First let me say I am not a "5 star" traveller. I have stayed at many 2 and 3 star properties in many countries and understand things are different in 2nd and 3rd world tropical countries. But Hotel Mangaby was unacceptable. Stay away. Bathroom not cleaned . Garbage full of last guests' dirty smelly toilet tissue. Cockroaches in the bathroom and around the bed even with the lights on! Imagine if I shut them off. The lady at the desk kindly helped me get a taxi and another hotel. I booked 2 nights and can understand paying for 1 night( I stayed none) but the hotel manager insisted on keeping payment for the second night as well. I guess that's how they make their money! Stay away...trust me. It's not worth it. I've never submitted such a bad review anywhere. I wouldn't stay for free...or even if you paid me!!

The hotel and the owners are fantastic! I read other reviews from recent travelers, and I have to say that this was a fabulous value and a really comfortable hotel. The staff is so accommodating. If you are looking for a luxury getaway with all the bells and whistles, this is not the place for you. HOWEVER, all of our needs were met, the pool and pool area are great, the private patio area for each room is fantastic, room service is very thorough and the place is clean and comfortable. We will definitely stay again on our next trip back. The location cannot be beat! The only negative was that the poolside bar/restaurant was not open during our stay due to staffing issues. This would have made it so perfect, but it was perfect none the less!

The owner was so friendly and helpful! It is close to the beach, and several excellent restaurants. There are mini suites, or standard rooms. We had a suite, which was well stocked with dishes, flatware, pots, pans, blender, slow cooker, and toaster. Also pitcher, cups, glasses for wine, and rocks drinks. We were only there for 3 days, and it was a nice stay!

The staff were extremely nice and the breakfast they offer was delicious! The pool is maintained well and its a quite area! Would highly recommend for new travellers!

Our stay at the hotel Mangaby was very enjoyable overall. Rooms were clean, and Alberto and Magda were always very friendly and kind and ready to help out. If you're ever in Playa Hermosa, check this place out.

Check in staff was rude. Had a suite so no free breakfast (didn’t realize when I upgraded rooms) yet no coffee in the room not was there a cooktop for me to make breakfast. Even some of the worst places I stayed have coffee in the rooms. Clean and in a great location but definitely past its prime. Bed was as hard as a rock. Still upset that the upgraded room cost me the free breakfast!

Nicer small hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Pool was great and refreshing. Breakfast was okay. Only con was the lack of ice at the hotel.

clean, safe, and convenient

A basic motel with a nice pool area. The room had a safe but the room doors for entry are dual sliding glass and not very secure. Very flimsy lock throw that didn’t catch half the time. I was diving the day I checked out and asked if I could store one suitcase until 3pm in office. Lady at check in was fairly surly and unhelpful. Told it was impossible. Which was weird as she was sitting there with no customers on her phone.

It is a small property, very close to the beach, nothing outstanding, just another motel, good enough to sleep at night. Clean, quiet, decent breakfast. But not outstanding in any way.

Mangaby is close to the beach and has two troops of Howler Monkeys nearby, a big plus for me. It was generally lean, and the maid came in daily. We had a little trouble getting breakfast on time. One morning, we were being picked up at 7:00 for an excursion but the hotel would not serve breakfast until 7:15 at the earliest. So even though we had paid for breakfast and requested it early, we could not get it. Another morning, we requested 7:15 breakfast due to a 7:30 pickup. That morning it was ready about 7:30. No refund for breakfasts we could not get.

Nice rooms. Only 1 English speaking channel that cycled the same movies. Stairs outside room attached to room; sounded like a herd of elephants.

This place was wonderful right from check in!!

Our granddaughter loved the pool as did the grownups.

I stayed with family for 12 days. The hotel is very clean, lovely swimming pool, and very friendly staff. Several restaurants are within walking distance as well as a beach. Our room had very nice beds and excellent air-conditioning. The view outside our room was beautiful. I highly recommend Staying here and it is also family friendly.

Cute family run hotel in Playa Hermosa

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Mangaby. The breakfast was wonderful! We really enjoyed the pool directly outside our door. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

We loved this property. Although an older facility, the staff were amazing and friendly and worked so hard! The breakfast was so delicious and Magda at the front desk was a sweetheart and helped us so much! We would definitely go back. Our balcony was used daily for bird watching, iguana sightings and viewing the vegetation around the pool. It was extremely quiet and enjoyable. Ty Hotel Mangaby!!!

We were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Mangaby. Our room was clean and very comfortable, the hotel cleaning service made sure of this. Great job ladies!!!! We enjoyed the continental breakfast that was offered, the pool and waterfall were lovely, and the staff were always smiling and very friendly. The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the beach and many restaurants. I would recommend Coco Viquez restaurant. Delicious food and for a reasonable price. Thank you Alberto, Nelsy and Magda for your great recommendations, your assistance in calling taxis to get us to and from our adventures and most of all making us feel welcome and at home. I recently stayed at the Mangaby hotel and had a mixed experience. While I enjoyed the pool and terrace amenities, unfortunately, the cleanliness of the hotel was not up to par. We found cockroaches in our room on both nights of our stay, and there was a consistently unpleasant odor. Additionally, the furniture was quite old, and the refrigerator had rust. On the positive side, the air conditioning worked well, the TV signal was good, and the Wi-Fi coverage was excellent. The hotel's location was also a highlight, as it was conveniently located near some great restaurants and just a short walk from the beach. Overall, while there were some enjoyable aspects of our stay at the Mangaby hotel, the cleanliness issues detracted from the experience. I would recommend that the hotel management prioritize improving the cleanliness and upkeep of the rooms to ensure a more pleasant stay for guests in the future.

Good Room for Good Price!

This was a perfect stay for us, just what we needed after a red eye. The rooms were comfortable and clean and they had a nice outdoor patio for us to hang out on. The pool was clean with comfortable lounge chairs. We didn't try their breakfast, not up early enough :( ... I really liked playa hermosa for just one night, maybe 2. The beach is 2 minute walk one way and not very busy and the restaurants are 2 minutes the other way.

Pleasant Stay at Mangaby

I did the two bedroom suite for a party of two so we had plenty of room, which we did - Overall the property is nice but a little dated - The chief issue we both faced was VERY spotty wifi, which we were both leaning on - The bathrooms could use abs update with no area to place toiletries - The shower bypass took some manipulation to get it too work - The housekeeping staff was very good - The hotel is well situated permitting a short walk to beach or area restaurants - The onsite restaurant never was staffed when we were in hotel so can’t comment in this space

The breakfasts were good and cheap. Ac was good and staff were friendly. Rooms are basic but clean

The pool and waterfall were fantastic! Ability to have a freshly cooked breakfast, not just a buffet, was great, but would like more options. If you get up early enough, but after dawn, you can see monkeys traveling around. A little better insect pest control would be nice, but you're in the jungle, so some is unavoidable.

Alberto and his family were amazing to work with. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful pool area and were offered a wonderful breakfast each morning. Being only 300m from the beautiful Playa Hermosa and also close to some local “sodas”, it was the best of both worlds.

Our room was clean and comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, the shower had plenty of hot water and breakfast was good. The pool and its area was nice, and we liked having our own patio area.

Nice Family run hotel.

Hotel Mangaby is a nice family owned hotel within a block of the Pacific ocean. The place was clean. The room featured a kitchenette and seating including a couch and 2 chairs. The owner helped us with local transportation. There was air conditioning. I did find the bed a bit firm.

Everything was great

Very nice property, close to the beach, restaurants and grocery store. Spacious, clean rooms. They upgraded our room at check in to include the extra bed, which kids were thrilled about. Great, friendly hosts. They offer breakfast option, which worked out well and included fresh fruit and choices for hot meal (traditional and omelette). And one morning they offered us to try something new, which we did. All were delicious. There is also a nice, well maintained swimming pool, where we relaxed in the evening. Would highly recommend.

It was a beautiful hotel family run. Pool was best feature do to the heat. But clean and well maintained. Breakfast was very good. A very nice stay no complaints. The owners are right there if you have problem.

Smaller than I thought. Room was very close to pool and noisy in the evening. Loud banging in room above us. Alberto and Nelly very pleasant and helpful. Staff friendly. Breakfast adequate.

Great customer service and very well upkept hotel. Roberto definitely cares about the hotel and his customers. He's passionate about his work. it is family owned and you can tell they work hard as a family to make this hotel a great place for their customers. The pool was another highlight, very clean and well decorated. We went to the pool every day. In my opinion, the pool was even better than the beach itself. Having a balcony was a plus as well. One improvement I would add is to have a "room service" tag/sign available for customers to place outside the door in case someone does not want the room to be cleaned/serviced. We will definitely stay here again next time in Costa Rica! Hotel is very close to the beach and the restaurants. There is a restaurant a few seconds walk from hotel called Soda Hermosa, great food and juices. We had breakfast there daily. Thank you again Roberto and family for making our stay a pleasure! Our stay was excellent. The staff took much care in assuring all of our needs were met. The breakfast taste great, and the staff even arranged for a taxi to pick us up in the morning to take us to the airport. If your looking for good value and service while in the Costa Rica Playa Hermosa area, look no further this is the place.

Lovely place.

The first front desk staff member was very nice, the second was not so nice. So the staff I interacted were 50/50. The room was old, not clean, beds were uncomfortable, and man was it loud there. Not pleasant.

Neat Little motel

Really neat little place. Easy walk to the beach. Decent breakfast for a free one. The only complaint really is that the beds are super hard. Charming place overall though.

Noise from the restaurant is bothersome from 5:30 AM to 10 PM.

I stayed above the pool and it was noisy every night The bar is open at the end and many people gather there with lots of drinking and loud music. I went and asked the manager each night to turn things down. Many other better places to stay and they would have a view also.

Simple basic rooms close to the beach and good restaurants. A nice patio to sit out front. Breakfast was a highlight! Staff was very friendly. The landscaping is beautiful and inviting.

Descent affordable place with free breakfast. Easy walk to Hermosa beach. On our last day, there were a dozen monkey in the trees. Make sure you have hot water (in shower only) before you accept the room.

The pros of this hotel is the pool, a lot of hotels do not keep their pools very clean. Their pool was well taken care of. The hotel is two block distance to the beach and the WiFi was good. We were able to play Netflix on our iPads. However, we will not be staying here ever again. There was a roach in the room as soon as we checked in. It is the equator, so hoping it was a one off, but that night I woke up to one on me. I killed him a few hours later. Then the next morning another ran across me and my girlfriend. We complained to the front desk. They seem to have done something, we did not have a problem for about three days. Unfortunately, the problem returned and we had roaches the last six days of our trip. The bed on a scale of 1 to 10 was a 2. It was hard as a rock. If you stay here, ask for a room on the second floor. The building is concrete, and most of our stay we had kids above us. They would run and the concrete would sound like heavy thunder. If you wanted a nap after morning activities or wanted to go to bed early, you were out of luck. Food was good, but the same four items everyday. Not a big deal If staying for five days, but beyond that you would want to venture out. People mention the fixtures being old. Who cares? They were fine for the price range. I am not buying a house. Staff and owners are super friendly.

We have stayed at Mangaby during previous trips....... Very nice property generally. One thing we noticed was the shower looked filthy like it rarely is cleaned, including water stains and mold. It isn't a cheap place to stay, so it is reasonable to expect the shower to be clean. Everything else was immaculate. Other than the shower, we were very satisfied.

The pool was nice and the rooms were large. The fixtures were a little dated and bathrooms could use an update. The short walk to the beach was great and overall we really enjoyed our stay in Playa Hermosa.

We had 1 little minor problem with our room. Right away they gave us a new room. Everyone was so nice. The breakfast was excellent. The pool was very nice. We ate supper at the restaurant and the food was very good. It is just a short walk to the beach from the hotel. I recommend you stay at this hotel. I know I will go back there on my next trip to Costa Rica !!

The hotel is close to Playa Hermosa beach and walking distance to many excellent restaurants plus a supermarket and a souvenir store. It is in an ideal location. Excellent facility for the price. The breakfast included in the price makes it great. The owner, Alberto and his family are very welcoming people. We were trying to find a taxi to visit Coco beach and Alberto offered us a free ride as he was going in that direction anyway. The owners also are helpful in arranging tours or boat rides at a fair price. Overall, we had a great time at the facility, which includes a nice swimming pool and plenty of sun at the balcony. I would highly recommend booking Mangaby if one is visiting Costa Rica.

Nice Family Hotel

Pros: Room was spacious, pool was refreshing, beds are comfortable, breakfast tasty and onsite restaurant was very convenient with very good food, close to the beach, cold fridge in the room and walking distance to small supermarket Cons: Wifi was weak in the room, bathroom could use an update, water was not hot Overall a good hotel for the value and would recommend to others.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Mangaby. Quaint cozy hotel run by super nice people. Alberto and his daughter were really helpful and made us comfortable from day one of our first trip to Costa Rica. Simple and clean accommodations. Very close proximity to Playa Hermosa beach.

The room and bathroom needs updating They need to upgrade the rooms bathrooms decor and light fixtures

The property was close to the beach - a five minute walk if that. The pool was awesome, not too cold, not too warm. Outside space to sit at night with a glass of wine. Alberto Jr & Sr were very nice and helpful. Helped us arrange a rental car. Great with ideas of things to see.

Really close to Playa Hermosa and other beaches, other restaurants. Rooms are clean, the swimming pools is small but clean and fun for kids. Staff always helpful.
