The sea view is beautiful BUT everywhere you go there are ten's to hundreds of steps. To go from it room to the lobby you have around 200 steps and you get all sweaty and angry. The hotel location is far on the other side of the island.

This property is GORGEOUS and the location stunning and convenient for snorkeling, diving and views. I would say it’s a “must do” destination! The only caveat that I would have is that the rooms are connected by steep stairs and pathways so those with mobility issues would not be happy here unfortunately.

While the property’s location is excellent and it has great views, it costs too much. After a couple of nights elsewhere on the island, I felt there were much better options price wise.

The free shuttle didn’t have enough space for everyone that arrived at the pier even if we confirmed by email with the hotel prior to arrival. Check in is a mess and they take you around in big groups where you can’t hear what is said. Rooms are getting old and not very well maintained ( we had a villa in the newer section ) In the villa, there is no AC in the living room part and no curtains so it gets quite warm when sunny. The staff is sitting in the stairs watching videos on speaker phones. This is far from a 5stars, a good 3, at best.

The view to Shark Bay was outstanding from our suite. There are 276 steps from the sea to Reception at the top. A great workout everyday. The pool area is beautiful - a small gym served me well. The property is high on a hill top w a steep walk down (or up) to the main road or villages - the property is a ways from the main villages so you’ll need taxi or hotel transport w various drop and pick-up times - the main dining room/restaurant was lovely - great food and service when we choose to dine

The overall stay was brilliant. Wonderful property and the view from our room was beautiful. The staff were wonderful people, very friendly, although were not as attentive as some of the staff in the other hotels, for example they forgot our breakfast order one morning so we just sat there for ages. A few minor things to work on, but overall would recommend, especially to anyone looking to learn to dive.

I had high hopes for this property, but it is far from everything on the island, it is very hilly with a lot of stairs and a person frequently injuring herself, it wasn't the best. The floors in the room are very slippery and I almost fell a few times. The water from the taps was also brown, so I didn't feel safe brushing my teeth with it or even taking a shower. Luckily I was only there for a night. I would consider another property on Koh Tao before coming back to this one.

This is such a gem. The resort is nested in the best bay of Koh Tao. This is where daily small snorkeling cruise operators bring their customers to see the huge sea turtles and black tip sharks that live in the bay ( we saw both !). The resort's staff is very caring especially Mr. Nice the manager in charge when we were there (from dec 24 2022 to Jan 2nd 2023). He helped us with all our requests and more important it was a great source of local restaurant knowledge suggesting the best restaurants to eat. The rooms are not the newest around but they are clean and cozy. Best place to stay in Koh tao by far, if you want be in luxury environment (as luxury as you can be in Koh Tao that is a very chill out island)

Beautiful but Remote and not walkable

orgeous resort with views that are amazing. Don’t let the mile to town fool you. I walk everywhere and this is not walkable. The road to town is steep and sandy. At night there are not lights. There’s a shuttle but unless you’re planning to shop, dine and get a spa treatment it’s hard to spend the 3.5 hours between rides. Also there are stairs everywhere so if you have any sort of mobility issue I would avoid. Stairs from pool to restaurant... more to reception... from reception to my room it’s down three flights and then back up one. From there is was maybe four flights down to the ocean. The stairs are varied heights, widths and have wavy edges to you need to pay attention. Food in the restaurant was average and priced as a resort. I think one of the dishes had gone bad one night. Business was slow while I was there due to covid travel bans and I was trying to order things freshly made. My “from the wok” dish was a stew that had soured/gone rancid. I misplaced a key (standard plastic room key card) and was charged $15. Tried to make spa appointments before I arrived sad was told it wouldn’t be an issue. They ended up being fully booked (which is shocking bc the resort was EMPTY). Dive shop was great to work with but you can stay closer to town and the beaches and they’ll come get you. (I would have done that had I known.)

Nice hotel with a nice pool. We stayed in one of the pavilions which had a good view of the ocean. There are a lot of stairs so not for the low mobility traveller. There is no direct access to a sandy beach. You can swim in the ocean but ocean floor rocky/coral where the hotel access is. Breakfast underwhelming. Ate dinner at the restaurant one evening but wasn't as tasty as the restaurants in town. Hotel shuttle convenient. We ended up hiring a scooter which I would recommend. Overall pleasant stay.

When I realized that there are no ferries travelling to koh tao after 5.30pm, I tried to cancel 1 night at Jamahkiri as I would be landing in Koh Samui at about 8pm. However, they said they couldn't do a refund and didn't offer me anything else in exchange for a wasted night. I also got into a fairly painful motorbike accident in Koh Tao during one of the days that I was there and I had a wound that was pretty deep and kept bleeding. So i had a shower, and I used their towels to dry my body and some of my blood got on their towel and they charged me 500 baht for "dirtying" their towel. It's not like i can stop the blood from flowing right? Jesus. It's a nice place don't get me wrong but these 2 points that I've listed above makes it seem that their only interest is in the money and not their guests. On a positive note, if you want to learn how to scuba dive, their diving center has some of the finest instructors who are super patient and friendly and accomodating.

This was the best hotel we stayed in Thailand. It had the wow factor, location was the best, we preferred to stay the whole time at the hotel as it was too good to leave, even our 12 and 15 year old missed it after we left it 4 nights later. We snorkelled every day from the hotel marina. They have a few shuttle to main area everyday, we ate 2 meals at the hotel and one meal we had when we went in, there is either an option to stay in town for 3.5 hrs till the next shuttle arrives or 20-25 mins if you want to quickly oder pizza and shake for take away in the restaurant right where the Jamahkiri shuttle parks near their office. Breakfast is very good. This hotel has a lot of character. If we come to Thailand again then I would fly straight to Kho Samui and catch the Lomprahaya boat to Kho Tao. We really regret that we did not do scuba diving and hope to utilise it next time. This hotel won't be good for people who cannot walk up and down stairs, it will give your heart a work out. This was our favourite stay in Thailand.

EXCELLENT RESORT - UNLESS YOU DON'T LIKE STAIRS!!!

The only CON of staying at this hotel is the STAIRS! I liked the exercise, but I had to climb 148 steps up and 16 steps down to get from my room to the restaurant. Also, the shower was a little slippery. They could maybe invest in some bath mats for guests to stand on so the shower floor isn't so slippery. Other than that, I absolutely loved staying at this hotel. My spacious room with a balcony and view of the ocean was spectacular. I liked the pool - although it didn't cool me off. It was too warm. The food at the restaurant was good (not great), but I was fine with it. You can rent snorkeling gear or kayaks down at the "beach" in front of the hotel, which was super convenient. I EVEN SWAM WITH A GREEN SEA TURTLE after being told that they sometimes hang out in the water in front of the hotel. I was in the water for about 2 hours before I spotted it, but it was worth it! The staff - all of them - were AMAZING!!! They were constantly checking on me to make sure I had everything I needed. The hotel is not close to the main part of town, so you have to take a taxi to go back and forth, but that's exactly what I wanted - peace, quiet and solitude. I would definitely stay here again!

This was a gorgeous spot. Private & exclusive with the hotel built to incorporate the cliff & landscape. The only thing that would lower the rating at all was the amount of stairs. Elderly or handicapped people would not do well here. Originally our room was 200 stairs from the lobby. The hotel was able to move our room but it was still a daily challenge for me. Deserves a sixth star

Located on the southern, quieter, side of Koh Tao island, this resort is complete with an amazing spa and an excellent dive centre. Services and excellent and so is the restaurant. The Thai side of menu is varied in a way that you can avoid repeating yourself, for breakfast do try the local / Asian fusion options. The resort is nicely built into steep slopes which helps to lose any “crowds” and create a very secluded, luxurious feel. The dive center is an amazingly well-equipped and friendly operation inside Jamahkiri Resort – your chance to escape crowds in Koh Tao when diving, also looks like a good place to do courses. The boat is stylish and very comfortable and speed boat runs to the Sail Rock are also available.

Thank you Jamahkiri. I had an absolutely wonderful 8 night stay. My room was beautiful with the most amazing view to start my day. Breakfast was delicious, the pool was refreshing with the plenty of loungers for all guests. Lots of stairs to climb as per previous reviews so something for guests with mobility issues to consider - however I think that it’s everywhere in Koh Tao, not just here. 4 x per day shuttle into town and the complimentary boat to the next beach was really handy. All staff were exceptionally friendly, professional and hospitable. As you can tell, I can’t speak highly enough of my experience at your resort. Lots of steps but worth it!!

Amazing location. Great shuttle service to the main town. Rooms decor is a little dated. Breakfast was great. Lots of steps but not a deal breaker. I would stay here again!

Beautiful cliff-side hotel.

We had a fabulous stay at the Jamarkiri. The staff was friendly and attentive. The snorkeling all around Koh Tao was fantastic, but we saw a reef sharks and my husband saw a sea turtle in the bay right next to the hotel. The food (and drinks) were delicious. We (foolishly) got sunburned and strongly recommend the aloe body wraps at the Spa. The hotel itself has a unique architecture that reminded us of the Gaudi buildings in Spain. Beautiful.

Not worth the price!!!

Staff and food were excellent, view great but everything was costly! You have to rent snorkelling each day for 100bart this should be included in the price. Gym was closed for renovations but nothing else offered. Yoga was also not running. Had to pay to get clothes press as they won't provide an iron. Relations manager was awkward in trying to strike up conversation. Shuttle into town was very infrequent 3 times a day then it's 500 Bart into town! On a slope the stairs are a calf burner. This was our honey moon and the hotel made no effort at all. Overall we were disappointed with our stay and wouldn't recommend it to people, stay in town on the beach, not value for money.

They went above and beyond

These people we outstanding. I booked the room the night before on Expedia. The next day around 11 am I called and explained to them that it was my wife and my 25th wedding anniversary. I spoke with Mary, and told her that we are both vegans and we would love if we could have dinner delivered to our room. She went through all the vegan options with me, asked if we wanted champagne and to have the bed decorated. When we got there the hotel was absolutely gorgeous! The room overlooked the ocean, was beautiful and they had decorated the bed with towels that looked like swans and a ton of flowers. It had rained that day so away from my wife, the front desk person said they could not do dinner in the room but that they were waiting in the dining room for us. They had reserved a corner table for us and kept the other guests from that area of the dining room. We were served a full four course vegan mean that was delicious with different dishes for each of us. They even brought the rest of the champagne to our room to finish off. The most incredible thing is that the whole dinner including champagne was less then $100. I could not have asked for a better place to spend our 25th anniversary. They hit it out of the ball park. The pool was perfect, there is a semi private beach that you can go down to and it also included a full breakfast buffet. Jamahkiri, I cannot thank you enough for making our visit so special.

Fantastic

Fantastic is all I can say. You must be in good condition to climb stairs, but everything that awaits you is spectacular. Scenery, service, food, equipment, accommodations, are all first class. Stay here and you will be provided an extraordinary experience!

Stylish, chic and spectacular views

We stayed for a few nights and it is spectacular. The hotel is built into the cliff side and consists of a set of detached bungalows and a hotel accommodation block. Our hotel room was large, stylishly furnished and with a spectacular view over the sea. You are collected from the ferry terminal and transported the 10 min journey to the resort. Be aware if you are of limited mobility that the hotel is built into the cliff, so there are a lot of connecting steps (there are ramps in some places). The resort has a dive centre, and the international dive instructors speak fluent English and seemed competent. There is a jetty which is used for diving boats and you can snorkel there. The hotel runs a shuttle boat service to a white sand beach that is next to the resort - its free and takes only a few minutes. There is a restaurant which offers all meals, and has a decent selection at reasonable hotel level prices. Koh Tao is a small island and the resort is not within walking distance of the nearest village, so although the hotel offers a complementary minibus service, we spent most of our stay in the resort, and couldn't easily pop out somewhere else for dinner. We had a problem with the hot water in our room, but were offered an upgrade to a bungalow if we'd wanted it - the customer service is excellent. Overall, this is worthy of its high rating, its a spectacular 5 star hotel at a fraction of European prices. It would be a perfect base for honeymooners or divers.

Good view, lots of stairs!

Overall a decent hotel, but staff is wonderful, so, this is what brought it up to a four for me. Property is showing signs of age, and roaches in existence. Be warned, breakfast buffet can get crowded , serving area is small, and flies come inside the non airconditioned eating area, but nothing out of the ordinary for this area. Overall a better quality resort for this island but would not survive on Samui.

Absolutely amazing time at Koh Tao!!

We had an absolutely wonderful week at the Jamakhiri Resort! When we first arrived, we were struck by the stunning location and picturesque scenery of the resort. The staff were warm and welcoming and got us quickly oriented to the resort and settled into our accommodations so that we could get started on our vacation right away!! The resort is clean and modern with breathtaking views of Shark Bay and the surrounding ocean. The resort buildings are nestled in and amongst natural island rock formations and tropical plants and trees. Our rooms were large, very clean and spacious, with gorgeous views of the island and ocean. Bathrooms were clean and modern and daily housekeeping services keep everything in excellent condition!! We even loved the stairs leading up and down from the restaurant, to the pool, to our rooms and to the beach. It gave us just enough exercise to enjoy an extra drink or snack by the pool each day if we wanted!! : ) The restaurant offered delicious Thai and North American menus and the view from the cliffside pool was outstanding! We ate lunch at the pool almost everyday because the food was great and the atmosphere was perfect!! We went snorkelling in Shark Bay and were able to see several black-tip reef sharks along with other marine life!! It was amazing!! My sons and husband also got their scuba diving certificates in the nearby village. There are several diving schools in the village and Jamakhiri resort also offers diving lessons.

Great stay

Resort was excellent. Staff was over the top accomodating. Room was large and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the ocean. Restaurant was very good with excellent service. The advertising warns about many steps, believe it! 121 steep stairs from our room to the restaurant. If you are looking for a great place to relax and get away from the rat race, this is the place for you.

Really nice ECO-resort!!!

Jamahkiri is beautiful and secluded with their own diving club and marina. The pool's great with a bar serving happy hour drinks from 5-8pm. Rooms are very spacious, clean, great view. Spa's high quality and cheap. There are frequent shuttles to and from Mae Haad pier. Just one thing - stairs!

Wonderful hotel, staff was most attentive.

The island as a whole caters to divers & snorkelers. I came out with my girlfriend for a 3-days and it was complete with peace and quiet. ANything more, would have required taking diving classes to stave any boredom. Highly recommend the hotel and the restaurant was most tasty. Visit Koh Tao!

Stunningly breath-taking

The resort is set on a cliff with beautiful views. The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful and were very accomodating. Staying at the hotel, you need to be aware that there are lots of stairs surrounding the grounds. Therefore be prepared for lots of exercise. The resort is also located in a remote area, but there are regular shuttle buses into town. The food is reasonably priced for the setting but, there is a 17% tax/service charge applied to all transactions. Overall a great place to stay.

Great Hotel with great views

Very Upsacle and unique experience. Each room is set up a little different and away from each other (built into the hill) overlooking the water. The hotel is 5 star in my opinion. The rooms are extremely good and the beach near by is not accessable by foot, but the hotel has a boat dedicated to take you to and from the beach (one minute boat ride). The beach is fairly private and takes you away from the big touristy crowds of Ko Tao. Hotel access from the Ko Tao pier: requires a cab ride which can get costly if you take several trips to and from there each day. The hotel does not rent Mopeds (unlike some other hotels in Thailand). Breakfast is quite good. I never got to use the pool at this hotel (didnt feel the need given the beaches). Con: If you are unable to climb a lot of stairs, this may not be the place for you. Our room could only be accessed after climbing approximately 200 steps (downhill on the way to the room and uphill on the way to the restaurant / lobby). It's fine as you get a lil bit of exercise.. Pros: The rooms are incredible (they're more like little luxury huts with beautiful views, as opposed to hotel rooms).

Great View

Great view from the hotel rooms and restaurant. awesome breakfast. nice dinning experience, a little bit expensive but very good and fresh food. Rent a scooter so you can get to the town easier since the shuttle bus runs only 3 times a day. The way to and from the hotel is not really a road, but we still managed to go around with our scooter. Amazing cocktails by the pool, must try the happy hour 5pm to 8pm. Diving experience was nice, try to get a bit further for better views (The hotel rent the equipment for 100 baht for 4 hours per person). The island is not big so even the hotel is located in the south, it takes only about 10 mins by scooter to the center (beach & restaurants & massages). To get to the nearest beach the hotel can take you with their taxi boat for free, we saw nice hotels next to the beach as well, so for those guests they have nice beach and need to swim a bit further if they want to go diving.

Beautiful Hotel

This hotel is stunningly situated with beautiful facilities. We took advantage of the great restaurant, the lovely pool - particularly in the evening, the day spa massages, the little privat beach and lovely snorkelling and the room service for those days you don't want to climb any stairs. The hotel is wonderfully designed and a little quirky - we didn't T want to leave.

Beautiful hotel with great snorkeling!

Gorgeous hotel!! The hotel is beautiful situated on a cliff going down to the ocean. Everything was clean and the service was great. There is no sand beach right there but there is one close by via a free shuttle. Great kayaking and snorkeling trips right from the hotel. Great spa and pool as well. The restaurant is also quite yummy and the breakfast was very good! But you really can't go anywhere but stay at the hotel very easily.... Unless you arrange private taxis that are overpriced. But no reason to leave anyway!

Don't stay here

This place would have not been able to get a license to operate as a hotel anywhere else in the world. A resort with no beach. 148 stairs to climb from our room to the breakfast place + additional 16 to the hotel lobby. Be warned, if you don't want to be a hostage in this place find a hotel at the beach near civilization.

Beautiful hotel....not worth the price

we spent 5 days at the resort. AS stated by all the reviews before me, the view is breathtaking and the service was very good. The room was very comfortable and spacious. With that said, I will explain why I don't recommend this resort to travelers. 1. THE STAIRS!! it is located on a mountain...I work out 4 times a week and I was still huffing by the time I reached the reception 2. LOCATION: anywhere from 5-600 baht to get to town. Although the hotel provides shuttles, they are VERY infrequent 3. The spa.....don't bother booking it. They charge 3x the price as anywhere else and the level of expertise is no different. They entice u with a package....don't bother 4. THE PRICE. This hotel is by far more expensive then anywhere else on the island. As we toured the island we found wonderful bungalows on the beach for 100% cheaper. Based on the disadvantages listed above, it wasn't worth it
