Lovely staff and beautiful grounds. Highly recommended.
We were so disappointed in the Hotel Troy, we left after one night. Many things were broken in my room, there were ants crawling all over the floor. The staff were very pleasant but way too few, so service was quite poor. Tea at breakfast the next morning took one hour to receive. I tried numerous times through emails and phone calls to speak with hotel management but still have not heard back from anyone regarding my concerns. I hope they'll do better! It's a pretty property.
The cottage room was nice and pretty, with a little common area with couches and a kitchenette. The double room on the other side, not so much. Very hard to sleep because of the dogs barking or wimping most of the night and very basic room. The place is sadly run down, garden might have been beautiful in the past but could use some maintenance and the dining room is cold and unfriendly. Food was not the best we had. Still a good option if you just want a room to sleep and don’t want to spend too much. This is also conveniently located next to the elephant orphanage, the giraffe center and Nairobi National Park.
Just an average hotel
The checkin process was disappointing as they couldn’t find my reservation for a while. Internet is very spotty. Staff are friendly but everything else was mediocre.
Great for tucked away relaxing stay
This came recommended to me by a new acquaintance. Highly recommend for an out of the way, tucked in a wooded area to truly relax away from the city center. Near the national park, BOMAS, and regional Wilson Airport. Great service. Internet is intermittent, but manageable within the main reception/restaurant area and rooms above. Very clean!
Great service at Troy hotel
The stay was great and the staff were very friendly. We had a nice relaxing day round the pool. The cottage was spacious and the setting was beautiful in the shade of the trees
The hotel was good.
It is like a disco, loud noise day and night. I chose the hotel because it is secluded and promised to be quiet, but the opposite is true.
Homely stay
Homely as usual. A few good changes all around. Food was fantastic. Staff were very friendly.
Good location, helpful staff
Hotel Troy is in a convenient location near Galleria Mall and Nairobi National Park. The staff is very welcoming and helpful, although their service in the restaurant was very slow and inattentive. Rooms were clean and comfortable and it was clear that they aim to please their customers. We enjoyed our stay and if in the area will definitely stay again.
It’s very lush and pretty. The food was excellent.
it is in a quiet and serene location away from chaos and noises of Nairobi conducive especially if you want to recharge
Amazing staff, hope to return!
Gorgeous hotel for the price and the area. Staff was super friendly. We had to book another night earlier in our trip as well and the staff was very accommodating. Meals were good and food prices were very reasonable.
Very nice environment, beautiful location, nice staff. The 200 meters of the road to the hotel is quite bumpy. Would be nice if some sand was put into the holes in the road.
Amazing Stay!!
Our stay was great..,the service, the cleanliness of the rooms and the quality of the food was amazing! Highly recommend this Hotel!
The location is ideal being close to Nairobi National Park Jomo International Airport and many other attractions. The hotel is small with a few rooms and several cottages. It feels more like a guesthouse or B&B. Staff are outstanding. Beds and pillows are very comfortable and the rooms we stayed in were spacious.
This was the best value hotel that we encountered in seven weeks in east Africa. The staff was impossibly friendly and helpful, the location was serene and peaceful while close to attractions, breakfast was great. Top recommendations.
The property is secluded by a long drive and security gate. Security checks you in and out. Restaurant on site was very good. Staff is very attentive. We changed rooms to a larger room in the main building with no issue. The property is very quiet and well maintained.
great location and service....room much bigger than pictures...delicious breakfast...close to all the Karen attractions...a true bargain
Amazing staff
Wonderful! Hotel staff is amazing and like family. They go out of their way to care for you and help in any way they can.
Nice Place Near Nairobi Game Park
We were a group of 10 staying in 2 cottages and the staff very gladly accommodated by putting an extra bed in each cottage. It was clean and comfortable. They packed us a great breakfast, since we had to leave very early. It was very near the game park so we could get an early start. Enjoyed our stay.
Fab accommodation in Nairobi
Incredibly good value for money. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food and service. Well located for getting to airport without traffic hassle.
Got there after traveling 10 hours and they informed me that they decided to stop selling beer or wine when we picked the hotel partly because we knew we would want that after a long journey No apology and no explanation Totally not worth $140/night for a tiny, dirty, mosquito filled room Not happy!
Splendid
Brilliant welcoming service once again. Early check in a plus. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Good food.
Hotel Troy in the famous Karen neighborhood
Hotel Troy has many options as a safe yet secluded seeming spot in the famous Karen neighborhood of Out of Africa fame. It's an easy, quick, and beautiful walk past a plant nursery to the Galleria shopping mall. The room offered at a base-rate of about $50 US was simple and comfortable. The cottage suites at a higher rate are lovely. The food was okay and not expensive. The friendly staff and owners make Hotel Troy special. Everyone is helpful and welcoming.
NOT RECOMMENDED
I DO NOT RECOMMEND this hotel due to the fact money (Totaling £150) was taken from our double locked room (No safe provided in the room) while we were downstairs having breakfast on our first morning, where the staff were happy to engage us in conversation. I did notice a cleaning cloth left in the room on our return from breakfast but didn't think anything of it as we had planned to go out immediately after breakfast. I did not notice the stolen money until check out the next morning when paying the Safari company we had booked. I have contacted the hotel regarding this matter. They claim no entered the room or took the money. I know this is not the case.
Hotel Troy
Hotel is in a nice quiet location, close to transport and in walking distance to a nice mall. The facilities are sufficiently comfortable, the hotel staff are just lovely. They are warm, welcoming and friendly. I will return to Hotel Troy.
Could be very good need to put fans in rooms .
A little like faulty towers ! Especially in the restaurant ,staff were lovely and did all they could to help you .Good area to see giraffe. Centre ,elephant orphanage ,crocodile farm and the national park if you want a game drive .
A Little Gem
I loved this little hotel on the edge of Nairobi National Park. It has a friendly, comfortable atmosphere; rooms with big beds, phone, wi-fi, tv and large en suite shower rooms - all the essentials for modern life, without unnecessary frills. It is a pretty group of buildings at the end of a long, tree-shaded private lane off a main Nairobi highway. There is a quiet, pretty garden and a little swimming pool and the staff are cheerful and helpful. I was not up to eating much, so the chef made me a delicious chicken broth specially. Inexpensive and friendly, this is the perfect place from which to recover from a long arrival flight, or to relax after the dusty excitement and bumpy explorations of safari for a day, or two before departure.
Stopover in Nairobi
Only stayed 1 night before an early flight. Lovely little hotel with pretty garden and nice pool. Very happy, helpful staff. Good food, nice room, very comfortable bed.
Terrible place
Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. These people should not be in the hospitality industry.
comfort stay and good access to CBD
The environment around the hotel was peaceful and nice. Moreover, the location was very convenient as it has good access to CBD and Karen as well. There are several schools nearby including Catholic University, so I feel safe and relaxed when walking around.
Hotel Suttle over Change
Driver want to wait in some mall , asked him to come back but he waited , and charge for Time !!! Why should I paid for his time ?! He did not want to go back Hotel ?!
In Nairobi? Stay at Troy!
I had the most wonderful time at Hotel Troy Nairobi! The rooms are simple but clean, the ground are very well kept and the pool area is a perfect place to lounge and read a book or check your email. The staff goes above and beyond for their guests and I felt like I was at home while at Hotel Troy Nairobi. I will absolutely be staying here again the next time I travel to Kenya! Shout outs to Chris, CeCe, Lucy, Joseph and Maxine!! They were all so warm and hospitable! Excellent location from the airport (you can bypass going downtown Nairobi) You are ten mins away from the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Centre and right across from Nairobi NP
Hotel Troy is a home away from home.
This reasonably priced hotel provides security and personable care. The staff is like family, they will care about and for you. The rooms are comfy and clean. It fulfilled our purpose: a home to leave from and return to after various safari experiences. I recommend it if you are not looking for fancy and unnecessary luxuries.
Quiet and pleasant,
Very nice tranquil setting. Way off the main road, so is quiet. Very nice staff. Near Nairobi National Park, Elephant Orphanage. Rooms are basic but clean. Big hardy breakfast included. Great value. Recommended.
A bit different than the photos
Both the room and the pool were quite a bit smaller than they are made to look in the photos. The staff was super nice and accommodating. When we mentioned that the photo on the internet showed a small table and chairs in the room but this room did not have one, they brought a table and chairs for us. The cottages they have look quite lovely and much larger, but also much more expensive. The beds were a bit hard. The dinner service was very slow, but breakfast was very good with excellent service - a very nice buffet. If you want a reasonably priced place with a good breakfast and don't mind basic, this is a good place.
Nice but expensive
Hotel is nice and it's on the safe place. A bit expensive as compare what they are providing on the rates. Toilets needs to upgraded. Road to the main entrance to the hotel need to be maintained and renovated.
1st motel experience in Nairobi
We arrived late. Someone was there to check us in. Room was smaller than I expected but clean. Had trouble with hot water and was given alternate room to shower. Breakfast was very good. Staff cooked earlier than regular hours as we were scheduled to go on safari. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Don't bother booking here, it's a nightmare !
Absolutely ABYSMAL hotel which I could not bear to stay in, thereby losing the full 2 nights' payment. It was dilapidated, sink blocked, drab, unkempt, mildewy-smelling and in no way inviting. From a distance the pool looked as if water would be unsafe to swim in. Booked in, booked right back out. Had looked at supposedly the best rooms and each was awful and unclean.
Great Experience
Was extremely pleased with my stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant was good (service was a little slow). The facilities were all well maintained and clean.
Nice area, natural habitat at its best.
Had a beautiful stay, though far, overal big up Troy team.
Lovely homely place
Brilliant place.Clean rooms and bedding. Good food, reasonable breakfast. Staff very friendly and accommodating. WiFi strong. Walking distance to Galleria Mall.
Inexpensive beauty
I got more than what I expected for what I paid. The gardens are beautiful and the rooms are comfortable. The food at the restaurant is tasty but takes a very long time to come (up to 2 hours). The bathrooms come with soap only, no little shampoos, so be prepared. This hotel is also close to a mall, the Bomas, and the National Park entrance.
Nice and quiet location with excellent staff
Great stay would definitely recommend to my friends and family. Rooms were clean and the staff was courteous. The continental breakfast was great too. They got me a taxi to the airport within minutes. Thank you for a pleasant stay! Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx
Quiet location. Walking distance to Galleria Mall.
Twin room was comfortable and a good size. The standard double very small, with no storage space. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially with booking taxis.
Enjoyable stay at hotel troy
The hotel location is absolutely great situated just next to nairobi national park! Staff were very friendly. The security staff were very helpful in calling the taxi and directing them to the hotel as we had to check out in the middle of the night to go to airport! One key suggestion is to have the hotel name signposted visibly & clearly on the main road. We had a tough time finding it as the signpost is pretty small and easily missed out even during day time.. at night the local taxi guys also had problems finding the hotel.
Hotel that can give you nightmares.
The cottage I booked was very poorly maintained. bathrooms were in horrible conditions with missing hot water facility. No staff at reception till 0630 am for help. At 630 am, on complain, other bathroom on other cottage was opened for us to take bath. The bathroom was stinking and to adjust hot-cold water knob one had to be more than 7 and half feet tall. proceeded to our destination without bath. On returning back, we requested for rooms rather than the cottage and we got them but the conditions were the same. Rooms were too small to even keep your baggage and walk around and bathrooms were same as in the cottages. Expedia must remove this hotel from its list, otherwise more families like mine would suffer in future.
Troy Nairobi 2015
The room was basic but for a one night stay it was adequate - clean and the bed was comfortable. There was no hot water in the wash basin and the shower system was passable but with low pressure. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
Lovely homely place
Hotel Troy is a lovely place with very friendly staff. Very helpful with questions about surroundings and Nairobi in general. They even gave us a better room for our comfort. Organised a game drive for us. Meals were good. If you like a quiet location , this is the place for you.
Good hotel compared to its standard
Generally , the service was OK, but there is need to put telephone handsets in the rooms to facilitate easy communication to the reception.
Hotel Troy------excellent value
The hotel is in a quiet neighborhood and a little hard to find. The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating and the food very good. The rooms are a bit spartan, but clean and adequate. There is a shopping mall nearby that has an ATM and a good restaurant. There is bus transportation from the mall into the city center. I would definitely stay there again.
Would stay here again!
Hotel Troy is enroute to Masai-Mara safari. It is about 100m away from the main road, quiet and surrounded by nature. There is some construction going on during the day;about to complete by the looks of it. The staff are wonderful. Food is great.
Nice location and reasonably priced
We took this hotel because we got a great deal. The property is undergoing a lot of construction. It is really a bed and breakfast place but nicely managed. The location is good to visit all the attractions of Nairobi and we could avoid the nasty traffic. They have a nice garden. The place looks very safe with perimeter fencing.
Enjoyed our stay.
A clean comfortable hotel with friendly staff and excellent food at a reasonable cost. The full breakfast that is included with the room was beyond our expectations. We also enjoyed the convenient location. We were able to walk to the mall and some of the tourist sites that we wanted to see.
If you are looking for a budget hotel with minimal comfort, this is the place.
Great location outside Nairobi.
Beautiful grounds surround a family owned and run hotel outside Nairobi centre. Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet spot close to David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi Nature Park and Kazuri Beads. Wonderful start or end to a safari holiday.
Good hotel close to city centre & National Park
On arrival we found the hotel to appear very pleasant looking set in beautiful gardens, small pool and in a good state of repair. Security was very high, and although the road access was a little bumpy, it was conveniently just off a main road, but far enough not to get traffic noise. The hotel was set on its own in a cul-de-sac. The room was however disappointing. While clean and presentable, it was extremely small and dark. The queen bed virtually filled the room and there was no room to sit at the table that was included. There was no view out, and the TV could not be viewed from the bed due to posts and beams being in the way. Staff were pleasant, food was good, but service for food could be very, very slow. We waited over 1 1/2 hours for a pot of tea to be delivered to our room and meals always took well over 1 hour. Overall, I have stayed in far better and bigger rooms for far less, but the location makes it acceptable and a convenient place to stay if you want to access city centre, National Park, mall Galleria, or Bomas which are all within a 5 minute taxi ride.
Excellent stay
Hotel Troy is in a great location if you want to visit attractions in Langata/Karen such as national park, elephant orphanage, giraffe centre etc. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful and freindly and made our visit very relaxing and comfortable. You can walk to local shopping mall if you want alternative places to eat or drink.
Christmas at Hotel Troy
I was travelling back from Molo, and stayed at this hotel for a week from Christmas Eve. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The water was not warm when i tried, was moved into another room straight away. The staff were very attentive to their guest needs, and i like the fact that nothing was too hard for them to do for you. The area was quiet enough for you to relax, and the security was good for you to feel safe. Good location for the locate shopping mall and to some of the touristy things. I enjoyed the fact that they were able to arrange tours etc, i think that they could promote it abit more, (or perhaps i did not see it) so when i asked, it was arranged. All in all i enjoyed my stay, i would recommend this hotel to friends and family
Fair for the price
At the price, it's difficult to be too critical. The shower was very poor, as others have found, and the TV did not work, though I was promised a repair which did not happen. Food is only just average but the staff were pleasant enough. A big help by the hotel driver, as he did put himself out when I had a long and urgent visit to Nairobo. Hotel is rather isolated which for security reasons is a plus. The ten minute walk to the local up market shopping centre is a bit difficult, with no path to use, and definitely not recommended after dark. Shopping centre has supermarket, ATM and bank I would recommend this place, if only for the price, especially those on a budget
Nice hotel near tourist spots
The staff at the hotel were fantastic and incredibly helpful. Food in the restaurant was good and everything was clean and tidy. The room was a little bit basic but comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. Only slight issues is that there were quite a few ways for mosquitoes to get into the room but the net over the bed was well maintained so it wasn't an issue over night. Also the tv signal was bad so no channels were watchable.
A comfortable way station
Stayed here two nights on our way to a safari in Tanzania. Staff very helpful. Accommodations fine. The location is sufficiently isolated that without a car you have not choice for meals but their restaurant. We'd rate the food "acceptable". They provided a driver (at modest cost) to take us to some nearby places of interest.
Further from the airport than it says
It's an okay hotel that is further than it says. It is more like 15 mins from the giraffe center and it took over a half hr to get to the airport. The kitchen was super slow but food was okay. The room was fine but far from stellar. It's okay to have a sleep in and that's it...use the bug net that's provided. The staff are okay... The waiter was pleasant but reception was a bit differerent... Could of been more helpful. The grounds and main building are pretty though
Very disappointing. Good staff, but poor hotel conditions. Ok for a budget minded traveler.
Exceedingly Good Value
Normal rates are good value, this special Expedia rate was exceedingly good for a single room in Nairobi. Comfortable if not especially spacious. The bed was fine, the shower worked and breakfast was nice. What more could you ask for. All of the staff were very polite and courteous.
WORST LOCATION
No hot water, only one TV channel that was clear, not easy access to the street. They offer a complimentary water bottle and them they presented me a bill for it. Thanks but not thanks. I will never go back again.
Quiet area
Quiet area. Good service. Not so good food and the menu does not necessarily represent what they actually have to offer.
Safe & near destinations
staff very gracious. Food good. Service excellent, But shower was tepid.
Initially had some issues with hot water and no television. Staff was friendly and helpful in changing our room. Laundry service is available and an awesome bonus! Hotel is a little outside the city so prepare to take a bus, taxi, or matatu. ... This can be seen on a map. Surrounding area is beautiful and there is easy access to the national park, giraffe center, and botanical gardens.
Good place to enjoy a quiet rest
Good place to enjoy a quiet rest after the safari in This attractive city. Garden is beautiful, staffs here are polite and kind and helpful. Even the room is small and the facility are not as luxury as it is in 4 star hotel, but it is really worth staying for several nights.
Clean, Quiet, and safe
This little lodge is right near a nice shopping mall with great restaurants. We used their brochure to plan all our sight-seeing events. The places were all very near to the hotel and the taxi drivers were great guides. The place was quiet and clean. Although the furnishings were a little dated, the TV worked and the place was very homey. I'd stay there again.
Great hotel for the price!
Its a small hotel but it is in a great location. Staff was friendly rooms were small but very comfortable and the food was awesome. You aren't going to beat the value of this hotel anywhere! Would definitely stay there again!
It seemed like this place just opened and was not ready for guests, but they did not have power when I arrived, which was a big let down after traveling from the US for over a day. They also didn't have internet for a while, until they got power back and after I asked. Not a bad place, maybe it'll get better with time. The food and service was good!
