We were originally assigned a student room with bathroom down the hall. We asked for a better room and were transferred to the "hotel" side of the complex. The front desk staff was kind and very informative, almost entertaining. We enjoyed the area.
this hotel is just so-so
I don’t like it
Its a fine property, but you really need to pay for the private room as this is also a college dorm. If you do a shared space it will be with college kids. Breakfast was good and rooms were clean and well maintained.
Love it so nice walkabel to everything
The only thing to complain was the restaurant. I choose the buffet. But most of the dishes were cold since nobody switched on the re-heater or the were partially broken. Apart of that the hotel was fulfilling my needs, clean showers, clean and cozy room.
Had everything I needed and the price was fantastic. There is no soundproofing so it really comes down to luck as to who the other guests are. I was lucky in that the floor was quiet but I can see how it could get loud. Everything was super clean and the room was comfortable. No frills and cheap and thats exactly what I was looking for.
Great stay with great breakfast
Really easy check in open 24 hours. Super clean bedrooms and bathrooms (even in the old block!). Brilliant breakfast!
Away from downtown but only 1 km walk past old beautiful homes and church yhen into main downtown area, can also go through botanical gardens, friendly staff, I wonder if hotel is old college dormitories?
PRICY HOTEL WITHOUT ELEVATOR. WE HAVE CARRIED LUGGAGES TO THIRD FLOOR. DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. STAFF WAS RUDE TOO
It was an attractive, clean and pleasant place Thanks
Lots of kids who tend to be louder late at night.
The property is great, but difficult to spot from the local roads; and the maps application took me to the wrong place (the school campus). The rooms were spacious, so that was good! Old school keys are interesting touch!
Beautiful and quiet sitting. Excellent facilities and easy access to the city. I wish we could have stayed longer.
Great hotel! Clean and quiet. Free parking. They do serve breakfast for 3,400 isk per person and they have a dinner buffet for 8,900 isk per person. We thought this was a bit expensive but if you want food right there that’s an option. Would recommend booking a stay !
Great place right near downtown Aukyeri! Private room with shared bath was convenient and affordable
It felt like been back in time. Loved the college vibe. Staff was amazing and the property was super clean.
A great stay, and near the pool! ❤️
The bathroom and shower are great. Suggest to have kettles in a public area.
Spartan hotel
This property was very spartan, reminded me of a red roof or hotel 6. Unlike those, there wasn’t a boiler in room. I’ve experienced this before and most properties have free coffee in lobby. Not here, one needed to pay. Plus no elevator! A newer appearing hotel with no elevator? I would not stay here again
Communal Bathrooms
Not advertised clearly that the bathrooms are communal - there is only a sink (“wash basin”) provided in your bedroom. There were only two toilets and two showers available per every 8-10 rooms or so, and all of the garbage cans in the stalls were overflowing. Also the duvet had several small black stains.
Great Location and nice rooms! The only issue was they didn’t make the bed when we got into the room.
Likely an odd occurrence but the buildings alarms went off about five times between the hours of midnight and 2am which lead to a restless sleep. Hotel staff were not great in communicating nor provided an answer the following morning. Otherwise a fine place and decent location.
Amazing Location, very convenient
Nice modern and clean hotel. It’s almost a suite with microwave and a fridge. Very spacious. Most of all, the location is very convenient. A few minutes walk to the church, botanical garden, and downtown. No need to drive to go to downtown.
Very clean big room. For the price I wish bfast was included
These are converted dorm rooms for summer. They are not sound proof and they do not feel very private. The bed mattress hurt my back.
The entire hotel smelled like fish. Our bedroom was above the restaurant and for some reason they have pop music playing so loud i thought a rave was going on under me. I asked the staff to turn it down since the restaurant was empty but it didn’t help much. It was loud until 9pm and the you could hear the music from the bar until midnight. There are no amenities in the room like tv. Should be advertised as more of a hostel than a hotel. The common area with tv and pool table was nice but it closed very early.
Great location Helpful folks Was concerned about no private bathroom but worked out fine Recommended
Helpful and friendly staff. The room is clean and good breakfast
Serviceable, Inexpensive
I ended up on the third floor of the older “boarding school side.” The hotel was serviceable and people were readily able to address my concerns. Some aspects of the hotel were a little rough around the edges: third floor walk-up room for me, tourist-bus heavy breakfast times sometimes made it hard to find a seat for breakfast, not too centrally located (big hill down to quite a few sights and run routes). None of those could be helped by the hotel, and did not factor in my ratings, but would be helpful to know. I had a few crumbs in the closet, a few hairs on the bedding, and the drinking on the sink still had a bit of cleaning solution still streaked upon it. All were able to be fixed on my own.
Good place to stay
We enjoyed staying here! The rooms were pretty warm but other than that, a good experience!
Good place to stay.
Clean and great location!
Breakfast was very good.
We stayed three nights here and it was great! I was a little hesitant given it wasn’t a full time hotel but I would absolutely recommend. Room was large and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was very good. We love Icelandic skyr and they had excellent skyr there! Make sure you go to the botanical gardens next door is you have time - they are amazing. Akureyri is a wonderful place to visit.
If you looking for basic accommodations, Hotel Edda is a good choice. Location is great. Parking is free. Sharing a bathroom isn't too bad; however, the walls are thin and noise travels quite easily.
Excellent value
Excellent value for money with an attentive reception open 24 hours for any issues. Toiletries and a kettle provided in room. Room was very clean with comfortable beds and a good shower. TV would not work but strong signal for fast wifi. Nice atmosphere with the patient young staff and makes it more positive with all the demanding tourists.
The hotel was very nice, and conveniently located a short walk from the main street in Akureyri. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel is also right next to the botanical garden.
A college dormitory style, building with a guesthouse-ish feel. Shared bathrooms on every floor. The property and bathrooms were clean and the bathrooms themselves were really nice. Rooms are small but clean and beds were comfortable. No kitchen to cook in, but there’s a decent restaurant on site as well snacks available. It is a great place for a cheap short term stay in the city. 5-10 minute walk from downtown Akureyri.
Great
Felt like I was in school - hotel is also used as school dorm. Room was very specious. I missed a TV in the room. You must ask for hair dryer from front desk.
Stay in Akureyri
Nice pit stop in Akureyri. Well located (5 minutes)walking distance from downtown. In a very quiet area. Young staff very reliable and helpfull. Bedroom confortable and facilities very clean and accessible. Breakfast excellent.
Decent stay
This is a school dorm that is used as a hotel in the holidays. No TV in room. Microwave and sink in the room. Breakfast had a good choice.
Good value for money.
Check-in was speedy for a spacious, clean family room at a hotel located in the heart of Akureyri, right next door to the Botanical gardens. Great breakfast buffet and friendly staff.
Youth hostel priced as hotel
Quite disappointed in this stay. For the price the building and decor is very dated, it had the feel of a 1950s youth hostel rather than a hotel. Didn’t state that was shared bathroom facilities with the rest of the floor. These were clean and modern but just unexpected and again for the price not what would expect. The breakfast buffet was good.
Loved the place. We were upgraded to a private bathroom room which was a nice surprise. The food at the restaurant was amazing - and a bit pricey.
Given room with smaller bed
I had booked a room with a double bed, but was given a room with a twin bed. When I inquired about this, I was not impressed with the customer service. They said the cost was the same for either room and didn’t apologize. I was disappointed to be given a room with a smaller bed and no recompense for that.
Great central location but not much of a view. Room is big. Bathroom can get redone :)
This is a really nice hotel, very relaxing. Staff were great, the grounds and atmosphere were great.
The concept of the Edda Hotels is great! Affordable clean and reliable places to stay across Iceland, very much a repurposing of school dorm facilities for use of travelers. Hotel Edda Akureyri is excellent.
Hard to find
Good Hotel, hard to find. Rooms sterile with terrible (1 Channel)TV with dodgy reception
Clean, pleasant, conveniently located and the staff wete very welcoming and professional.
Modern, well priced hotel in a large city. The room that we got was big and roomy. I'm accustomed to the tiny hotel rooms in the US.
I liked the 24-hour desk because we were arriving late on a long drive from Southern Iceland. I didn’t like that there were no elevators because we were hauling a lot of luggage for a 3 week trip in Europe.
price is good, breakfast was good, good location, easy to find
Was a nice area and great view overlooking the river. Good location so we could walk to about everything we wanted to see. Would stay here again.
It’s inexpensive and the location is fantastic. Central to all major sites
Clean but not comfortable
Its a nice place to stay, but i would not call it a "hotel". Rooms dont have a bathroom and you have to wake up in the middle of the night, get dressed, take your key and walk down the hall to use the rest room. In the morning, you have to go shower down the hall as well... it looks like a converted school or an office building but definitely not a hotel style. Also, rooms dont have a ref, tea/coffee pot.
A budget priced hotel with surprisingly god facilities (actually college accommodation turned over to serve tourism during the summer college break. Very friendly and excellent dinner and breakfast buffets.
The room was good but the shower tiles was very dirty, coated with a thick layer of grime. Given this is a hotel, the expection is to provide shampoo but you had to buy it.
Excellent service
Excellent service, quickly solved a mistake (probably by me) in room type. A bit further from center than I realised, or rather more uphill, breakfast a bit expensive, but I guess this time of the year at this location. But a quiet spacious room with a great view.
Great value for Iceland, a twin share room for two people is cheaper than a bed each in a large dorm at a hostel and much more comfortable. Rooms are good size, bathrooms not too far away.
Nice big hotel in Acureyri
Everything was great except GPS took us to their backside. We were close but the signs for the hotel on this small street were missing. It was frustrating to find it. Getting back to route 1 from the hotel's main entrance was easy. Everything else was great. We enjoyed our stay and walked to city.
No elevator in hotel
Hotel has no elevator so you have to carry your luggage to 3rd floor. Room is small. Shared bathroom and toilet is pretty okay.
Hard to find because the hotel name is not displayed on the building, only on a row of flags. We arrived after dark and the flags were limp + our GPS did not recognize the address so we wasted a lot of time going up and down the street trying to find the place. Also, we barely slept because the room doors are very noisy and people were slamming them all through the night + the sink in our room started making loud gurgling noises at random intervals during the night. Staff was nice, place was clean, free breakfast was good.
The hallways and room were loud--everything sort of echoed. It was weird that the bathroom was co-ed. My door tended to stick and I had to push hard to open it. One of the showers was messed up (the shower head couldn't be pointed in the right direction). But the room was super clean and freshly painted. The staff were incredibly friendly.
The parking lot was a bit difficult to find but the hotel was very nice. The room type reserved was not available but the staff provided a free upgrade to a Queen with private bath. The hotel was very comfortable and located perfectly for where the day ended. There are two pool tables in the lounge but really shouldn’t be used after 11:00 because guest rooms are located below and above the lounge. The bar closes at 12:00 AM
Nice hotel, right in the city.
Close to water, restaurants & public pool. Highly recommend getting a room with private bathroom. Not fun sharing a bathroom with men! Otherwise, great hotel. Very clean room & good service.
Impressed
The hotel staff was amazing. Always willing to help. The breakfast was plentiful. We didn't have dinner at hotel but I can only imagine it would have been just as good.
Nice affordable hotel in Akureyi
The hotel was very clean - actually every time we saw staff they were mopping! The employees were very friendly and helpful. Yes, there was a shared bathroom but we knew that in advance. The only negative was the breakfast because we went at the end of service and the staff was quickly cleaning up. Otherwise the hotel was great
Nice stop over
Great
Good
We enjoyed our stay, staff was friendly.
Nice place
You won't find a bad hotel in Iceland - they just don't exist. There aren't enough Icelandic citizens for all of the hospitality jobs during tourist season - but that's ok, because they seem to do a great job of finding people from all over the world. If anything that makes the experience more interesting.
Akureyri stay!
Would stay there again! We had a shared bathroom and the bathroom Was cleaned 2 times a day! Great location
Akureyri !
Great! Hotel was located close to center of town, clean, and offered necessary amenities!
Expected more...
We had been traveling for a number of days looking forward to a relaxing and much needed sleep to recharge. It was disappointing to have the hotel alarm abruptly wake us at 7 a.m. A gentleman was running up and down the hall and guests were not notified of what was happening. The alarm went off two more times and finally we had had enough and checked out immediately. During check-out I asked the woman at the desk what happened and she said, "we are having problems with the alarm." There was no apology. At minimum the hotel could have offered a complimentary coffee for the inconvenience. We had traveled hundreds of miles at this point and were extremely tired. I understand these things happen, but the lack of customer service added to our frustration.
Best deal on hotel for Northern Iceland
Very pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a lot less when I found out this is a college dormitory converted to hotel in summer. But the place was clean, the room comfortable, and the staff helpful
Student accommodation makes great summer lodgings
Very convenient for botanical gardens, church and restautants.
It was very clean and located well.
We had a slight issue finding the hotel, but once we located it, everything was very good.
Beds are ok but not enough air flow so unnecessarily hot
Good Accommodation
My stay was very good. I arrived late at night and there was nowhere to get food, all the restaurants were closed before 11:00 pm.
Beware that some rooms have private bathrooms and some don't - depending on which wing you're in. My room wasn't cleaned when I checked in but the front desk quickly offered me another room and a complimentary drink for the trouble.
SHARED BATHROOM - FOREWARNED
I guess it is all about expectations. Did not realize the room we booked was a dorm room with shared bathroom. The newer building has en suite rooms, but still feels like a dorm room. Booked for 2 nites but only stayed one, paid the penalty and found lovely cabin up the road. However, staff were great. Place was immaculate. Wifi was adequate. And for college age and young adults great place.
Good hotel but there should have been an elevator
Didn't realize I was staying in a dorm with a shared bathroom throughout the entire floor. Wasn't that bad though.
Excellent value
Our private bath ensuite had microwave & fridge. Easy walk to/from town center, big grocery store a block away. Blackout curtains were short so let in midnight sun into room but still excellent value, would return again in future. Dinner buffet reasonable price given quality, selection & you are in Iceland!! (Food $$$$ everywhere in Iceland)
Great hotel in a good location in Akureyri
Stayed here for 2 nights in July 2016. My understanding is that the Edda hotels are only available in the summer as they are used to house students during the school year. The room sort of looked like my dormitory in undergrad (not an insult - very nostalgic!). Very much enjoyed the city and the hotel. There was a sink in the room but the WC/showers were shared, not an issue for me but if anything was less than great it was these shared facilities - it was a bit tricky to get the shower/WC doors to lock and the drain in the shower was a bit slow.
Good overall, very clean. Staff ok. Location good.
Nice location! Pretty large rooms for a typical hotel in Iceland.
Good budget option
I enjoyed the stay
Student Dorm Converted for Summer High Season
Other reviews have stated the basic nature of this hotel. We stayed for two nights in the wing where rooms had private bathrooms and a small kitchenette, so not so spartan. However, this property is a student dorm that is used as a hotel during the Icelandic high tourist season, since there's not too much infrastructure to cover the demand during that time. Floors were polished wood, so you could here guests above and around you, and the halls were noisy with guests trundling their luggage from the tour buses that use this facility. The TV was an old box with only one channel, in Icelandic. Beds were narrow and typical of student dorms. Breakfast buffet was fine, but the 'bar' was just a counter with a few bottles of beer in a 'fridge and a small selection of spirits. However, we enjoyed our stay and the surrounding town of Akureyri, especially since the botanical garden next to the hotel was so wonderful. We were on our way around the Ring Road and this place was not bad for a night or two.
It's not a bad choice.
A comfortable stay
This a clean comfortable hotel near the centre of town. Our beds were cozy, the staff was pleasant and our room was quiet and clean. The only thing we lacked was a kettle in our room.
Good
It was good and the breakfast was well worth the 2,050 krona cost. Know that it does not have private bathrooms, but private showers and private stalls in a common bathroom as this was a conversion from a former dormitory.
Good Value
Very nice hotel/hostel. You could stay in the regular hotel, or in the guesthouse/hostel. Great breakfast buffet, but this was not included. Very nice and helpful staff.
Unexpected dorm stay
When I booked the 'hotel' I didn't realize that Hotel Eddas are dorms and used as hotels during the summer. the rooms are decent, but noise is not contained and i was woken frequently by other guests opening/closing their doors and from the loading dock outside.
Fresh and welcoming - great place to stay
A great place to stay in Akureyri - clean, neat and fresh rooms. Easy to find, easy to park, friendly staff, good breakfast. Something about the simple student rooms which is very appealing and conducive to an excellent night's sleep. My top spot in town to sleep.
It’s a dormitory stay - basic but clean
We had hoped for drinks facilities in the room - but this was a dormitory / college facility. Breakfast was EXCELLENT! Lots of choice. Staff were very pleasant.

Nice hotel and good service
A large hotel located next to the bay. The newly completed right wing has a novel layout, comfortable accommodation and sea views.
