No one is very helpful. Restaurant isn’t good. Pool is nice views are amazing. I’d stay somewhere else in the area next time. NO ENGLISH!!!
Love this property, decorations, views, and swimming pools. It’s difficult to drive to it and staff has to be contacted to get in and out the gate. No elevators and can be gnarly negotiating all the outdoor steps, twists, and turns.
Hotel has a Spectacular view of the sea. It's on a hill and the hotel doesn't provide a transportation, neither they arrange a transportation for you, so unless you have a car you are on feet dragging your luggage up or down hill for quite a distance. Good luck!
Beautiful hotel, friendly and helpful staff. No toiletries in the bathroom.
Perfect location at Hotel Rec de Palau
My children and I stayed at the Hotel Rec de Palau in July and it was perfect. We stayed in a suite with access to the upper pools. It was a very comfortable room in an exquisite location. The staff were friendly and helpful whether helping with directions or taking a step to make our stay more comfortable. The dining room is a very unique space with lots of interesting nautical themes - not to mention a yummy breakfast and idyllic view for a pre-dinner glass of wine. A short (somewhat steep) walk from the hotel you'll find a range of restaurants, shops and lovely beaches. We'll be back.
The room was good but the way window is on the terrace of the cafe tables so not ideal for sleeping after 7 am
The facility is beautiful, make no mistake. There is construction on the ocean view side of the suites, which is a negative. The real problem is day of arrival. You have to navigate up a windy driveway, and pass through a closed gate. The disconnect here is that there is no signage OUTSIDE the gate with instructions on how to gain access (the instructions are on the INSIDE of the gate, which is of no use to the person coming for the first time). I had to jump the wall and run up the rest of the serpentine driveway to get to reception. In reception, I got lip service from the indifferent attendant. This issue notwithstanding, the hotel and the city are beautiful.
Fantastic views. Excellent staff. Highly recommend
One thing that is lovely about the hotel and in particular from the balcony room, is the view of Cadaques. Everything else about the hotel was very disappointing and I don’t consider myself terribly picky. The room was very small and had no amenities (no shampoo, soap, etc). The dinner we ordered was more like a snack with bread on one plate and anchiovies on another for 18 Euros. The breakfast was very basic and I would recommend going somewhere in town for all meals. The bed made so much noise when anyone moved and so we were awakened all night. We also asked for laundry service for our clothes (15 euros for the load, not bad) but they never did it. We chose to forgo our second night even though we couldn’t get our money back and stayed somewhere else. It looked like a wonderful place to stay but it just didn’t measure up at all - Very disappointing.
The staff were kind and helpful. The room and facilities far exceeded our expectations. View from the room was phenomenal. We would highly recommend a stay at this wonderful hotel.
This hotel was spectacular. Room amazing (we had a terrace with a small pool with only a few rooms sharing). Staff excellent. Dinner at the restaurant excellent with an amazing view of the beach and harbour! Well worth staying!
This was an amazing day. The staff was lovely. The food was great. And the facilities next level peaceful. I’m looking to see when we can come back already.
Lovely views, nice balcony from room, great pools. The proper address should be provided upfront because it is hard to find from town.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here, but there are some negatives and some aspects that potential guests need to consider. Location and Aspect: hotel is located a moderate walk from the village centre, compounded by a steep and long walk up a driveway. This is fine if you walk a lot and are quite fit. If not, best to stay here if you have a car. An awful smell came into our room #10 at night - at first we thought it was the strong fragrance from the reed diffusers, but it became much worse when we removed them on our second night. We did not complain directly as the hotel has a few maintenance issues overall (driveway condition, creaky pool decking in need of attention) and has generally seen better days. Lack of in-room tea and coffee facilities are another minus, and our stay would have been a little more comfortable with these available. Good mini-fridge, good shower. The Good: Hotel staff were very helpful and personable. Included breakfast was basic, and a cooked breakfast very reasonable priced and served quickly. The great: The view from our balcony (and breakfast area) was spectacular, and helped our three-night stay to be an overall wonderful experience in this magical village. Would recommend you contact the Hotel before booking to check if the smell issue has been sorted out or if you can request a room that does not suffer from this problem. Swimming pool absolutely immaculately clean.
Great view and nice rooms
Great hotel, with beautiful view of Cadaquès.
No privacy
This property is very nice and has a beautiful view. The pools are fantastic. We are two breakfast options to choose from, ham sandwich and a piece of toast with jam for 10 euros each person. We were told there were other options but that was not the case. Parking is at the property for 10 euros nightly or at the bottom of a winding hill for free. The drive and walk to the property is uphill and not convenient to anything. There is no elevator but they were nice to assist with getting luggage upstairs. The staff are very nice ! You can hear every single thing from your room, inside and outside noise and the bed is particularly hard. Great staff and beautiful views. Just not what we hoped for !
Charming location, with great views on the bay and village. You need to go up the hill (by car or by foot) but it's worth it. I recommend staying in one of the 3 bungalows. It is very special as you feel close to the environment and have the view to yourself. Since I extended my stay I also got to sleep one night in one of the hotel standard rooms and it was nice to spend some time in the living room (decorated with taste and spirit) and the terrace for breakfast. The personnel was very nice and helpful. The general atmosphere quiet and relaxing. I would love to come back!
Perfect experience
Unique property in great location, super friendly and helpful staff
Beautiful views and hotel, but budget amenities
This hotel is on a hill overlooking the bay, and has fabulous views. The buildings and the landscaping are also very lovely. We stayed in a large room (#12) with a huge terrace overlooking the pool, with wide views of the bay behind. Beautiful. But the weird thing about this hotel is that it follows a “low cost” model on amenities. For the price we paid, plus the building and the landscaping and the view, we expected the amenities of a three-star hotel: small bottles of shampoo, bath gel, etc., a coffeemaker or teakettle in the room, a decent buffet breakfast (even if charged separately), etc. Instead, what we got was a cheap soap and shampoo dispenser mounted on the wall, a public toilet-style toilet paper dispenser, no coffeemaker or tea kettle, and a buffet breakfast with no hot food or even hard-boiled eggs (for the main dish they offer you a sandwich), plus possibly the worst button-machine coffee that I’ve ever had. The disconnect was stark. You’re in a luxurious-looking hotel but they’ve got budget-hotel amenities. We couldn’t enjoy a coffee or tea out on our terrace with that amazing view. We used our own products instead of the stuff in their dispensers (which was clearly selected for its price alone). And we only ate the buffet breakfast one day, because it simply wasn’t worth the price they charge for it. But if you don’t mind bringing all your own amenities, the views are incomparable.
Booked a superior bungalow at $170 in shoulder season which should be a terrific room. What we got was the worst room I have ever ever had. We booked several others in the area and had wonderful rooms for less. It was very difficult to find on narrow winding roads and we arrived late or we would have bailed. The room had no number, bed bugs, an unusable shower due to cracks and the faucet and handles above our reach, mildew, a faucet that was not properly attached to the sink, outdated old uncomfortable furnishings, and a bed crammed up against a wall. The property was a total rip-off.
the room was very plain and there were no fans or AC to keep the room cool at night. We could leave the windows open, but it brought in a lot of bugs and I couldn’t sleep all night because I was bitten all night by mosquitoes. Even with the windows close, bugs still manage to get in. Spoke to the receptionist and she just asked us to wait for it to rain. On the website, they also state breakfast is included but it’s not true. It’s paid. Hate this hotel, will never return again
Cadaques is a beautiful romantic fishing village and is the ideal location to disconnect and relax! We absolutely loved being here. Angeles and her staff made us and my wife's family that just stopped by to visit feel at home. They were very warm, accommodating, helpful and hospitable. Our only regret is that we had to leave this lovely and memorable place. We will be visiting and staying here again!!!
Stinky and scary
Hotel Rec de Palau has an amazing view of Cadaques but we were disappointed with our experience. Upon arrival we were told we'd received an 'upgrade' to a room with a terrace. We noticed that there were very few other guests, the pool wasn't ready to be swum in but we wrote this off as we were visiting at the start of the high season. The hotel itself is old and in the process of being renovated. When we entered our room we were hit with a very bad smell, something we thought might've been due to the fact that it had been closed up all winter. We left the windows open for several hours which alleviated some of the smell. We then found that the sliding door in the front bedroom didn't lock at all, and after having a shower, realised that this caused heavy flooding across the bathroom floor. We were concerned for our safety due to the door not locking and in the morning we woke to the strong smell again. When we asked to be moved we were accommodated and the second room had been renovated and was much better, however we were a little scared from our first 24 hours, hence the poor review. The wifi was also terrible.
Beautiful setting.
We were upgraded on arrival to a fantastic room with a magnificent view. We chose Cadaques as an unspoilt part of Costa Brava coastline and it was beautiful. The hotel staff were very helpful. There was a fridge in the room which is always handy. We stayed for 3 nights to chill out after a hectic stay in Barcelona. It was perfect. The hotel is beautiful. There is a steep climb up to it, but this didn't bother us too much.
Comfortable accomodation. Parking is a little too tight for me but was convenient. There was a lingering bad odor apparently from the kitchen sink. The view of the bay and Cadaques was unbelievable. Breakfast outstanding!!!!
Oh goodness. I loved this place so much! The photos were pretty but upon arrival, I realized we were in for an unexpected special stay. This place made us feel so relaxed and remote, although the 10 min walk down to the town was easy and we could quickly jump in to a fun shop or restaurant when we wanted. Can’t wait to return!
The hotel was in the middle of remodeling, we got an unremodeled room that could use some repairs. Other than that, the grounds were charming, people friendly and location was breath taking!
The hotel is delightfully quirky, and beautifully kept.
very good ! but where is the swimming pool than we see on the picture ? this is not the same pool !!
Cadaques is a Beautiful place . This hotel maintains the essence and beauty of such. I highly recommend it. No better hotel in the are, I mean it. Enjoy
Understaffed hotel without any English speakers
You can enjoy this hotel if you know how to speak Spanish. Unfortunately, in our experience, we constantly had to deal with staff who couldn't speak a word of English. Entire hotel had a total of 3 employees (there could be more, but we didn't see anyone else). They worked at the reception, the restaurant and did some of the cleaning as well. Although they seemed like friendly people, we had trouble with very basic things as getting an extra pillow, ordering an omelette or figuring out what they offer for breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, it ends at 10 am and you cannot even get a tea after this time. Even if you go to breakfast on time (say 9:30), you may not be able to eat anything because you cannot order food as you cannot find a waitress. If you try to go to the kitchen yourself, they kick you out speaking in Spanish. So the language barrier is really no joke. We stayed in the most expensive suite. We had the feeling that it was a nice suite when the hotel was first built. But the state we stayed in was a mess. They had the cheapest plastic tables on the terrace, cheap plastic shower curtains although the bathroom had a shower and a bath tub, wall paintings were falling apart everywhere and various signs (ie no smoking) were printed on paper taped to the walls. My overall feeling was that the owner of the hotel left management to the 3 employees and disappeared.
Not at all a cookie cutter hotel
Loved this quirky hotel high atop a hill overlooking Cadeques. Great exercise walking up and down the hill, tho you can also drive as there is parking available. Had a lovely little spacious bungalow with great views and three terraces. The main hotel is old and very interesting and aesthetically appealing. Pools wasn’t open yet but looked beautiful. Nice breakfast included. Would love to stay there longer!
Très très bien
Très très bien Petit déjeuner léger
Cadre exceptionnel
Hotel with a View!
Beautiful place with great and friendly staff. Amazing views.
Cuidado.
Very nice place with beautiful view and very friendly staff.
The hotel is very charming, rooms are functionals
Habitaciones impecables y personal excelente.

The patience in finding this gem in the narrow one way streets of Cadaques paid off big time, as the final climb to the top of the hill has the most rewarding views of the seaside village. Friendly staff, great room, simple breakfast gets you ready to explore Dali land ! Can’t imagine how fun the pools must be in summer.
