5 nights -1 Person The Hotel is Very inexpensive $10-$20 a night You get Exactly what you Pay for. I had the Deluxe room, Private Shower / Toilet They did not change the bed sheets When I requested, The Pillow covers looked clean, (They were Blue in Color) The Pillows looked very Old and Yellow, There are 3-4 Receptionists, all Men They are all Very Friendly and Helpful I had a King size bed that took up the whole room, No where to put things anywhere, The King Bed Frame was very well built and solid but it looked like it was falling apart, shower head Water is Cold With no Hot water There is no A/C in the Room I slept ok with out it 1 towel per person
Great location for central area. Friendly helpful staff. Large, furnished
It wasn't what I booked, there was a problem with my room and they gave me other different than what I was paying for, it was a cheaper room and they only give back (in money) about 1/4 of what I paid even when I never got to sleep in the room I booked
Warning for no hot water would have been helpful
The location was very handy, and the staff helpful. No power point in the room was an inconvenience, but it was possible to plug in in the dining room.
Don't expect anything fancy
This was about as barebones as it could be, even more so than I was led to believe on Expedia. We arrived later than expected and San Jose is dangerous at night, which is a major problem considering the addresses Expedia provides are inconsistent and inaccurate. If we didn't have a competent Uber driver, we wouldn't have found the place; beyond that, the reception was almost closed for the night, which would've left us stranded in the streets. Luckily, we got a bed. Which is about all there is to this place. There isn't even really breakfast, just bread and cereal (if everyone else hasn't eaten it first). I don't ever plan to go back, unless this place can be turned around to reach its potential.
Good if you need to sleep in the pure center
I choose because i need stay in the center in pure mourning. I dont care that the room are not ready and the change me the room only important to write that its a hostel all irganize and looks like a hostel and they need to sell this like that.
Worse hotel I have been in in all of Costa Rica.
After a 14 hour bus trip, we arrived in San Jose to stay for 2 days prior to returning to our home in Jaco Costa Rica and at 8pm, when check in is at 3, the room was dirty and bed was unmaid and smelled like sex. We had to wait for another room by the man that was working who was very rude also. He failed to show us where the bathroom was located or give us keys. The new room had a broken fan, dead bugs on the bed and dirty sheets. In the middle of the night, the slats on the bed broke and I fell to the floor and hurt my back We decided to stay because I had an appointment with the US Embassy at 11 am the next and my 8 year old was tired. The next day we were offered a better room with private bathroom so we packed our bags then were told nope that room was not available but were moved to another room. The new room was smaller, no fan, no tv and again no keys were given to us. There was no hot water in either shower and one bathroom was out of order. I was offered a discount and refund and have yet to receive either and spent the entire day in bed with a hurt back. There are 3 of us but we were offered only 2 plates of lunch. The staff is rude and the owner is rude also. I do not like to complain and would not if he would have addressed the issues but instead he has done absolutely nothig to rectify the issue he honestly only insulted my intelligence and made the situation worse by moving us to a different room that was worse than the first 2. I am requesting a full refund!!
Excellent location.
Excellent location and price for those on a budget. When I made the booking it said the place was a hotel and in fact it was a hostel...if I had known it was a hostel I would not have booked. However, the place is in an excellent location, a lot of restaurants, museums etc. Perfect for the budget traveller or student.
Super noisy and not cleanliness and thin walls so you dont feel any privacy at all.
Hotel Pension De La Cuesta Review
The room was dirty, had bugs. I almost had to leave most of my clothes there due to the insects getting to them. The toilet did not work most of the time. I thought I was getting a room with a private bathroom and when I got there that was not the case. The bathrooms were very dirty. The staff was cool and helpful, just about everyone spoke good English. The walls were thin so it was a problem when I tried to pack and some woman with a baby knocked on my door and complained that she could not get any sleep because she could hear me walking back and forth and the sound of the T.V. Booking said that it was free breakfast however on the second day they gave us bread and jam and told us to make our own breakfast. Most of the dishes and silverware were not properly cleaned.
Description did not match what we got
Most of the hotels or hostels in San Jose clearly describe whether you're getting a bad in a dorm room or a room. This is not the case with La Cuesta. I was looking for a last minute room for 3 people, and thought this was a private room with no bathroom ensuite, which we were fine with. Once we got there, we were told we were only getting enough beds for the 3 of us in a dorm room. If I had known this, I'd have probably looked for another option. This is what I booked. Notice that I didn't ask for two double beds, it was the option that I was offered when I searched for a room for 3 adults, and it doesn't say anywhere that these are just beds or a dorm room, which was clearly marked in other lodging options. Guests 3 adults Room Room - Breakfast included Share Bathroom Included amenities Continental Breakfast, Free Wireless Internet Room requests 2 double beds Non-smoking room
Stay away unless you absolutely have no choice.
We booked the hotel as a couple but had to stay in bunk beds. The lobby smelled cigarettes. Towels looked like rags. We had to sleep dressed. Breakfast was a joke. Camomile tea and piece of bread? I would rate it as 2/5 if I booked it alone as a hostel. As a hotel, it's 0.5 out of 5. Stay away unless you absolutely have no choice.
This was by far the worst hostel I stayed in Costa Rica. The guy in charge of the establishment was not helpful in answering our questions and seemed unaware about the city. Our double room was small and had only a very small window looking at the corridor. The bed, which was extremely old and uncomfortable, broke in the middle of the night.
Not Hi Flutin but sufficient.
Its kinda outdated and janky. Everything is old .. but its cheap. And tho its old stuff. Its clean. Not like NEW STUFF Clean ... Like grandmas clean. If your high flu tin its not for you. But it served its purpose. Service was great.
The hotel was fine, nothing spectacular. The hot water didn't work in the shower. The common space was utilized by many guests so this could be good if your looking to meet people. I was in a room with three beds so it could work if your traveling as a group. Other than the hot water I don't have any complaints. It's not a luxury hotel but it's comfortable.
3RD CLASS HOSTEL NOT A HOTEL!!!!!!!!!
It is not my first time that I made a booking through you but the first time I MUST complain. IT IS NOT A HOTEL IT IS A HOSTEL!!!! TAKE IT OF YOUR HOTEL.COM LIST!!!! PLEASE CONTACT ME SO THAT I CAN SHOW YOU PICTURES WHAT OUR DELUXE PRIVATE BEDROOM BREAKFAST INCLUDED LOOKED LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would not stay at this hotel again.
We arrived close to midnight at the hotel after our plane arrived in Costa Rica. No soap or shampoo is provided by the hotel for shower. Eight people were in our party. Some of the sheets did not seem clean; most of us slept in our street clothes. Bathroom sink did not have hot water, only cold. We did not partake of the continental breakfast as we saw some ants on the table with the food.
Utrolig hyggelig og hjelpsomt personale, perfekt beliggenhet og perfekt pris!!
Bien pour les routards
acogedor
buena, buen servicio y buen precio
bra sted for pengene
hyggelig betjening, gammeldags interiør
Stay in San Jose
Nice hotel.
Barbora Czech rep
Reasonable money, great lokation, helpful staff, quiet room.
Pelisilmä puuttui
10 tunnin bussimatkan jälkeen noin kello 20 pääsimme hotellille. Huoneen antamisen sijasta respa halusi nähdä varauksemme omalta koneeltamme.
I made a mistake in an earlier review that was meant for Hotel de la Cuesta and not Casa Makiki. My stays at Makiki all were good and I was sad to see the hotel close in Alejuela. My earlier review is about my stay at La Cuesta where I was charged additionally because I had a service animal (unlawful), and then I was not provided proper bedding and had to use my clothing from my suitcase to stay warm at night. Hotel de La Cuesta, despite the very friendly staff was a very uncomfortable stay after they charged me extra to clean a blanket because of my short-haired service dog, and also provided thread-bare sheets and no blanket afterward despite wanting to charge me to clean the blanket due to my ESA. My dog and I have stayed in multiple countries and in upscale hotels and not once has there every been a complaint about his shedding, or a response to "take away" bedding.
