Everything.is wonderful at this hotel. The only negative is the limited choice for room service. I will continue to stay here however.
A little bit out of the way from downtown and not as close to Kingston as it may at first appear. But generally a decent central locale, with super helpful staff.
Delightful and great location in quiet neighborhoo
Great location for visiting the National Art Gallery elegant and quiet
A historic hotel
Very nice hotel with friendly staff.
Well restored hotel steeped in history retains the 1940’s charm and adds some modern convenience. Sadly the restaurant didn’t have much on the menu and was quite expensive.
Can recommend
We stayed here and were able to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, and attractions.
Location was fantastic- reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend
Great location - short walk to the National Art Gallery. Excellent dining with indoor and open air seating.
Historic hotel in a great location. Comfortable spacious room. We walked to most of the attractions that we visited, eg The National Gallery and a short Uber trip to some restaurants in Manuka. On site restaurant was good and a buzzing cafe with good coffee virtually next door. We would stay again.
Our room was well-appointed, comfortable and clean. Overall, we experienced good service and we enjoyed our breakfasts on both mornings. The staff were a bit rushed off their feet but they were pleasant and keen to help. The breakfast portions were generous and tasty! The hotel is in a quiet location and we walked to the National Gallery and Questacon. Parking is $18 a day but we easily found parking on a nearby street.
Avoid the breakfast
The room was very nice, but unfortunately the experience when we had breakfast was not good. Due to needing an early start we were at the restaurant for breakfast dead on 7am, the supposed starting time, we found that the urn for hot water had only just been turned on, so we had to wait and order from the bar. We ordered a prime ministers breakfast, when it came, the bacon was cold and so was the potato rosti. The sourdough toast came and it wasn’t toasted, it had been put on a hot plate and where the grill had touched the bread it left a burnt line, only one side was done, the other not toasted/grilled. Very disappointing for this quality of hotel and for the price charged for the breakfast.
The property was lovely representative of an old heritage home. The staff were lovely and we enjoyed our stay. Our only criticism was the food and beverage. 24 hour room service was unavailable. Dirty dishes in the hall most of the day and breakfast was so under staffed that we ended up not eating at the property at all.
Enjoyable
The room itself was extremely good. The general layout of the hotel made transiting a bit more time consuming than normal but for a 100 year old building you give that a pass. All the reception staff we fantastic, especially whoever checked us in (I didn’t catch their name annoyingly), we were in the queue behind a very difficult group who showed no manners. Not only did he handle them with the upmost professionalism, he also did not let that interaction affect his dealing with us. Could not have been more polite and engaging when we approached the counter, if I was in his situation I definitely would’ve had some left over anger from the rudeness he had to deal with. Service in the restaurant was slow, but we were staying off peak on a Monday and they seemed short staffed so could’ve been the night we were there. Would stay there again
Service wasn't great, tables not clean etc. Reception staff very good.
Taps in bathroom noisy squeal
Quiet hotel. Very very classy looking. Nice fireplace for the cold winter love it
Convenient location and friendly staff.
Excelent hotel
Very friendly staff
Gorgeous property - we loved the history and feeling like we were stepping back in time. Handy for the major attractions - galleries, Parliament House etc. A little further to walk to eating destinations - approx 20min walk. Super quiet rooms, very comfortable and the interconnecting family room was great value.
Good position, cosy and affordable
Staff very friendly & welcoming. Rooms well equipped, clean & bed comfortable. Easy parking. Short walk to the galleries & Old Parliament House. This hotel has a lovely atmosphere.
Great place to dtay
Very comfortable. Lovely staff. EV charger
As good as it gets in the 1930s
Great stay at the Kurrajong, historic property beautifully renovated. Lovely place to have a drink m, including by the fireplace in winter.
Nice clean property in s convenient location
The hotel needs to upgrade its security standards- Upon arrival to my room after a day of sightseeing i found my room was kept wide open as if it has been checked out. My laptop and personal belongings were touched by the house keeping staff, i stayed in the property in room 57 on 16th Aug until 19th Aug2024. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone just because of this reason.
Excellent facilities and great ambiance
Light luggage only
The hotel has a nice classic feel to it. The hotel staff is very helpful and nice and the kitchen on the property makes very good food. The breakfast was hearty and the dinner options I tried were all very delicious and very well put together. The major drawback is that there are no elevators in the hotel, and the cooling/heating system could do with an upgrade as it takes quite some time for the units to kick in. If you are looking for a classic style hotel with good food for your short stay this may be a great option for you. If you are on a long trip, want multiple close by options and don't want to struggle with your luggage up and down the stairs, I suggest you look some place else.
A very beautiful hotel. Love the open fire in winter.
Room was not very clean (carpets not vacuumed, aircon vent caked with dust). Shower glass door hinge not aligned properly and water ran all over floor. Location is good, close to restaurants and Parliament.
Fantastic interior design. Bed was amazing. Staff were lovely.
Great service
Excellent service & excellent accommodations
A lovely quiet hotel in a quiet neighborhood of a quiet city. Rooms are spacious, the restaurant and bar is excellent, and the staff efficient and courteous. The only draw back is there are few nearby restaurants. The hotel is just a short walk from the National Archives (my reason to be there). Probably 20-30 min walk to an area with more cafes and restaurants. But the hotel one is good enough that there’s little need to go out. (A reasonable burger place is next door). Decorated with historic photos of Australian PMs and Canberra’s early years.
Such a lovely hotel. Old world charm with modern facilities
A cosy heritage hotel. Lovely place to stay for a weekend. Excellent restaurant. Helpful staff. Will definitely return.
Fantastic high end stay
We had a lovely stay. Rooms were large and clean. Hotel was quiet and easy to get to. We didnt have a lot to do with many staff, but those we did were excellent. Would stay again!
History and ambience
Lovely heritage hotel. Charging for parking and movies plus overpriced mediocre food isn’t great.
Great place to stay. You can feel the history in the place but it's not old and must ... very liveable.
Location
Clean, liveable and welcoming. Went when parliament wasnt sitting and it was very affordable. Simple easy and close to everything.
location
Spacious room, great location
Lovely property with a lot of history. Only a couple of problems. There was no sound on a couple of TV Channels and no hot water in the sink for shaving and the bar staff had no clue whatsover about how to make cocktails or even basic drinks but overall it was very clean and reception staff were first class. I would come again.
the convenience and standard of the hotel
Great location
Very comfortable stay. Great location.
A comfortable and convenient hotel for our planned visit to National Gallery. The room we requested, a twin, was dysfunctional due to the placement of a table between the beds and we asked if the table and beds could be moved, the person on the desk said he would do what he could, but on returning to the room after dinner nothing had been done. We sorted it in a couple of minutes. Breakfast arrangement was a shambles until one learned that you found your own table, if there was one that had been cleared, and ordered at the bar counter. Excellent breakfast, poor restaurant management.
Beautiful heritage hotel in convenient location. Comfy beds, nice and clean, modernised and fantastic courtyard area to relax. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bonus walking distance to many of Canberra’s highlights,
We enjoyed our previous stay with our club in November 23. The hotel was good for all standards which is why we returned. We were not aware that it was Canberra Day holiday and it was soon obvious that management had decided that guests who were game to stay on this weekend should be happy to make do seeing they were not paying the usual Tarrif. Skeleton staff, one said he had to wait bar and do the food, etc on his own. On ordering our meal we asked about the accompanying vegetables and was told they would be minimal. The garden area by the bar was to be quite frank unkempt. Enough said, I think
Great location, facility and service
In need of a deep clean
We stayed at Hotel Kurrajong for 2 nights in a Heritage King Room. The hotel overall had a nice charm to it when you walk into the foyer. The room itself however was disappointing. Our room was adjoining another room with a door in between the two rooms. Through this door you could hear everything going in the room next door, there was no sound-proofing. There was also music which could be heard both nights (perhaps from the bar downstairs), which stopped by around 10pm each night. The level of cleanliness in the room (and hotel overall) was poor. I have taken several pictures, but many areas of the room appeared to not been properly cleaned in months. There was a build up of dust easily seen in numerous places in the room. The furniture had spills on it not wiped up from previous guests making tea/ coffee etc. Many dead bugs and webs could be seen inside the windows and the bathroom itself had not been cleaned properly in a while and was gross, especially behind the door. The hotel needs a really deep clean and attention to the common areas where dust could be spotted easily. It is sad to see such a beautiful hotel in this state.
A beautiful well maintained heritage property with great atmosphere. So comfortable and welcoming. It must be fantastic in winter with that fabulous reception area around the fireside.
Excellent hotel
A nice old building with a great and helpful staff.
It's a heritage propery for the 21st century.
Enjoyable stay in historic Canberra hotel
Have stayed here a few times and have always found it to be an excellent experience. A grand old building with a bit of history. This time we had a special deal through Hotels.com, otherwise it would have been a bit pricey. Check-in was easy and staff were friendly and helpful. Our room, once we found it(!) was lovely - quiet, spacious and comfortable. Being a weekend, we were able to park for free on-street. There were a few restaurants and cafes within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again, especially if the price was right.
Modern room. Very clean.
Canberra Kurrajong
My 3rd or 4th time staying here. Had an issue with shower door not closing properly and so leaking water to outside of shower. Also the fridge quite loud during the night. Reception staff outstanding as usual so will put it down to a one off unlucky with the room we ended up with.
Super lovely people and lovely property, great food. Well positioned. Kind staff.
Good location- you’ll need a car.
Very cute place to stay - I stayed her a few years ago and it’s nice to see the rooms and facility has had an upgrade. Sadly the shower has not been cleaned thoroughly enough fir a while / see pics. But, overall it’s convenient if you’re visiting Parliament House and war memorial.
The room was a bit small and the way to the room is a bit confusing. We got good service from the staff Francis by giving us some beverages to celebrate the new year! Great impression.
Room we stayed in was a little run down . Shower was disappointing room was clean but needs upkeep. Food in hotel was nice as so were the staff
Was a nice heritage place to stay, staff were amazing, has restaurant and bar that are nice to.
Great stay
Awesome historic hotel very close to museums and parlament. Great breakfast and very nice garden for a drink. Only little negative was that the staff at the restaurant was a bit inexperienced. However the second day there was another crew which seemed more experienced. Staff at the reception was excellent and super helpful throughout.
Nice place - staff could be trained better
They were straight onto fixing and issue we had with our room, everything was resolved so fast.
Kurrajong Stay
Arrived at 3 pm, no problem with check in with friendly and efficient staff. Room comfortable on 1st floor. Friends were a little way from us but staff moved them to a room just down the hall. Breakfasts of good quality and plentiful. Again well served by dining room staff. We had a nice dinner on Monday night in restaurant. Due to rain threatening reception staff leant us an umbrella which was extremely useful when caught in a downpour at 6 pm on Monday evening. All in all we could not have asked for better service and courtesy from staff who met all our challenges. Parking was at the door with payment of $17 per night. Would recommend the Kurrajong to friends and fellow travelers.
Mostly terrific. A shame to charge guests for parking, especially when it is not always available readily
The hotel was very comfortable, homely and cosy. Loved the old colonial style hotel. It was very well maintained and the staff were very friendly and nothing was any trouble. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
Staff were friendly but needed more management leadership. Priority of staff was more on clearing tables rather than attending to guests. Parking convenient but too expensive. Local maps and tourist information was available but we had to ask for it rather than a Preferred table or Rack to choose from. We had No idea how to work the coffee machine and there was No other options available. On a Positive we will stay with you next time in the hope that these minor items are improved
Quiet, funky interior design, courteous and friendly staff.
Loved this old historic hotel. The only thing that spoilt our stay was a strange intermittant noise in the night. Like an electronic noise. Spoke to reception on check out who didn't seem to know what it was. I find that hard to believe. I was assured they would look into it for me. I'm still waiting for an answer!!!!
All fine except noisy air conditioner outside room 147
Lovely hotel in a very good Canberra area. Staff friendly and helpful. Will stay again next time in Canberra
Comfo
Great position for walking to restaurants etc, lovely historical hotel and the staff were so friendly and welcoming .
The dining room and bar was closed for lunch and dinner over the long weekend. Limited room service menu and hours too.
Great hotel and service. Large rooms and staff were helpful and lovely. No swimming pool which did not bother us. Would stay again!
Quick location, beautiful rooms and lovely garden to have a drink
Checkin was slow >10 mins standing waiting as one staff behind desk. Room was good except housekeeping improve as there was a dirty towel left hanging on back of bathroom door, no English breakfast tea bags in room, appreciate the bottle of disinfectant in the room to wipe over for added assurance of cleanliness, TV remote didn’t work, fixed by a helpful staff, thank you. Problems with room key not working for access to car park or room. Restaurant staff seem disinterested and unhappy and in need of some training. Left feeling invisible by staff and finally when order taken parts of order not received. Staff couldn’t explain menu items and some food had to be sent back as it wasn’t cooked properly. If you wanted to order anything extra nobody comes near you and staff walk around with a blank face. The hotel decor is nice, location is good and finally at checkout there was a member of staff who was pleasant, polite, helpful and had some customer skills, thank you Steffi. I don’t expect to be treated like royalty but I do like some customer service and hotel staff that help guests to enjoy the experience of staying in a ‘nice” hotel
Great Stay
We had a great stay. The location suits us as we like park and just walk most places
Historic building, quiet, clean, has EV charging
Nice art deco hotel, clean & well kept, has free EV charging at the front - main reason I booked the hotel (but no proper car park for it, awkwardly placed, and the carpark is often taken by other cars or motorcycles). Car park at the back cost $17 (quite pricey). Also has laundry but couldn't figure out how to use it. Most guests are elderlies, not many people with kids. The restaurant is quite pricey too. Location is in the office area, but short drive to all the tourist attractions. Pretty surroundings. Probably more suitable for couples/ retired/ business trips, rather than family with young kids.
Nice
Walking distance to the art gallery and parliament house. Lovely to stay in a bit of history
This hotel is close to Parliament House where I was working. It is wonderful to get home after work and sit in front of the fire, have a drink and chat with other guests.
The staff were very personable
Beautiful stay with very kind, respectful and friendly staff. Not much noise, easy and accessible parking on site and staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Very spacious and clean room with efficient and thoughtful amenities. Beds, linen, and pillows were very comfortable and window shutters and curtains blocked light very well. Would definitely stay again when visiting Canberra.
Pleasant place to stay when visiting Canberra
Nice property, good proximity to restaurants
Good feel as you enter. Corridors smelt beautiful. No booking available for dinner at night, with the hotel remote from other options.parking entry/exit did not operate well.
Liked the food, ambience & history.
Great stay
Staff were so lovely & I had forgotten my phone charger, but it was no trouble for them to charge it for me. Loved my free bottle of wine as I’ve never tried one from that winery.
Great location and exquisite property with rich history. Definitely one for the bucket list in the capital.
Beautiful building/grounds and stunning interiors but no lift to the second floor which isn't a problem unless you've got heavy bags. Our room looked beautiful but was let down by the mattress and pillows being really uncomfortable. Also, we could hear the person in the next room which kept us up. Bathroom was beautiful. Both room and bathroom could be a bit cleaner. Some furnishings show wear or age. Located 10 min drive from the CBD in a pretty, leafy and quiet area.
Comfortable and convenient
We have stayed here many times over the years. The rooms have always been comfortable and spacious and tastefully decorated. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is within reasonable walking distance of the NGA, Parliament House and other attractions.
