Overall the stay is very good. The hotel environment + design is very unique and unusual. Special mentioned the front desk Ms Anita and restaurant Melati Ms Ratina for their friendly and extreme good service rendered to us during the stay.

Hotel Tugu Malang has been my go to hotel to stay for very long time. Lovely and friendly service, good foods,

A jewel of East Java. Staying at Tugu is an experience in its own right … with an internationally important art collection on display, a feature pool, afternoon tea, a fine cocktail bar and dining options on site. Truly the most attentive staff and helpful staff. My one suggestion is to better inform guests of breakfast options available to them … although priced differently (but still reasonably) the a la carte is a substantially different offering for European guests compared with the buffet. An all round exceptional and memorable experience.

Amazing property in the centre of old Malang city. Walking distance from the blue, rainbow and heritage kampungs. Staff was very friendly and made sure all our needs were met. The hotel has 2 in-house restaurants and we also made use of the spa (which was amazing). Definitely pinned this hotel for possible future visits. Great atmosphere as you feel you are on an island of peace in a bustling Indonesian city.

Classic hotel, a bit like staying in a museum, but with superb service.

It was like stepping back in history. Loved the antiques, photos and old world room furnishings.

As advertised, this hotel doubles as an art museum. The decorations are jaw-dropping. Our room was comfortable, with good A/C and shower. The staff was friendly and attentive. The front desk staff answered our questions and helped us arrange a Mount Bromo tour, and even greeted us by name whenever we passed. The pool area was nice and, though small, was not used much so we had no trouble finding space. We enjoyed the two restaurants and the cafe, eating most of our meals there, and they even prepared early-morning breakfast boxes for us to take on our Mount Bromo tour. We enjoyed the daily tea, which was served in another very pleasant space. The hotel seems to be centrally located, within walking distance of parks, banks, and shops. It helps that Malang itself is very pleasant, cooler and greener than other cities we visited in Indonesia.

It is always a pleasure to return to the Tugu Malang and be welcomed by familiar faces. The hotel has its unique character which is a joy to experience and to return to. The daily complimentary tea is always a highlight. Thank you Tugu Malang.

Packed with personality

This property has so much personality and Pak Bagus and his team that run it do such a great job even if the rooms are a bit dark and slightly tired and in need of a refresh. I return to it regularly and am never disappointed. Its my home in Malang. The teatime treat is always comforting. As are meals at the hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Authentic hospitality and property

We love the Tugu and have stayed there many times. It is unique and beautiful. Everything we have eaten at the restaurant has been delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Almost Perfect

The Tugu Malang is amazing. This was our third visit (the others were 25 and 8 years ago) and we treated ourselves to an Executive Suite. The complimentary afternoon tea has some great options and the breakfast is delicious. The welcome massage was very pleasant. The room was quiet and dark, perfect for sleeping. The guided tour of the owner's collection was really informative. When we left, we were going to get a Grab to the station but the hotel provided a transfer free of charge. Just a couple of minor issues: the bed was harder than we like (but most beds in Indonesia are) and the pool was cold.

This hotel is an absolute choice in Malang. It is a very special experience for you to stay. It is just like a museum.

Comfortable & Peaceful yet in the heart of Malang

The service is very good, the rooms are quirky but comfortable and more importantly quiet. The breakfast is superb and is the reason I choose the Tugu over any other hotel in Malang. Breakfast is prepared for you, not a buffet where the food is warm or cold - but hot and freshly cooked.

Great Experience

This hotel has a personal touch to the hotel guest since the moment you check in. They will serve you with a local mini snack and drink near the hotel lobby. The room is so unique that I am very sure you will be caught by surprise. I enjoy staying in the room. There is also a personal postcard that handwritten by the hotel and attention to you name. I never see a hotel do that before. The breakfast was average to me and I think it can have room for improvement. This hotel is like a museum and every corner you will appreciate all the art piece, you will never felt bored walking around the hotel area. Upon check out, the guest is given a souvenir of a coffee and pastry. I love the pastry so much that I eaten all at one go. Overall, I think this is the first hotel which give me so unique experience and I’m very sure I will come back to stay again if I’m coming Malang. The only regret is I didn’t have a chance to dine in in their restaurant, I hope I have a chance to do it the next time.

One night in Malang

The food is the best in malang, the melati restaurant nothing is disappointing at all. We didnt get to try saigon san but i looks phenomenal. The only complain is bathroom is outdated. The bed is very comfy, we slept really well.

If you are planning on visiting Malang (which you must consider), then this is the BEST option. First of, the hotel is a display of Malang's history and culture, it's a museum itself. The staff is very friendly and caring, they also have professional guides to facilitate you. The breakfast is AMAZING!! It has a wide menu and has almost everything for everyone. The complimentary amenities, room service, room cleanliness and other facilities were also top-notch.

Wonderful hotel

The Tugu is a great hotel - a really peaceful little oasis. Staff were all excellent - friendly and efficient. Rooms are delightful - comfortable and with real personality. Restaurant food delicious and varied to suit all tastes. Overall highly recommended.

The staff were so very helpful and friendly. Manda gave us a wonderful tour of the hotel and explained the history of the rooms and the different collections. I booked the spa and had a lovely massage and body scrub.

Equisite hotel full of historical stories/display

Really enjoyed our room and facilities: plenty of sitting areas, free afternoon tea/coffee & small tasty Indonesian traditional snacks - menu is different everyday incl. breakfast (alternates between buffet & ala carte of Indonesian & European cuisine) - It is very significant esp we stayed for 6 days (didn’t get bored with same menu of breakfast everyday). Every corner of room is full of antiques displays with interesting history/story. We were interested in free hotel tour (afternoon) unfortunately we just didn’t have time- already busy with own agenda. So homey like own place - didn’t feel like hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. We were given free small bag of coffee (from hotel’s own coffee plantation and samples of mini bread (from hotel’s own bakery) as souvenirs - it was a such nice gesture/memorable for us. Never happened before with other hotels we stayed in the past. Definitely the best hotel we ever stayed!

Refreshing change from Surabaya

The Bima ride on the train to Malang was only one hour and forty five minutes. The station is only a three minute walk. Upon arrival we were offered a cool drink and a free 15 minute massage. The Tugu hotel is steeped in history and tradition. The presentation and write ups need better lighting. Much of the explanations are faded and are hard to read. The food was amazing. They staff did have a difficult time understanding my gluten free intolerance. I was able to have other food to eat. But be aware they use soy in everything and white vinegar for dressings. Ice cream is pretty much the only dessert you could eat beside bananas flambe. The hotel is situated by a rotary, which can be quite load with motorcycles and other traffic. The 4:00pm tea is vey nice. A piano player plays short little tunes, the only down side is the cigarette smoking from out side floats in. The hotel should be a completely smoke free. Designate a spot out side the front left or right of the entrance of the hotel. During dinner the smell of cigars sneaks in from the bar. It is the only hotel that serves alcohol. The gift shop has many unique things to purchase. Especially the jewelry. The rooms are spacious and comfortable for two people. The bed was very nice to sleep in with two different styles of pillows to sleep with ( light or firm). The departure gift of fresh bread and sample of coffee was a nice touch. The Hotel drove us back tot he station for no charge. Staff was very accomodating.

Hotel, just like home

Friendly staffs welcome you when you arrived. The hotel is situated at the heart of the city. The hotel made you feel like home in Indonesia and great display of local traditional household things. Great selection of Breakfast, you can choose from display or order from menu.

Complimentary 15 minutes massage and free afternoon tea were awesome. Only minor point we were offered a welcome drink, asked for ginger tea, and it didn't arrive despite chasing it up. Would recommend.

Excellent Service

Stayed at Tugu for 2 weeks. The staff were attentive. Rooms were clean, and came with complimentary water and fruits. Tea time delicacies were much appreciated. Overal, great atmosphere to get work done. only negative were the mosquitoes, though hard to keep them away in a tropical place. I will highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is great, the only thing is that their tours to Bromo are a bit on the expensive side and their beds are not that big. Apart from that, everything was great!

Traditional Design Hotel w excellent service staff

Tugu Hotel is located in the middle of Malang City. Excellent service render by Hotel staffs. Hotel is like a museum of Indonesian culture display and it will be good to spend 1-2 hours to view their exhibition. Not much choice for Breakfast but you can order from their breakfast menu. There were farewell gift from Hotel when you check out. Overall, excellent and will stay in this Hotel again!

Absolutely beautiful!

What an amazing place! Absolutely beautiful! Free tea and coffee every afternoon with snacks. Rooms are simply incredible.
