The location of the property was convenient and had pretty landscape. However, the facility lacked drawer space for your belongings, no phone or television; plus, there was no daily laundry service for bedding or towels. You basically had to request services. In addition, there was no air conditioning and parking was extremely limited.
Wow… just an amazing place… you can see all the colorful fish from my balcony. Can’t wait to return.
This place is perfect. It's small, quiet, right up to the ocean, has a salt water pool, and the room is bright and welcoming. Sleeping with the sliding door open to the sounds of crashing waves on the rocks is sheer heaven. It's close enough to downtown Kona that you could walk to the restaurants and shopping. Lovely staff, too.
The ocean views and salt water pool were outstanding. The hotel manager also made it his business to make sure I felt welcome. I’d come back again.
Great room and staff
The best rooms with the best views that you'll find for the price. An excellent family owned place that was very personable and relaxed. Being right on the ocean and just a few minute drive from the popular beaches, snorkel spots and downtown Kona shopping and food. It's not a typical hotel type stay, meaning there was no AC, TV, free breakfast type of amenities, but like many have said, they are not needed. Being 20 feet away from the ocean, it's plenty cool to sleep at night listening to the waves. It's warm in the rooms in the middle of the day, but 2 fans are provided to take the edge off. Being able to make some coffee and step out onto our personal patio and watch the tides in the morning and the sunset every night was a highlight of our stay. The parking lot is in fact tight to get in and out of, but after a few times, you get used to it, and after being in Kona for a week and seeing the parking situations everywhere, just having enough free parking at all is a blessing. You will hear some road noise behind you, random people with loud cars and playing obnoxious music, but without AC units, and other guests TV's, it is a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Jim and the ladies up front were great hosts. Always around to provide anything we needed. The beds and pillows were also some of the most comfortable we've had at any hotel. The only thing that really needed an upgrade was the shower water pressure, so getting off the sunscreen before bed took some scrubbing.
Excellant assistance from staff. On the ocean with crashing waves. Glass door insulation very good at keeping wave noise out if sleeping. No air conditioning and toilet was small.
Nice location on the ocean
One of the best place in my life to stay and enjoy nature. Never forget the experience at Kona Tiki, and I'll be there again for sure.
Wonderful location and brilliant staff, Jim was so helpful and friendly, made us feel really comfortable.
Rooms close to sea wall. Sounds of the waves are wonderful. Sunsets terrific. Loved their pool.
The staff was amazing!!!! So thankful for a wonderful experience!!
What a gem of a location! Listening to waves crash over the rocks at night was truly a memorable experience. I would have rated 5 stars but the rooms at this hotel do not have air conditioning, and there is no TVs in the rooms. There are two small windows on the entry door side of the room, but they are not large enough to allow for a decent cross breeze, so the rooms stay very warm at night, even with the ocean side glass doors all the way open. The hotel does provide a small fan, but this was not enough to keep us cool at night.
Location and ocean access
Greeting from Jimmy and whole experience was awesome
Truly amazing place , we did not have a TV but realized that we did not come to Kona to watch TV . Staff was always there to help and support us with information about the island, places to eat and activities available. We will definitely stay at the Tiki Hotel again when we return.
The water view from the room and the lanai was fantastic.
great ocean views
Loved it !
Perfect Boutique Beach Hotel
Such a cozy boutique hotel. Everything was set up and ready to go by the time we landed-so we were able to go straight to the room. The ocean view lanai was my favorite part. No AC but with the ocean breeze and fans we didn’t need. Small hotel pool with patio lounge chairs perfect for relaxing. They provided beach towels. The kitchen has dinnerware, microwave, toaster and larger fridge. The staff were very sweet and helpful. Perfect beach hotel for solo or couples.
Nice place to stay for the view.
The people who work there are amazing! They were very helpful. The room was nice as well. No Air Conditioning and parking was really bad but both issues were related to us at some point in the check in process so I can’t say it was a surprise. Overall I really enjoyed it there. Loved the closeness to the ocean and hearing the waves crashing on the rocks.
Lovely hideaway in Kona
After the bustling Waikiki, we found this lovely little hideaway in Kona. Everything was great from start to finish with a warm welcome from Karen, a nice room and your own ‚sea-spa‘ in the pool when the waves crushed over. We will comeback for your on our next Big Island visit.
My stay was excellent. This hotel is exactly what I was looking for with a stay in Hawaii. Peaceful, quiet, and fairly convenient. This place isn't gonna be for everyone, if you are looking for thrills and to be treated like royalty or have a family this probably won't be the place for you. But for me this place was perfect because I don't need all that. The issues with this place are minor and don't warrant super negative criticism, but parking can be an issue, it's a very small parking lot. Luckily for me it wasn't a problem. For me my only suggestion is I do wish they would get air conditioning. I was aware of it coming in and they advertise as part of their charm. I didn't think much of it either since they are right on the ocean. But the weather in Kona can get a bit on the warmer side with humidity especially in the summer. So yes the fans help and there is ocean breeze, but it's not a cool breeze like you get on the mainland so I feel like they should have AC. Other than that this place is great and I will most likely stay here again because I loved everything else about it.
Great view of ocean. Very nice salt water pool!
Amazing location, right on the ocean.
We had the best time staying at Kona Tiki Hotel! We loved hearing the waves crash in at night and the slow-down island vibe of the hotel. Staff was super friendly, room was clean and had everything we needed, took advantage of the beach equipment and book shelf and enjoyed our time on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Awesome place to stay to truly relax on vacation!
On the bottom floor people walk by your veranda within 6 feet at night you need to secure and close all windows and blinds or they can walk right in. No circulation at night except a stand up fan and all windows and doors sealed for safety Ice machine only. No water soda or snack machines told to drink tap water no continental breakfast as advertised. Clean room but only if you plan to sleep there offers nothing if you want to relax by the pool for the day No local hints to get around or make your stay more convenient just rules and travel book for the island
Hidden gem! A quick walk (less than a mile) into Kona to experience fun restaurants and shops. The salt water pool was clean and refreshing and gave a view of incredible sunsets. No AC but the ocean breeze provided plenty of cool air. Small kitchenette was very useful so we didn’t have to dine out for expensive breakfasts. Would highly recommended!
This is a wonderful spot. Every room has a lanai right on the water - can't beat being able to watch the waves with your morning coffee! Well-designed rooms, thoughtful and considerate management, lovely little pool. Only downside is crowded parking, but with Hawaii's narrow roads, you're better off with a small car in any case. Highly recommended!
Beautiful oceanfront property!
This place is a little gem. The rooms were updated and decorated perfectly Hawaiian. We stayed on the third floor and our balcony was right on the ocean. Spelt with the doors opened at night to the sound of the ocean. There is no elevator but it didn’t bother us. Great place.
The room view is immaculate. The product is bare minimum, there is no TV. There is no amenities. No AC.
Great place to chill out.
Well maintained property with outstanding oceanfront views
Beautiful little spot right on the ocean, crashing waves in the back ground was soothing! Awesome little pool!
Romantic Getaway
We could see dolphins and whales from our room! We recommend staying on the ground floor so you can head out to the sea wall easily to view urchins, yellow tangs, crabs, and even an eel or two. Perfect for couples. Everything is walkable, although it might be a mile or so each way depending on where you are going. We had the pool to ourselves most days.
Easy check in/check out. Cozy little place, very nice ocean view…We stayed for 3nights@103, they provide parking but very limited, swimming pool with sunset view is relaxing. Microwave/coffee maker/mini fridge/ plates/bowls/cups/knives/spoon&forks/descent bed/towels(and beach towels too) no A/C (you don’t need it, electric fan on standby) just open the glass sliding door & feel the island vibe!I will definitely come back here again. Thank you Kona Tiki!!!
Amazing views from all areas of this property, if your looking for an air conditioned stay (this not for you) no air con. Please mindful there is no lift provided for higher floor levels and the carpark area is very restrictive. A good walk to nice restaurants if you are fit, staff very polite.
Amazing place! A find…
Great location and value for what you pay for. The only issue would be parking, but parking across the street was a non-issue. Overall recommend staying here in the Kona region.
I loved the Kona Tiki Hotel. I was travelling alone and looking for a quiet and comfortable place. The Kona Tiki was perfect! My room was clean and bright and had its own little lanai overlooking the ocean. There is a small pool here which not many other guests seemed to be using so I took full advantage of that after my day’s excursions and came back to the hotel where I enjoyed an afternoon swim and suntan and then watched the sunset, which was spectacular every night. I enjoyed the fact that the rooms don’t have TV’s or air conditioning (I hate AC), and the bathroom only had a shower stall, no bathtub, but I think that also makes it non-children friendly which only contributed to the peace and quiet of this place - it’s basically an adult-only hotel without saying that! (Not that I dislike kids but I was travelling mine so it was nice to have that break.) I loved the Kona Tiki Hotel and I want to go back! I loved the Big Island and am already thinking of how I could move there! :)
Amazing stay and experience
The location of the property is amazing. The owners went above and beyond helping my extend my stay (because I loved it so much) without any hassles. I was visiting a friend who lives on the island and and there were no issues with her coming to pick me up/ drop me off, or come and hang out by the pool. Owners were very kind and professional and extremely responsive to any issues I had (of no fault of their own). The pool area is amazing. being right on the water and always seemed like you had the whole place to yourself. Can't wait to come stay again
Loved staying here! Right on the water which was lovely. No AC like most places here on the Big Island, but you can leave the balcony door open at night for a nice breeze and to hear the water crashing against the rocks. We would definitely stay here again!
Black mold room
We were assigned room 105. The space setup is more for one person. There's no closet or dresser, the kitchenette has a fridge and microwave (no induction cool top as.advertised), and we found black mold in the cabinet next to the mini fridge. The bathroom has a pedestal sink no countertop space for toiletries. The pool is not a saline pool but filtered seawater with a lot of chlorine. If we knew what to expect I think I would give it a better rating. But the black mold under the counter is definitely a health hazard.
We enjoyed our stay at the Tiki hotel. The hotel felt so quiet despite being on a busy road. The sound of the waves blocked out traffic noise. The pool was gorgeous, i could have spent the whole day there. The bed in our room was fairy worn out, but overall i wpuld stay here again and would recommend it.
Perfect Hawaiian Hotel Experience
First of all, all rooms in the hotel are within a few yards of the Pacific Ocean. No need for fans or white noise generators; you fall asleep to the sound of actual waves crashing against the seawall right in front of the hotel. There is no phone or TV, but good wifi. The room is simple, and unpretentious. It looks like a classic 1950s hotel, but with the kind of upgrades that make the most sense (new floor, bathroom door, and shower enclosure). The bed is comfortable and the room decor is dominated by sliding glass doors the full width of the room. You can watch the waves from the bed and just beyond the seawall is a school of bright yellow Tangs. It's as if Hawaii is a beautiful picture of a tropical paradise and the Kona Tiki Hotel is a simple, elegant frame around it. Highly recommended.
Great view and nice updated accommodations. A really good find at the last minute.
Disappointed that there was no housekeeping services, after 5 days there tends to be buildup of mess but ne cleaning of the room.
Kona Gold
Excellent mini-hotel right on the water. Great views of coastline and the ocean from the balcony. Ate most meals in the room with help of kitchenette. Expensive but worth it. Saw dolphins jumping and swimming from balcony. Also many birds in the palm trees and fish are visible in the water below. Great colors in the sky at sunrise and sunset (see photo).
It's a cute little place, and I liked the view and the Hawaiian decorated rooms. I thought it was good for the type of place it was
