The bicycles the hotel provided were not easy to ride. If you plan to ride for the entire day (like we did) rent bikes somewhere else.
Good location, very helpful and kind staff at reception, nice apartment but unfortunately with an ugly view onto the inner yard, farewell olive oil gift, but anyway services are not in line with a 4 star grade- beach just for money, no wellness, no sports possibilities in hotel as an included service, on the roof terrace no shade and no bar, the reception desk has no design it is situated quite hidden in the corner and it looks like as it were in a motel. Max. 3 stars superior grade.
Viareggio vacation
This hotel was fantastic. Service was wonderful. We stayed in the “romance room” which has a plunge pool on the balcony. Easy walk to excellent restaurants
love it!
Absolutely LOVE this place, area and location
Hotel and staff were excellent good buffet breakfast
Amazing room with a jacuzzi and sauna. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay!
Nice large spacious rooms. Very good breakfast options. Classy dining room.
We had a great time, staff was very polite, friendly, and proactive.
Beautiful place
Can’t wait to visit this beautiful hotel. Food was good. Very impressed with the service. They left a nice Easter egg wrapped beautifully. Only thing I was less impressed was limited TV channels in English but was not bothered though.
Staff very kind
very dated rooms looks like belong to the 1970s in the main parts of the hotel the annex is newish but dumped and a fire hazard in our opinion
I really like this hotel - its modern, clean & nice staff. The rooms are big - great for familys - and in an unbeatable location.
Perfection
Nothing but perfect! Perfect location, perfect staff, perfect rooms!! We loved our stay here!!
There was no way this was a superior room, shower was alwful so small you couldn't even move, no television in the other room. Wasn't given any information when we got there about beach etc. Building work going on.
This hotel was amazing! Most delicious breakfast and brunch. Perfect location. Staff was beyond helpful. Would rate it 5 stars
Great staff and great location. We liked the breakfast too.
Hotel was nice but could do with renovating.
This hotel is a little surprise treat for us. The room was clean and spacious. Great proximity to the beach--short walk across the street. Lovely and scenic shopping street along the coast. The hotel lobby is great for late drinks. The staff are all very friendly and accomodating. Best part was dining at the hotel restaurant. Excellent cuisine and the chef even took the time to greet us and asked how we're enjoying our meals. In the morning, breakfast selection was really good. I think I'd like to try and visit this area again sometime on a summer season and stay in this particular hotel.
Excellent
Delighted with this hotel, all very good, would love to stay there again.
Very very good
Friendly. Helpful staff. Great location, steps to the promenade - beach
Parking was offsite, but right out front and very reasonable. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We were early for check-in and our room wasn’t ready yet, so the gentleman at the desk recommended a great restaurant and stored our bags. They were also very pet friendly and welcoming to our old girl. When we went down the next day to head out to the beach, the lovely lady at the desk recommended a pet friendly beach and even called ahead for us. Our stay was made even better by the wonderful housekeeping service! I have stayed very few places that did such an outstanding job every day! We definitely plan to return to Viareggio, and definitely plan to stay here if possible!
Food is very good
Centrally located with friendly staff and service. Spacious rooms. We were granted an early check-in which was very much appreciated.
Good price
Bad quality breakfast. hotel. Old condition. Slow wifi. Little far from central but near to Beach and Restaurant, small room.
Love how clean it was the room and the hotel and unique style. Breakfast -latte was delicious but would be best if they make omelette.
This was a first class base for a week's break of sun, sea and sand from mid-September. All staff very helpful and friendly (coping with good humour with our lack of Italian). Very spacious and comfortable accommodation (we were upgraded from an apartment to a junior suite with sea view - extra facilities were appreciated). Our B&B booking gave us the flexibility either to eat in the hotel in the evening (good restaurant) or sample the many local eating places within easy walking distance. Supermarket not far away for the (relatively few) supplies we needed for the fridge. Very easy access to the (private) bagnos & beach (extra charge of course - booked through the hotel we paid €25 a day). Taxi rank very close to hotel made it easy to get to station for day trips to Siena, Pisa, Lucca.
Beautiful city, perfect hotel....highly recommend.
loved the room size ,and how quiet our room was at the back of the hotel,it is a very old hotel and has been well looked after.
Superb
Perfect trip
The location was perfect for the beach and shopping
They need to do a better job in cleaning the apartments. Also, they did a mistake by booking me something twice and I had to pay the amount. Going the extra mile to satisfy your clients is important, and these kind of things is one of the decisive factors that will make me come back to the same hotels
One of the nicest hotels I stayed at in Italy. Great location - walking distance to all the main beaches and Viareggio marina. Staff were very helpful and courteous. Room was excellent - clean and comfortable, with a great size bathroom. I did not have any meals in hotel as I had meals with clients at other venues.
Staff was super friendly.. helpful and kind Vents in room was filled with dust which was unpleasant.. Breakfast was ok... needed some love Restaurant wasn’t the best & overpriced.. Allergy friendly
Excellent location, good choice of breakfast.
I found it was a 4 star property standard .. My vents in my room were extremely filthy and full of dust .. Restaurant wasn’t the best .. and breakfast could use some love. Staff are extremely friendly
Great location, nice hotel, good staff. They serve good breakfast and have a restaurant open for dinner.
Architecture is beautiful. Impressive lobby, all marble.
Fantastic Beach Retreat
Staff was very friendly and always helpful. Room was spacious, clean, and had a great view of the ocean. Bedding was comfortable. We had a great stay at the beach; hotel has good deals on the beach clubs.
Will come again!
Really kind and friendly staff. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Only downside is there’s no bath and our toddler is scared of showers!
Charming
Charming hotel with good old fashioned service. Close to plenty of eateries. Lovely location
Location is great, rooms are big and freshly refurbished. Breakfast should improve in variety
nice and quite, very near sea front. Staff very good. Breakfast a bit lacking Recommended
Excellent service nice rooms. Quick check in and out. Helpful staff
The staff were excellent, the breakfast was good and the children enjoyed the easy walk to the beach.
Fantastic hotel. Great location
Fantastic hotel. Spent Christmas here and will certainly return. The facilities are excellent and there was even a welcome pack for our little dog. Staff very kind and helpful. Food in restaurant superb and there was everything you could possibly want for breakfast. Great location just off main seafront. Parking very easy.
Staff and location plus being quiet Had heath issues and assistance was great called in house doctor and the care was and is fantastic
Nice hotel close to the beach Clean rooms and friendly staff
Well presented hotel close to the best Viareggio o
Very close to beach and promenade within walking distance of all Viareggios best features. 2km from train station but excellent local taxis take just 5 minutes with train services to all major and minor cities and towns. Only drawback was no air con in room which seemed to heat rather than cool which gave way to open door to balcony and feeding season for the mozzies!!!!. Good breakfast and great food for dinner so all in all a good hotel and well deserving of 4 stars.
Modern and comfortable rooms
Kingdom 7332 Modern and comfortable rooms Review of Hotel Residence Esplanade Reviewed yesterday via mobile I booked two rooms at this hotel one for my parents and one for myself and my sister, upon getting to the hotel they only had one booking, this wasn’t a problem as they only had one room left and upgraded both rooms to a suite for the inconvenience this was most satisfactory. We were opposite the beach and close to all shops, bars and restaurants. Viareggio is quite vast, and seemed quiet for this time of year, it was pleasant. The staff were nice, the breakfast was ok jut the best I’ve had this trip, but all in all it was a good location and I was happy with my stay
Nice original style hotel. Convenient to the lovely beach and promenade. Our room was upgraded, which was lovely. The staff were super, especially on the reception desk, very helpful with train timetables etc. We would definitely return.
Room for improvement
Lovely resort, good hotel. However felt staff could’ve been more helpful. No courtesy showers available on checkout day. Private beach could be improved - not value for money.
Room near private beaches
Very nice hotel across the street from beaches and boardwalk. Had very good time and service was great
Good property overall. Great location and value for money.
Nice hotel close to the beach
I wouldn’t rate this hotel a 4. Perhaps a 3. The only strong remark I would give is the service staff are helpful. This is an old hotel and it shows.
Suite was great! Separate BR for my granddaughter that she loved, except her room didn’t have a TV. Hotel was great at check-in. I had forgotten to take passports from safe in Florence hotel, but luckily had taken pictures of them. They asked for Florence hotel name and luckily accepted the pictures. It would have been terrible not to be able to check in! Restaurant was excellent about providing room service a little earlier than they normally open. Kitchen normally not open until 7:30, which is pretty much when all of the restaurants in the area open for dinner. Not used to the European dinner hours 😁
The Hotel Residence Esplanade is a beautiful property! We stayed for two days after spending the week in Cinque Terre, and it was a very relaxing experience. Our room was a large, family room, which included a sitting area (and extra bed), a bedroom, bathroom and outside deck. For a longer stay, it would have been very comfortable as it had a lot of closet and storage space. The hotel helped us book a beach club for each day, which was an easy and seamless process. For our second evening, we ate outside at the restaurant, and had a delicious meal. The entire hotel staff was very nice and helpful! The location was quite nice, too. It is approximately a mile from the hotel to the large Ferris wheel at the marina, and the walk there took us along the promenade with many beach clubs, restaurants and shops. My family thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Hotel Residence Esplanade in Viareggio.
Hotel Great - Staff excellent
The hotel itself was well positioned, staff were very courteous and helpful. The suite was clean, bright and spacious. The hotel does not have it's own pool or a sunbathing facility but had linked with an ocean-front pool and beach which made a charge for using their facilities. However, there was a lot of these privately-owned facilities and all were of a very high standard. Plenty of extremely good dining options and very good shops are part of the sea-front experience.
Couldn't be Happier with our 2nd Stay
Second time visit and same high quality service at a great price - great location friendly staff throughout out stay always happy to help
no enough for a 4 star hotel, not recomended
Received the worst room ever. Very noise and couldn't sleep at all. Very small toilet not enough for a family room.
Nice hotel with friendly staff
The hotel is a 30 minute walk from the station. Well appointed, very friendly and welcoming staff, rooms clean and excellent choice at breakfast. I have always looked forward to my stay here and never let down.
Staff great. Breakfast was adequate but the evening restaurant was amazing. It was about 20 Mins from Town. The let down was the room. The first we were given whilst spacious was dark and dingy and looked nothing like the photos. The second was slightly better but not like the photos on the website. It's just a bit outdated.
Do not recommend! Definetely not a 4* hotel!
The hotel doesn't look at all like in the pictures, the rooms haven't been refurbished in a long time, the overall conditions are for a 3* hotel. The bathroom was incredibly small. The breakfast was quite scarce and not varied at all. The staff was not always very friendly (but the restaurant staff was nice). For example when my wife was alone with our son in the stroller trying to go down the stairs from the elevator to the reception no one tried to help her although there were 2 men at the front desk. Due to the fact that there are no ramps at the entry in the hotel to the elevator and many stairs, the acces was made through the basement. In the end I feel that I definetely paid too much for an outdated poorely equiped hotel.
Lovely hotel and very close to a beach
Very clean hotel, staff were very friendly and welcoming
The staff was very helpful. Fantastic breakfast. Great service. Wonderful location.
Nice hotel, good location , reasonably priced
Nice hotel, clean, good location, but bee aware of the extra cost if you want to use a pool by the beach.
Very Good Hotel in a Much Loved Distination
Exciting long weekend in a new hotel for us at a much loved resort - have stayed in four hotels in Viareggio and this is one of the best, very good public areas, well presented breakfast, though at busy times there can be a wait for a table. Rooms were well presented though we struggled to get the air conditioning to work. Viareggio itself is an ideal base for rail trips around Tuscany, whilst having its own entertainment in evenings and for leisurely days at the beach
Nice Victorian style elegant hotel
Really nice hotel, vfm and great location......good breakfast.....hotel recommended. Only gripes had to ask for mirror for room?? And pigeon faeces on balcony never cleaned
Nice hotel close to beach / solo traveller
Viabus drops you right next to hotel from airport for just €3.50! Lovely beach and parade of boutiques and eateries. Station to explore other areas like Florence, Lucca and Pisa is 10min bus ride or 30min walk. I done this ! Hotel great for beach holiday with option of exploring too!!! Hotel was exactly like the pictures .
Nice hotel, lacks facilities and 'what to do' info
Hotel is ideally placed for the beach front and to walk up and down the promenade.
Good Hotel near the Beach
Friendly staff, decent breakfast, nice room near the beach. All good
The suite is good but the beds are poor
Lovely hotel, very friendly staff
This is the third time I have stayed at this hotel, and the room and food quality, friendliness of staff has always been excellent. The hotel is 20 minutes walk from the station located on the road adjacent to the beach. This time I was located on the fourth floor in what could be described as a self catering room, with cooker and fridge. The room was slightly on the small size but more than adequate for me. The shower was compact but worked well. The room was immaculately clean. The breakfast is a feast to be seen and enjoyed. What more can I say, other than I thoroughly enjoyed my stay again.
The hotel is very outdated. The pictures on this website look better than it is. The shower is ridiculously small. The hotel was in a good location. Not sure if I would stay here again. I think I would try to find a nicer hotel next time
Viareggio hotel
Good hotel in good location, freidly and helpful staff.
Pillows were awful, we didn't sleep well at all.
Wonderful area, close to Pisa. Because we stayed there in October, low season, lots of restaurants were closed. The breakfast was very limited but adequate if you stay for only a few days, after one week we had enough of it. The best part of our stay was cycling on the front beach, a long nice and flat cycling path and also through the big parks and forests behinf the hotel and after the port.
Top notch.
Two nights to chill out at the end of a trip.
I hired a mobility scooter for my stay and staff were very helpful with storage etc. All the staff were polite and very helpful throughout my stay.
Chose this hotel after reading reviews and was near enough as described. Arrived for 4 nights in this quiet side of Vereggio in October after addending a Wedding in Sienna . Hotel kindly upgraded us to room for 3 as Superia double not big enough for cot . Room satisfied our needs was modern , clean with tiny balcony. Staff very nice especially Pasquelle who made my stay comfortable. Good location for Pisa by train only 20 mins even Florance 1hr 50mins day trip was manageable for 2 just under 20 euros , Taxis very expensive in Italy ! All in all Esplanade Hotel pleasant to stay and great value , would consider returning if ever I was in this beautiful part of Italy again.
Close to the beach, great restaurants, close to Pisa. Had an awesome time, look forward to going there again.
Very nice hotel.
This is a very nice hotel. We chose a room with a balcony but not one with a sea view as that was over the road so I thought it might be a bit noisey. I shouldn't have worried though because the hotel had excellent black out shutters which cut out outside noise. The hotel is one of the old hotels from a bygone era and therefore thick walls meant no internal hotel noise either. There was also free wifi and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The pillows could have been softer but that seems to be the thing in Italian hotels. The room was a double with sofa bed and a balcony at the back. Very nice and spacious, good air con and very clean, good bed and nice decor. The TV didn't have all the English speaking channels but who goes to Italy to watch TV. The staff were lovely- we couldn't get the safe to work and they were straight out to fix it. Also, we rolled up the black out shutter too much one day and they were straight out to fix that too. The breakfast was nice. I read the reviews prior to booking and thought that the criticism of the coffe machine was a bit picky but guess what, it wasn't- they really should upgrade it. And if that is the only criticism of the hotel, how good is that! It's right in the front without being right on the front (I imagine those hotels would be noisy. It's close to all of the seafront amenities. Hotels in this location are a bit of a trek from the railway station.
Clean and friendly hotel
The hotel has an excellent location and the rooms was spacious and clean, there was no noise and the staff where friendly and very helpful. The complimentary breakfast was good enough to set you up for the day, all of which meant we had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The only down side is that because it did not have a pool or a sunbathing area we had to pay to go on the private beaches which did turn out expensive (20 euro per day, in the busy period it can be as much as 40 euro per day). But that aside I would recommend the hotel to anyone.
Good location but had to pay extra for beach.
All beach in area private with absolutely no access otherwise. An extra cost! Evening GB meals nice but poor breakfast. Public area in hotel nice but very small.
Hotel Residence Esplanade Via Reggio - very good
Bar man was very friendly. Front desk staff were very helpful.
Great friendly staff.
This hotel is within spitting distance of the promenade. Plenty of facilities nearby and bikes out front to use if youre a bit lazy or dont want to walk. Parking is at a bit of a premium with a lack of spaces out front at certain times. On our trip we were quite lucky but if you try and park at the wrong time youve got no chance. There is also a 7 Euro fee for parking out front. The breakfast in the morning was so-so, although this is maybe down to my personal preference. There was usually plenty of food about, albeit sometimes cold. (Scrambled eggs and bacon) In summary, the staff at the hotel are really friendly and go out of their way to help you and provide you with assistance. They truly are a credit to the place.
It's an apartment hotel
I wouldn't call it hotel, it's more apartment hotel. It pretty old and outdated, however it's more the what you need for a small town like viareggio. Hotel staff are helpful and friendly. Breakfast is very very basic. Nothing bad to report, or mention.
Upgraded for free!
We stayed here for a week and were told on arrival we'd been upgraded to a suite, giving us a sea view, balcony and lounge area! The staff were lovely and helpful and the breakfast was good!
Short "summer" break
Booked a four night stay from 31st May to 4th June. Unfortunately it rained every day (hotel provided umbrellas). The hotel and staff were excellent as was the room. The restaurant offered very good, but pricey food which was not hot enough. Viareggio has excellent train links to Lucca, Pisa and Florence costing 3.50 euros to 9.00 euros. Buy your ticket from an automatic machine (very easy to use) and VALIDATE using another machine close by. We didn't realise until the last trip. You can get fined if you don't! One fantastic modern Italian restaurant only a 5 minute walk away, used by lots of locals. The hotel is a little bit away from any other good restaurants. As is the Italian way, the beach, and there is alot of it, is taken up by private enterprises that own most of it. You can pay up to 45 euros per day for one sunbed and two chairs. You do get access to extremely clean facilities, a pool and their own large beach area. Viareggio has plenty of parking but it costs. The hotel sells passes at around 6 euros a day but you can only park in area B and there are at least three different areas. Wouldn't go back but we don't tend to revisit places anyway.
Beautiful hotel close to the beach
Good value for money. Great breakfast, very various.
Great place to stay for Carnival
Great place to stay and celebrate Carnival. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are large and comfy.
Friendly hotel
I booked this hotel at the very beginning of the holiday season. So you might expect the service to be reduced. But the opposite is true. The friendliness of staff, facilities, room and hotel cleanliness, quality of food, and accommodation was beyond what I would expect during the season. I have no criticism of the hotel at all. I had an excellent stay. The only problem I had going at the time of year I picked (March 14-18) is that there are few restaurants open as it is still the close season. Weather was very good, warm sunshine with temperatures in the low mid teens. Viareggio is an excellent base for a holiday and Florence, Lisa can be reached by train from the station which is a 30 minute walk from the hotel..
Nice hotel near the beach
Large, modern, clean room - really more like a small apartment. Separate TVs and air controls in living and bedrooms. Very comfy bed! Highly recommend!
Isolated location, in need of some TLC
Originally we booked here as we had planned to drive, however change in plans meant that we were relying on public transport. Beware this hotel has a no cancellation policy which was annoying considering how early we had booked. Elegant in its day, the Grand Mediterranee, needs some TLC to bring it back to standard. Over powering smoke smell in corridors.
Lovely hotel near to beach
Excellent choice, hotel at the nicer end of Viareggio beach. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was quite a surprise as it consisted of two rooms, a bedroom plus a lounge area with another large TV and between the two rooms was a large wardrobe with safe etc. Very nice bathroom, looked recently decorated with power shower. Breakfast had a good choice and was regularly re-stocked as items were used. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay her and would definitely return.
At little break to viareggio
Fine hotel. Many places to visit Pisa, Lucca, Cinque Terre. At this time at the year you can walk a long trip at the Beach.
Nice hotel - reasonably good location
Hotel was fine for price, although think it was just a little bit too far away from the centre and train station for our needs. Otherwise no complaints. Especially liked the 2 bedrooms. Hotel staff were nice enough.
Good hotel with excellent room facilities.
Viareggio carnival is amazing. Don't do what we did and arrive on night of the carnival - drove round for two hours to find a parking space! We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment: comfortable beds; safety deposit box; fridge; air-conditioned with a small balcony. (View over courtyard.) Staff are very helpful. Train station nearby to Pisa, Florence and Siena.
Great location
Awesome, gorgeous hotel close to everything!! About 20 min walk from train station & 2 min to beach, shops, & food. Great breakfast & wonderful service! TINY shower but suite with balcony made up for it! Expect to pay for beach services but concierge has great suggestions. Would stay here again.
Lovely hotel and staff, great to be so close to the beach!
