing environment
Hotel staff were very helpful and equally left you to get on without being in your face. The hotel is very pleasant and relaxing. It was very quiet whilst we were there. No doubt this effected the general relaxed atmosphere of the place. We had tickets delivered to the Hotel for the RBS 6 nations England game in Paris. We notifed the hotel staff that these tickets would be coming. They were extremely helpful and ensured they arrived all okay.
Serene surroundings
Nice stay at the Bastide du Boy Rene....It's a very pleasant setting....with ivy growing around the building and a fountain in the courtyard. It's a quick drive into town, but not really an easy walk, so make sure to have a car if you stay here. Overall, it was a nice stay for our one night in Aix-en-Provence.
Convenient base to tour Provence.
We enjoyed our stay very much. We were not aware that this was an apart-hotel that didn't include daily cleanup.
Next to highway.
Under the impression that there was a pool. Not easy access to town.
Nice holiday house.
Very French style .surrounding is very nice & romantic. Quiet. The ground floor, every room has their own frond garden & table & chairs. Really like a holiday house. Fully equipped. Secure, convenient for parking.
Nearly very good, but a few issues!
Check in was fine and the room was as we expected. The buildings and garden made for a pleasant site with a bit of character. Equipment and furnishings were clean and adequate. We would have liked a kettle! Location was quiet and out of the way; the bus into the town centre (from the end of the driveway) was a cheap and convenient way to visit Aix en Provence. Minor issues about garden furniture and chaotic check out slightly spoilt our overall good impression of this hotel.
La Bastide du Roi Rene
No air conditioning and a 38 to 45 Euro taxi fare from the railway station. The bus was close by and we used it to visit the city center. The grounds were lovely with places to sit out to eat or play cards.
Excellent hotel
Perfect, close to down town for meals but out of town enough to feel as if it was in the country
Beautiful place
Very beautiful place, and nice check in gentlemen. Next time We will come back~
Basic
Parfait
Parfait
Meget god service- Flot hotel.
Great hotel
Maria from front desk is amazing
Accueil professionnel. A recommander
Fantastic experiance
This hotel is one of my best hotel in France. It is fully enough for feeling their own atmosphere of Aix-en provance. I’d like to visit again If I have a possibility to visit in Aix en provance. I highly recomand for family trip. C’etait parfait.
Bien
Accueil impeccable. Environs un peu bruyant (autoroute). Confort correct.
Ok. Consiglio installare aria condizionata
Mooi pand, matige locatie
Proche centre ville. On a aimé .

😔
Not so cute... photos are better than the actual place. 3* is a bit over rated
