This is by far my favorite place to stay in Avignon!

Beautiful historic property in excellent condition. Excellent breakfast, super location. Only problem is noise on the side of the hotel facing the courtyard and bar. Could not sleep until the bar shut down our first night. Staff conveniently allowed us to move to a room on the other side of the hotel. No noise problem on that side.

Nice, convenient but not quite 5 star

Room was very nice but small and absolutely no view. My primary frustration was hallway noise at 2am which seemed to not just be other guests but hotel staff showing them to their room.

Historic hotel in the heart of Avignon.

Lovely, historic hotel in the heart of Avignon. Staff was excellent! Very walkable location to stroes and restaruants.. When I checked in I was told that breakfast was included but when I checked out I was charged for each day. The breakfast was rather minimal and the eggs were always cold. Otherwise ths is a very nive place to stay.

The staff and service of the hotel were very nice and helpful. The hotel kindly upgraded our room when we checked in. The room was spacious, with a separate toilet, bathroom, and closet hallway. However, the separation of all the spaces felt a bit inconvenient. The rooms are fairly old and the location and number of outlets were inconvenient. Even though an espresso maker was provided, I couldn't find an easy to reach outlet to plug it into. The breakfast also felt very bare for the price (30 euros per person). We had it included with our room when booking, but if I had to pay the breakfast price on top of the room like I did with other hotels, I would have been extremely disappointed. For hot items, there was only scrambled eggs and ratatouille. It was otherwise a normal cold breakfast buffet with bread, cheese, cold meats, yogurt, and fruit. The bread was very delicious though. At other hotels, I've had bacon, sausages, and quiche at the breakfast buffet for a much lower price. Even though this hotel is a five star hotel, the accomodations felt much worse than the 4 star hotels I've stayed during my trip. There were makeup foundation stains on the bathroom mirror and the bathtub had black stains on the caulking that should have been scrubbed off. The history of the hotel is cool, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Overall it is a great hotel. However, AC in one of our two rooms does not work. When you turned on AC, it feels like heater is working and room temp keeps going up. The hotel staff showed up and did not bother to fix it. He just asked us to turn it off and open the window.

Like an ageing gigolo, this hotel relies on old world charm but, ultimately, can’t really deliver the (five star) goods. Beautiful building and setting but the facilities are tired and limited. Rooms are nice but really not 5* by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t mean to sound too harsh as there was much to like…but I would not pay top prices to stay there again.

Great for exploring the city

Outstanding customer service and excellent central location

Old world ambiance, well-trained staff…a little inconvenient to get to, but if you want old world charm, it’s going to be in small, old world streets. We liked being able to just walk out and explore Avignon. Stayed here twice within 4 days and the rooms couldn’t have been more different. The first was very dark and had a heavy brocade feeling to it, the second time we stayed in a room full of light and everything seemed fresher…maybe they are slowly refreshing the whole hotel, I don’t know, but this was our experience.

Beautiful hotel, perfectly situated. Very practical if arriving by car. Comfortable suite with nice terraces. Lovely bathroom - not quite finished (no hooks, no loo roll holder no place to put soap in shower). Very comfortable bed let down by terrible artificial pillows. No sockets or USB sockets by the bed; we had to charge items in the bathroom and other random places - just not thought about. Good breakfast. Helpful staff.

This is a 16th century townhouse in the heart of the old city of Avignon. It is 5-star. Period. Absolutely impeccable in every aspect. I have stayed here multiple times and the staff, restaurant (Michelin-starred), bar, amenities, service, personalization, and every element of the property and staff are as perfect as can be.

A beautiful example of a grand house and courtyard in the Provençal style. Could add candles and lights at night for a bit more ambiance in the courtyard

The staff were amazing - so helpful and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The area is amazing, with so many sights to see, inside and outside the wall. Loved it!!!

This hotel is far from a 5 star and the price at Euros550 euros per night and extra Euro29 for breakfast was unbelievable. It is an old building with some of the charm of the old town of Avignon and a good location but none of the functionality and modernization needed not the facilities of a 5 star. Broken toilet and sink that didn’t drain in one of the rooms and electrical outlets for hairdryer blew up in the other. The safe is so old I haven’t seen in a long time, the fridge and safe inside a cupboard were generating so much heat inside the closet. The breakfast at euro 29 was outrageously expensive. There was barely any fruit. I stayed Jan 5 star boutique hotel in Paris for a week near Avenue Montagne this week. It was amazing in every regard and what a 5 start hotel should be. This hotel uses its location to claim 5 stars but anything more than half the price of $1,150 for two rooms we paid would be more than a fair price. No spa or pool and no other facilities other than a restaurant is not the standard for 5 stars. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and am amazed at the 5 ratings on Expedia. I have found Expedia reliable except on this occasion.

Bel hôtel mais service très perfectible

Un endroit magnifique mais qui vit trop sur ses acquis. Le service y est médiocre : chambre non disponible à l’arrivée à 15:45, très bruyante, ménage de la chambre non effectué le 14/07, petit déjeuner impossible le 15/07. Ça fait beaucoup pour un même séjour de 4 jours. Certes j’ai été partiellement indemnisé mais attention car cela pourrait finir par lasser.

I've stayed in this hotel before and the atmosphere was not as friendly this time. Difficult to define but a different 'feel'. We arrived after a long train journey at 13.30 and were told the kitchen was closed and there was not food available. Hardly the standard of an upmarket hotel! We were directed to a pizza place across the street which was as uninspiring and third rate as it always has been. My next stay in Avignon may not be at L'europe

Excellent older hotel in 17th century building. Quiet neighborhood, very central in middle of old city. Solid quiet building, large impressive rooms,excellent service. Pricy but worth it.

It was fine, as we expected, but it is best in summer when the whole atmosphere of Avignon is also at its best.

Great hotel, centrally located. The breakfast offering was not ver extensive and it was expensive. They kindly upgraded us to a fabulous room with an enormous bed. Staff were so friendly. We will return!

The location is ideal for visiting the palace and other sites in the historic area. The hotel itself fits the historic feel and neighbourhood with old-Europe style, stonework, courtyard, old trees, and shutters. The parking was inconveniently off site and no vallet parking was offered. Some of the room decoration was a little drab and dated.

The property itself is beautiful and the service is generally fantastic. We had two issues with our stay, firstly, we arrived by car and were not informed of the hotel’s parking area and were told to park in the nearest public car park (approx. 4-500m away). Secondly the bracket for our shower head was broken, which is not much of a problem, however, for €250 per night, you would expect everything in your room to be serviceable. Ultimately I would stay here again and would look forward to doing so.

Luxury hotel, fit for royalty!

Old world luxury best defines this hotel, close to everything in Avignon. The staff treated us so well, and were very professional. I highly recommend this hotel.

The property condition was excellent. The location was perfect, within short walking distance to all the museums, shops and restaurants. The staff was friendly, warm and professional. They could not do enough for us. They selected a great tour company for our private tours.

As Good As It Gets

This hotel is as good as it gets. It has it all: amenities, comfort, location, and WONDERFUL staff. We couldn’t sample dinner because they were booked both nights. It has a Michelin Star, so book ahead. Breakfast is excellent.

The hotel is fantastic but the staff is even higher quality than the facilities themselves. What a wonderful stay. I went at the end of September for one night and again for one night at the end of October. The front staff remembered me as if I were family. There is nowhere else in Avignon I’d stay. Absolutely the very best a five star can offer.

Great place to stay

The hotel was fabulous. Aida is such an asset and incredibly helpful and kind. I interacted with Hannah the most which was also pretty good. Aida, hands down is the most professional and well spoken Individual and helped from recommendations to even book a train ticket.

Simply lovely

Absolutely lovely hotel with the perfect ambience for Provence- refined and laid back at the same time. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Our only issue was that we arrived at the end of October when the AC had converted to heat even though it was still quite warm. The staff immediately brought us a fan that made the room comfortable.

The PERFECT hotel!

This hotel is WONDERFUL! The staff was so friendly and helpful, the room was beautiful, and the location was ideal. We cannot wait to come back to Avignon. We stayed in over 7 hotels during our 15 day trip and this hotel was by far the favorite. Can’t say enough good things!

Old World Charm

Our two nights at Hotel d’Europe were fantastic. Lovely room, comfy bed, nice shower and toiletries enhanced our stay. Elodie, the Thursday night bar pianist was an added treat. She is amazing!!
