A decent place for a couple nights
A perfectly nice place to stay; but nothing special. The place seemed weirdly empty which felt strange. But the room was as shown though a bit less spacious and the staff were kind.
Good start for BA
Geeat stay in Palermo. The staff were friendly and the rooms were tidy. The hotel is quite and designed well. The breakfast is not rich but OK, there is a cool close rooftop to chill at, and they are nearby the center area of Palermo.
Location was great . Staff is awesome.
A little calm oasis in the middle of the city
The hotel was very nice, excellent service in a very well remodeled beginning of the XX century house.
The staff was friendly and kind. The room was a bit noisy when people chat between them in the corridor.
Hidden gem in Palermo soho
At first glance it doesn’t look exciting but it’s amazing small hotel in a great walking district of Buenos atirs. You feel transported to a different era. Lots of lounges and comfy seats. Very pleasant staff … helpful. Bed was comfy.
Très bien situé(quartier Soho). Belle terasse sur le toit. Personnel sympatique et de bons conseils.
Beautiful property in an older building, and they have done an excellent job making this feel like a unique, artistic hotel. Bed was also comfortable, bathroom was clean, and staff were always present and friendly. Great upstairs terrrace and lots of areas to sit, work or just chill out. Very walkable area right out the door with good restaurants just a few blocks away.
Good hotel, simple setting but with charm
The key question whether you like this hotel or not is whether you see the glass as half full or halv empty. It is a simple hotel, rooms are even more simpler, but everything was functioning well in the room and it was clean, but with ample “patina”. Breakfast is quite light. Regarding noise it is full transparency to the corridor so bring earplugs. Location is good and the staff is very friendly. Given the price I paid I was overall satisfied.
The hotel has lots of character being a renovated antique home with very pleasant decor and rooftop sitting area. The staff super nice and friendly. The rooms very comfortable and an excellent safe neighborhood, walking distance to many dining and drinking options. The price was super good for what you get! I would stay there again. Loved the place all and all
The staff was superfriendly and the common areas were nice and clean.
Helpful staff. Some narrow stairs required to get to my room - not a problem for me, but could be for some.
It was a last minute booking after a flight was cancelled but the room has the shower openly a part of the bedroom, the toilet was in a cupboard under the staircase, it was dark, window to hallway and overall very tight. It was fine for one night only.
Hidden Gem
We often stay in Palermo when we are in Buenos Aires and this is the first time we have stayed at hotel Costa Rica. It was just lovely. The design was amazing and the hotel has a great vibe with a lovely rooftop terrace. Owner was super friendly
After reading a recent horrible review I thought that I had made a mistake booking a room at this hotel. I want to tell those who read reviews that the gentleman’s complaint was very unfair. The hotel is a gem if you like old time tradition. The pictures are true to reality, what you see is what you get. In my opinion it was beautiful. The coffee at the bar was delicious and I wish I had the time for an aperitif or glass of wine at the bar. Since this is a very unique and old building it is true that you may hear some noises from other guests but honestly it was no different than hearing the doors close in American hotels. If the pictures are appealing to you, you will not be disappointed!
Keep in mind this was and old house so hotel is kinda old. It was raining while I was there and the room I was had some leaks and immediately they upgraded my room. You have to understand the history of the building before comparing others but the staff response was always top class. Hotel is in Palermo area so you can walk everywhere with no issues. Small grocery stores are nearby so you can get your drinks to prep to go out and grab an Uber if you want. Dear fellow Americans: they offer American style breakfast but portions are normal 😄
Terrible rooms. No noise isolation, I could hear every person walking by. Very old mattress, very painful to sleep on. Very dirty rooms - this place should not be named “Hotel” or even “Motel”. Expedia should do some due-deligant here - the whole add and photos are a complete lie!!! Shame on this place, we could not sleep for two nights!
Hay que dejar la llave del cuarto siempre que sales. El aire no funciona Se escucha todo El inodoro y la ducha están juntos. Puedes ducharte mientras estás sentado.
We like the charm , the location , the stuff , the terrace, the lobby , the breakfast . The old doors can be noisy at times , specially at night .
Very bad internet. Internet stopped working for two days. They told me it was the whole area but I asked their next door neighbor and the business across the street and they had internet. I had to change rooms three times. Very little hot water in all three rooms. Hot water would only last a couple of minutes and then get cold. Rain water making the floors slippery and dangerous. Not every room has a safe.
Decent price, good public transport, wonderful building
Attentive staff. Thank you Carlos ❤️
The property is unique and in an amazing location! The courtyard is open to nature, which is lovely (you can get rained on though!). I loved this hotel and would absolutely stay here again. Polite and helpful staff.
Breakfast area us lovely. Very unique decor. Friendly staff.
....
The bathroom lacked privacy.
We liked it a lot!
Very bohemian spot. Great access to restaurants and markets. Best part of stay was going to local grocery and picking up beer and wine and going to roof top terrace where we socialized with other guests. Staff wonderful and set us up for a very early airport trip.
Nice location, close to all amenities
It is worth the money.
Very basic property , good for short stay. Quiet, safe. Pretty balcony on the hotel roof to relax with your drink after whole day of sightseeing. Staff was very kind and helpfull.
This hotel had all the colonial attributes that I wanted
El Staff muy amable, buena ubicación del hotel.
Good quiet location! Staff is very helpful! If you like antiques, this is the hotel.
Great stay!
Loved the vibe and location of this hotel! We love David. He as well as all the other staff were amazing! Felt incredibly safe by having to be buzzed in. Would absolutely stay here on my next trip to Buenos Aries.
Loved Hotel Costa Rica. Quiet location and lovely decor with some funky art work and a cosy lounge. Very accommodating staff who made me a delicious toasted panini on request when I came in late, accompanied by a nice cold beer. Big, comfortable bed and pillows, big bathroom and shower and best of all a quiet air conditioner! The city was in the grip of a heat wave when I was there in March so air con a must! Restaurants and cafes close. I would definite stay here again.
Hotel is quaint-dated budget hotel. Nice staff. bathrooms separate not en-suite. Had to ring doorbell for entrance to hotel. walk-able near park. some restaurants open later.
We book here because of the 24 hr check in for our next flight ✈️ in AEP and the hotel allowed us to leave our luggage 🧳 after the check out at 10am because our flight was at 6pm. Great services ⭐️
Enjoyed the area and the staff was helpful. Able to walk to many restaurants and had a good communal area. The room was not very large and the bathrooms are separate from your room which is a bit odd…but overall great for the price and worth the stay
Clean but very small room! Hardly room for suitcase!
Very quaint, charming boutique hotel in a great area. The staff is AWESOME!! Would recommend it to anyone going to Buenos Aires!
Great place with affordable price.
Property is sufficient and quaint with polite staff. Cleanliness was a concern and the breakfast was disappointing.
Just what you need
Really lovely and helpful staff. Nice cosy rooms, good price. Air conditioning unit leaked but that is my only complaint
I really like Hotel Costa Rica. Very cool architecture and modern, minimalist rooms. The staff was great. Located in a walkable area in Palermo. Close to restaurants and parks.
Excellent location near restaurants and bars of Palermo, incredibly helpful staff and great value too!
Noisy for some moments. Staff chatting next to the rooms
We enjoyed our room and we loved the are
Great hotel, stylish and comfortable. The 'economy' rooms are basic in a cool way but great value. It's my 2nd stay here Lovely friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Very friendly atmosphere and staff. Well located. The only negative point is that the property is noisy in the morning when people come and leave.
Lovely cool hotel in a good location in Palermo. I had one of their 'economy' double rooms which was actually a great size for a few nights and great value.
within walking distance of plaza serrano, Communal areas are nice
Not a comfortable place to stay
It was in very, very, poor condition. The room was barely considered "inside" the building. We decided to leave and go somewhere else. The manager said we could get a refund, but then he went back on his word and didn't let us when we did things through Hotels.com.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room is simple but clean.
The good: 1. Staff were super friendly and helpful. They were definitely the best asset of the hotel. 2. The hotel location is fantastic and the beds are super comfortable. The bad: 1. The rooms they give to Expedia guests are way up on the top floor and the staircase is very difficult to negotiate for older clients. 2. Room #20 is small, cramped and opposite the bathroom for guests who have rooms that don't have bathrooms. We asked to be upgraded and we were for an extra $10.00 US per night, but then the toilet was directly in the shower area. There were very odd configurations. 3. The furniture in the public areas of the hotel all need to be updated and replaced because they are worn or broken and very uncomfortable. 4. This is NOT a hotel for older folks - staircases can be difficult to negotiate.
This hotel is located in a nice area of Palermo and it is easy to go by bus or metro to explore many areas of Buenos Aires. There are nearby restaurants and shops and even a brewery less than 2 blocks away.
Hotel Costa Rica has great atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff, but could use some upgrading and refreshing of their facility.
This is a modest but charming hotel/guest house, with fabulous people running it. You feel as if you’ve found a home in BA that you’d be happy to go back to.
Loved the place/service
It was great. Hospitality was top notch, neighborhood great, and we had a cute room. My only hesitation with more than one night was that the bathroom wasn’t completely closed off.
Room décor was tired and glass broken in wardrobe door. Breakfast buffet meats left uncovered.
This is gem of a hotel. Super friendly staff; excellent location in the heart of Palermo - so bars and restaurants everywhere; great rooms/bathrooms, air-conditioning. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, and it's excellent value for money
Great spot, great location.
We loved it here, the location was perfect with restaurant, shops, bars, markets and the metro all being within a 15 minute walk. The hotel itself is very interesting in that you need to be a little mindful of the type of room you book. Some rooms (without en-suite) were very pokey, ours was great with a huge bathroom, comfortable bed, spacious clean and light. If you have an upstairs room, there are plenty of stairs to contend with but on arrival staff help with luggage. The hotel has lots of nooks and crannies to hang out in and use the Internet, Internet in our upstairs room was very slow, but this was solved by heading downstairs and curling up in a chair with a drink or coffee from the bar. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English. Breakfast is not included, but you can order coffee and croissant to get you on the way, or go to one of the nearby cafes, if you’re an early riser, eat at the hotel as most cafes don’t open till 10 or 11am. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
Decent room for the price and location.
The staff was very nice. The rooms were clean but had to change twice because something wasn't working (toilet, then internet, then air conditioner). I finally ended up in a room on the third floor across from the shared bathroom. This was not great because people were going in at all hours to use the bathroom, and also a place where people stood outside my window to chat at all hours of the night and the walls were thin. The disadvantage of the third floor is you need to go down and up three flights of stairs (I don't mind the exercise) to ask a question with the front desk (i.e., need an iron). Good location. Nice foyer.
Converted warehouse -- has lots of unique features. Comfortable public rooms.
Great spot.
Friendly staff, great location, common areas had beautiful decor and great WiFi. WiFi was not as great in room.
Underwhelming
Dead area, no English at reception. No closet to stow away belongings after check out. Unclean pool, odd smelling room. Not a great experience.
Hotel Costa Rica was in a GREAT location in an area of Palermo with great shopping, bars, and restaurants. It’s in an old converted mansion and the lobby and bar area have a very cool modern vibe while still showcasing some original features. Very instagramable! The rooms are a little small and the bathroom in ours didn’t have a full door which was a little weird - there was a few inch gap at the top and bottom of the door. Overall it was comfortable, great atmosphere and perfect location at a great price!
Hotel Costa Rica is such a cool boutique hotel. Right in the heart of Palermo, the location is ideal. The hotel itself is very clean, with lots of cozy funky sitting areas. It’s partially open air, with a great roof top patio. We booked the economy, private bathroom option and it was great. A king sized bed with nice white sheets, super cozy pillows, and a fabulous air conditioner unit. The staff are great. They made us feel very welcome and gave great personalized suggestions for spending our time in the city. They are the most likeable, open hotel staff I’ve met. For the price, this hotel is a bargain. And in a safe location. We will be back!
Great value for money
My family of 4 stayed in 2 rooms at this hotel. We found it great value for money and a great location being a short walk to trendy Palermo Soho but also a pretty residential area itself near some of the new restaurants and gastro pubs. The staff are fantastic. My only dislike- no doors to the bathroom!
Nice Boutique Hotel
This is not a 5 Star Hotel but a very unique 25 room accommodation right in the heart of the Palomar District it has both shared and private facilities, with great staff and a warm cosy atmosphere, and the price is very reasonable.
Trip to BA
I spent 10 days at Hotel Costa Rica. I have traveled extensively throughout my life and this was one of my best stays ever. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel.
A trendy budget getaway in a desirable neighborhoo
I chose this hotel primarily for its location in one of Buenos Aires’ hippest neighborhoods (Palermo Soho), and because they have very inexpensive rooms on the top floor with shared bathrooms (~USD35 /night low season). To be clear, the hotel has rooms with a range of prices and some are very nicely appointed (all in a contemporary minimalist way), so I wouldn’t consider this a “budget” hotel. The lobby is trendily stylish and the roof has some comfortable lounging areas that are attractively lit at night. There were 2 bathrooms for the 4 rooms in our category and the bathrooms were cleaned daily. All the other rooms were ensuite and the building is a renovated vintage townhouse type building surrounding an inner open air courtyard. One note, because of the eccentric layout, your room will be up flights of stairs and along different walkways (there’s no elevator). The front desk was more than helpful and insisted on carrying my heaviest suitcase to my room. The owners are French and all the staff are trilingual (Sp, Fr, En). No matter who I met, day or night, they were always friendly.
Boutique hotel in good location.
Had a pleasant 5 night stay. Staff were friendly and the service was good. Good central location close to restaurants etc.
Overnight in Buenos Aires
Perfect, small hotel in the Soho Palermo part of the city. 15 min walk to nearest subway, quiet neighbourhood but close to plenty of restaurants & bars
okay overall
area is good, but seems pretty old from the inside.
Great location, interesting room layout
We stayed here for one night in Buenos Aires. The location is very good, walkable to the hot spots of Palermo Soho, and felt safe. While our room was clean, the set up was a bit unconventional. The sink is in the main room, right by the bed, and when you open the shower door, you not only see the shower but also the toilet. So not a lot of privacy in that regard if you are sharing the room with someone else! Since we were only there for 24 hours we didn't mind it too much. Staff was friendly and we were able to leave our bags with them after checkout.
Buenos Aires
It is a older building could use a update, It is near a lot of dining and drinking places along the streets.
Great location, nice common areas. Rooms OK, can be noisy if right by shared bathrooms. Good value.
Good location but a little disappointing
We liked the area very much and easy reach to fantastic bars, cafes and restaurants. Not too far from bus stops and underground stations. The public area at the hotel were very pleasant and varied and a rooftop area. However the ensuite rooms had nice bathrooms apart from the fact that they were not very private. Only glass doors separated the bathroom from the room which were open from the top. Not very nice for people sharing a room who were not close friends! The breakfast was very simple if you chose to pay extra for it. The staff were pleasant and efficient but out of all the places we stayed in South America probably the least friendly and approachable. Also the rooms we stayed in (first floor) were very noisy due to noise from any room nearby or from downstairs. Also the manager/owner seemed to be French-speaking and paid very little attention to non-French speaking guests. We stayed 4 nights and were never acknowledged by him. Generally quite a disappointment as after quite a few places we stayed this felt quite unfriendly. Wifi was a little unpredictable too.
Sympathic staff, nice hotel and great location! There is no escalator in the hotel, but the staff helped me with the luggage. Many nearby cafés and restaurants, Palermo is a great location. Wifi was not always very good in the room, but there are many common areas to sit and relax. I definetely recommend this hotel!
Great location and low cost
Booked a room for 1 night and then a room for 3 nights to suit our travelling plan. Adequate rooms with comfortable bed and showering facility, but this is not cosy accommodation, so perfect if you're going to be out all day. Staff are excellent and really helped with all our needs, especially travelling advice.
Good stay
Good location in Palermo, close to restaurants and bars and seemed safe. A little far from metro but not too bad a walk. Hotel was clean and comfortable, and staff friendly and helpful. Room was slightly on the small side but nothing too bad. Breakfast would have been nice.
Nice hotel in good neighborhood
Room was large, clean and quiet. $17 taxi ride from AEP, $40 from EZE
It is a very cute hotel with a lot of charm. It has more a vibe of a hostel than a hotel has we had to share bathrooms. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
Good value
Good location, very close to bars and restaurants. The room was a bit noisy during the day but it was very quiet at night. Friendly staff was willing to help. Too bad breakfast was not included in the price but it was nice coffee and croissants were available at all times
Good location. Relatively inexpensive.
Could have been better if breakfast were included.
Nice lobby, horrible room
The staff are very nice, the lobby is appealing, the location is good, but the hotel room was horrible (room #2). -The door has windows and room has windows that are not see through, but at night the light directly outside the door shines brightly into the room all night long. There are no curtains to block the light. We turned the light off various times through the night and the staff kept turning it back on. The hotel should change the door and/or get curtains or get a light that turns on by movement! -The room is advertised as a room with bathroom, but the shower and sink is not in a separate "bathroom" but part of the main room, making it impossible to shower and get up in the morning without DRASTICALLY disturbing your partner who is still wishing to sleep. -The sink counters and walls are stained with dirty marks... The whole room really needs to be repainted, because it definitely makes the room feel dirty. -The dresser has a weird smell... Probably for the humidity created by the shower that's in the same room. We didn't want to put our belongings in it. All in all we slept horrible for the light issues and bathroom being in the same room. I understand it's an economy room, but there are some really basic things the hotel could resolve to make sure people at least get a decent night sleep. We personally won't stay again.
Agradable, barato buena ubicación
Un hotel pequeño agradable hogareño cerca de Palermo soho Buena experiencia Recomendado Exc el café !!
First rate hospitality.
This is a very simple hotel without a lot of fancy amenities but the hospitality is first-rate. The staff was very attentive and even did a favor for us that I would have only expected from a good friend. The guest room floors are uncarpeted and small. It might not be for you, if you are going to spend a lot of time in your room. WIFI is in the common areas only. But the common areas are very comfortable. They have 3 separate sitting areas on the first floor and two beautiful rooftop areas.
Could be great, but owner has no personal skills
First impression was great, but the owner is all about money and don`t seem to care about the guests. Our room was very small and without internet signal, so she "upgraded us" to a better room and asked to pay cash in exchange. Ok. Using the room we found out the cold water wasn`t working. We asked for repair and they did nothing. 3 days with only hot water in the shower... terrible. We asked for late check out (no one was arriving) and they changed half night.. ok... but with the water issue we really thought it was unnecessary. The 2 french guys are great (NIcolá and Mikael). But we sensed that all employees were under stress and afraid of the owner and we personally saw one of them being talked dawn by her 4 times in front of of... as a "joke". The hotel has everything to be the perfect place: ellegant, nice, pretty, cozy. But this personal part kills it all.
Great staff - hotel leaves a lot to be desired
The staff was amazing and very helpful. Unfortunately there were dead bugs on our bed each night we came back, and the room was so tiny we couldn't comfortably put a suitcase on the ground. The complete breakfast was two rolls, and cost extra. Also, the fact that there was no wifi in the rooms is just unacceptable with the prevalence of the internet. We liked the location and staff, but wouldn't stay there again.
Great place better without guests children.
Hotel owner and family live there and were excellent hosts. Children well behaved and proper. Staff excellent and friendly and helpful- can't say enough. Only saw my room, bit small but comfortable and a good bed! Other guests were pleasant and they had a small bar downstairs to have an evening drink and get to know your other visitors which was nice. However one couple let their kids be as noisy as they wanted to be and never took control of them. Guess that is a problem world wide now and has nothing to do with the hotel.
Excellent ratio price / benefit
Very clean spaces, friendly staff, excellent localisation. Definetely recommend it.
Great staff; noisy air-conditioning units
The rooms were fairly simple, but the comfort was fine and they were clean (except that it seems that under the beds was not often vacuumed). The setting, multiple levels around some little interior courtyards had some atmosphere and the rooftop terrace with its loungers and parasols would be lovely in warmer weather and there was a space to relax on the ground floor&1st floor-close to the front desk. Wifi was available although the signal was very weak except in the ground and 1st-floor common areas. Breakfast was available - at a supplement - but was pretty small, consisting of two Argentine croissants (small), a glass of orange juice and tea or coffee (their teapots had character!) The common bathrooms were slightly the worse for wear, but were kept clean. The worst thing about this hotel for me was the noise from the air-conditioner units mounted in locations where the noise carries down some of the internal courtyards and/or through the ceilings of the rooms from the roof above - this affects quite a high proportion of the ensuite rooms. This may not be a problem for you if you are a heavy sleeper, but unless you are I would not recommend it - even during winter, which is when I stayed (it seems some guests were using their air-conditioning to heat their rooms). The best thing about the hotel was the staff, who were friendly, kind and helpful - for example, one greeted me by name each morning& they gave me advice about where to go and what to see in the area & city
Good location for Palermo nightlife.
Great staff, exceptionally friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable but due to the size of our one are challenging to eat being non modern facility. Lots of great common areas to relax, good setup.
Awesome place!
Stayed for 7 nights, staff was super helpful, awesome location!
Good location for Palermo Soho
Had a leak in bathroom and staff changed our room instantly. Very pleasant, efficient staff.
Great value boutique hotel in Palermo
Very nice hotel with good staff, good variety of rooms from basic and good value along with high end specs. Would definitely go back or recommend to friend
Excellent location, awesome hospitality
Loved it. Great staff and felt at home. Nicolas was a great host and very helpful. Great location close to entertainment, restaurants and transport. Will be back if we have the opportunity.
Good Value
This hotel is very old, but it is clean. A major plus is air conditioning; the major minus is the fact that Wi-Fi doesn't reach all of the rooms, requiring a trip down to the lobby. However, the staff is extremely helpful, and the neighborhood is excellent. It was an enjoyable stay.
Hotel Costa Rica | Hotel in Buenos Aires | Travala.com
The property is definitely not an 8.3 rating as they displayed it on a sign in the dining area. The rooms are too small and cramped. The shower was awful as there was no place to put one’s toiletries or simply the soap. Also, when it rained, the water came down on the floors everywhere. The breakfasts were below adequate. Most of the staff was very nice and helpful with the exception of Carlos, who was the rudest Argentine we have ever met. He refused to give me change for a $10000 pesos or even contemplate us paying one of the two front desk workers to take our laundry to the laundromat for pay or for me to approach the cleaning lady to ask her to do it for us for pay. Consequently, we had to cancel one of our tours in order to get back earlier in order to drop the laundry off. The other workers, like Franco, were awesome. Finally, having no tv in the rooms is inconceivable as every other hotel we have stayed in Argentina for a similar price has always had it. Also, the walls and floors appeared unkempt, paint chipped, cement floors broken, that is, the “shabby chic” ness was totally not the case.
