The staff provided excellent service and assisted us with information about Taormina.
Very convenient location. I would highly recommend a taxi to / from the train station or airport. But once checked in, you can walk to everything! The hotel is old and the A/C wasn’t working very well. There was a HORRIFIC noise from the plumbing that would drive you crazy if you were there for any extended period. But we spent very little time in the hotel & honestly loved this stay. It was so convenient & had all the basics.
Jewel in Taormina
Great place very central to everything greet price excellent breakfast… had a great time I highly recommend it great view from terrace … super fruendly stuff
Average. It was advertised close to Corso Umberto. It was about 100 stairs to the Corso. The street in front is too narrow for car service to pull up to. We had to drag bags up and down to top of street where car could pick us up. Beds were uncomfortable. We asked for a refrigerator for in room. Got one the 2nd day there. We had to go to a grocery store and get ice to keep meds cool. No restaurant on-site for evening meals.
This was a lovely property in a great location. The only thing we did not care for was the loud music coming from the restaurant next door late at night.
Nice clean hotel great staff our room had a balcony with great views of Mt Etna and the bay of Taormina
Excellent location close to all the action, great for solo travellers. As other reviews mentioned the sounds of the night life do make it up to the water facing rooms but quiets down after 11pm. Staff were helpful. Breakfast was simple but great.
Nice place with a beautiful view. Walkable to the main area with restaurants and shops
Great location There was a guy playing music at a bar below. I just knew that I was getting asleep before 12:15 when he stopped playing. That is the draw back from having a room with a balcony
Property was nice but a little dated. Staff was nice and breakfast was good. We booked this hotel over one we liked better because it listed air conditioning but it was not working, they said they don’t turn it on until June. Extremely loud music from the bar both nights until around midnight made it difficult to sleep.
The hotel has good bones and in its day must have been rather grand. Today it is a well-located three star solution though tired. Central air, off for the season, left us struggling to be comfortable.
Great hotel in a prime position
This hotel was in an excellent location for exploring Taormina, especially being able to access the back door which led right out to the Corso Umberto! Staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English ,which was helpful to us. Our room was a good size with plenty of storage and the adjoins bathroom was quaint, although the shower was a bit dated. Everything was very clean and housekeeping was efficient. The little balcony overlooked the sea in the distance and although we could hear music from local bars and restaurants it wasn’t invasive. The buffet breakfast was good and plentiful. The only disappointing thing was the airport shuttle which was on the website at €50 each way. Staff were amazed at this price when we showed them and we had to pay €140 for a private taxi.
Loved it! Thank you for a great stay
I really enjoyed my stay and thought it was great value! Location is impeccable and literally 70m from the central square of Taormina. Staff was super polite and helpful whenever I needed help Overall very clean throughout with a stunning rooftop bar on top of the hotel. Rooms are a bit “vintage” but that gives it a better vibe anyway.
Great view
Great location once we found the hotel. Lots of dining areas in walking distance. Great view from rooftop bar. The only minor drawback was no power point in the bathroom and only one mirror in the bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the staff were very accommodating.
This place is a real gem - but unassuming at the same time. Its an Art hotel and the artwork didn't always suit my tastes but everything else was amazing....great price, buffet breakfast included, really polite/helpful staff and a cool roof top bar with amazing views over the whole town. And the best thing, their secret backdoor exit lead right down into the centre of town! Perfect!
Right in the centre of Taormina, excellent location. Staff very friendly. Building is a little dated, but still worth the money. Also worth paying a little more to have a balcony with sea view and stunning views of Etna.
Location and parking was not easy to find. Air condition was scheduled to turn off at 1:30 am. Great views and bar.
I really enjoyed my stay here. It’s above the Main Street of Taormina and about a 15 minute walk from the bus station (uphill!) The hotel has a lovely reception with 24 hour staff. The decor is perhaps a little outdated but I found it charming and more importantly, it was well maintained and clean. I loved the wardrobe in my room. Bed was comfortable and the room is air conditioned so perfect in the summer heat. The shower was excellent. The hairdryer was the standard “tube” style common pre 2000 so bring your own if that matters to you. My balcony was so cute, looking out towards the sea. It was overlooked but I didn’t mind that. The electrical outlets in rooms are awkwardly with light switches, so if you use an adapter it keeps turning the lights on. A very minor and non problematic gripe. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great, a selection of breads and cakes, plus cold cuts, yoghurt, cereals and juices. I would definitely stay again!
The Hotel itself was okay very clean and staff were very friendly. However are room was not so good. It would have been okay for 1 or 2 nights but it was terrible for a week. Room 307 is dingy noisy and has the smallest shower in the world. The curtain didnt go fully around or to the floor so every shower the whole bathroom was flooded. Because if noise we asked to be moved but that was a NO too busy. Didnt bother to complain about bathroom because of this, but it really isnt a good room. Dont let this put you off staying here but if offered the dungeon with smallest shower in the world, tell them a definite no no. Unless your happy to clean floor everyday and have the curtain stick to your bum.
Life on the Edge
Great location , prepare to walk alot of stairs thru out Taromina.
I thought this was a great place to stay in Taormina with such wonderful views of the sea and the town. I wish the air conditioning was not broken though. It was a bit too warm. Breakfast was great. :-)
Hotel was very nice. Great location. Excellent breakfast. Excellent cleaning. Reception staff very pleasant, only issue was our English to Italian was not the best. Side view room was very small, once sea front room became available we changed and room was beautiful. Overall very good hotel and would come back again.
Crappy but great location so wait for a deal
The mattresses in room 420 were so old they were concave (one more than the other) I asked the staff three times (in Italian and in English) for either a mattress topper (they had none), a newer mattress or to be moved to another room. I was told all the mattresses were like that. Our friend in room 322 room said one of his was bad too and one wasn't too bad. His room had a bad sewer smell so he spent most of his time out on his patio with furniture riddled with cobwebs. Our room had a tiny balcony that fit only 2 chairs with no room for your knees so if you are wanting ocean view (as we had paid for) the partial view in this room might not be what you expected. The hotel itself is faded granduer and would actually be nice if anyone cared to get new mattresses, cleaned the balconies every now and again and did something about the sewer smell. It is a great location inside the pedestrian zone - which is its only selling point (and the breakfast is pretty good with ham, cheese, boiled eggs, yogurt, breads, pastries, etc) so if you insist on staying here because of that than wait for a deal on the rooms (like less than $100) and be sure you don't stay on a floor lower than the 4th.
2 nights en-route across Sicily.
Nice spot with Sea views, but terribly difficult to locate....you have to go into a one way street...the wrong way...and reverse out...there is no right way to get there. No parking, which surprised us,as it says it is available, but you have to drive elsewhere and hope you can get it. We couldn't as everyone was double parked at the location we were sent to....we ended up paying 50 Euoros to park for 2 nights! Nice room, decent breakfast and lovely views, but access and parking was not easy.
The perfect place to stay in Taormina if you like being close to everything. Parking is nonexistent at the property but there is a big parking garage with a shuttle bus that will take you up the hill to Coursa Umberto.
Awesome location, good air conditioning, nice rooms, beautiful views.
Avoid this place!!! They turn off AC in hotel from 11am-3pm, during hottest hrs of the day, then from 2am-6am when you trying to get sleep. They claim this was stared “in your contract”. Front desk staff are indifferent to issues, manager is nowhere to be found.
This hotel is situated above the prettiest square in Taormina, and the views from the rooms overlook the sea. The architecture and art are wonderful.
Excellent Location in Taormina
Hotel Vello D'Oro is a charming older hotel with whimsical architectural touches, filled with unique artwork, right in the centre of Taormina. It is easy walking distance to numerous restaurants, shopping and historical sites. While the hotel should update its windows for sound insulation and energy efficiency, our room was clean, had a comfortable bed and the view from our balcony down to the town square, the sea and Etna were wonderful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The scenic path to the church in the rock begins nearby and we also walked to the outstanding ancient theatre and wonderful Castelmola from the hotel. There is no need to move your car during your stay to see everything Taormina has to offer. If you are wanting to park at the hotel, reserve ahead for one of the few parking spaces and be prepared to squeeze your car into a tight spot after backing down a narrow one way street the wrong way. Better to park in the parking garage Porto Catania, take the garage elevator to the street level and walk to the hotel. Be prepared to lug your suitcase up steps within the town. This situation is not unique to this hotel in Taormina. All in all, we completely enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend this hotel.
Just behind main square
Nice hotel, very central, just behind main square. First floor entrance with lift was a useful find!
Wonderful stay
The hotel was very beautiful and easy to find. It's right in the center of town so you're close to everything. My room had a beautiful terrace with a great view of the sea. They provide options to the beach which is nice because it is far . I didn't use it but can be convenient. I would definitely stay here again
convenient location, beautiful views from terrace, comfortable room, good air conditioning for July
Great Location!!!
Very central to the main strip of Taormina with all the restaurants and shops at your doorstep. Breakfast was basic but good value, croissant, rolls, cereals, meat and cheese. Easy walk to cable car for beach access.
great stay
had a great stay, hotel very central, great views, check out the rooftop bar.
Our worst nightmare realised !
This hotel was meant to be the romantic climax of a two week tour of Sicily. It failed on almost every level. Our sea view room with bidet turned out to be neither meaning we are owed a refund. The staff were unhelpful and abrupt to the point of rudeness. No forewarning was given to the need to park in the multi-storey. The electricity connections did not cater for European adaptors, Loud music from the restaurant kept us awake until midnight. A breakdown is needed of £50 extras prior to booking. Our worst nightmare realised !
Amazing view and Location!
Hotel Vello D'Oro was amazing......the location is fabulous - right off the main pedestrain street. the top floor terrace was unbeatable for views over the sea and to Mt. Etna - I spent many hours just relaxing up there. My room was very clean and the housekeeper did a great job keeping the room well organized. The buffet breakfast was fine - I'm not a huge breakfast person.....my only "complaint" was that since I didn't use the A/C - mosquitoes came in and bit me while sleeping....but I figured it out and then closed the door to the balcony at night. Also - the restaurant next door has live music until about 11 pm - I enjoyed it so it didn't bother me....but if you tend to go to bed early - it may be a factor.
Great location
This hotel had the best location! The view from the rooftop bar was great and I was surprised they also had an outdoor terrace you could have breakfast on with the same ocean view. It was about 40 steps down to the main road where all the attraction is. There was a restaurant just under our window which played music until midnight so be aware of that but if you close your window it's not bad. The music was quaint. The breakfast was nice & consisted of breads, juice, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, meats & cheeses. The only bad thing was that we wanted a double bed but got 2 twins pushed together. We asked to change it and got the same thing
So-so
The hotel is in an excellent location but I found a bug the first day I arrived and the A/C unit didn't work for 5 days.
The hotel was perfect. We loved our stay in Taormina. It was the highlight of our trip to Sicily. The staff was helpful, the rooms we large and have a very nice balcony. The only bad part was that it was noisy at night. Loud Music until 1 am.
Great location!
The hotel is very nice and clean and even though it's a few steps away from the town centre, it is really quite at night.. Parking is a problem in Taormina, you need to book a parking space with the hotel as it only has 4, if you don't manage there are two big car parks in town. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, not much to chose from.
Excellent location
Good value for money considering prices of surrounding hotels and fantastic location. Reception staff very unhelpful and rude. Also breakfast poor.
Poor Hotel
We are a couple and asked for a double bedroom but were given a single bedroom with a narrow single bed in it. Staff agreed that they had made an error with room allocation but said they had no more rooms available and couldn't change the booking. After much 'discussion' however, they finally 'found' a double bedroom for us. Room was very basic and very loud music from restaurant outside, til around midnight - 1 a.m. Many facilities in hotel broken e.g. wi-fi not working; air-conditioning broken; call bell to reception (from rear entrance door) not working. Breakfast very uninspiring and basic - little to choose from. Not a dreadful hotel but not a particularly good one either.
View from the terrace in our room was spectacular
Other than the difficulty in driving on the narrow street to get to the hotel, this hotel was fantastic. The views from our terrace were breathtaking, the food in the hotel restaurant was very good and reasonably priced and the staff extremely courteous.
Taormina Dreams
Extremely accomodating staff. ncredible views from balconies and terraces on Rooftop lounge.
The best value for the money hotel in Taormina.
This hotel has been situated perfectly, with magnificent view on Ionic sea. It is located in the city center, just above the main city square. You can hear the music from the caffe, but not after midnight. It is not loud, mostly Italian songs, quite expected for the location. Hotel is clean and cosy. Furniture is rustical, but functional. Staff is kind and correct. Food (breakfast and dinner) were good.Due to travel itinerary, I had to change two different rooms. Although the first one was smaller with smaller terace (the second one was huge and room as well), both prvovided similar view, comfort and joy. I think it is the best value for the money hotel in Taormina.
Hotel bem localizado.
Stanze scadenti
Tutto ok
The location is outstanding, marvellous
Nice
The hotel was nice. Nice room and great view. But the music from the live music from la scala is so loud it is difficult to sleep. Unfortunately
Bom local
Hotel muito bem localizado. Bom café da manhã. Quartos bons. Vale.
Bra beliggenhet
The Hotel have a perfect location in the centre of Taormina, a stunning view from the terrace. Reception, breakfast staff and the chambermaids all give you fantastic service. The room was big and also the bathroom, and we had a terrace (#202). Breakfast is fresh and been filled up the whole time , and as I wrote very good service. We can highly recommend this hotel. If we coming back to Taormina we will definitely stay here. Our stay was for 9 night. There are many good restaurants nearby. Taormina is a very beautiful little town. 💚🤍❤️
Sehr schönes Hotel mit super zentraler Lage. Rooftop Bar mit top Aussicht.
Posizione centrale e personale gentile
Esperienza molto positiva, albergo in posizione strategica, pulito e personale molto disponibile
Super centralt hotel.
Mange trapper.
5 Great nights in Taormina
We had 5 wonderful nights. The hotel is filled with art and the design of the hotel is refreshing and very cool. The rooms are big and i think its sea view from every room. We dont usually stay in hôtel bars, but this bar was so good. You have view over Etna and the rest of Taormina. The bartender that worked there (4-9 october) was extremely Nice and made us some Great gin tonics and the best negroni i had, thank you so much! We will def Come back
Buen desayuno
Bello, difficile
Soggiorno positivo.posizione splendida.
Fantastiskt hotell
Vi bodde där en natt. Otroligt fint hotell och trevlig personal.
Viaggiatori esigenti
Meget god beliggenhed
Rakastuin Taorminaan
Todella erikoinen hotelli keskellä kaupunkia, laaja merinäköala ja näkymä Etnalle. Huoneet melko pelkistetyt mutta erityisen siistit. Yleiset tilat täynnä hurmaavia yksityiskohtia, paljon taidetta, keramiikkaa, maalauksia ym. Kaksi tasannetta joilla pöydät ja tuolit, ja upeat näköalat. Miellyttävä henkilökunta. Aamiaiseen olisin toivonut vaihtelua. Taormina on kaunis ja siisti lomakohde. Paljon ihania, vanhoja rakennuksia ja runsaasti ruukkukasveja koristeellisilla parvekkeilla.
Giada was an amazing host and made our stay a delight!
