2 nights in central Modena

A very pleasant hotel near the city centre and the station. Very close to the main museums Room was small but very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices

)K, the only thing we really enjoyed at the Estense was the breakfast. When we arrived, we were given rooms on the fourth floor that smelled of smoke. The rugs were very dirty and laundry area doors were left open. We complained and were given new rooms on the lst floor which were much cleaner. Antonio greeted us but seemed to have little interest in making us feel welcome. The hotels Expedia rating is a 3 but I would give them a 1.

A wonderful stay, the breakfasts were fantastic.

The staff were very friendly and the location is very close to the old downtown area where you can find the beautiful cathedral and lots of great places to eat. Watch your arrival time - we came in on a train from Rome on a Monday, and after checking in around 2:30, it was difficult to find a place open for a late lunch.

Comfortable but a bit loud

Stayed 2 nights. Room was clean and comfortable. Very large bathroom - nice surprise for a European hotel. My only issue was being woken up early on a Saturday morning (1:30 am) by a large party going on in a room down the hall. Seemed to go on for at least half an hour, but died down just as I was getting ready to call the front desk to deal with it. Was surprised that the front desk didn't intervene right away - we were staying on the first floor, right above the front desk area. Other than that, would recommend. The breakfast they provide was very good.

I had a comfortable stay, aircon in room was strong, really helped as it was pretty hot in Modena during my stay. Breakfast is great. The staff are accommodating and helpful especially the receptionist who checked me out, he was friendly, approachable, accommodating.

We were a little unsure about this hotel based on the photos and some other reviews but this ended up being a great place to stay. The staff were were very helpful and let us store our baggage when we arrived early. The room was spacious and beds were extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also spacious and was very clean. And the location was great - not too far from the train station and a short walk to the restaurants and shops of the city. The included buffet breakfast was delicious too with a wide variety of breads, cheese, cereal, juices, fruit and coffees, all fresh and plentiful. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Cheap hotel near the centre of Modena

Handy hotel close to the city centre. It's cheap, so you basically get what you pay for. It would need maintenance, but it is convenient for a night.

Kind of old classic Italian hotel. The room had all the essential things needed but a remodeling of the hotel would help to make it a five star experience. A guy was playing loud the electric guitar after dinner. But he stoppwd at 22:30. Breakfast is definitely above the average and excellent.

Well located hotel with sub-average rooms

Plus side: This hotel is conveniently located. The rooms were decently sized. Breakfast was more than adequate. Front desk workers were helpful and friendly. Minus side: Bathrooms were tiny. The shower was hardly big enough to turn around in. Our room smelled like sewage every time we walked in. And there was a large party in the park outside on Saturday night that went on until 2 am with loud music.

Quaint Hotel with great location, free parking

We used this hotel to be close to city center and the Osteria Francescana we had a reservation at. Nice and friendly staff, limited but enough communication and aplus of having parking on site or on street without having to pay was definitely welcome. Hotel could be seen as a bit outdated but compensates with room size. Overall good accommodation, great location.

Worth less than 50 euro per night with breakfast.

Hotel itself has an old interior and need to invest a bit in new technology, they are still using keys for the rooms and every time you leave you need to leave them at the reception. Further the room was next to the park and at weekend music was too loud. Monday morning at 6 the garbage is being picked up so not good if your room faces the park :(. Airconditioning nor working and open window is a must but with the noise from outside you need to make the choice what you prefer. Staff was very friendly, helpful and they do deserve huge thanks. Overall I would rate the hotel as 2 stars not three as they got stuck in the 70's.

Nice place to stay, but the rooms are pretty dated. We were staying in Modena in very hot weather and the old AC couldn't keep up. Our room was way too hot.

Great location but tired

Great location in the old town. Walking distance to local market and historical sites. Hotel itself is tired and in need of updating. Im sure I read somewhere it had been updated but definitely wasnt our room or the reception, dining room etc. Bed was comfy and the room was clean but it was a warm day when we arrived and we were on the top floor in a tiny room which had been built into the roof. We opened the windows for air and went off to find some dinner. When we returned later in the night we tried to turn on the air con. Unfortunately it didnt work and there was a rave party in the park opposite so leaving the windows open wasnt an option. Needless to say it was a very hot night. After showering in the morning I found the hairdryer didnt work either and it was one of the ones that are wired into the wall so couldnt swap it. Really annoyed by this time. Free parking out the back of the hotel was welcome but space was tight and there was a grotty area with old plastic garden chairs that was overgrown and dirty. I assume that was supposed to be an alfresco area once upon a time. Nice you g girl on reception when we checked out but overpriced compared to other places we stayed at. Not worth the price!

Love this hotel

Great breakfast although a bit cramped, make sure you get there early for a seat- I’ve had to do a few grab and go runs. My room looked very basic but it’s very comfortable. Access to premium television is always a plus (especially for a single traveller ;). Opposite the museum and a 5 minute walk to the main piazza and central. Oh and a private courtyard around back for parking.

The room was, clean and nice view. The center, stores and restaurants were all with in walking distance.

Free wifi was fast. Very impressed with bathroom facilities and toiletries. They gave you free toothbrush, shoe shiner etc...

Very loud street - close to city center

This hotel was a bit of a disappointment. The pictures on the app don't look like it actually looks like. Positive is the distance to the city center, just a few minutes walk away. Also, free parking is offered. However, the hotel looks old and run-down. Worst was the noise from the street. The windows are not soundproof at all and there is a busy and due to the condition very loud street in front of the hotel. I had my room facing the street... With earplugs sleeping in the small bed was about OK. The room looks a bit outdated and small but was clean and the shower worked properly. So, for one night is was ok, given the proximity to the center but I would chose a different hotel next time as the street noice was really bad.

Not what it says on the tin

The picture on Expedia is of another hotel. This is not a relatively modern one on a major thoroughfare, but an aged one on a busy inner ring road outside the centre of Modena. The rooms are big enough, but there's no soundproofing between any of them, meaning you not only hear that something is happening in the loo next door -- you also hear exactly what they are doing. The cleaning staff start their rounds at eight, again behind paper-thin walls, and are not afraid to exchange the previous day's gossip very loudly. Mind you, they won't wake you up because you won't have been able to get any sleep on their stone-hard rubber pillows. The hotel -- if that's what you want to call this establishment -- is close to the Palazzo dei Musei, but that's about the only positive thing there is to say about it.

We really liked the breakfast. The rooms were ok but beds were not so comfortable. The woman at the front desk was really nice and helpful.

Great city with great food

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, the staff was willing to make my stay as pleasant as possible, I would definitely recommend it, two thumbs up !

The room needs remodeling. Windows block out noise from outdoors weel. However, you will hear your neighbors. Lovely staff.

"Value Hotel"

Front desk staff are courteous and efficient. Hotel is a bit "tired" and needs some form of refurbishing. Free parking available, so that's a plus - considering you're in Italy. Nonetheless, good value considering it is just about 500m from the historic center.

Not good for the price

The rooms are cleaned every day but they're still very scruffy. The beds are so uncomfortable that I couldn't sleep. However the location is good and the staff are very pleasant. This would be fine if it were a cheap hotel but it's about £75 per night - if I'd been paying £30 I would have expected this level of scruffiness, but not at £75.

Total lack of charm

The hotel totally lacks charm - not my room, nor the lounge downstairs. My small (twin bed) single reminded me of a nun’s small space (although I have no idea really). Furniture, linens and bedspread were all old and outdated. There was no art, etc., on the walls. Not only was the safe not attached to the closet shelf, but the shelf itself was not attached and was hanging at a tilt. Positives: good WiFi, good room lighting, less than 1/2 mile from main historic attractions, 3 minutes walk from bus station & 0.7 mi to train station. The breakfast was the best part. Pleasant room, lots of meats, some eggs, lots of fresh fruit and pastries and a well used self serve coffee (cappuccino, etc) machine. Fresh (self) squeezed orange juice. Cereal and yogurt. Busy, helpful and pleasant staff. If I were to return to Modena I would look for other lodging.

A good place to stay in Modena

This is a nice 3* hotel very close to the centre of Modena. The check-in process went smoothly, the check-our process as well, even though the staff could be more polite. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom consisted of two spaces, the second space with the sink, toilet and bidet was extremely cold. The floor wasn't just cold, it was freezing compared to the space with the shower. There was a good selection available for breakfast. I especially liked the fresh orange juice machine.

A good choice in Modena

Initially we were given one of the worst rooms in the hotel. After a sleepless night next to the elevator shaft and a relentlessly humming transformer, they were very nice about changing rooms and the rest of our stay(3 nights) was great. Very well located to walk in the centro, a free parking lot, and very easy access to day trips outside of town. The breakfast was excellent.

Needing a place to stay in Modena, Italy?!

Not what I expected

The room was very small, however, this it to be expected in the older parts of cities. The bathroom had been remodeled and was nice. The bed was poor. Thin hard mattress. Pillow was very thin and of little support. There was a bad musty smell in the room.

No No No

Our room was dated and the AC did not work. It was a warm day so we asked the receptionist how to turn on the AC, as advertised in its online listing as an amenity. He replied bluntly that it isn't usually this hot and that this is the way it is... wth?! We had to keep the windows closed overnight because bugs were getting in and there was a lot of road noise from the main street. The shower was small with stains/mold around the trims (grossssss). It is ~10 min walk to the city center and this hotel's only redeeming factor is that it has a decent breakfast. Will not stay again and will not recommend to anyone.

We actually arrived a day early. The staff were very helpful getting us sorted with rooms for this additional night. Staff were great with recommendations and directions. A great location for a visit to Modena - a wonderful place to visit!

Great location near the old city. Easy to get around

We are a family who stayed one night.

The hotel is in a good location, a 10 min walk to the centre of Medina. We parked on site and did not have to use the car again. Everything was comfortable including a bar. The breakfast was splendid. The staff spoke English.

It was a terrible experience. We never had a bad experience like this before. The guy at the front desk was s really angry gut to begin with. When we asked if there is a porter to help us with the luggage, he told us " this is only a 3 star hotel. We don't have a porter. What do you expect" we were surprised to his reaction. Then when we entered the room, it smelled like a bad sweat. We had to bring an airfreshener and spray in order to sleep. We couldn't wait to get out of there. Unfortunately we arrived late so we couldn't even find another hotel. I will never go back there again.

Ideal accommodation

Booked a single room - bathroom nearly as big! Room temperature a problem and a nit noisy if facing the street. Between-room insulation poor. Breakfast good, bed comfortable and staff uniformly helpful.

Great location for Modena

Lovely hotel very close to the centre of Modena - allows walking to all major attractions, shops and restaurants. Lovely staff and a excellent breakfast. Rooms are very clean, though beds could do with sprucing up. Would stay here again

over priced for quality

Room had a musty smell, front desk staff was competent but not overtly friendly (no greeting when we walked in or out), toilet seat cracked, bidet soap bottle was half empty.

Great base to see Modena

Hotel was well modernised. Good facilities. Excellent breakfast - one of the best. Location ideal, if not glamorous. Brilliant open-air market adjacent on Monday mornings.

A nice no frills place

I spent exactly one night at Hotel Estense. It was quiet, clean, air conditioned and restful. If you're travelling with your wife or girlfriend, it might not impress her, but if you want a good night sleep, wifi and a good breakfast with no fuss and no attitude, here you go.

Hotel Estense - highly recommended

Had business in Modena and Bologna and found Hotel Estense a perfect base. Room was to the rear of the hotel and was ideal - comfortable, clean and quiet. Staff were helpful and thoroughly professional. Will happily stay at Hotel Estense on any return visit to the region.

Nicht genug Parkplätze hotel hatte nur 5 eigene Parkplätze und andere Plätze sind nur mit handy zu mieten aber nur auf italienisch mein zimmer war eine bessere besenkammer für 98€je nacht extrem überteuert für sogenannte 3 Sterne die er nicht verdient hatte

L a habitación 214 es la más amplia. No es la mejor de las vistas pero tiene ventanales altos, techo alto y silenciosa. Cuenta con un refri pequeño. No hay cafetera ni tetera en el cuarto pero en el desayuno hay una maravillosa maquina para extraer jugo natural de naranjas y por supuesto una hiper maravillosa cafetera. Fácil estacionamiento y a 15 minutos en auto de museo Ferrari.

Great Hotel & Lovely Breakfast

I did a roundtrip in Italy and had a nice stay at this hotel. Breakfast, compared to my previous stay at a B&B in Pompei, was like a dream with many available options. The only negative thing was that the TV didn’t function properly with no signal from time to time. However, as I didn’t bring it to staff’s attention, they didn’t get fair chance to fix it. Apart from above, I have nothing but positive things to say about this hotel.

Hotel bien situé, personnel avenant, petit parking bien pratique. En revanche, en bord d'une route très passante, notre chambre était bruyante, nuit compris. Je ne recommande pas aux personnes sensibles sur ce point.
