Catarina escape
After spending time trying to find a reasonably priced hotel we found this little gem. Some reviews were negative some positive. We were stopping over for a couple of days so just needed what it said on the tin!! The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the room basic, but very clean and air conditioned. Free soft drinks and water were added each morning, fresh towels and room cleaned even on a 2 night stay. Nice relaxing area and court yard for breakfast, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee juice, bacon scrabbled eggs, everything you need to start the day. Not quite a 4 star but not necessarily a 3 star, no coffee/tea making facilities in bedroom but everything else, ensuite, safe, WiFi, TV. Area of hotel is a shame, but after walking the street I think all of Catarina is the same. I wouldn't blame the hotel but the local government, it could be so much more but little investment in clean streets and generally keeping it looking nice compared with other Itian regions we travelled through. On the whole if you need a proper hotel offering good service, somewhere safe, friendly staff you could do a lot worse than Katana If I need a stop over again in this area I would use again, a good central place to leave and explore.
Nice hotel, great breakfast!
Nice hotel, the area is a bit challenging on approach from the train station (on foot). The breakfast buffet is fantastic (avoid the filter coffee) and there is a full range of options. The AC did not feel effective overnight, although it was noticeably cooler on entering the room.
We had a great stay at this hotel
The Katane Palace Hotel is a very comfortable and affordable hotel. The staff is excellent and very helpful (special thanks to Santo who is great). The rooms are huge and check all the boxes for providing great accommodations. You cannot go wrong by booking at The Katane Palace Hotel!
- I wanted to shift my booking of the hotel for two days and they did not allow it, which is fine maybe all rooms were booked. But I was a little dissapointed when they would not even do a partial refund for 2/7 days we were staying in the hotel. - Bathroom is very large but with an annoying shower
Staff not available after 7pm, when they finally came they couldn’t fix the safe. The bed was very hard and I couldn’t sleep at all. The room was very stuffy. The area felt unsafe.
Quiet. Staff helpful parking car. Food not good. Very salty risotto. Dining room staff casual.
Property was spectacular. Breakfast was adequate. Drunk Bros bar across the road is a must. Area just very run down and dirty. Real shame. Be great if there were a pool but the hotel was beautiful !
Home from home
The hotel was tastefully decorated. The seating area downstairs was co-ordinated and the chairs were comfortable. It gave a cosy feeling. It was nice to sit out in the square to have breakfast. The bedroom was spacious. The hotel was in a quiet area but perhaps the air conditioning was a little noisy. We did not turn it off as it was hot. A special word of thanks should go to the staff. They were all very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Very nice Hotel and breakfast was great. However, the shower is setup in a way that it splashed everywhere while showering, other than that it's a good hotel and very clean. 10-15 minutes walk to the busy main street where all restaurant and attractions are.
We checked in late in the evening and the night manager could not have been more helpful. Organising our car parking and helping with our bags. Excellent customer service!
perfect location
good location and quiet
Old fashioned but comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Staff welcoming and very helpful. They arranged transfers and were happy to give lots of information on local area and things to see. We arrived early and our room was ready. Room very spacious and spotless. Hotel old worldly. Lovely terrace which was a welcome oasis from busy streets. The bar and Restaurant were good with again friendly and helpful staff. We used the restaurant on 2 evenings and we had plenty of choice at breakfast. Would stay there again if in Catania
Fast and good support , when I need
Very comfortable hotel with very helpful staff. Good restaurant.
Clean and staff very helpful
Average place
Average hotel to stay not far from centre. Basic, not very clean, payed parking on the site, basic breakfast. No kettle in a room.
Good hotel but needs modernising
Average hotel in reasonable area not far from the station and the main attractions. Friendly staff and good breakfast (and great cocktails!) but the hotel needs modernising - especially the bathrooms/showers.
Would recommend
The room was good, great location. Friendly reception. The breakfast was quite average but overall a good stay.
In walking distance to the centre of Catania. The double room was a good size. Breakfast was limited.
Electrical out let only Europe Style and room climate control did not work for individual room . Heat is too hot for us.
Centrally located but outdated hotel. Needs repairs. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. 6 Euro breakfast was worth the money
It is beautiful with large living rooms to sit in by the lobby. Nice patio and bar. Enclosed and quiet. No street noise. I could walk to Villa Bellini in a few minutes. Room was great . Staff very nice .
There were bugs in my water drinking glass. Carpets dirty.
2 stars at best.
This is at best a 2 star property. Super old, not maintained, tiny rooms and horribly furnished. Will avoid staying here at all costs in the future.
Great Deal in the Middle of Catania
We just stayed in the Katane on our first in after arriving in Sicily. The hotel had a room ready for us with an early check in so we could crash after two flights in from the US. Rested we were able to park just outside the door or use their inside garage. Having had Sicilian hotel breakfasts in over 20 different places in three trips over the past three summers I can say that the Kantane's was as good or better than any we have had. The dining room and courtyard are old world beautiful and prittier than the pictures show. All of Catania's beautiful sights are within a mile and the hotel resides in a typical Catanian urban neighborhood. The standard double room has a big bed and great bathroom that reminded me of some London high-end hotel bathrooms. Very friendly and attentive front desk staff round out the hotel. We liked it so much for our first night we rebooked it and stayed our last night in Sicily for our morning flight. I took 13 minutes to drive to the airport.
Clean and spacious hotel 20mins walk from the Duomo. Excellent breakfast, Extremely good value. Staff very helpful.
From the outside, the hotel is unremarkable, but once inside the decor and courtyard help one feel one has stepped back in time to an age of luxury. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The area is not the one a tourist should stay in ... the hotel is beautiful , clean with friendly staff otherwise
The Katane Palace Hotel is very central. Our room was cleaned every morning by the time we returned from breakfast, all linen clean and fresh. Staff friendly efficient and helpful. Easy to walk to restaurants and places of interest. EXCELLENT
I liked the attractive courtyard in the building. My room was pleasant and quiet. The reception staff were friendly and efficient. I would have liked to be able to read in bed before going to sleep but the bedside light was woefully inadequate for this purpose. Also, the restaurant staff, although friendly, were extremely slow. The evening we had supper in the hotel, we had to get up and start to walk out of the restaurant in order to get them to notice that we wanted the bill.
Breakfast was appalling for a 4* hotel - 2 out of 5 morning there was no hot water to make tea, no freshly squeezed juice, plastic cups instead of glasses. Cheese, hams, croissants were stale - left over from day before and day before that etc. when any item finished, it was never topped up. only one hot item - scrambled egg.
Good location
Very friendly staff and for a last minute booking it was excellent.b
Comfortable, well run and reasonably priced hotel.
We were very impressed with Katane Palace Hotel. There is 24 hour desk service; vallet parking and help with baggage; There is a small bar open with sandwiches as well as drinks. The breakfast provided a range of many alternatives from which one could choose. The environment was clean and all in all pleasant. We were able to walk to the downtown area- quite a distance, but worth the effort as the downtown square has some nice statues; a small fountain statue, and two large cathedrals. There are many Italian restaurants on and just off the main avenue going downtown..
We showed up and the place was CLOSED!!!!!! They still charged my card and I could not get ahold of ANYONE! I had to book another place!
Hotel, not in the best location. Internet not really good and the hotel took the liberty of deciding which websites it deemed appropriate for me to browse. The interior of the hotel is nice, but I would not stay here again.
An excellent, stately and grand hotel which is not evident at first sight. It is located in a street parallel with the main street and the whole of Catania is grubby. However, the interior of the hotel and our room were great. It has a feeling of grace though not quite majesty. The staff could not be better. Breakfast was really nice. Highly recommended.
Nice
Nice. Ok area. Nice staff. Breakfast ok.
Older, classy hotel - a good find
This is an older hotel which was obviously grander in the past but still has a lot of character and class. The room and lounge areas are spacious with antique furniture and pictures. Bed was very comfortable. Good breakfast in rather impressive surrounds. The concierge parked and retrieved our car for us. Located on a quiet side street about 20 minutes walk from the city centre. Overall, a good find and highly recommended.
Lovely hotel with a pretty central court yard
Spacious rooms and very helpful staff. The hotel has an authentic Sicilian charm to it. Under ground parking available.
Highly recommended.
The people who work in reception were helpfull, to take breakfast in terrace was nice, hotel location was close to bar, cafe, restaurants and wifi works properly...
Great location in a busy town
Great location with ample on street parking. Spacious lounge area perfect for a late drink after dinner. Character hotel with a lots of great space
reasonable Hotel
lovely city pleasant hotel room was fine clean and comfortable would happily stay again
Hotel in need of a refurbishment
The hotel itself is a bit disappointing as it looks better in the pictures than in reality. Toilets where refurbish in the 90's and the rooms are not updated as per a 4-star hotel. The location is not great. The breakfast is ok, nothing to be admired. The most annoying thing is that makes you use plastic glasses, also, all the seasonings, like oil, salt, jam, etc, comes in individual plastic portions. I find a shame that in 2018 a hotel still using none reusable packages. I would not recommend this accommodation at all.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Katane Palace Hotel. Great staff, delicious breakfast, and the hotel and room were always clean. Good location and a safe area to walk around in either day or night. The shower and surrounding area were slightly slippery so make sure you have sturdy sandals. Our favorite part about this hotel was the OUTSTANDING dinner we had in the patio/garden area. It was probably one of the best dinners we had as we explored all of Sicily.
Very good choice for your stay
Good hotel in the center of Catania, at walkable distance from the central Via Etnea. Lovely staff and quiet room made the difference. Also the breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious. Very good choice!
Catania 2018
Excellent staff very friendly and willing to help at all times. Hotel has private parking spots for the guests very convenient. Hot water comes and goes but it was never cold The rooms were big and comfortable only the floors are made of a vinyl material that feels sticky under the feet. Breakfast was good. The area was not pretty to walk at night.
Staff was very kind and helpful. I would stay at Katane Palace Hotel again, it is very close to everything and they arranged a driver to pick me up from the airport. Staff made the visit nice!😁
Central location and clean
It was easy access and walking Very friendly staff
comfortable hotel in quiet location
Very helpful and friendly staff. Good breakfast. Easy walk to the center and also to the bus station for trips to Taormina, Syracusa etc. The hotel is on a rather dingy street but, once inside, it is very pleasant.
Clean big rooms. Nice staff. Centrally located. Highly recommended.
New Year's in Catania
The location is excellent, staff outstanding and the chef, De De is a five star wonder. The food was outstanding. We had a 5 star meal on New year's eve. Only problem the music was too loud and we could not dance to it as the floor was taken over by a large group from Bulgaria and they danced to their music the whole night.
Pleasant hotel, peaceful, clean
Very pleasant and comfortable stay. Staff courtesy and helpful at all times. Room and bathroom very clean and reasonable size with welcome courtesy water and soft drinks every day.
Dated hotel
On the positive side - spatious room and good breakfast. Otherwise - old fashioned hotel, not centrally located, tiny TV which did not work, few outlets, problem regulating the water temperature in the shower. Not a 4 star hotel!
Value for the cost
Room was nothing fancy, but practical, clean and comfortable. Good location close to restaurants and a metro about 15 minutes walk away. Bar fridge with complimentary water and pop was a nice touch. The breakfast was included and had a good variety of selection. The staff are excellent, very helpful and friendly.
A little shabby for a 4 star hotel
Great Hotel
Really great Hotel for staff, location and decor, would recommend it
Convenient to attractions.
We were very pleased. Very good breakfast. Very helpful staff.
Great Hotel
This is a very good hotel. I saw none bethere in Catania and we visited a number of other hotels further down town. The area around this hotel is respectable and it was possible to sit out at night in a square close to the hotel. The hotel staff were the best I have come across for a long time. All were pleasant and gave great advice and assistance in travel arrangements. There is a high standard of hygiene at the hotel. The street in front was quiet and the courtyard quiet also and always accessible. Also staff have excellent English. Had a lovely stay. Thanks. Georgina (Ireland)
lovely place, central and attentive staff
We were very happy. A clean and comfortable hotel in a central location. Tasty big breakfast.
Good base for getting around
Big room with air conditioning, safety deposit box, hairdryer, mini shampoo, mini bar with mineral water and juice complimentary every day, tv. Breakfast with a good choice, which you can sit outside if wanted, staff helpful, about 10 mins walk to bus station and train station 20 mins walk to very rocky beach or 40 min walk to sandy beach or you can take the D bus from centre. Beds changed every three days and towels daily if needed. Ten mins walk from centre, market on everday apart from Sun on till 1 everyday and 8 on Sat 7 min walk away.
Good hotel clean has all the facilities that you would expect. All services were good food exetera. One thing though the location
Hotel OK - shame about the location
Large rooms with comfy beds. Seemed to be geared towards the older and group market. Service at the bar was very slow and in a couple of cases we had to go and find the barman ourselves. Breakfast was usual for Italy - nice pastries but the only hot food available was scrambled or boiled eggs which had been there for some time. Fresh orange juice maker was a nice addition to the breakfast though. Central courtyard was pleasant for a drink (if you could find the barman).
Very lovely place not far from the historical sites. Highly recommend!!
Comfortable Hotel,good access to centre
We stayed at the Hotel for the first two nights, and the last night of our stay in Catania. It was a good way to start and end our successful visit to Sicily. After a tiring journey, the staff removed the car to their private covered garage. We were able to have an afternoon exploring the centre of the city on foot. The following day we drove to Syracuse and Noto and returned to familiar surroundings for a second night at the hotel; a good way to start the ten day holiday before exploring some of the rest of Sicily in a hired car. No small request seemed too much trouble for the friendly and willing staff. On the last day we drove to the airport and when we arrived at the Avis car hire desk, we realized that we had left the flight and car-hire documents at the hotel in a small back pack. We telephoned the hotel and they dispatched the backpack by motorbike to the airport; it arrived very quickly. This avoided, what would have been a very stressful drive back to the hotel, and which could have made us late for the flight. This reflected the attitude of the hotel staff; always trying to help.
A wonderful stay in a hotel full of character
A first class experience. The hotel was very comfortable and the staff wonderful. A special mention for the morning reception lady, who was so helpful with all our questions about travelling around Catania and beyond, and also the great guys who parked our car when parking was needed. We as a family would definitely recommend this hotel and all its facilities. The hotel is in an excellent location, in walking distance of great shopping and eating. It is also full of character, and the breakfast in the inside garden wonderful.
Grand Old Sicily
This hotel was magnificent in it's old grandness. Rooms were clean and large. Bedding (especially pillows) not at maximum comfort. Staff was attentive and very friendly. Breakfast (at cost) was great and included "fresh" squeeze your own orange juice. Attentive and friendly staff especially night bar staff. Off street parking.
Above All Others!
Wonderful experience! Absolutely wonderful hospitality! Well above any other!
The staff was very helpful. You should mention that parking is limited.
Nice Hotel
Food very good in hotel.
It is quite in the centre, and if you arrive early, may could having a underground parking space, and this is very very important since drive into Catania is horrendous!
Very nice hotel. We enjoyed our room. Bathroom was modern with a good shower. Breakfast was very nice. Nice terrace available throughout the day. Staff made great coffees at any time of the day. Hotel is walking distance from Via Etnea and other main areas.
Keystone Cops Reprise
Poor location a longish walk to the center.. Despite 3 email confirmations they lost all our reservations (four succeeding nights) other than the first night and they were fully booked. Not very professional
Clean, comfortable, convenient hotel, modest price
This is a pleasant, quiet, clean hotel. Rooms are not luxurious but are quite comfortable. The price was low for the quality.
Clean and basic
Nice hotel, walking distance to main square. Overall though hotel is a little tired, wifi only works in the foyer. On check out they forgot to give me my passport (they kept it behind reception - unsecured a little concerning why not take a photocopy?) - luckily I remembered to ask!!
Elegant hotel for a very good price
Very nice, elegant hotel, with a beautiful interior patio in the style of ancient Roman villas, used for breakfast, evening meals and relaxing. Spacious, comfortable room furnished in classical style. Free wifi and AC. Good buffer breakfast. Free parking in the garage, but parking lots are not always sufficient and you usually rely on the staff to park and take out your car. Cleaning not all that thorough, but clean however. Within walking distance from the center. Not the nicest neighborhood, but the hotel is surprisingly elegant. Very good price.
Very Central
The hotel is very central in the town, getting access is challenging, however the hotel once inside the doors is very comfortable. I would warn guests that outside the world can be very dangerous, keep an eye on your goods at all times, as theft is rift in the area.
Good hotel
Good hotel, helpful staff ,good breakfast and restaurant. Recommend to everyone.
Centrally located - Superb Hotel
Welcoming and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable and clean room - efficient air con and good wi-fi connection. Centrally placed to walk to main shopping area or train station Quality restaurant at hotel
poor location, useless staff, expensive
The hotel was nice enough to look at but the staff were unhelpful, the breakfast rubbish, the service slow and they charge for everything. The breakfast consisted of scramvled egg, boiled egg, ham, cheese and bread. Nothing healthy on the options at all. We also requested parking and didnt get that as appatently garage was full. We then ordered room service just a small chocolate pudding with some vanilla and pistachio ice cream and got 3 scoops of chocolate ice cream over an hr after ordering and got charged 21 euros which came with 5 euro charge to deliver to room. Did they drive it from the other side of town or something? Finally staff were quite rude. Wouldn't stop there again and found it very over priced and not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel.
One night in Catania
I was only there for the night, but the room was very comfortable albeit a bit sparse. Love the addition of the large balcony, it was a very nice touch. Both the hotel and the room seemed clean and very classic looking. The area where the hotel is quiet, located is a little bit out of the way, but a quick 10 - 15 minute walk from Via Etna and the restaurant area. The only con was the bathroom, which was clean, however there was no shower stall, just a shower head between the sink and the toilet. I'm not a fan of those, however, this may just be a handicap room and not indicative of all rooms. All in all, it was an enjoyable stay, and for the price, it was extremely worth it and I would be happy to stay there again.
Nice hotel best in area
Very nice up to American standards of a good hotel
Nice hotel with friendly staff
I had a very comfortable stay and I felt safe in the hotel. The personnel was kind and competent
Safe and clean hotel with helpful, kind staff
I slept over two nights with my daughter and later on another night alone. Aside from the fact that they provided us with two very small beds the rest of the experience was very satisfactory. The staff is kind, polite and well trained and the hotel is very clean.
Great Hotel
Luxury, large, clean rooms, friendly, free car valet service etc
Comfortable small city hotel
Reasonable hotel. The immediate surroundings were nothing special but we found good restaurants 15 minutes walk away
Elegant hotel with great staff!!
The hotel is old and very elegant. I loved the sitting area in our room with the old fashioned furniture. The chef and restaurant staff are amazing! The only negative is the parking. When we arrived the parking lot was full. We had to find a spot on the street which can be challenging in Sicily.
The location of the hotel is very good.
Reaching to the hotel gets only 10 minutes by car and it is close to the city center. The staff was very welcoming and service was good.
Good value
The room was clean and spacious. Staff were nice. Wifi was awesome but hotel room had no standard US outlet. Hotel computer is a disaster if you can use your own phone it tablet you won't be able to check in for flt. Good value for money.
Great place to stay
It was one of the best , I was very satisfied room was nice staff were need and polite , service was excellent overall this hotel was one of the best that we experienced in Catania .
Comforts and convenience of home
I enjoyed my stay. There were extensive and tasty breakfast choices, served until 10:00. Many sites were within a 15-minute walk. Numerous buses, including one to the airport, were just 2-3 blocks away. The staff was always helpful; the large sitting area with small library, piano, and computer available provided a comfy place to relax on a rainy day; the refrigerator in the room supplied with complimentary water and soda pop was convenient; the bathroom had a large counter; the bed was comfy, room lighting was sufficient, the room was quiet even when someone was playing the piano right below it. The variety of eating places in the area was a bit lacking; but it was sufficient to meet my need. I stayed 3 nights and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Almost everything free
Everything was faultless. Our room was very warm even with the AC turned on & even windows open too. Thank goodness for the free Coke, Fanta & 2 bottles of water in the room fridge each day! :)
How we regard the hotel
The reception staff were very good and obliging especially in providing info on where to go for tourist sights and places to eat if we didn't use the hotel. Breakfast was fine with plenty of choice. We only dined twice in the restaurant at night, the food was good but fairly expensive and no atmosphere whatsoever.
High recommended
Very nice friendly staff. Nice space in downstairs area to work. Rooms very nice and clean. Bathroom well appointed. I stayed here for 7 nights on business. will stay here again.
Great hotel
A comfortable hotel in a good location. Breakfast was good in the main courtyard. Will definitely stay her again.
clean hotel but not well located
We stayed here for a night. The hotel is clean today and well decorated. However the location is not perfect is quite far from fisher market or Basilica and there arent many nice restaurants nearby.
It was fine and decent. However the morning of our flight they forgot the wake up call and the free valet was not open in the morning and the desk clerk said he wasn't sure if we could get the car if there was another blocking it. Ended up getting our car out of the garage ourselves.
Fantastic!
I am a 26yo female traveling solo and found the experience at Katane Palace Hotel to be exceptional! The room is immaculately clean and maintained by the maid daily. The bathroom is a decent size. The room was spacious for my two suitcases (I like to shop) and had a fridge with free water daily, safe, wardrobe, air conditioning, TV, window and desk. My only criticism is that I found the wifi connection to be poor in my room. When I used wifi in the lobby it was fantastic. I have to give a special mention to two staff members that were super friendly, always smiling and helpful - Susy and Guiseppe. I would recommend everybody to speak to Guiseppe about Catania as he will let you know the places you should visit. While staying in Catania I enjoyed a trip to mount etna, kayaking and a day of Sicilian cooking (all through trip advisor). The city centre and beach are not far from the hotel - I enjoy walking so it's OK). The neighborhood is safe and there's plenty of restaurants and bars nearby like Mosaik! I would definitely stay here again!!!
Only gave a lower star for service as was charged parking despite it being confirmed on my booking. Wasn’t pleased and forced to pay. Otherwise liked the hotel
