We had a wonderful stay at Piccolo - excellent staff who went out of their way to assist us with everything and a great location. The private terrace above the bay is a magic spot to relax at after a morning spent in Portofino.
Lovely hotel. Stunning vistas. Warm and friendly staff. Outstanding food for dinners and breakfasts. I stayed at this hotel in 1987 for my honeymoon and again in 1998 for our 10 yr anniversary. Coming back now - 25 years later - I had some trepidation — but it wasn’t warranted. It was actually better than I remembered. Can’t say enough about the facility and staff. It was fabulous and worth every penny!!
Great location and amazing views make up for outdated room.
Hotel was amazing the view the balcony all what we wanted, room is a bit tight but extremely well located and service was excellent!
It's a beautiful hotel and very well run. Excellent dining and all of the staff very friendly and helpful.
The Perfect Spot
Phenomenal spot with magnificent views and a private beach area of rock terraces. Exceptional breakfast.
Wonderful stay! The staff was gracious and accommodating. The view from our room was spectacular!
great location and a beautiful hotel
Room has no good window
So beautiful. Staff were extremely helpful. Excellent location.
Great location, but felt that the property was not in the best shape for the prices we paid.
Excellent Stay
Very beautiful property, excellent staff and location
Nice views
Fabulous terrace room - we had dinner there
Good location
Interior needs to be gutted and redone as a better designed and furnished hotel. The best thing about it is the location and very efficient staff.
Excellent location and a 5 minute walk to the center of town. The views are spectacular
Our stay
The location of the hotel is wonderful. I was a little taken back by the interior of the hotel. A lot of black walls with dark marble floors. Very difficult seeing the steps in the staircase. My room didn’t have lights working - not burned out bulbs, but broken parts. Very hard to put on makeup in a bathroom with out mirror lights. It had a small light above the toilet. We paid for a terrace. Our terrace had chairs but no cushions - just wooden lounge chairs (every other terrace had nice cushions for comfort) also all terraces had beautiful bright flower boxes mine….dead dried up flower boxes 😕. But, the location is great.
This hotel is a dream and secluded away Service is impeccable and prices are very reasonable you can lunch and drink for around 30 euros per person with outstanding views we celebrated 20th anniversary there and was very happy
Dirty Hotel
The hotel is situated in a very nice “mini-bay” and has access to a wonderful stone beach. Unfortunately the room was very dirty and unacceptable for. 4-star and the price you pay (see photos). When we checked-out we complained to the manager who didn't even offer an apology and/or discount. Cleanliness is a top priority for all of us, so stay way from here.
Our room & view from our large terrace overlooking the beach was fantastic. Swimming down at the beach lovely and refreshing. A pleasant easy walk to Portofino village, shops & restaurants.
This is an amazing hotel. The view from our room was amazing. Staff is awesome and I would definitely stay here again if I ever go back to Portofino. The breakfast was awesome. Hotel is so close from the city center. The hikes leasing from the hotel are amazing. Definitely one of the best place i have stayed in. The staff is super friendly and helpful. we traveled with our one year old and the staff accommodated us the best possible way they could. Again 5 stars for the staff and 5 stars for the property.
Very chic boutique hotel. Just loved the design and the 2 floors. Room a tad small but the decor made up for it.
The ocean views were great. The restaurant had very good food and all the staff were quite attentive.
This is a remarkable waterfront location right on the Italian riviera. Easy, comfortable walk to the shops and tourist venues (5-10 min) and a one-of-a kind beach venue. Also right on the trails for hiking up into the Portofino Regional Park area behind the townsite and to neighboring communities such at San Fruttuoso and Santa Margherita. A boutique-style hotel in a premium locations. Highly recommend.
The staff was extrenely nice and available. The views were great, as was the private beach snd lounge area. Good location. Would definitely stay here again!
Good location with nice view
Our room is small but has nice view over the water. This hotel doesn’t have kettle for making hot tea and you have to ring the reception for pot of hot water.
Very nice staff. Our breakfast was delicious!!! The view from our room was just perfect!
Loved loved loved it here. Can’t say enough. It is a perfect property. Best hotel I stayed at in Italy. Loved the beach access that was private. Location and view is excellent. Will come back again and again. Only thing I didn’t like was that the hotel didn’t have pizza on their menu.
Perfect hotel!!! Super location and 5* service!!!!
Do not stay at this hotel as a family. Rooms for families are very small so you end being very crammed to the point there is no room for your luggage.
Everything was absolutely wonderful! Location is great. View is fantastic. Food is great.
Fantastic location with great views but hotel is dated and tired room with bed located up a winding staircase.
Rooms are a bit dated but location is ideal and staff is great. Private terrace at beach cannot be beat. Best location in Portofino!
I would give 8/10 for this stay.
It was pretty good staying there. The location is good. The view from my room is great. More light in the room and renovated bathroom would be perfect. Breakfast served salmon was good.
Extraordinary views, comfortable room, delicious breakfast options
Unbelievable view and location, best place to stay in Portofino
The location is lovely and has outstanding views, and a very nice private sun area, but you have to be careful when walking out of the front of the hotel as there is no pavement, and our room on the first floor was very noisy with road traffic early in the morning and late at night. The hotel also charges for car parking. The décor inside is very depressing with a poor attempt at a boutique style, with black and grey heavy painted walls. A buffet style breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of food available, the evening dinner was of a very high quality, and beautifully presented. We complained of being "bitten" during the night but the staff seemed uninterested, on our return to the UK these were confirmed as bites from bed bugs, we emailed the hotel of this but did not get a reply.
A wild night at the seaside:
We had decided after 50 years of marriage to take a second short honeymoon. Portofino on the coast of Italy beckoned and we found a "berth" in the Hotel PICCOLO. After we were collecting a new kitten from Genoa. We arrived in San Margherita Ligure during a heavy squall. Rainwater was pouring down streets and cascading from water spouts. The wind was blowing at hurricane force. But we persevered to the ROAD BLOCK. The storm abated about 5.00 o'clock when we were allowed through to the Hotel. Reception was excellent and we were shown to our room. The storm regenerated and the wind howled as hailstones rattled our windows. We went down to dinner but due to the storm the menu was restricted and there was no red wine. The staff were helpful but under the circumstances could only provide what was available. Part way through dinner the electricity failed. We were unable to do anything but go to bed climbing stairs to the 3rd floor. The following morning at breakfast we were informed the road had been swept away in the night's storm and there was no way out for the car. Possibly for months!!!. We were told that we could stay at the hotel free of charge until we could leave on a ferry for San Margherita Ligure. THe coastguard provided the "ferry". The hotel was helpful but left us near the point of "embarcation" and took the car off to the garage. We finaly managed to reach home after 10 hours travelling.
Fantastic view, friendly staff, very accommodating, I have difficulty walking any distance more than a block and staff provided me with transportation for the short trip to the village. They couldn't be nicer! Good breakfast, and had dinner at hotel restaurant three times, each time was excellent, more hotel guests should discover the restaurant for dinner, delicious risotto with scallops, excellent grilled fresh fish, very good pasta vongole. Hope to return soon.
Great location, view and neat
Fantastic in every way
Stunning
Simply amazing, the rooms are clean And spacious. The see view is incredible. Would stay there again for sure
This was our third visit to the Piccolo. It keeps getting better! The staff are superb and very quick to help. I injured my foot one day and unable to walk. An off er bring a dinner to our room
Stay in Santa Margherita!
Surly reception staff, all male, several clearly found the intrusion of guests into their space was a nuisance. Requesting coffee to a room terrace was greeted by every excuse - you can have a drink here or there, on the beach, the order was taken in bad grace then only two drinks brought up for four people! The deliverer then blamed us for only ordering two drinks. Other points - rooms seem to feature cramped bathrooms, hard industrial “carpets”. Large prices due to positioning but some aspects of a low quality hotel. However breakfast was good! Visiting Portofino? It’s a very beautiful spot which you can visit by boat.
The hotel is located in a quiet area with beautiful views of the water. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We took advantage of the private beach - it was a really nice featuee of the hotel.
Great location. Friendly helpful staff. Dinner at hotel was amazing.
Is a very small hotel with great lovely staff. The down side is what they advertised and the reality. We paid for 4 beds and we had a uncomfortable sofa bed and a double bed.
Nice hotel, just a short walking distance from the main piazzetta in Portofino. The hotel overlooks a lovely little bay, with sunbathing terraces and a small beach. My problem, however, was the view we had from our room (which cost us 650 Euros for 2 nights). We were put in room 104 (a standard room). However, our windows looked out on a 25ft wall that towered above us, sapping any daylight from getting in the room! There was a terrace (with no furniture to sit out on) which guests staying in the rooms above used for flicking their cigarette butts down onto. Very very disappointing for a 4 star hotel at such an expensive rate for such a (sub)standard room. Would not stay here again.
Dont waste your money
Pretty dirty room. Bathroom was old, too small an dirty as well. Room has a very cheap carpet that looks like that never was cleaned. It also has a 15 inches tv without cable. Furtniture was also cheap. And all of this for a suite that costs 800 euros
Short walk to Portofino
Lovely hotel and the most beautiful place we have been. Hotel was great and staff very helpful. Would recommend to others.
Wonderful hotel!
Portofino perfect
Thoroughly enjoyable two night stay. Excellent location. Really enjoyed lying out in the small cove area exclusive to the hotel. Highly recommendable.
Excellent location. Short 10 mins walk to Portofino on a walking path that goes right behind the hotel. Rooms are very nice and a comfortable stop for the traveler.
We would definitely return!
Easy to find using the bus, as we didn’t have a car, and I wouldn’t recommend driving here anyway as the streets are very narrow! the staff at the hotel were fantastic, and really made our stay memorable. Try and get a sea view room if you can as it’s lovely to face the ocean view of Portofino rather than the back streets.
Great hotel, perfect location. Easy walk to Portofino. Hotel was very clean and spacious room.
This was an amazing place! The location is something most people dream about! The view from our room was breathtaking!! We would definitely stay here again!!
Serene Location
For the price a really lovely comfortable stay! Not high end but still a lovely boutique style! Gorgeous views. We had two balconies and views from both were stunning! Close to main hub (about 10 min walk), Awesome, friendly and helpful staff! Breakfast staff were also amazing and the food was of a very high standard. Lovely view overlooking water while having breakfast. Highly recommend!
Romantic stay
Fabulous hotel in a great location
Fantastic location - good value.
The man who greeted me at my car had a great warm smile that made me feel very welcome. Stunning surroundings.
Beautiful hotel overlooking stunning bay.
Beautiful hotel 5 minutes easy walk down a beautiful paved path to town of Portofino. Great views from hotel and along the walk. Room was very clean and a great size, bed was comfy and facilities were good except we had no wifi in our room, only in reception. Staff were really friendly and very helpful and packed us a breakfast to go because we had to leave early. We also received a room upgrade on arrival. Thank you Hotel Piccolo.
Not in winter
Portofino in November - pouring with rain when we arrived. Good welcome, but then we discovered that the hotel (4 stars) had no bar or restaurant. Free wifi but it did not work in the room. Large room, but small bathroom with little space for our toiletries. No magnifying mirror. Excellent breakfast. So a bizarre mixture of positive and negative. No doubt better in Summer.
Great location and super staff
A lovely hotel in a super location 5 mins from harbour. It has its own private cove which is a treat. Generous sized room and everywhere was clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. A very good quality breakfast with an excellent selection. A super hotel.
Amazing View
The view from our room was breathtaking, I didn't see another hotel that would have this view. Couch and chair cushion had dirt spots. The staff was very helpful with transportation arrangements.
Lovely hotel with amazing views.
The hotel location was perfect. Short walk to portofino. The beach below was s nice surprise. Across the street from the hotel. It had but had lounge chairs and we enjoyed a bottle of wine in the evening. Hotel staff were very friendly and service was great. The breakfast buffet was well stocked and the waiters were attentive and fun! Definitely a good place to stay. Good value overall.
Beautiful stay and location
Really lovely hotel in a great location - breakfast was amazing, and the sun-lounge area and secluded beach were brilliant. Very short walk to the Splendido for drinks - no need for a shuttle unless you're struggling to walk.
Great hotel in Portofino
This was our second time staying at this hotel. The room was small but comfortable and the price was very good. It is a short walk to the center of Portofino. The hotel has a private beach which is rocky but very nice.
Service is excellent
Wonderful stay in portofino. The staff was excellent and breakfast delicious. Only downside was wifi was only available in the lobby and rooms were worn out.
This was an exceptional place to stay in Portofino
This was an exceptional place to stay in Portofino. Parking taken care of by the staff for 18euros. Staff is very friendly and spoke English well. Just a five minute walk down the red carpet to the harbor and best of all a private cove for swimming in the sea including lounge chairs and umbrellas and lunch service there as well. The room was clean and modern. This was our "splurge" for our Italian holiday and we found it well worth the money. You will love it!
Nice hotel
The hotel was wonderful. That said, I am not sure I would choose Portofino again as a place to stay because it's a bit pretentious and expensive. A better option might be nearby Santa Margherita with a trip to Portofino. The hotel was expensive, but that's what you pay in Portofino. Beautiful room, beautiful balcony, helpful staff and wonderful location (if one chooses to be in Portofino). We liked the little beach across the way.
Beautiful Setting with Friendly Staff
We had a room with a beautiful view of the bay, the staff were all very helpful and friendly and the restaurant served excellent food at a reasonable price, considering we were in Portofino.
Lovely with beach
Nice beach, great view and Centrally located. Quiet room
One night stay
We wanted to stay longer, but they were booked. The room was small according to US standards, but very clean. Staff were friendly and they had beautiful views! Will definitely go back and stay there again.
Would love to stay here again!
The photos and description of the hotel on Hotels.com are accurate. Its location is superb - just a short walk into Portofino but set near its own beautiful little cove and beach. Parking in Portofino is difficult and expensive so we thought that €18 for the hotel car park was very reasonable, though they operate a sort of valet service off site and it's slightly inconvenient not to have access to the car. Having seen the prices in the Portofino restaurants, we decided to give the hotel restaurant a try for dinner, and were glad we did. Breakfast was good too, with a generous selection of quality foods (including made-to-order smoothies from their smoothie menu). Our room was spacious, modern and pleasant, with a lovely, comfortable super king size bed. It was at the back of the hotel, so no sea view, but that was fair enough as we got something of a bargain price through Hotels.com. Everything was immaculately clean. The staff - reception, restaurant staff and cleaners - couldn't have been pleasanter or more helpful. Several reviewers have complained about the wifi. Maybe they've upgraded it or maybe our room was just in a good spot, but the wifi was fine. Our only grumble: the aircon in the bedroom was very fierce (and quite noisy) and didn't respond when we changed the controls during the night; it was too cold for sleeping with the aircon on, and too hot with it off. If we'd been staying longer, I would have asked the staff to do something about it.
Very nice hotel with private beach!
The staff was very friendly and helpful with whatever we requested. The room and view was so nice. What impressed us the most was the dining. The breakfast was over-the-top fantastic and the staff was outstanding! They catered to your every wish. The best part of our hotel was where it was located. Five minutes from the Portofino harbor and about 20 minutes to Santa Margarita Ligure by bus. Most impressive was the private beach. All I can say is, incredible incredible incredible! Will definitely want to go back.
Sea view room or nothing, it's stunning
Amazing view, great reception service, comfortable room, brilliant location.
Amazing location
The hotel is located in an awe inspiring location in Portofino with a private beach and beach terrace that is beyond words.
Great Location.
The hotel was extremely good the only negative comment was that the eggs and bacon were cold almost icy on all three days. Apart from that the meal was very good and ticked all the boxes!!!! Security at the back entrance appeared to be non existent.
Clean, modern hotel; unusual room layout
Stayed 2 nights. First night in room at back that was a triangle; no electrical outlets in bathroom nor near any mirrors. We complained (told us they had 3 rooms with this problem) and were moved to a rectangular room with a view for the 2nd night. Shower was smaller in the 2nd room, and had no shelf at all for soap or shampoo. That was a bit inconvenient. Lighting in both rooms was inadequate. Mid-November is not a great time to go--a bit cold, many places closed, ferry not operating.
Great location for the price
Great location , just short walk to port.
Conviniet and very clean hotel!
The Hotel was perfectly located, service was great, food was good. Very convenient parking... Highly recommend... Awesome.... The view was outstanding... and very Friendly Staff ! We definitely repeat this place for sure ! Also has a private beach
I would not recommend this hotel
Check-in was difficult as there is no way to pull up to hotel directly since its on the bend of a 2-way narrow street. I had to pull into a tight parking space about 300-500 feet past the hotel and unload my luggage and walk along the narrow busy road back to hotel. The porter helped us and then took my car to park it offsite down the road, which means the car is not readily accessible. Hotel is really small and wifi was ONLY available in the Lobby, but the Internet was poor at best. The room was small and the bathroom tiny. The tv was a small computer monitor size with 2 English speaking channels. Even if you use the elevator, you still have to pull your luggage up and down several steps. The complimentary breakfast was good and the staff were friendly
Some things falsely advertised
We felt there was a bit of false advertising. Considering how much rooms cost, we would have liked the advertised amenities to be more accurate: 1. High-speed internet was more like limited access Wi-Fi that is only intermittently accessible in the main lobby 2. The restaurant in the hotel did not serve lunch as advertised 3. The hotel did not have a bar 4. The television stopped working our second day there We do recognize that there was a storm and that we probably wouldn't have recognized these issues so much if we weren't basically confibed to the hotel. Nevertheless we feel like a lot of the services were misrepresented
An excellent choice
Portfofino, what more can you say. The hotel was excellent. A level of class and elegance not found these days. Service impeccable. The breakfast was phenomenal. A ten minute walk to the marina. The hotel's private beach is a beautiful, tranquil spot to relax. My room faced the sea and I fell asleep to the sound of the water in a bed that enveloped. I can't imagine a better experience elsewhere.
Great location, staff, room and view. Great breakfast and dinners. Must get a room with a balcony and view. Worth the extra money.
Excellent location, hard to identify the property on s narrow busy road. Great breakfast and very nice dinners.
Hidden Gem
My wife and I were staying at the hotel for the third time in 5 years. And, I think, it says that we like the place. This time I would like to mention hotel’s restaurant “Terrace at Piccolo”. We visited many famous and not celebrated restaurants in Portofino. To our opinion “Terrace at Piccolo” is one of the best. Delicious menu, nice vine list, good service are just addition to beautiful view. And what also important is a great value. Highly recommending to visit this hidden gem.
Great hotel with stunning views
There were 3 of us. When we checked in we were told that they put us in a special room. We were amazed when we saw the stunning views from the room balcony. Friendly staff, very good breakfast. Made our first stay in Portofino even more unforgettable. Thank you Piccolo! Alejandro
The rooms are small but everything else is perfect.
Good location near Portofino
The location is great but some of the people working there needs to work on their way of treating the guests!
Great hotel. Perfect for a Portofino visit.
Staff were helpful with good English language skills. The hotel itself was a lovely old building that had been nicely refurbished. Portofino is a short 5-10 minute stroll away so location is excellent if you can handle a some stairs. The breakfast buffet was small but excellent. WiFi connection was only possible in the hotel lobby which was disappointing.
Cute hotel in a beautiful spot.
Portofino is just lovely, we really enjoyed our time in the hotel and the area generally. We were well looked after.
perfect location
We only spent one night here but took advantage of everything. The beach is right across the street and though there are a lot of stairs, it is worth it. Easy to walk to town from here and see all the sites the town has to offer.
Classic double room was very big but with very strange and not comforable layout with no view at all. At 6AM the staff made some unreal noise for about half an hour moving some stuff from next room to the lift. They wasn't very polite when I complained.
Beautiful hotel
Definitely recommend this hotel as it is clean, offers the best breakfast buffet I had in all of Europe and is within walking distance to everything.
Charming!
We only stayed one night. Would have loved to stay another. Hotel was great. Front desk staff were responsive but not as friendly as most places. I guess "stuffy" would be the word. I'd stay there again so they didn't put me off to much.
very charming location. relaxing. beautiful views. excellent breakfast. scenic walk to the quaint port town
my wifes birthday treat in portofino
great place to go to for a once in a lifetime experience take lots of euros
Fantastic staff in a beautiful location
All of the staff were incredible, from the valet parking to chambermaids - all made our stay absolutely perfect...in a perfect location to take advantage of all that beautiful Portofino has to offer. Bellisima!
Postcard Perfect!
An amazing boutique hotel in a picture-perfect location! Great breakfast with delightful service from Alice. Samuele and Luca were so personable and helpful with the baggage, room scheduling, car delivery and complete directions on how to ride the bus and catch the train to Cinque Terre. We could not have asked for a more pleasant, comfortable vacation experience!
Perfect dream
The hotel staff is very nice, fantastic room view and confort.
Great staff. Roberto was very nice and attentive
