Beautiful location, stunning mountain views and the clouds just roll on in to your balcony. Walking distance to some cool places and restaurants. They have a good shuttle service to the forest. Only feedback is some of the staffs attitudes, 2 of the employees were helpful, friendly and kind. The rest seemed snobby and almost judgemental. Could've been 5 stars if it weren't for that. We were WELL AWARE of our checkout time, yet walked by the front desk and stated we are going to pack. 5 minutes later they ring the hotel phone to remind us to hurry and get out.

I love the view and location.

My roommate and me, and my friend who stayed in the other room all got bug bites from the bed.

We stayed 3 nights and it was wonderful. The room was clean, and had great views. The site has its own walking trail where you can spot birds and other animals. A decent walk to town but was it was doable.

Great food. Rooms dated. Poor bathrooms. Nice dining area and bar. Great view.

Nice place A/C would be nice or at least a screen on the back sliding window for air flow at night. New beds would be nice but overall real good bang for your buck.

We enjoyed staying here

We liked the big veranda and the comfortable chairs that overlooked the property and hills. The room was dated and very standard. The step-down to the little patio is a way for some people to twist their ankle if they are not careful. Some neighborhood youth used the area behind our area to practice riding their loud motorcycles.

Great bungalow hotel

This is a very nice, bungalow style hotel on a hill with a great view. We were greeted by a woman who was very friendly, spoke excellent English and were immediately checked in our room. It was available and clean. It had a great view, a nice little three-quarter of a mile trail off of one of the parking areas into the jungle and down to their lagoon. Breakfast was very good, it was a great stay. My only downside is it didn’t have air-conditioning, but there was a nice breeze when you open the door and the window.

Great customer service.

We weren't able to stay for our booked nights but we've been grateful for the manager as I was sent on an ambulance on emergency medical situation in Monteverde. Instead of checking in, we went straight to the nearest clinic due to severe pain and was sent on an ambulance to a hospital in San Jose. The manager has been understanding to refund us the money. We would have loved to stay there but due to unforeseen circumstance, we were unable to even see the place. I'm really thankful for the staff/manager for being understanding. If we get to come back to Costa Rica, I'll sure will stay there and recommend this place. Thank you.

Great locstion...tired hotel

The hotel was great for walking to town the sunset there was great. The vondition of the place ... well it needs some love... the mattress on the bed was the worst with springs poking thru, the towels you wete able to dry your hands on... all and all the place looks and feels tired...

Everyone was friendly and helpful!! Clean room and good food!! Recommend the trails could be cleaned up some.

Silvia receptionist was friendly and helpful. Overall hotel was good. No air condition in room and bathroom was not modern but good.

I visited Monteverde as a single birder, not for the shopping, dining, or tours, but to find birds I can't see in the US. The desk receptionist went out of her way to find me a private bird guide at a very busy time for the guides. They even coordinated taking me for coffee before we went into the cloud forest since none would be available that early in the morning at the hotel. My room was clean, quiet, and very comfortable for a good night's sleep to be up before the birds! :)

Hotel Montana is located up in the mountains in Monteverde. There are a couple of restaurants which are in close walking distance, and it is possible to walk downtown but it’s quite the hill to come back up (but doable). The rooms were a little dated but clean. We stayed in the back building which had a nice view. They do keep all the lights on outside the rooms at night which means there are thousands of bugs outside the room when you return - which if you are not a bug lover it’s very intimidating. Every time we would open our door at nights many bugs would flock into the room. We also had a cockroach in our room found on one of the beds; but The hotel staff were kind enough to pull out the beds and check around and said they would spray the room for us. There is also no AC in the room which I found a little surprising - we were lucky enough to not encounter too much warm weather so it was not an issue.

Friendly management, excellent breakfast, clean and large rooms - the whole operation is very well done.

We arrived late after escaping the AirBnB from hell - Expedia indicated they were open until 1130p - but they were closed. HOWEVER, the night security guard let us in and called a manager who acknowledged our last-minute online reservation and gave us keys to our rooms with no hassle. Everything was clean, bright, and felt safe. The rooms are large and we had gorgeous balconies with breathtaking views. This morning they saved breakfast for us because we arrived so late and had sympathy for our plight the night before. Breakfast was lovely and fresh, and Tito the dog was a polite companion. The location of the property is very good, it's not close to the downtown area but it has several places to eat nearby, it's also very close, walking distance, to the favorite spot to watch the sunset and also close to the Ficus Root bridge. The free breakfast is a buffet with various options like Gallo Pinto, eggs, bacon, pancakes, bread, fresh fruit, tasty and more than enough to start the day. The inner road to access the rooms on the back could be better maintained.

Terrible Hotel

This place is a dump. What you see in the pictures is not what you get. I was shocked that there two long hairs in my bed as soon as picked up the cover. There were ants everywhere in the room. Breakfast was awful. They brig you a few pieces of fruit and I asked for more fruit because I am vegetarian and don’t eat any other food they had but they said they don’t have extra. Our rom was behind the building with no view. The door knob was almost impossible to open from inside. I stayed in Costa Rica for 10 days and loved everyplace I stayed and this hotel was the worst.

Great views down the valley. Despite the touristic business in Monteverde, the hotel Montana provided a quiet rural enclave with walking trails.

Huge room, decent breakfast buffet. Hotel feels a little tired and dated. Unfortunately, our room was close to the road, making it hard to sleep.

Mountain bliss in Monteverde

The hotel has the most amazing views and the staff go above and beyond to help you and are so friendly. Well located for trips, restaurants etc. We originally booked last minute as decided to travel a day earlier and ended up cancelling our pre-booked accommodation and extending our stay despite already paying for the other hotel... Lovely grounds and made to order breakfast. Hotel has so much character and a great little bar. Best service so far throughout our trip. Check in was also really easy & front of desk staff are great.

Great stay!

The hotel and staff was great and very helpful! Amazing views and walking distance to the town (though a big climb to come back). The only downside was the wi-fi only works in the common areas, not in the rooms. Not critical since we weren’t in the room much, but a little misleading.

Amazing views but no room wifi

Loved this hotel and it’s an amazing place for someone that can’t afford to stay at the local resorts, but also doesn’t want to stay at a hostel. My only complaint is that the rooms do not have wifi and it is not ADA friendly since there is a pretty steep hill to get to reception from the rooms. Overall great place and the staff is friendly and attentive!

Nice quiet atmosphere good location the parking lot driveway needs a repave and some more festive lighting the room we had did not have AC but being high altitude we were othrrwise comfortable a hanging screen or screen door would help for the sliding glass door leaving it open otherwise invites moskitos

Excellent service and friendly staff

The hotel is ideally located with a spectacular view. It is close to the nature preserve, restaurants, markets. The lobby, sitting area, terraces, and rooms are large and airy. The breakfast was outstanding. The grounds are extensive and had lots of exotic birds to watch. I enjoyed the hotel and will come back to stay again with my family.

Staff and friendly and helpful. The room and view of the mountains, pacific sea, and sun set was amazing from the rooms balcony. Everything was clean ams location is close to everything. Oh and the dog on the beach property is sooooo sweet.

Absolutely amazing hotel with fantastic views from the lobby, restaurant, and room. The breakfast was truly incredible and will be missed. The staff was so helpful and wonderful. Don't miss this place.

Loved this place - a family run establishment, it was very cozy, excellent views, and good food. I loved the personal feel of the hotel, and how helpful and attentive the staff was. They assisted us with booking tours and answering all of our questions about Monteverde. I would definitely stay again.

The place was nice and close to downtown, and bar and restaurant were closed one night due to COVID, but they opened the 2nd night and we got to enjoy it. Very friendly staff : )

Altercado con el agua

Buenos días, compre el junior suite para usar la tina y vi que el agua estaba turbia, cuando la saqué en un vaso, vi un color muy extraño, no pude usar la tina porque nos dio miedo, no pudimos tomar agua, ni lavarnos los dientes, ni bañarnos, tuve que salir a comprar botellas de agua.

I made a booking through Expedia, but the hotel charged me for the room as well. I got double charged.

Good hotel with nice view. Rooms are clean and big.

Room was clean and spacious with balcony with view. Although the bed was uncomfortable and hard and the road inside to park in the lot is terrible and needs to be repaired you cannot park near your room if you do not have an SUV with all wheel drive!

The grounds including small trail are wonderful. The rooms are large. The view can’t be beat. Rooms need updating.

Amazing view of the Gulf of Nicoya. Hummingbirds kept us captivated during lunch which was good(pizza) Staff very pleasant and eager to help. Nice variety at Breakfast. Room clean and comfortable.

This is a nice property. There were very high winds and rain during our stay, and the roofing material made banging noises all night - so we couldn't sleep well.

Nice modern style hotel. We booked a standard room but upon arrival, we were very pleased to find out that they upgraded us to a superior room with no additional charge!! Room was large with private balcony and a huge bathtub. There weren’t a lot of people so hotel was very quiet. The only thing I didn’t like was that it’s farther from town than I thought— probably more than half hour walk for me. Glad we had a car but finding parking downtown was a big hassle.

The view of the mountains and gulf of Nicoya was amazing

Quiet

A quiet oasis in amongst the Monteverde crowds. The desk staff were very willing to answer questions about the area.

We were disappointed that there weren’t many amenities for us. No wifi in the room, no coffee in the room. We were also very disappointed with the construction noise in the unit under ours at 7 in the morning.

Disappointed. Hotel advertising wifi however nothing is mentioned about it ONLY being a available in the lobby. I required internet for the evening and had it been stated would havebooked elsewhere. The truth should be clearly stated. This day and age wifi is expected for the price.

The rooms were spacious, clean and everything was functional. The view from the room was amazing. The front desk staff (Denise, Gustavo) and all other staff was very welcoming and gave the best service for our 3 nights stay. They went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Monteverde.

This property's location is just amazing. It is very well laid out as well. However other than that, I am sorry to say that it is a rundown property and needs basic upkeep. Looks like owner is not willing to spend any money for this purpose. About facilities: there are no safety boxes in the rooms. As the rooms are cottage type and located at a distance from the main building there is no provision for any hot water/coffee machines in the rooms. If a persons gets up in the morning he/she can not have tea/coffee in the room. In breakfast even at 8.00AM most of the dishes pots or fruit plates were empty and the restaurant attendant was not interested to care about.

Great place to stay!

We stayed in a room with king size bed and private balcony. The views were incredible. At check in we were warmly greeted and given a general orientation of the area. They offered to book our tours too. Very friendly and helpful. We would love to visit again.

Large and spacious hotel but very basic with very limited amenities inside the room and no internet in the room. Decent breakfast. Great and helpful front desk staff and beautiful view of the sunset every day from the balcony!!!

The rooms are very confortable, but the will be great with better beds. The food is very good, we had great breakfasts. Overall a good place and a nice stay.

The lady at the reception was very nice and friendly, she helped us booked the last minute night walk tour. The room is very big, and has hot water running all night. The view was fantastic, during the day, the awesome of the cloud forest, and during the night, the awesome view of stars in the sky.

Great Location to Cloud Forest Park

In the center of Monteverde. If you are a bird watcher, the valley behind this property is crazy with different species. Also heard Hollers while sitting on back porch.

Nice hotel with a view

This was the best hotel of five while in CR. Rooms were large and comfortable. We ate one dinner at the hotel and it was delicious as were all the breakfast meals. The view from our room was terrific. The staff could not have been nicer.

The room was great - clean and comfortable with a double bed each. Breakfast was good. The areas between buildings were untidy and unfinished. This didn't really detract from our stay though.

Great Views and room but restaurant is ok

The hotel rooms we got were spacious and have a great view. The service was good and staff was very friendly and responsive. We had dinner at the restaurant but the food did not seemed fresh. Also they messed up our order even though we confirmed with them twice. The free breakfast however was good. We got pancakes one day and were happy about that. Hotel is between the town and the cloud forest reserve and so both of them are nearby.

Great hotel with exceptional view

Good hotel, good area, exceptional view of the valley, nice breakfast. Only problem was that our room was isolated with garden view. Mother Nature was also at its peak during our stay with heavy winds and rain. Inside the room we could hear loud thunder and heavy wind sound whole night. WiFi connection was very poor from the room and had to sit in lobby to use WiFi.

We stayed just one night, but it was great'.big room and clean. Nice staff!

Good, spacious clean hotel

This hotel was just what we were looking for after spending some time staying in basic cabins and lodges. The room was big, beds were comfortable and the shower huge. The room was spotlessly clean with no bugs/creatures lurking in corners! Chocolate chicken dish in the estaurant was particularly good.

Booked day before , way better then expected !!

Booked quickly only for a night , didn't expect much but was pleasently surprised ! Check in was allowed early which was appreciated !!! Quiet and close to attractions ! Breakfast was fast and included !!! Great value ! No complaints !!
